Daughter of a kingpin, I grew up destined to carry on the family line.
My groom was picked. He's a sadist with a knife fetish.
My wedding day was set. The dress is atrocious.
It's just business, my father would say.
I wonder what business has to do with being kidnapped and bound in my wedding dress, minutes away from walking down the aisle.
ASHES is the 3rd book in the IGNITE series. It CAN be read as a standalone, BUT some characters are fleshed out heaps in the prior books, mainly the leads.
New York Times and USA Today bestseller, R.J. Lewis, is the number one bestselling author of the Ignite series, the Loving Lawson series, the Borden series, and numerous other titles. She has been writing all her life and looks forward to sharing her stories with readers who are interested in character growth and romance of the unconventional kind.
In preparation, I re read the first two books in the series, because it’s been like 3 yrs since the last one. At the end of said book, we are led to believe that Remy’s story was about him and Christy. We’re told it would explain his obsessive feelings. So after reading “Remy’s” book, I’m gonna have to disagree with all of that.
First of all. It’s not Christy - whom I actually really liked before. Yeah, she’s in the book, but it’s really not the Remy & Christi book. It’s Olivia. It’s actually ALL about Olivia. Remy does not make an appearance until chapter 12, and even then, he doesn’t actually talk to her until like 5 chapters (if not more) later. Basically, the whole book is told in Olivia’s POV, except for maybe 5 chapters. Only ONE chapter in the telling of Remy’s story is actually in his POV, and that came at the 77% mark. I mean - what? Towards the end, we get a rushed chapter explaining how he came to be the way he is, his link to Sara and even Olivia. But it doesn’t explain WHY he is obsessive, it just shows how far back & deep it goes. It paints him like a very manipulative and controlling person.
I’m glad we get some closure about Remy & Sara. I felt so bad for Jaxon, and I wish the author had given us when he finally found peace, because it still felt like he hadn’t. The fact that Remy cried for Sara, showed an incredible amount of emotion and love for her, even as he said goodbye to her, was a bit of a slap in the face when he never did either with Olivia. I wish we could have gotten to see Remy a little more into the future, showing that kind of affection for his wife, as opposed to having it be just a few comments in passing during a conversation with Sara. I just felt a little disappointed, because I wanted Remy’s book to be more in his POV, more about him, and it felt like it wasn’t.
Taken by a man with power to use later in life to gain more power Olivia finds herself shackled to a life of imprisonment.
Ashes didn’t grab my attention like Ignite or Burn. The opening scenes were interesting for about 2 chapters. Then the story changed directions with Olivia being kidnapped which seemed promising, however the reasons for her kidnapping was disappointing. From this point going forward everything hindered on this impending wedding sealing a contract deal arranged by the man with power. The chapters were slow building with very little excitement. I lost interest so many times. This saddens me because I usually am very eager to dive into a RJ Lewis book. This is unexpected and unusual for me to be dragging through the chapters with mild interest.
Main characters: Olivia/Liv and Reaper(formally known as Remy) in Burn.
Story: Remy’s back and he has his own agenda.
Overall: I liked the big reveal regarding Remy’s character tying in with Olivia’s character. I liked the cameo chapters about Sara and Jaxon.
I didn’t like the push n’ pull type of chemistry between Remy and Olivia. I expected more from RJ considering the first two books were amazing. I too had a psh n’ pull feeling while reading this book. I found few moments where I was rooting for RJ saying yes this is what I expect from her, but then those moments would pass quickly and I would be left muddling through the muck of words. Sadly, I skimmed sections of the chapters eager to find something to grab my attention.
Another right turn in this outing for this series and away from where the first two books in the series followed. I rated it a bit lower than the other two as it almost felt like a character from another series is plopped down into a different story. I get that Remy changed but I didn't really recognize him in this story.
FINALLY this book is out! Was it a good read.. Yes! Could it have been better especially since we waited so long.. again Yes!
It was nice to see Remy get a happily ever after. The heroine, Olivia was overall a good heroine but I never understand how one can have lady brass balls when kidnapped by a scary looking man?
For those of you who may not remember in the previous books Remy is in love with the heroine Sara. Although, I did feel that Remy loved Olivia in this one it would have been nice to read the she meant more to him then Sara. I didn’t get that intense love feeling, could be because we never get “I love yous” or real emotions. Every romance needs an I LOVE YOU!!
Near the end Remy and Sara meet to get “closure” because they both have guilt. Not a fan of the meet up, especially since they both get emotional, maybe if Olivia had been there it would have been better.
Also, at the 20% it turns to Sara and Jaxon’s point of view. I would have been just been happy with it being more Remy and Olivia.
I was so happy to see when RJ Lewis informed us that Ashes would be releasing on November 8th.
Ashes exceeded my expectations. I absolutely devoured Remy's book. It was amazing.
I loved Olivia and I was so happy to see some of the characters from the beginning of this amazing series.
This was just a phenomenal book. Very well written. I was sucked in from the Prologue. I look forward to reading whatever comes next!!
I feel an RJ Lewis book marathon coming on. I'm sort of missing Borden and Emma. :)
Oh and I saw some of the messages where the reviews are suppose to go, basically stating that you wish an author would inform her readers when she isn't going to continue a series. That's a very entitled thing to say. Life happens and it's no one's business unless they choose to make it so.
Burn and Ignite are 2 of my top 10 favorite books. I have read every book that RJ Lewis has written and will continue to read whatever she writes. That being said.... I was a little disappointed in this book. I really wanted to love it. Remy is a great character who I waited over 2 years to find out what happened to him. I usually read a.book in one day and this book took me 5 because I had the hardest time getting into it. There were points of the book that I was like ok this is what I was waiting for only for it to lose me again. I feel that the last part of the book should have been the beginning and maybe I wouldn't have felt so lost in the beginning. I am glad everything is tied up in the end. I do recommend people to read this series.
I'm a bit confused with this story line...I thought she was engaged to a tattoo artist and Remy walks into the place she works to have is ink covered. I guess I will have to wait and see.
Having read the previous books in this series too long ago, I was a little in the dark with the back story. But I just couldn’t bring myself to reread them to get the fuller picture. The prologue was so much the epilogue..just sayin. Almost tempted to reread that! So the beginning was captivating. The middle interesting. The end...well that was a mash up of the entire book with the author contriving issues to make things fit. I didn’t enjoy looking back to why Remi is who he is.
The best part of he book is having the hero pretend he doesn’t speak English. The worst is having the POV of the previous books MC’s try to humanize themselves ...well at least show their guilt over the past and have her contact remi to get closure. Is she still in love with him? It’s just odd and I would have preferred Liv being there.🙃
Arrrrgggghhhh!!! My anticipation for this book was through the roof for the longest time. I had to do a quick skin reread of Ignite and Burn just to refresh myself, which wasn't a hardship because I bloody love both books.
I've always wanted Remys story since meeting him in previous books. I loved Jaxon but my heart always hurt for Remy. I wanted to know all his deepest darkest secrets.
This story wasn't at all what I was expecting but I still loved it. It kept enthralled throughout. Remy is such a deep well of mystery. I just fuxking love the guy.
The pace of the story flowed well, I didn't feel much connection to the previous books just little things here and there. But I liked how this book was a bit different to the others. It had my emotions a bit twisted up in a good way.
I'm so pleased I finally got some closure on Remy, he didn't disappoint. I really hoping we get Logan or Edge, they really intrigued me.
I did enjoy this as I was thankful for what was to be Remy's story and for the closure that it would provide for the overall storyline.I did receive some, but not nearly enough. I craved more detail ....more Remy...from.Remy. Much of he book was Olivia 's saga...I do understand the import of their inter relationship, but wished it was more fleshed out so it was more competitive with his Sarah obsession. The initial story was a lovely intricate ,slow burn and later on when I was really interested in it expanding on the detail of Remy's life ,his psyche and motivating factors ...particularly in relation to his Liv obsession....it fizzled a bit. Instead his saga seemed to become rushed and more cursory...especially at its abrupt ending. In any event,he will remain one of my all time favorite anti-heros and perhaps ...this is partially just me ...lamenting the loss !😮
This was certainly a long awaited little gem! I wish I would have reread Ignite and Burn prior to devouring this book. But, it all came flooding back! Ashes answers some questions left from the previous books. Reaper and Liv have a lot of chemistry! Those two set my kindle on fire! I couldn’t put this book book down! I’m wondering if here will be any more from this series!
I definitely recommend reading Ignite and Burn prior to enjoying this book! If you have not read any of R.J Lewis other books, you have to now! Her characters tend to walk the other side of the streets. They come from dark places, rise to the top and love incredibly deeply! I love all her books!
This series is definitely one of my favorites. I have read them multiple times. I love Remy and so happy he has own book. I was thrilled to see appearances from the first 2 books.
I have to say I was so beyond excited to read this book finally after waiting four years for it.
I loved both Ignite & Burn and now also Ashes , as this is Remy's book. It's start out telling the story of Olivia, So it's a good few chapters before Remy (Reaper ) comes into it. The story and writing flows R.J.Lewis is a talented writer, I have all her books on my kindle, I love her. It was great seeing Jaxon & Sara in here too, I love these two. I'm just glad I've got to finally read it after waiting a very long time. It was great.
I'm very much looking forward to reading more from her and I'm excited what she going to write next.
Little girl not having the best start in life, in given a new life but is being forced to marry a very sick mafia man. Fate or should I say reaper intervenes and the lost little girl has a new path carved out for her. It's a sad tale to be sure, hopeful, humorous and violent. Good characters and dialogue, each one with a very sad backstory in a tale of lost being found. There is a few errors but don't let it put you off as this story is very page turning and is quite endearing. I liked it.
I have waited so long for Remy's and omg it did not dissapoint mind blown what an amazing book. There will be no spoilers from me if your thinking its been too long to read this book you are wrong ! What an amazing author RJ Lewis is her stories flow so well and her books grab at you from the first page just like this book did ......i take my hat of to you what an amazing book up there with one of my top reads for 2018 .....WELL DONE !!!!!!!
I loved this book, well worth the wait. I must confess though it didn’t meet my expectations. At times it was all over the place, timelines were crazy. I didn’t feel the love between Reaper and Olivia like Jacob and Sara. Their story ended as it begun, would have liked more of their relationship. The ending felt rushed and I felt so much more could have been written to enhance the story. Snippets at the end were wonderful. Well worth the read!!!!
Devoured all three books in two days. Could not put them down. I’m anticipating one serious book hangover after this series! Disappointed we didn’t get Remy POV till the end of his book but loved his story and the little twist at the end. Loved Olivia hard, not your usual female lead pushover. Her and Rem were a dream. Hoping Logan and Edge get there own books and we find out there story
I had completely forgotten about the ignite series until I stumbled across ashes. I admit I had to 're-read the first two books again so I could refresh my memory and I'm so glad I did. R.J Lewis knows how to draw you in. Her characters are so real, they are flawed and broken. This book gave closure and answered questions regarding sara, Jaxon and remy. Brilliant series, definitely a must read.
I liked the series no I love the series but something felt off about this not only was it not in Remy's POV but I expected his love and obsessive ways to show for Liv way more then he did with Sara being as Olivia was kinda the reason he took on watching over Sara but at the end after waiting so long for it I loved it hopefully someway r.j. Lewis can keep the series going

👏🏼🙏🏻👏🏼🙏🏻👏🏼🙏🏻👏🏼 So worth the wait!! I can’t believe it’s finally here! 😍Remy has had a special place in my heart and I can not thank you enough for his story. It was everything I didn’t know I needed. I wanted more in his POV!! What to say without giving something away?! Ugh just read it!! I would spoil to much. Lol 😂
This book was one mind game after another from page one. It keeps you trying to figure out the complicated life of Remy. Not until the very last page do you finally figure his story out. But there us redemption and closure. I loved it. Thank you RJ Lewis for an ending to Remy's and Sarah's suffering.
I had been waiting for this book for years and I finally have thr closure I was seeking... It was wonderful seeing old faces again and I will admit I cried near thr end... I'm emotional lol. But the very last page left room for another book so we'll see. Either way it was nice to finally see remy and where he was in life now
3 1/2 stars. After over three years of waiting for this book, I nearly forgot about the other characters. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see more from Reaper. I was expecting an inner dialogue or his perspective. All and all I liked it. If they do have another book after this, I hope it doesn't take as long as this one did.
