The wayward groom’s half-brother Colt on her porch the next morning gazing at her with concern in his sexy blue eyes, and apologies on his full kissable lips? Uh… Check?
That was six months ago. Now, with a job she loves, her heart mended and her pride put back together, the last thing Chrissie expects is Colt standing behind her saying he’s got an answer for her. Problem is, she can’t seem to remember what the question was.
But Colt does. And as the CEO of a cookie company, it’s his job to pay attention to the details.
“Maybe I should have married you instead,” she’d said in the midst of heartbreak and humiliation. She’d been right. She should’ve married him instead and with a blend of persistence and seduction, he’s set out to convince her of the truth of her words that long ago day. But their first kiss is hotter than the southern Georgia days are long and he wonders just who’s seducing who.
Chrissie is primed and ready to burn up Colt’s bedsheets and he’s not inclined to say no, but will she ever trust him? Will she ever believe that he’s not going anywhere? Maybe. If he brings her cookies…
This story takes place in Georgia, where Chrissie, who comes from a somewhat high society family, was jilted and left at the altar by Russ. Russ’ brother, Colt, has had a thing for Chrissie since he first met her but has kept out of the picture wanting the couple to be happy together. After the big event that wasn’t, Colt makes his move. He stops to check in on Chrissie, checks in with her family, etc. to make sure she is ok after what happened. He then lets some time pass for her to get over Russ before actually making his future plans known to her.
Chrissie was more of a home country girl, as opposed to the high society trophy wife Russ had been looking for, so they were never right for each other. Colt, on the other hand, while the head of the family’s company, is looking for someone exactly like Chrissie. The more he learns about her, the more he is convinced they are perfect for each other, and he quickly sets out to convince Chrissie of the same.
This is a very sweet, sexy and fun story. Colt and Chrissie make a really nice couple. She is spunky and not afraid to speak her mind, which Colt finds refreshing. He banters right back with her. Without the hot sex and phone sex, this could have easily been a Hallmark movie. Nothing real earthshattering happens, and it moves along at a fairly slow pace. I did feel there were some areas that could have been expanded upon, and there really wasn’t a whole lot of angst. Everything seemed to just work out without much help from anyone, but if you’re looking for a nice somewhat easy romance, give this a try.
There’s just something so real about Lissa Matthews writing. I love that her characters even if well off they are somewhat grounded, she always puts a unique twist on her plot, and she writes sex scenes that leave you satisfied but always wanting more. In Keep It Together she does that and on top she adds a little bit of taboo when a jilted bride is pursued by the ex-groom’s half brother.
Chrissie grew up in a privileged household and although she respects her parents and their lifestyle it’s not really who she is. When she’s stood up at the altar by her lawyer fiancé, she’s hurt and upset but begins to realize that she’s not nearly as heartbroken as she should be. When her ex-fiancé’s half brother, Colt, appears on her porch the next morning to make sure she is okay and apologize for his brother’s behavior she can’t believe the feelings he evokes in her. Six months later when he reappears and admits he’d like to marry her, she’s overwhelmed, intrigued, and turned on beyond words.
Both of these characters were well written and extremely likeable. Chrissie is a straight shooting (seriously straight shooting as she owns a wide range of firearms) socialite who works retail in a sporting goods store. She loves comfortable clothing, prefers little make-up, and doesn’t mess with her hair. She does however have a love of very sexy lingerie something Colt very much appreciates. Although Colt is a high powered executive, he appreciates Chrissie for her simplicity and admires the woman she is. He also finds himself craving the type of quiet life she leads. I love how these two really get to know each other sharing so much of their past lives and how they don’t shy away from the fact that Chrissie was suppose to marry his half brother. I admire the fact that Colt ensures that Chrissie is completely over Russ before they move forward. When they do finally give in to their lustful feelings and thoughts, there is no denying these two are perfect for each other. They have a voracious sexual appetite and have no problems satisfying each other in all ways.
I thoroughly enjoyed Keep It Together; the plot was intriguing, the characters entertaining, and the ending was completely gratifying. This is another fine offering from Lissa Matthews and one I am more than happy to recommend..happy reading!
Did Lissa really write a heroine who doesn't like coffee? What's Lissa drinking? Of course, coffee...with Kaluha :) Lissa Matthews writes stories about real people who aren't always rich in a monetary sense, but rich in life with friends, lovers and good food (and a touch of coffee). Now personally, I don't like coffee *gasp*. No I like watered down versions of coffee like lattes, chai lattes and hot chocolate with an occasional mocha if done right. But I digress, this is a review after all, not coffee personalities 101 of Shari.
We meet Chrissie as she comes to the conclusion that her fiance has just left her at the altar. Oh, she saw signs things weren't going the right way, but everyone kept telling her it was pre-wedding jitters. Ahhh, nope, she really did know Russ was going to dump her, but she hoped it wouldn't be so publicly. Really, he did her a favor because they were just not well suited at all. Him a city slicker attorney ready for a social life that he needed a beauty on his arm for. She...well, she likes to shoot guns, work in a sporting goods store, drink beer and eat fried shrimp. But most of all, she is comfortable with who she is. Now this two timing SOB has put a dent in her defenses. But she is a southern lady even if she doesn't take to all the lacy and frills that come with it.
In walks Colt, the half brother of the dubious former groom. Colt falls instantly into lust or love with Chrissie, but he's not the type of man to make plays for his brother's woman. So he watches, never thinking Russ would run. But heck, he isn't going to let Russ ruin his own chances with the woman of his dreams. He checks up on Chrissie the day after the non-wedding when she makes a comment something like "you are the brother I should have married." Well, that isn't going to be brushed under the door. So he gives her six months to get over Russ and then lays siege to make her his bride.
This books has two weddings, one with a shotgun, sexy lingerie, some of the hottest sex scenes, cookies I wish were real and a whole lot of heart. I don't normally go for love at first sight, but this one worked. The two spent time together outside of the bedroom as well as much time in the bedroom. Phone sex...check! Camo lingerie....check! Shotgun sceens...check!
The book isn't too long and can be read faster than I did (life just disagreed with me on how much time I had to read for the week). Plenty of all around good times, a sense of humor, and twisted my panties so tight I don't know if I will need Colt to help me pick out a new set.
So do yourself a favor and check out this stunningly wonderful book!
Really cute, pure fluff, minimal angst, just a nice, fast, breezy read.
Colt, the hero, was quite refreshing. He fell in love with Chrissie the day he met her. Unfortunately, the day he met her was at her engagement party. To his half brother, Russ. So, good guy that he was, Colt resolved to never say anything to anyone about his feelings, and he fully intended to do so.
Until Russ left Chrissie waiting at the altar. Colt knew this was his chance, and he wasn't letting Chrissie go without a fight.
I loved that Colt knew what he felt was love, and he didn't set out to fuck Chrissie, or to own Chrissie, he set out to make her fall in love with him too, and told her the first time he sees her again, he intends to marry her.
Chrissie, of course, thinks he's joking, but she can't deny it just feels "right" with Colt.
There might have been a bit too much rhapsodizing about how perfect for him Chrissie was on Colt's part, and there were a couple of editing issues, including a repeated passage, and another one that left me totally lost in the story, but otherwise it was pretty well done. Without these issues it would have been a solid 4 star read for me.
If you want a light, fluffy, totally angst free, sexy read, this one was pretty good.
This was a sweet book. There weren't any surprises and it gave me the HEA that I love. It was also a very quick read. I loved it. The characters were easy to fall for. Chrissie was AWESOME! But then again maybe it's because I'm from good ole' Bama:)
A well written contemporary, stand alone, romance with a HEA. The major twist in this story happens at the beginning and the rest of the story moves at a predictable pace until the HEA. No major f*ck-ups but also not a story to give you palpitations. Hot chemistry between emotive characters makes for a NICE read and I did enjoy this story :)
20% into the book and I knew I had made a mistake when buying it (made me wonder what I was thinking when I got it because this is not my kind of read anyway).
Was the story suppose to be cute? Well, it wasn't. And the characters were plain boring (although Chrissie's shotgun was a nice touch).
At 50% I realized that it definitely wasn't working for me and quitted.
