PIECE OF HIS HEART

Mark Holbrook was a legend. A tall, rugged, imposing legend. He'd won a Pulitzer, interviewed kings and queens, presidents and movie stars. Carly Barnett, on the other hand, was a former-beauty-queen-turned-advice-columnist. Not exactly on the same level. Still, Carly was determined to prove that she was more than a pretty face.

Mark wasn't sure the beautiful and spirited Carly had what it took to be a reporter, but he was sure that he wanted her. And Mark never denied himself what he wanted. Only, Carly was far better at uncovering the truth than Mark had given her credit for. And sooner or later she'd uncover the most dangerous truth of all—that he couldn't live without her.

The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

I read through this book really quickly and while I liked it, I didn't love it like I normally do with Linda Lael Miller. Maybe because it was such a short story it was just harder to bond with the characters. I really couldn't find a reason why Carly and Mark liked each other other then the chemistry between them. Sex shouldn't be the only reason you like someone and they went from I don't even like you as a person, but I love having sex with you to I love you really quickly with nothing really in between to change that. I was just a bit confused I guess.

I can't say I liked the bonus book by Janice Maynard at all. Bryn and Trent didn't get along at all and although they had history together you didn't ever get to see any of it other then some of the bad things. Their whole relationship was horrible, but they still kept saying they loved each other. I didn't like either character especially since Bryn was such a pushover. Maybe I have gotten too use to strong women in fiction, but she definitely wasn't one of them.

I have read some delightful books by Linda Lael Miller, but this wasn't one of them. The characters and their relationships were not well developed and I did not care about them. Something about the story also felt dated.

The bonus book by Janice Maynard was even worse. Way too much sex for people who didn't even like each other at that point in the story. I started skimming to try and follow the plot and get through to the end. It wasn't really a bad plot, but it was poorly executed.

Pieces Of The Heart:
What do you do when you have found love but have sworn it off? How can one save one who is danger of someone they love? With a heart taken unexpectedly by a brief affair one can only expect to react as if betrayed?
The Secret Child & The Cowboy CEO:
One would think family would stick together when the need arises. Secrets and more secrets keep one man from exploiting a child with problems, but the cost is very high. Find out how Secrets change the world of two lies cast out of the fold with broken promises.
Really enjoyed this book, Both the stories kept me glued to the book.

Another great Miller

She once again keeps you tied to the book. The emotion, the ties, the family bonds are so typical of LLM but so appreciated!

A little too much lack of trust. And come on use birth control! I liked the second book by Maynard. It was my first of her books
