The characters are well depicted and the plot goes smooth, playing along the dramatic dangers in the background with her mixed feelings for coming back home. Then, perhaps when sexual attraction is added to the mix, the MC starts playing in those scenes where every reader would scream at her; don’t you see!!. After two chapters with those scenes, I left the book (61%). Somehow, I preferred to remember her as she was at the beginning.

Quick review: First in a series has to spend time on the backstory and these tend to be a bit boring most of the time. But towards the end, things pick up. So while this okay, I am hoping the next one is better.

June returns to the town where she grew up. She left after her parents were magically murdered. As a witch, she wasn't able to tell her non-magical friend.

Life gets complicated when an evil spirit is released.

It was enjoyable, but not very realistic in terms of character development. One second our main character is described as a fledgling witch, the next second she's the one who has to dispel the evil shadow.

Also, there were some spelling errors, which annoyed me.

This was a very intense read about good & dark magic. It is also about friendship, trust, & reconnecting with people after one person ran away.
