Karen knows damn well a thirst for adventure can lead straight into blood, death, and nightmares. Yet when a stranger walks into her stables to board one of the most sought after stallions in the equine world, she is thrust straight into a waking torment of espionage and pain.Armed only with a band of badass friends, Karen dives deep to discover why she wears the target. The harsh light of reality shines on past deceptions as her friends die to keep her alive. Weighed down with the trauma of the ever-growing stakes, can Karen survive the oncoming carnage which threatens to fracture her mind?
Author T.J. Loveless delivers an action packed thrill ride with Fractured Steel. A female war hero, a horse worth millions, and espionage—those three things alone scream action. Add in a family of psychopaths and international government secrets and you have something that takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride and leaves you exhausted, awe struck, and affected at the end.
Karen Barnes is the main character. She is trying to readjust to civilian life on her late father’s horse farm when all hell breaks lose. The first couple of chapters were a little touch and go for me because there are certain subjects that I just like to avoid. Physical abuse, animal cruelty, and sexual abuse are all present but nothing is overly graphic. They are part of Karen’s story but not her whole story and I think that is what makes this book one to remember.
It isn’t a rainbow and butterflies story. It is a dark story that showcases the worst and the best in people. The heroine is scarred and broken and at times you find yourself agreeing with her that there is only so much that one person should have to endure. To say she is a survivor is an understatement. She suffers, she fights, and then she suffers even more. She is a survivor that at times is barely surviving but it is that smallest bit of hope, anger, and strength that keeps her going for another day. That was the message that I came away with at the end of this book. That life can sometimes be impossibly horrible but as long as we continue to fight then there is a chance of a better tomorrow.
Fractured Steel features several characters that are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The characters are all are at varied stages of recovery but for me the message was clear; healing takes time, the pain is real, and sometimes the scars that aren’t visible take the longest to heal.
This book will be in my list of top ten reads for the year. Not because it made me smile or laugh but because it made me feel, think, hope and appreciate the strength that it takes to survive.
Oh my dayz what have I just read and how am I going to review it. Yes that's the thought I had after reading this book and then reading the note from the author. This is a thoroughly brilliantly well-written story. To say I was gripped is an understatement. There was no way I could guess what was happening next. When I read that it had horses in it I groaned as I thought it wouldn't hold my attention. I was so so wrong. This is the story of Karen.... Yes that's all your going to get from me. The description of this book only tips the surface of what this book is about. I'm so glad the subject of PTSD was in this book as it's not talked about enough. I'm scratching my head wondering why my book friends have not read this gem. I'll certainly be recommending it to them.
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I gave this book 5 stars. I read this book and needed a few days before I could leave this review. This is one of those books.
This is not a love story. This is a story about survival, and learning to live with the bad things that happen to you in your life. And that is what Karen has to do, she has been through a tour in Iraq and is now in Wyoming on her dads horse farm that is now hers. She wants the simple life, she needs the simple life. One day while she is tending to her horses a man comes in to talk to her about boarding a horse, a horse that she knows well. A horse that is worth millions of dollars. She has her suspicions that Five Alarm has been stolen. She turns the man down and after that her life is never the same.
She seems to be back in a nightmare like the one she lived when she was in Iraq. She is in the middle of something big and she has to try and survive it as well try to figure out why all this is happening to her.
She will find out things that she will not understand and things that will put her in more danger then she already is in. Can she stay strong and make it through this or is it going to tear her apart. How much can one person take? You will find out when you go on this Journey with Karen when she sees that things in her life are not as they seem. Can she trust everyone that is around her? Just when she thinks she can something else happens and the poor girl goes through hell once again!
I know every time something else happened to her I wanted to scream, so I can't even imagine what she was feeling. She is a strong woman and a woman who is determined to be everything that she can be. She is intelligent and I loved her. She has a special bond with her horse Five Alarm and it feels that they are some how connected through out the book. It feels like they need each other to survive.
It was nice to read a story who did not have a man as the main character beside the woman but it was a horse. A beautiful strong horse that goes through just as much as Karen does. Both of them get damaged beyond repair and it kept me on the edge of my seat reading how they tried to crawl back to life and survive.
Thank you TJ for a amazing and very interesting book!
I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I have strong opinions on the generalization of PTSD. No two people handle stress and, or terror the same. With many different levels of PTSD I don't believe it ever can be generalized. This book gave a very good insight to the life of a person living with PTSD. This book is not only action packed. But also chalked full of the bravery and strength of one woman's life. Karen's life went from getting over the trauma of her time in Iraq to hell. Going from one battle to the next. With every person that comes into her life turning into a person who tries to murder her. Seeing too much death and experiencing WAY too much trauma. Her pets all murdered. All that's left is her battle worn horse Five Alarm and her friend Aiden who's lived through half of the mayhem with her. Her home being violated and demolished at the hands of the German government. After giving in and finally putting a call into her Uncle who happens to be the VP of the good ole USA. Karen is left to try and pick up the pieces of herself. As well as earn back the trust of her beloved Five Alarm. There's so much heart break in this book. With time, and understanding. Karen pulls through. So does Five Alarm. Both are absolutely AMAZINGLY brave characters in this book. These two characters scream to never give up. No matter how hard or how difficult it may seem at the moment. Things do always get better.
How on earth do you review a book like this and do it justice. It's left me with tears in my eyes, and that was before I read the authors notes at the end.
The plot twists and turns so much in this book, and it's as though every twist leaves yet another scar on Karen, both physical and mental. This isn't a romance in any shape or form, truth be told it's one nightmare after another, and in some ways feels so far fetched it's laughable.
The brutality in this book to both humans and horses is appalling, but this book doesn't glorify that, it celebrates healing and recovery and pure strength.
To survive just one of the incidents Karen endures takes a strong character, to survive them all, I honestly don't know how she does it.
This book deals with P.T,S.D, a lot of the story revolves around it, the rest of the story is an unbelievable plot that leaves you wondering what the hell is going to happen next. There are also some amazing scenes written about working with the horses, the detail and passion shows through.
Saying I enjoyed this book feels wrong, after all, the events in the book aren't anything to enjoy, they're barely something you'd expect someone to survive, but what I can say I enjoyed is the talent this author shows in creating the characters, weaving a story line that leaves you shaking your head at the screen.
If you're looking for romance or erotic fiction then this is not a book for you, however if you're a fan iPod mysteries and conspiracies and love a strong female lead them this is for you. Just don't expect to come away from it dry eyed.
It looks like I'm in the minority here. This book started off great, but it just ended up becoming ridiculous about halfway through. I understand that fiction is about suspending belief, but I struggled to do so while reading this.
The main hero recovers from physical injuries like a superhero, and I found her personality hard to like. She will basically shoot an innocent guy just for ignoring her question. Okay?!
I struggled to find the climax in the book. It seemed like things were already wrapped up about halfway through, but nope.... there's a bunch of more political nonsense that dragged on.
It seems like the author needed to pick a subject, because there was too much going on: A super hardcore soldier girl with PTSD, horses, a kidnapping for reasons that dumbfounded me, unbelievable political scandals, clueless villains, a mysterious mother that abandoned her.
I was given and ARC of Fractured Steel in exchange for an honest review.
To say I enjoyed Fractured Steel would be inaccurate. One doesn't precisely enjoy watching another human being endure what Karen Barnes endured. "Normal" people (and I use that term loosely) do not get a kick out of witnessing animals in distress and danger. So, no, I did not "enjoy" Fractured Steel; I was enthralled by it, angered by it, captivated by it...in short I was emotionally engaged in the story, along for the roller coaster ride that took me to places I might not otherwise choose to go. I have never been in a truly traumatic situation and so PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) for me has only been a story arc on NCIS or Parenthood. As a result of reading Fractured Steel, I have a new appreciation for those who suffer from this life-altering disorder. I want to make it clear, however, that while PTSD was highlighted in T.J. Loveless's novel, Fractured Steel is not a thinly veiled treatise on the effects of PTSD in the guise of fiction. It is a thoroughly riveting story full of human and equine pathos, courage and determination. Do I recommend it? I certainly do, if you've got the guts for it!
Karen - one tough woman. Five Alarm - one cool, tough horse. One woman's attempt to get thru everything life throws at her. That is what Fractured Steel was to me. If you want romance, this isn't it, unless a woman figuring out how to love herself and her way back into her life counts . What this book does give the reader is a look at PTSD and anxiety, both of which I can relate to, all while incorporating suspense, mystery, chills and thrills.
This is the book I will recommend to everyone this year. It is not like anything I have read by T.J. Loveless. It is not like anything I have read in years, if ever. I want more. I want books to make me feel like this one did. Even if the feelings are raw and fractured.
I am a fan of T.J. Loveless. I have read everything she has published to date. But if you read one book by her, read this one. And then tell me it didn't affect you in some way. It did me, right to my core.
I was torn between wanting to give this book 4 stars and 5 stars because I don't particularly care about horses but wasn't able to give 4.5 stars.
However, I give 5 stars because it is an incredible story. It shows the beautiful bond between a woman and her horses and I love how they learn to heal together.
It was intense to hear of all that she had suffered through and I felt the pain and sadness for her and just wanted all the bad to stop and for her to be happy! I cannot wait for the next in this series because I feel I will enjoy it even more. :)
Look at everyone else's rating/review before you consider mine. I'm in the minority here so ignore me. However, I really disliked this book but I think I need to write an actual review & not just ramble. Thus, my worthless opinion must wait. I'll try to do an actual review later this weekend.
This story is the first TJ Loveless novel I've read and I am a fan.
This story was very emotional to say the least. I was on a roller coaster of emotions throughout it all and loved every second.
Karen Barnes is a rancher and horse trainer. She is a retired United States Army Captain and has been dealing with her own issues after trying to return to normal life as a civilian.
One day is all it takes to turn her life upside down and for her to go back to struggling with her issues. Right when she thinks she can live a normal life a chain of events tests her. A stranger comes over to her ranch about boarding a famous horse foaled in her stables and was trained by her personally. She has the rights to the horse, Five Alarm, if the current owners ever decide to sell and for the stranger to approach her put her on high alert. From this moment forward her life is put through hell and back. She was tested beyond her limits and the only thing keeping her alive is that she is the only person that can get the horse calm. She fights back as best as she could and no matter how weak she gets, she chooses her battles wisely. She doesn't discovery the true treachery of the horrific events she was put through until she calls in trusted allies to help her out. From then on she understands everything leading up to her current circumstance is a cover up for espionage.
People she thought she trusted betray her. Her sense of trust has been demolished because she has been through it all. She rescues Five Alarm and another victim when she escapes from being kidnapped and thought she was safe. But it was only the beginning. She was being pawned left and right in a show of political power until she finally uses her own weight in the political world and asks for back up. When she finally can breathe easily and thought her ordeal was over she has to go through the emotional shackles of the mental strain she was put through. Her memories from her tour when she was in the Army merge with her memories of what she was put through just recently and test her endurance and mental capacity.
The issues that are mentioned in this book are very close to my heart because I have had loved ones go through them as well. I have seen the carnage memories can invoke and have felt the helplessness of not being able to take the pain away from them and instead just try to be as supportive as I possibly can. The only thing that I could possibly bring to commit to my resolve is that it will one day get better and that is also the mentality I thrust on my loved ones.
The meaning behind the title in my opinion is perfection. This story is about endurance, honor, survival, and being strong. We all go through life as warriors, as fighters, and being tested is what makes or breaks us. Fractured steel is the kind of story that brings to you the fight and stress that you can be put through and even though you may have scars from your experience, it makes you that much more stronger and prouder to wear your scars openly because they are a part of you. You will be riveted with this story and you will not want to put it down when you read it because I know I didn't. I was borderline obsessed with how the story would end and I'm glad it was great.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I got this book by accident. I mean, I was given this book, but I have other reviewers that review for me. Somehow, this one got missed and wasn't assigned. I read the synopsis and decided that it didn't sound too far off from stuff that I normally read. I was just hoping it didn't have any "sneaky" romance in it as I have been fooled by the synopsis of books before. I am SO glad I got to read this book!!
Karen Barnes is a bad ass; she just doesn't know it yet. She had a horrific time in Iraq and just wants to be on her farm with her horses and forget about it. But, someone else has different plans for her. She is kidnapped, beaten, almost killed several times and betrayed by countless people. The amount of tragedy and suffering that she gets in this story is astonishing. The fact that she can still say her name and breath through half of this stuff is a testament to her courage and strength.
I know that PTSD is real. I wholeheartedly believe that not enough people are diagnosed with it nor do they seek treatment for it. I personally know people that have had it and didn't want to admit it because they think they are going to be laughed at or not believed. They are afraid that they are going to be seen as less of a person or weak because they admit that this is happening. There have been so many needless deaths from people committing suicide from this. I am glad that T.J. wrote about this as it is a really big elephant in the room that deserves more publicity and less stigma.
I love all of the animal references in this book. Animals are truly cathartic and therapeutic. They are a great resource for people with mental, physical and developmental issues. I believe in the power of their love and innocence. The fact that they have pure, unbiased love for humans no matter what has got to be healing. Animals love you even if you are dirty, smelly, in pain, ugly, scarred, beaten...in any size, shape or form. If only people could learn a little of that from animals, the world would be a much better place. I give this story 5 books and can't wait to read more from T.J. Loveless.
I received an ARC of Fractured Steel in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. Just Wow. There is a strong message in this story. I honestly don't know what to say…
There are bits and pieces that were left out. I was trying to figure out what in the world happened. It was confusing, yet at the same time I didn't want to stop reading. From the very beginning there is action. You don't know what the hell is going to happen next.
Karen was a Captain in the in the Military. Now she takes care of horses, trains them, etc. It's her passion and the one thing that's basically keeping her sane after her last tour. A Stranger comes to her ranch trying to board a horse….a horse that she knows a lot about and one that she knows something is off about. When her fears come to life and it's basically a fight for her life, i'll just say, "Nothing is as it seems." This poor woman goes through hell, yet she still finds the strength to keep going. For that she deserves all kinds of standing ovations etc. Things she finds out are not easy to stomach. She finds people she thought she could trust, end up being people that betray her. Her father isn't what she though he was. It goes a lot deeper than just a horse being stolen.
If your wanting a suspenseful read. Then I suggest you buckle up and hold on tight, because it's one hell of a roller coaster ride.
I wish it was longer. I wish some things could of been more described. I have soooo many questions. *sigh*
I rate Fractured Steel 4 stars.
There is a quote at the end of the book in a Note from the Author. I just had to share it:
For those of you who also live with PTSD: "Every day you get up, and put your feet on the floor, is a victory. You count, you are worthy, you are not broken beyond repair. It is not “just in your head.” You are my heroes. I’m here for you." ~ TJ
This was the first book I've read by author T.J Loveless and as a first it was memorable to say the least.
Let me say this first, if you're looking for a happily ever after then you picked the wrong book, cause this aint it.
This is a book about survival. A book about dealing with all the bad things that life deals you with. A book about getting up, dusting yourself off and carrying on. Something that Karen knows to well after a tour of duty in Iraq a decade ago.
Following your gut instincts can sometimes be a good thing, along with split minute decisions, but in Karen's case they both backfire and she finds herself in a nightmare situation just like she did in Iraq. She now how has to find it in herself to survive the situation she finds herself in as well as try to figure out how this involves her. Just when you think that things are going her way, something happens that knocks the wind out of her and leaves her reeling. She doesn't know who to turn to, who to trust.
Reading Fractured Steel was hard. I can relate to Karen in so many different ways. The issues she has with trusting people. Trying to pick yourself up when you've been knocked down so many times. Dealing with anxiety and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), something I had no idea about till I saw a psychologist last September. Seeing a person, even a fictional one endure what you do on a daily basis is staggering and i take my hat off to the author for giving voice to Karen's story.
The book left me reeling, angered but enthralled from start to finish. Its definatly not a book for the fainthearted, but if you have guts then i highly recommend it.
**************Received this book as an ARC*************
Holy shit where do I even being with this book? I was stressed, confused, mad, sad, happy all in the span of 172 pages!
This book was intense and let me just start by saying Karen was a bad ass bitch! Throughout this book she took one hit after another and although she was damaged a little more with each event she still came out swinging on the other side.
I would not want to be on her bad side that is for sure.
This book was a story about healing. Throughout this book Karen was placed into some of the worst situations imaginable and she found a way to get the balance and build the trust she needed to survive.
I was left with a few questions still at the end of this book that maybe I missed something or maybe they were left unanswered, like why did Jake betray her? What was in it for him? Maybe I missed something but maybe not (confused)
I can say I was sad to see Aiden go but glad that he went with the promise of best friend status! He seemed sexy enough for me to want he and Karen to find a happy ending together but friendship was happy enough for them!
Karen had friends in high places and when it came down to it they stepped up and helped her out but not before all hell broke loose that is for sure. Like I said Karen was one bad ass bitch and I loved her!
If you are up for an emotional roller coaster with some terror, espionage and love thrown into it then this is the book for you! I look forward to reading more from T.J. Loveless in the future.
***** I receive an ARC copy for an exchange of an honest review *****
First let me just say that this is the first book that I read from this author.
Oh HOLY SMOKE I just read this book, and I have to say I don't know what I was getting my self into when I stared to read it. I love it and love the characters, this book is full of action, love it the way the author wrote this book, I am gone keep it short cause I don't want to give anything away. All I could say is that this is one book that will have you in an emotional roller coaster.
Karen Barnes is one tough girl, with one tough horse Five Alarm, she has being through so much that its not even funny, every time you turned the page their was something going on, that had her fighting to survive, and to top it all off she was also suffering from PTSD. that has to do with the time that she spend in Iraq, and life just kept throwing things her way but she always get out of it.
I really enjoy reading this book and love it how she is healing from everything that she when through. and how the horses are also healing I love reading about animal specially horses being that I love them, their is so much going on in this book that I wish that I could just put it all down in my review but I cant don't want to spoiled anything.
But I could tell you that you will love and enjoy this book. Author T.J. Loveless THANK YOU for introducing me to this Awesome book and this Amazing characters love it.
This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster as you see the world through the eyes of Karen Barnes - horse trainer, a war veteran, survivor.
We find out during the prologue that Karen is dealing with demons and the demons appear to be winning. From an early age, Karen was taught survival skills while growing up on a horse farm. She continued her survival skills while with the military and fighting in combat. Karen came back wounded, physically and mentally.
Now Karen is learning there was more to her father's reasons for those survival skills. As Karen fights for her sanity and the recovery of her precious horse, she finally works through her fear from the war and learns to live for tomorrow.
Karen's story is not unique. However, it is subject matter largely ignored by the public. Many, many people live with Post-Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - due to various reasons, the war being one. I felt that TJ Loveless captured the emotions of Karen's ordeal very accurately. She didn't try to glorify the real issues most people living with PTSD experience. I applaud her for bring this to the public, as well as incorporating many of her own symptoms into the story. It defiantly made Karen more real to the reader.
Fractured Steel is an emotional story with twists and turn throughout. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well written, well told life story.
For those of your that just skim the reviews let me just start off by saying I loved this book. The author put great effort into this book and it shows with every turn of the page. I’m so glad I was given the chance to read such a great story.
With that said and out of the way for the skimmers… Holy smokes! I loved the story but didn't enjoy some of the content. That doesn't mean it wasn't a great story, because it certainly was. The pain and suffering, both physical and mental, on the people in the book as well as the horses was a little much to bear. However, it is what gets you to the meat of the story which is the strength of the characters and their amazing recovery and healing.
The characters are awe inspiring. Whether you or a loved one has suffered or dealt with PTSD or are just finding courage to fight whatever battle you have on your plate you are completely connected throughout the book.
This book received five stars from me and it’s not because it made me swoon, laugh out loud, or blush. It is because I felt hope and was reminded of the strength we all possess inside us to survive. You just need to learn to appreciate and move forward. When there is a will there is always a way.
Thank you, T.J. Loveless for the amazing read. Good luck with everything past, present, and future.
First off I have never read anything like this; it was totally out of my realm of reading. When I first started it I was little hesitant, thinking there was no way I was going to like it. But I gave it a chance and oh my freaking gawd! I am so glad I did, after about 2 chapters I was sucked in..there is no other way to explain it. All of my first thoughts were pushed aside and I was just in total awe. This story is so heart wrenching and emotional, but beautiful at the same time. I’m not quite sure how that is possible and I can’t even begin to tell you. Karen is fighting so many demons and just as she is coming to terms and dealing all hell breaks loose. From horses that she loves with her whole heart to her beloved dog her world is torn right out from under her. The amount of pain that is inflicted and the betrayal that Karen is thrown is absolutely heart breaking, she is the toughest woman I have read about, putting strangers before herself, including her beloved horse Five Alarm. The whole way through the story I was going crazy in my head, think what in the hell, can’t this poor woman ever catch a break? I just could not ever imagine staying as strong as Karen especially after so many secrets are revealed. Amazing story, if you are looking for total mind domination then this is it! I was still reeling 3 days later.
WOW!!!! JUST WOW!!! What just happened? I'm left speechless and just exhausted! I'm a blogger of romance and smut books so I assumed this was within my genre and I'll confess I didn't read the blurb before I started the book like I usually do and I'm glad I didn't because I probably wouldn't have read it. BUT IM SOOOOOO GLAD I DID! It was a nice break from my Romance HEA's.
Karen Barnes is my Hero. I can't even touch on what she went through in this book. As a sufferer of PTSD she battles and battles to survive on every page. I ugly cried and cheered. Was sad and happy. Was relieved and shocked! Had anxiety and peace....
I felt every emotion imaginable in this book. As a survivor myself I really wanted peace for Karen. But will she find it? With the life of her most prized horse at stake, Karen learns of government espionage, family secrets and betrayal. Can't remember the last time a book has grabbed ahold of me like this one. I don't even feel like I can leave a good enough review to be honest.
When I said I was speechless....I meant it!
The writing is exceptional. The story is amazing. I just can't say it enough... WOW!!! JUST WOW!!!
Fractured Steel is a heart wrenching read through one woman's journey through not only horrendous situations, but also the process of healing.
It is the story of Karen, horse lover and Iraq war soldier who has retreated to her out of the way ranch to heal from the atrocities of war. But it's that very seclusion that leaves her vulnerable to a crew of men intent on not only kidnapping the beloved championship horse Five Alarm, but Karen as well, since she is the only one who can manage the temperamental stallion. These men torture both Karen and Five physically and mentally, and the lengths of betrayal leave not only Karen, but the reader guessing who can be trusted.
This book will leave your emotions feeling raw, all the while making it impossible to put the book down in hopes that Karen and Five can not only survive, but find peace at the end.
Amazing job TJ!
*I was given an eArc in exchange for my honest opinion*
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review during the Fractured Steel Blog Tour.
I love suspense books and OMG the suspense in this one...I was speechless and surprised many times while reading this book. That's a good thing. I love to get the unexpected in a book. The author delivered on all the levels for me. I even learnt new words (English is not my mother tongue). That's always awesome. And I learnt lots of things about horses too.
T.J. has managed to take me on a trip along with Karen (the main female character). I felt her pain and endured all the hardships along with her. One simply has to love a book that makes you feel like the characters in the book. Now, because I want to make this a spoiler free review I'd better stop writing here.
Rating - 5 stars
Who would I recommend it to - suspense & thriller fans, T.J. Loveless fans
For all the Darkness we see in ourselves, Someone is there seeing the light!! I was floored while reading this book. I connected to Karen on several levels. No i was not involved in espionage or the military, but i felt her guilt and pain throughout the entire book. T.J Loveless is my hero!! To be able to touch me on the most intimate soulful level this book touched me and tought me more than i would have thought! Regardless of what happened to Karen she found her way out of the dark from 4 legged animals!! I fell in love with Five right of the bat as well as Karen. These two live through horror and heal together. To doubt everyone and anyone around you and still survive is phenomenal!! I will be looking forward to more Books From someone who can relate to those who may not think they have the strength to go on....... This book give hope and light
Fractured Steel is a heartbreaking story about a woman named Karen who is put through one nightmare after another. She is living on a ranch in Wyoming and trying to forget about the war she returned from, she is faced with the battle for her life.
She is kidnapped, tortured, sodomized, and force to watch many people and animals murdered in front of her.
Every chapter has you on the edge of your seat with your heart in your throat. It is almost unbearable to read about the things that happen to this poor woman.
I have extreme praise for the courageous author who wrote this story to teach us about the horrific pain of PTSD. My heart goes out to her and many others who suffer from this crippling disorder.
Everyone should read this book and enlighten themselves with what these poor people have to suffer through.
This book was one of the most 'real' feeling, emotion grabbing, rides I've had in a while. Only a few books make me put them down. Not because it was bad, but because it was that well written. So well written that I felt everything that Karen felt, and could understand and feel what she was going through, before, during and after the horrors. I may not have PTSD, but I can say now, that I understand a little of what those who have it are going through.
The response, fight on, even if each moment is a fight, but you can't push others to heal. Each has their own pain and their own way of knitting their lives, heads and hearts back together.
PS. Five stole my heart, and I'm not a horse person.
Tears streamed down my face. Pain literally hurt my heart. Joy spread through me and I wanted to keep cheering Karen on! I was more than surprised by this story. It was so intense and extremely breath taking. Thank you TJ for touching on a serious, debilitating reaction to trama. It was personally touching and impactful. Many of us will hide behind the doors with lots of locks on it (figuratively and literally). Thank you for bringing Karen to the point of trying to live again! It was unlocking one lock at a time and one step at a time, but it felt real. Karen and Five Alarm made me so proud!! Even though this story was filled with horror and pain, it is so important that you showed the light on the other side of tragedy!!
I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.
When I first started this book, I was unsure if I could finish it because it failed to capture my attention in the first few pages. I kept reading anyways and it was the BEST decision I've ever made. This book was beautifully written. The amount of emotion behind the story was overwhelming but in a pleasant way. To see what Karen had endured through all of that was miraculous. She was a warrior.
The story had a steady pace to it. Nothing was rushed or too slow. The visuals, the words created made it seem like real life.
All in all, I give Fractured Steel a 5 out of 5. Well done, TJ.
This book has left me speechless, just .. no words at all. I felt with Karen. This book it just ..wow.. lol only one other book has left me this speechless. Living with PTSD is not easy and Karen had A LOT of demons, not knowing the truth, about what your life was and who your family really is. I don't think my review would do this book any justice. T.J. I loved this book, I will hold it dear to my heart. Even though things happened to Karen she tried to fight, but at the same time she got tired and wanted to give up, but she didn't her friend Aiden wouldn't let her. I read the words between the lines and they are beautiful and strong. I give Fractured Steel 5++ stars. ~Chris
book gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. OK I had so many mixed emotions with this book its not even funny, the talk of horses for me was all a bit much and overwhelming I have no clue whatsoever as to what it meant , I was about ready to give up and the book twisted and took a turn for good and I thought to myself I was really enjoying it, then there were parts that made me think what ???? nope not having that, for me there is such thing as too many twist and turns this girl just couldn't catch a break but.. in spite of all that it is a really good and shock filled story so TJ I give you 4 stars well done
