Serving Mr. Right

Ten years ago, Finn walked away from Tone and the BDSM lifestyle. It was a bad break-up, and while Tone hasn't been able to find anyone else, he likes to tell himself he hasn't given Finn a second thought.

Now the chef/owner of Decadence, one of the most exclusive restaurants in town, Finn is a changed man. When he discovers Tone is a guest at his establishment, he can't help but moon a bit over the one he pushed away. He knows he at least owes Tone an apology, and arranges a meeting.

Tone instantly realizes he's not really over Finn, but can he believe that the man has changed? Or would a reconciliation simply lead to even more heartache?

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Second chance love story for two who thought they'd lost it.

Micheal can be counted on for a steamy read filled growling, needing and possessing. This one delivers that and a bit more. The backstory for Finn and Tony was flushed out for a shorter work. I really enjoyed how bits of their past were woven through, yet never detracted from the story. It gave the present relationship a strength that seems absent in some of Michael's shorter works.

Finn is successful and happy, flying high when Tony steps into his world again. I liked that as the sub he was coming from a place of strength rather than victim or suffering Cinderella Syndrome. I enjoyed how they danced around, acknowledged the disconnects from their previous time together and moved forward. Quite touching under all the smexy loving. Left me with a big smile.

Favorite quote: I'd give one, but they're so naughty you'll have to read for yourself.

I'll be frank. Sean Michael (SM henceforth) has become my crack. I wouldn't say he's hit 'auto buy' status but if you need some fluff… man, does he ever fit that bill. In spades.

For those of you unfamiliar with SM, let me tell you what you can expect. SM specializes in porky fluffery (porn + kinky + fluff). ™OKW The porky fluffery is bound to include growling, needing, melting and a boat load of "baby". Do not pick up an SM book and expect a plot. This is straight up PWP. Do pick up an SM book if you like sizzling hot sex scenes that are varying degrees of kinky. There's really not much in the way of character development and I think I've covered what the relationship of the protagonists typically consists of already. Now, if any of the above in unpalatable then SM is not for you.

As I said, this is only my second go round on the SM wheel of fortune, but many of my GR friends will attest to the fact that SM is hit or miss. Sometimes he expects a little too much in the way of reality suspension, but I didn't find that to be the case in Serving Mr. Right.

Tony and Finn had an established BDSM relationship 10 years ago that crashed and burned. They meet again by chance at Finn's über exclusive restaurant, Decadence, and the connection is still palpable. They rekindle and combust off the page. Finn is a bit of a brat which seems to rile Tony up in all the right ways.

I think this novella worked for me because they were already an established couple, so the rapid descent into "love" seemed plausible rather than the dreaded instalove. There was actually a bit of character development though I've still no idea what either MC looks like aside from Finn having a Prince Albert. Oh, and he used to have nipple rings which will be making a return immediately, if not sooner per Tony's orders! There was actually some dialogue that didn't solely consist of: "need, please, oh, more, FUCK" and the ubiquitous "baby". I did quite enjoy the chef aspect and some of the food described was porny in and of itself.

The kink was nice: spanking, paddling, lite CBT and a little bondage. For those familiar with SM, never fear the dialogue by and large is classic SM-highly entertaining. It could've been edited to clean up a few mistakes.

If you appreciate SM, Serving Mr. Right, in my opinion, a good one. Porky fluffery at its finest.

I would like to thank Amber Allure for providing me with a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a story about two men who are meant to be a couple – except neither of them are ready for it when they first get together. What is mentioned about their past as they meet for the second time in their lives, made me think they were simply too young. Finn was too afraid to admit he wanted a BDSM relationship with Tone as his Master, and Tone was not mature enough to manage and guide Finn to show him how good they could be together. Ten years later both have grown up, neither has found a permanent partner, and they are very lucky (or destined by fate) to be offered a second chance when Tone visits Finn's extremely successful restaurant.

Finn is, basically, a brat. He is also afraid to admit how much he needs to be dominated and the fact he likes a bit of pain with his pleasure. The time away from Tone, while it seemed permanent with a breakup as bad as they had, did him a world of good. He is now settled professionally, if not personally, and when he sees Tone in his super successful restaurant, he is floored. Not just because the man "who got away" is back, but because Tone apologizes for the way things happened. That gives Finn the courage to try again.

Tone is a dominant to the core, but he needed time to grow up and realize there is a bit of "give" even for a Master. I suspect he may have occasionally gotten confused as to how much it was his right to determine everything in his and Finn's relationship, and he has since learned that a BDSM relationship is a true two-way street. He definitely knows how to handle himself and Finn when they do get together again – and boy, is it hot when he does pick up the reins!

The title of this story, 'Serving Mr. Right', has a wonderful double meaning: Finn serves Tone many wonderful meals in his restaurant, but he also ends up "serving" him in the bedroom. Of course, the latter is true for Tone as well, even though a Master taking care of his sub isn’t called serving. But as in all good BDSM relationship, theses guys complement each other and each man ends up taking care of his partner.

If you like finding out how men who are clearly meant to be together sometimes take a little longer to make things work, if you enjoy the interplay between a bratty sub who fights his own needs almost all the way and his devious, yet patient Master, and if you're looking for a read that is as hot as it is touching, then you will probably like this short story.

Nothing like running into your ex. Especially if he was the one you never really got over. Now can time and mature make it work just right the second time around.
