From the moment they meet, their connection is perfect in every way but one.

It’s New Year’s Eve, 2007, and Justine James is fronting her dead-end band for a less-than-adoring crowd. But there’s one person there who sees what she could be—one person who changes everything for her.

Dillon Pierce clawed his way up from the LA streets with no one to count on but his best friend, Ash. Their years of struggle finally pay off when their band, Outlaw Rovers, gets signed and their single takes off. With Ash as the magnetic lead singer and Dillon as the band’s musical soul, they’re destined for greatness, provided Dillon can keep Ash from self-destructing first.

Dillon might not be fronting Outlaw Rovers, but he’s always been the only one Justine sees. She’s followed his career from afar and when he shows up at her crummy New Year’s Eve gig, nothing will stop her from meeting him. They forge an intense connection, rapidly moving from friends to musical soul mates. Justine wants much more, but she’s not willing to climb over groupies and industry bottom-feeders to make it happen. Dillon becomes a fixture in her life, but she has to figure out how to keep him out of her heart.

Outlaw Rovers begins to implode as Justine’s star is on the rise. The years that follow bring equal parts fame and ruin. For Justine, a new love supplants her old heartbreak, and Dillon has to reboot his life after losing nearly everything that matters. Despite the odds, Dillon and Justine remain devoted friends and musical collaborators. After all the missed chances, wrong turns and painful detours, can they finally find the happiness together that seemed destined from the start?

Always is one of those books that I’d call a little gem. I really didn’t have any expectations. I didn’t check out any reviews before hand and I am happy to report that I really enjoyed it.

This is a standalone novel that takes you through a period of 5 or 6 years in which you watch the two main characters share their love for music and their love for each other while they try to battle their way through the reality of the music business. They deal with all that is good and all that is ugly. It isn’t about hard core Rock & Roll but more about living on the road, surviving success and coming out the other end still intact.

Dillon Pierce is the lead guitarist for the band Outlaw Rovers. Life has not always easy for Dillon. And to some extent it still isn’t. But he has this innate ability when it comes to music. It’s his life. Whether he is playing his guitar, writing songs or producing, it is everything that he wants to be.

Justine James is the lead singer for a band called Failsafe. It is her dream to sing. Music is what fills her life and she works hard at following her dream. Fighting to make her dream come true leads her down a path that will either make her or break her.

 photo 8b59e67a-3609-44d2-8ae6-3b79c3612494_zps1c611d65.jpg

When Justine and Dillon lay eyes on each other there was that instant connection. But as much as you can feel the sexual tension between them, there was this underlying feeling that these two were meant to be together. Be it friends or lovers, they were meant to be.

 photo 0ceb8b6c-3a56-4efb-8a97-dcbc93a6184f_zpsbb9fac99.jpg

When Justine’s band is chosen to go on the road with Outlaw Rovers neither one realized what would happen. The reality of being on the road and the price some pay for being a successful rock star can truly rip people apart.

Dillon and his best friend Ash are living the life on the road but the price tag of success is getting higher and higher and the risk of crashing and burning is imminent. The drugs and the groupies are part of that life but it isn’t part of the life Justine wants.

 photo 29a19082-4c73-4102-9d05-80e8589db662_zps2f4afaae.jpg

As Justine’s career starts to soar everything becomes such a whirlwind for her. Things change but the one person that she would never risk losing even as their lives spin in different directions is Dillon. Going down different paths, things get pretty crazy for both of them. My heart broke for Dillon and Justine. I needed them to find their happiness.

This really was a great book. I loved how it carried these two characters through a number of years. You watch them grow together, apart and then back together together again. Though it was about Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll, the sex was there but not the typical smut (if you know what I mean) but that really didn’t matter, IMO. :)

If you are looking to try a different author give this one a go. 

I quite enjoyed this one. A bit predictable but so what. As you know, I love my music, be it the big shots like The Boss or the struggling singers like Simone Felice (who, by the way is very talented but the few time I have seen him in concert he is playing to only a handful of people. Its a shame).

Thanks to Sharon for the recommendation and the loan.

Ash might be the front man of Outlaw Rovers and the one everybody paid attention to, but Dillon Pierce was its magic

This story takes place over a period of 6 years. Dillon and Justine meet and there is an instant connection. Music is their bond but there is something more. Dillon is living the rock 'n roll lifestyle. Justine is more sensible - she knows that she should be careful with Dillon as he is not ready to settle down.

MEANT TO BE.

I would have loved if the author had included some "lyrics" throughout the book.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered.

The story was a bit sad in places and I wondered at times if I would get my HEA.

Then there were no more words

Not bad this book. Not bad at all.
This is a story about friendship, about loving and letting go which kept me glued to my seat until I was finished.
Justine James is a singer. She has dreams of becoming famous someday but she's fast losing hope when her band, the Failsafe, can't seem to make it further than the usual crappy pubs and bars.
One night, she meets her idol, the one musician she's always admired.
Dillon Pierce is the guitarist of the Outlaw Rovers, the band he'd started with his best friend Ash Thoren. They hit it big when they got signed and are now at the top.
When Dillon allows himself to be dragged by Ash to this crazy party, he has no idea that one meeting will forever change his life.
Justine and Dillon connect from the first instant and he's impressed with her voice so, when they leave on tour, the Failsafe go with them. Justine has now the chance to make someone notice her.
What she hadn't expected from this experience was to fall in love.
Dillon is actually a nice guy and I could see why she fell for him. When they first met she expected him to be arrogant and condescending. After all, he is famous. But he actually listens to her and seems to really like spending time together. He has issues but in a way he managed to work through them or at least not allow them to condition his future... too much. His only flaw is his weakness when it comes to his best friend. In a way, I think he feels indebted to Ash and has a hard time saying no to him even when he knows that what they're doing is wrong and self-destructive.
Justine grounds them, even if it's only temporarily so. They seem to be better around her or at least they try, for her sake, not to do stupid things and upset her.
Justine … She's a strong girl who knows what she wants. When Dillon breaks her heart over and over again she prefers to walk away and not allow him to destroy her. And she doesn't give in to their life style.
The most important thing for her, or the second most important, is music. She's pretty levelheaded and determined. It was interesting to follow the evolution of her relationship with Dillon. That kind of friendship is quite rare, especially when stronger, unrequited feelings are involved. They manage to keep each other on the safe line. And when Dillon's world falls apart, she'll be the one who rescues him.
While the book is not exceptionally well written, I think the author did an awesome job in delivering the message that true friendship is a precious thing and it can survive and grow and overcome all the obstacles. Let's not forget that this is her first novel so, great job, Amanda! I really enjoyed it and I really think you should give it a try!

Loved it! **might have a few spoilers**

Ms. Weaver does an outstanding job in giving readers a romance that's a slow build. For me, I like the fact that I got to know Justine (female lead) and Dillon (male lead) as individuals, friends, and later something more. Ms. Weaver builds their connection. I guess I'm one of those people that would rather have a plot than instant romance.

The story works because you like Justine. She's someone you'd want to be friends with. Dillon is your typical rock star. Music is their connection. But they're at different points in their careers. And that leads us to their friendship.

With Always, you'll get sweet, funny, realistic, longing, missed chances, disappointment, heartbreak, loving, and so many more emotions.... but it's so worth it.

Hope you check it out.

As a groupie of rockstar-themed romances I've read many releases over the last year and I can honestly say this has been my favorite thus far. It's an amazingly in-depth story, both emotionally and in regards to the music world, that completely sucked me in from the very first page to the last. It realistically depicts the rise and fall of a band, the high cost of fame, and how reaching rock bottom can sometimes be exactly what you need to find true happiness.

Rockstar Dillon's band is just starting to gain fame as this story starts. He's the brains behind their music, a talented man with pain from his childhood always surrounding him but fueling his talent. His best friend since childhood and brother in shared pain, Ash, is the lead singer and together they forge a path of sex, drugs, and alcohol. For Ash, these vices are slowly consuming him but for Dillon he's merely a bystander trying to keep Ash under control but losing his grip as alcohol becomes his favorite way to numb the pain. The only bright spot during this chaotic time is Justine, lead singer of a band where she is becoming a star in the making. Dillon's immediately drawn to her and their shared love of music binds them together from the moment they meet. He's immensely attracted to her as well but knows he's no good for her but can't let her out of his life. Being friends is difficult but anything else is unthinkable, and as his band and life falls apart he'll need her friendship more than ever. She'll be the only person to believe in him and help him regain the muse he lost long ago. She'll ultimately give him the family he never had just by being his friend. I ached for Dillon from the very start as his mother cared nothing for him and left him to fend for himself at the age of twelve. He's quiet but says so much through his music or a subtle look or small gesture. He's extremely loyal which works against him at times but it's also appealing as he can always be counted on to help no matter how much pain he's in.

Justine is an immensely likable heroine who's worked for everything in her life. Nothing was handed to her and because of that she deserves the fame just starting to come her way. She loves being on stage and signing songs people can dance to but is stuck in a band helmed by an egotistical control freak jealous of her obvious talent. Meeting Dillon changes everything for her, both professionally and emotionally, and takes her on a journey of highs and lows that kept me on the edge of my seat rooting for her to succeed. She loved Dillon from the moment she heard his music and being around him enthralled her even more but his lifestyle leaves no room for her love so the only thing left is friendship. As her star rises she'll rely on his friendship even more as life and love bruise her confidence and break her heart. Things come full circle by the end of the story though to put a smile on my face with a truly HEA.

This was an intensely emotional story that goes full circle in two people's lives never pulling punches on the good or the bad. It makes for a heart-wrenching read that's immensely rewarding for its believability. The main characters are fully fleshed out and this made for a deep connection to the reader. The author perfectly balanced vivid depictions of living in the chaos of the music world with the quiet of everyday life. The sexual tension between Justine and Dillon was palpable which made their friendship heartbreaking at times since it was obvious they were made for each other and it left me rooting for that outcome no matter where life took them. Ultimately this was an exceptional read that left me exhausted, but oh so satisfied, by the gamut of emotions I went through. The characters were compelling and I didn't want the story to end but am looking forward to what Ms. Weaver has planned next as this story left me impressed by her talent.

4.5 stars!!

ALWAYS is a beautifully-written, completely engaging story of two best friends who are devoted to each other, loyal and support each other through the ups and downs of fame and stardom. It is also a heart-wrenching story of true love and the perils of fame and excess.

Although this is a standalone novel, all the characters are fascinating and I would love to read more about them! Justine and Dillon meet when she is the young lead singer in a local band on the fringes of making it. Dillon is a rock star, loaded with talent, sensitive, gorgeous and not immune to the temptations of life on the road. They bond instantly, he sees a huge takent in Justine and offers to mentor her and write songs for her. Her band is selected to go on tour with Dillon’s band and much friction, drinking, drugs and groupies ensue. Justine keeps her distance, thinking she is relegated to the friend zone.

Always is a fantastic song about the brutal realities of the music business and the very unglamourous side of life on the road. Not everyone can survive the touring and rock-and-roll lifestyle unscathed and Ms. Weaver shows us that the business is not for the faint of heart. I was rooting for Dillon and Justine to admit their deep love for each other but their path is not an easy one. Dillon, once the more famous one, watches with pride as Justine’s star rises and his falls gradually almost into obscurity.

This is a true romance story; yes, there’s plenty of sex, drugs and rock-and-roll, but the sex scenes are not graphic. The drugs use is not glossed over, however, and is heartbreaking at times. I absolutely loved this book and all of the characters. This is a story about true love, true friendship, and honesty. Ms. Weaver is an extremely talented writer and I am looking forward reading more of her books.

4.5 stars. This was a wonderfully written look at six years in the lives of the guitarist/song writer in an up and coming famous rock band and a girl singer in another very lesser known band. The girl singer has immense talent which is immediately apparent to the guitarist and he convinces his record company to let her lesser known band open for his band on a couple of month's tour.

While on the tour, the guitarist and singer form a deep friendship based on their love of music and both also feel a deeper relationship but the guitarist is more into the whole new world of rock and roll stardom and all that entails: groupies, drugs and alcohol so the singer tries to push her real feelings deep inside and she is not at all interested in the wild world of rock music. She just wants to make music.

It takes six years for each of them to come to grips with what they really feel for each other. During that time the girl singer becomes world famous, gets married (to a cheater, it turns out) and while she is still very close friends with the guitarist, thinks she has put her burning passion for him in the past. Meanwhile, the guitarist succumbs to the bad side of rock n roll and loses everything that was important to him, including his band. But, with the help of the singer, the guitarist puts his life back together and his priorities become clear.

I absolutely loved both main characters. I did a slow burn during the relationship the singer had with her boyfriend then husband. I am nothing if not loyal to the couples I want to see together, so I HATE when someone else gets involved. But I got rewarded in the end, and probably the relationship was a better one after what everyone went through. The only thing I didn't like was we didn't get to see all the happy parts after the reunion. We got all the angst and drugs, but not much of the happy.

Spoiler Free:

For me to get truly involved in a story I need to feel like I am there with the characters. I want to be consumed by the setting. I want to be entertained as well as learn from what I am reading. Finding such stories can be difficult. Not to mention finding a storyteller who can weave their tale around you to make you believe and care about what you are reading even more so.

Amanda has such a gift, and Always is a story that sucked me in from the beginning.

This is not your typical rock star romance. Dillon may be a rock god, and Justine an up and coming singer, but that's where all similarities end to any other story out there focusing on that genre.

The heat between Justine and Dillon was immediate, but lust wasn't the only thing present. Great secondary characters were introduced and we get the first taste of the relationships the main characters have with each of them and each other. This would not be a cut and dry story, it would be a roller coaster ride with many twists and turns.

Amanda allows us to see these character's strengths and weaknesses; their successes and the seedy back side. Their growth in themselves as well as in their relationships. In essence we see their humanness instead of one-dimensional characters.

All of it makes a believable, romantic story that will have you reading with hope as your bookmark for Justine and Dillon.

Four and half stars to Always.

(mild spoilers) Always, the debut novel by Amanda Weaver, is a real, gritty tale of friendship and love, and how it survives, and sometimes doesn't, the tough world of the music industry.

When Justine -- lead singer of a going-nowhere band -- meets her musical idol Dillon, songwriter and member of a quickly rising band, their chemistry is immediate. But that's all these musical soul mates are ready for, since Dillon is enjoying the lifestyle of a rock star as much as he can, as often as he can. Justine, though attracted to Dillon, is too smart to get involved with him romantically and be lumped in with the groupies the band entertains every night.

It would be easy to dislike Dillon in this situation, but Weaver's portrayal of rock star life -- good and bad -- engenders sympathy rather than hate. Dillon cares enough about Justine to keep his distance, which proves his love for her more than any physical act would have.

As Justine and Dillon separately experience success and failure, their friendship is constant and enduring, and is the backbone of this wonderful, real, and well-written story. Very enjoyable and highly recommended. Looking forward to more from this author in the future.

Well, this story took me on a well and truly emotional roller coaster, that’s for sure. I wasn’t even all that certain about what the outcome would be. I guess that’s why I liked this book so much.

“Always” is the self-published debut from Amanda Weaver. I’ve known her and her writing for a few years now and was so happy to see her publishing I couldn’t really wait to get my hands on it... I bought it on release day.

"Always" tells the story of Justine James and Dillon Pierce. Aspiring singer Justine take a chance meeting with her musical idol, Dillon, and develops a complicated friendship that spans several years, and several life experiences. It’s a rocky road to be sure, but through it all, Dillon and Justine are there for each other.

My heart broke at several places— the real circumstances of life including friendship, love, addiction, loyalties, loss... it all fit in beautifully just as life happens in real life. There was an element of the whole “ships passing in the night” thing with these two and it was frustrating and thrilling and sadly beautiful all at once.

The side characters were just as engaging, especially Ash, Dillon’s childhood friend and frontman of the band they formed. You want to equally hate and love him, and up wanting to hug him and all who are around him.

This book reminds us that life happens. It chews you up and spits you out, offering tidbits of joy and hope in between. But, I truly believe that good relationships come from adversity— strong relationships come from being there for the good, the bad and the very ugly. When someone is willing to accept you at your worst, that’s when it’s worth it all.

I can’t wait to see anything else Amanda Weaver is willing to share with the universe. I’ll be there with grabby hands.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story about the up and down roller coaster life of a rocketed to stardom singer.

Justine James is the charismatic lead singer in an otherwise mediocre Los Angeles band. She's paying her dues in small clubs and opening for larger rock bands. One New Year's Eve she gets the chance to meet her favorite boy band, Outlaw Rovers, who happen to attend the show. While most people are in awe of its lead singer, Ash, who's the pretty and popular leading man of the band. Justine sees past all of Ash's superficial beauty and really connects with the band's guitarist and musical mastermind, Dillon Pierce. She thinks the world hangs on Dillon's every word. They become fast friends and even though they both know there is an intense chemistry flowing between them, they don't act on it.

When Outlaw Rover convinces the powers that be to allow Justine's band to open on tour for them, Justine's life changes forever.

This story weaves a poignant plot about love, loss and loyalty. I really was captivated by this story from the very moment I picked it up and started reading. The author does a lovely job sucking you into the story and making you feel like you know these characters.

I found the plot to be well paced, even with quite a few large time jumps.

I highly recommend this for readers looking for a well written love story that spans years and obstacles.

Well done, Ms.Weaver. I am anxiously awaiting what you come up with next.

ALWAYS by Amanda Weaver
*was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I want to start off by saying how impressed I was with this being the first novel I have read by Amanda Weaver. I found Always to be extremely well written and very much a true love story of friendship. Isn’t that where love should start?

Always is a standalone novel but you will want more of this rock and roll group. Always begins with two Rock Stars, one at the top of his game and one up and coming, and they forge a friendship like no other and surrounded by music. Justine James and Dillon Pierce stand together as friends and face everything life has to throw them and in the end we get a HEA. I found this story one of the most realistic reads. The problems and hurtles that they each face and experience can be reflected in everyday life. The glamour and allure of major rock stardom is stripped to the bare bones and some of the ugly is shown.

The characters are amazing and honest and we all have friends that take us down roads that we may not belong on. I found the relationship with the secondary characters to be just as important as the main characters and really they are what drove the story. Yes, this is a romance but it is about falling in love at maybe not the right time. I really enjoyed Justine and Dillon’s story. It was a “clean” read; drugs and sex and lots of happenings but not descriptive over the top long details.

ALWAYS by Amanda Weaver receives 4 out of 5 Platypires!!!

OUT's Review

This book tells the fictional story of Justine James and Dillon Pierce who were both musicians into rock music in a big way. It is a story of meteoric rise and fall in the music business, and also of drugs, sex, and rock 'n roll. It's quite the roller coaster ride!.

Justine was the lead singer in a band that just happened to be opening for another band Dillon and his fellow band members had come to hear play on New Year's Eve 2008. When she went up and introduced herself to Dillon after their show she paved the way for years of friendship and musical collaboration. The story spans fro their first meeting in 2008 to present day. We see their personal growth through as their separate lives unfold and their friendship develops and deepens.

I loved this story and the characters. I found the life crisis' they found themselves in to be true-to-life and their situations handled realistically. I thought the writing to be well done. When reading this book I found myself anxious to keep reading in anticipation. The story had a good flow and reached a satisfying conclusion. I recommend this book to all who enjoy contemporary romance books about rock musicians. I gave the book five stars--it really struck a positive chord with me.

So this book hooked me. I loved Justine and Dillon and sometimes even Ash. It's hard for me to find books that grab me so whenever I do it feels like Christmas. I felt their chemistry strongly and I liked the way the author was able to do frequent time jumps without confusing the reader or making you feel left out of anything. I was eagerly anticipating the point where the H/h finally give in to their feelings. I don't want to give spoilers, but the plot line that ruined this book for me probably wouldn't ruin it for most others. I was so bummed. I still recommend it as a good read even though for me it went from a 4.5 to a 3.5 rating in one chapter. Hate when that happens, but please check it out out for yourself. It's honestly a good story.

Great story, great writing, great characters on this debut novel. Very well done. This is the story of love arriving at the wrong time in people's life and what happens until it's the right time. It is also the story of rock stars and fame and the backstage of it all. It caught me from the very beginning until the last page. I loved the main characters and they were very nicely developed. 4 1/2 stars from me. Looking forward to read more from this new author.

It took me awhile to get into this book, but after about 15% of the way in I could not put it down! This author was able to tell the story of two musicians so vividly that I could see it all playing out in my head like a movie. Always made me feel every emotion, disappointment, happiness, anger, despair, grief, sadness, and hope. This is a great story about friendship, loyalty, and love that will appeal to readers ranging from teens all the way through adulthood. Highly recommended!

I never leave reviews but I feel like I have to this time- I loved it so much. I always worry a little when an author I've followed online for a long time publishes Original Fiction, because so often the freedom that makes them great online is cut in their original stories, but I felt like I was reading one of Amanda's old stories when I read this. It was truly wonderful.

I got very attached the characters very quickly- something that is rare for me in third person POV novels- and went through roller coaster of emotions in the few hours it took me to read this. I literally didn't put it down from the moment I started reading.

I thought for a while there, after the big that the book would be ruined for me since I usually hate in books but, for once, I didn't and I felt like it actually added the story in a way that that I enjoyed it- I especially enjoyed seeing how Dillon handled the situation and how it showed how much he'd grown.

I love a HEA but nothing annoys me more than a HEA that is totally unrealistic. Amanda resolved things in such a perfect way, like it was exactly how Dillon and Justine's story was supposed to pan out all along.

I can't wait to read more of Amanda's writing!

TIme, time, time

OMG, what an emotional rollercoaster. Justine is so awesome. It is so like the young, fall for someone, not realize someone else is in love with you. Then by the time the one you love realizes they love you, you have moved on. Dillon was so consumed with being there for Ash that Dillon lost himself. By the time he is alone, he is really messed up. Sometimes I just wanted to smack Dillion. OPEN YOUR EYES!! See who is right in front of you. This story really pulls you into the story.

I'm always pleased when I discover an author out the blue who delivers an solid story (90% of authors are a downright disappointment!), even if it's without any bells and whistles; Weaver does that.

I'm a sucker for a romance-in-the-shadow-of-fame-story, a friends-to-lovers story, a missed-second-chance story, this novel has all of these plot points and it delivers them with aplomb.

Wow glad I found this again!

I read this novel years ago and enjoyed it, and this is my second time and I think I enjoyed it even more (I love book amnesia!)
The characters are compelling and it's a looooooooooong wait for them to find each other. But they do, and it's perfect.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this, and have stayed wrapped up in it all day.

Justine James was singing in a small-time band when she met her musical idol, Dillon Pierce. Dillon was the driving force of his band Outlaw Rovers, whose star was on the rise in a big way. From the moment they met, Justine and Dillon clicked, and quickly discovered they were musical soulmates. They got each other in way no one ever had before. Justine knew what Dillon's life was like at that point with the band's fame exploding, and Dillon knew their connection was too special to waste on something temporary. They mutually decided to be friends and counted on that relationship, through the years that followed.

I loved Justine from the beginning. She was no-bullshit and said what she thought. But she was also kind and caring, and tried to look out for the people she cared about. Justine wanted success but she had no interest in the party-hard lifestyle that some seemed to take for granted. She just wanted to make music and perform for others that loved it too.

Dillon was everything you could want, hot, sweet and considerate...when he wasn't trying to keep up with his best friend and bandmate Ash. Unfortunately, Ash seemed determined to live the rock & roll scene to the fullest, and it seemed that Dillon would flame out with him.

Amanda Weaver has written a story that you can fall all the way into. The intensity between Justine and Dillon was palpable, I felt it with them, along with everything they go through over the years. The tragedies, missed chances and heartbreaks were sometimes wrenching, sometimes frustrating but I was never able to stop myself from hoping things would bring them where they truly belonged.

The pacing was wonderful. The story rolled out in such a realistic, natural way that there were times I was just as taken by surprise or shocked at something as the characters were. The romance was never something you could take for granted, and for so long felt just out of reach. The ending, however, was every romantic thing I wished for. Loved it, and look forward to reading more Ms Weaver!

Justine James is a talented singer in a mediocre band with a very controlling songwriter. Dillon Pierce is the guitarist and song writer for a talented band that is becoming very popular. Dillon is attending a show where he sees Justine performing. Despite him knowing immediately that her band is mediocre, he sees the immense talent and potential in her immediately. Justine has been a huge fan of Dillon's band, and more specifically, has had a huge crush on Dillon and his musical genius. When they meet it is clear that they share a serious musical connection and understanding. Dillon gets Justine's band to tour with them as the opening act, and despite their strong friendship and obvious attraction to one another, Justine is not going to give into anything as long as Dillon is living the rock star life with the reckless lead singer of his band Ash.

Years pass, and both characters go through levels of success at different times. Through all the ups and downs, Justine and Dillon remain close, but various issues keep preventing them from acting on their desires. Both characters at different times realize that their windows of opportunity may never align, but neither can deny what feels meant to be.

If you like a long slow burn, this book is for you. It hooked me from the beginning and kept me engaged throughout. There are a lot of emotional elements at play as we watch both characters struggle, suffer, and thrive. The story spans a lot of time and both characters go through different transformations, some good and some bad, while always maintaining a strong friendship throughout. There is angst all over the place in this story, and boy did I feel it. Through it all, I enjoyed taking this journey with these characters. I really cared about both of them and was really hoping that they would be able to sort things out and live the life I knew they could have. I recommend this to those looking for a story about music and love.

The writing wasn't spectacular but it was very good. There was little smut, but this book didn't need it. Most of all I really liked the characters and the non-flinching way the author showed this world but didn't shove it in your face - look - SEX/DRUGS/RNR - but more look what happens to people who fully embrace the lifestyle.

Justine was amazing. A strong, smart, kind, reflective, beautiful person in all ways. She knew what she wanted and wasn't going to settle. Yet she also wasn't a bitch or hateful. Honestly I loved her even though I usually like my heroines more feisty and honestly at times. more hard core. But she won me over. She loved Dillion. but when she decided she wasn't going to compete for him with groupies if that was what he wanted - I was like - finally. Let him have what he wants and you do your own thing. Which she did. Husband and baby included.

Dillion was the same. On paper he could have been the drugged out, sexed out, delusional rock star but he wasn't. He always had this side of him (mostly due to Justine) and the way he grew up, that stayed real. And I loved that when he realized that he had blown it, he didn't turn bitter or get worse. He changed his actions, yet stayed the friend Justine had and needed. And bides his time.

The secondary characters like Ash, Emily and Rocky were also interesting even though I would have liked to have seen more of them in some cases especially Emily.

Finally, I sometimes crave a little more over the top angst in my books, but this one kept my interest the whole way through and never made me want to throw my reader against the wall. Even when they weren't together romantically they were still connected. Its really hard to write that well but Amanda did. 4.6 stars from me mostly because we didn't see that much of them together as a couple. But overall I really liked it.

This story follows 2 people involved in the music industry. Justine James is the lead singer of the band Failsafe. Dillion Pierce is the lead guitarist/producer of the popular rock group Outlaw Rovers. One New Year’s Eve gig in Los Angeles, changes the lives of these 2 and opens the door to relationship. When drugs, sex, and rock and roll collide, will Justine and Dillon have their happily ever after?
Amanda took me on a journey through the lives of Justine and Dillon. Chapters were described as months/years and it was good touch. It did help me keep up with the time frame as it did change often. I was about 20% of the book when I felt like I didn’t know what the book was going to take me. It is one heck of a ride and I kept telling myself “there just has to be a happy ending.” I am glad that Justine has her head on straight. The temptations of the road never got to her. Now Dillon was a different story. “Always” depicts a growth within a relationship in a long time frame. Sometimes love isn’t so quick to grow. And there can many realistic hiccups along the way. This love story was not all rainbows and butterflies. Death, success, desire and strength molded these characters.
Music lovers will enjoy this book since it takes you behind the scenes and on the road. Now for those that love a good smutty read, you would have to go elsewhere. While there is sex, you were told it happened. No descriptions. But there is a surprise at the end ;) It was a nice change and a good read. 4 smooches for Always by Amanda Weaver.

Wow. It's been a while since I've read a story that held me captive until I got to the very end. Always, the debut novel by Amanda Weaver, is a rich, gritty tale of love in the music industry and through the very challenging circumstance life often throws our way.

Justine James is the lead singer of a going-nowhere band in LA. She's got a powerhouse voice and killer stage presence, all of which is trapped beneath the drudgery of a bandmate that's hiding secrets of his own and songs that are barely memorable, if that. But on New Years Eve 2007, Justine gets the first of many opportunities to shine. That's when she meets Dillon Pierce and his best friend, Ash, of the popular and successful, Outlaw Rovers. While Ash may be the lead, it's Dillon that catches Justine's eye.

And not just because he's attractive. He and Justine have a chemistry that reverberates through the room and a shared love of music. That connection is the lifeblood of their story and will carry them through a very rocky tour and the subsequent ups and downs that come their way over the course of six years.

This story is gritty and real. Weaver doesn't shy away from the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll you'd expect to find in a novel like this. But it's in that grittiness we see the toll that lifestyle exacts and the fight for what's important. Always had me hanging on to every word, watching and waiting to see how Justine and Dillon came out in the end. I wasn't disappointed, and you won't be either.
