Rudy, a spike buck, gets shot in the leg during his first mating season. He falls in love at first sniff with a young doe named Fawn but is unable to keep up with her teasing game of chase. Fawn argues that he is just not attracted to her, and Rudy makes the situation worse with his awkward attempt to smooth things over.Rudy later defends her against Buck, an older, larger deer, and becomes her hero.In the end, love between two wounded deer triumphs over the "fang and claw" of Darwinism.
