Frustrating reading for scientists. Potentially dangerous in the hands of casual psychonauts, seekers, and other impressionable/open-hearted tabula rasas.

"I am a sucker for helping others" (viii) - what does this say about the speaker?

On p. 13, Lilly uses a personal anecdote to extrapolate that LSD definitively limits and constricts and would "contaminate the experience" of a tank session. (I'm not expressing that I agree or disagree, just saying that he didn't use rigorous methodology to arrive at that non-scientific statement.)

"Finding where gravity is, and in what direction, and computing how you can move and not fall takes up about 90% of your neural activity" (18) - this is blatantly incorrect, and I'm not sure that the statement is entirely justifiable by the difference in understanding of the brain between 197x and 2014.

"The experience of different types of Satori, or enlightenment, begin [sic] at level 24" (22) - don't get me started.

"Level 3 [...] fusion with the Universal Mind or Good [...] I experienced 'myself' as melded and intertwined with hundreds of billions of other beings in a thin sheet of consciousness that was distributed around the galaxy. A [italicized:] membrain" (23) - NOPE! And double-nope to the pun! NB: this passage is from one of Lilly's talks, so the pun is an inside joke with himself.

"This is the most turned-on country the world has ever seen. The rest of the world is way behind" (23) - way to be an ass, dude! And not even accurate! So not with-it!

You see where this is going.
