Feeling stuck in an unhappy marriage Nikki finds herself being saved by an MC President. She finds herself in situations that she had only watched on TV. How exciting for her until reality hits her hard. Will she lose her kids, her life, herself? It all becomes too much but he won't let her go or so she thought.
This is a fun and exciting story about a Mom who finds a new way of life whether she wants it or not.
Where to start….First while this book almost ended up in my rarely used DNF pile, I felt compelled to keep reading because it is short and I wanted to see if something would help right the train before the wreck. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
The author admits in her notes, at the end of the book, that she knows nothing about MCs. I really wish she would have researched more, I think it would have made the story better. I do think the author has potential, she just needs Beta Readers, Editors and to do more research before hitting publish.
Nikki is a married mother of two; she is married to a jerk. He treats her bad, belittles her and the smexing is not good. Her car breaks down on the side of the road, a tow truck and biker pulls up to help her. The tow truck is owned by the President of the local MC. He instantly has the hots for her and offers her a job. Her thoughts on first seeing him are “Oh this is like Sons of Anarchy.” There were several mentions of her being obsessed with the show, I found it irritating and it also gave me the impression the author decided to write this book based on her love of SOA and maybe reading other popular MC romance books.
Scooter, pretty much the perfect man, except for the drug selling, gun running and occasional murders. Other than that he is honorable, doesn’t sleep around and doesn’t cheat either.
Claiming Sunshine felt rushed to me, the dialogue stilted, the scenes choppy. There were too many subplots going on and none were fleshed out. I recognized terminology and lines from other popular MC books, I am not alluding to anything I just noticed the coincidence. I “reeled in” my frustration so I could make it through the book, however I almost lost it when he asked her if she wanted it “hard or soft”. There was the random use of “bitch” thrown in, yet the bikers for the most part “talked” in regular English, no slang. In the course of the story there were three romances going on, the book is ONLY 135 pages long. One of the romances is a MC member who falls instantly in love with someone, immediately makes her his old lady, then there is the romance of the main characters Nikki and Scooter and there is a third romance that kind of came out of nowhere. There was really nothing in this book that made me like it, I kept reading it because I love MC romances and was hoping it would get better, but it didn’t and the further in the more sub plots appeared.
If you like MC Romances, give it a try, don’t just take my word. Maybe you will like it more than I did.
I am immensely glad I borrowed the book via Amazon Prime. Now call me a glutton for punishment, but I have heard that there will be a second book and it will be longer. I will read it because I want to see if the author improves any.
Claiming Sunshine is a wonderful debut novel for author S.E. Leonard. The book is self-edited and self-published but she did an amazing job for her first book.
The story line was interesting and different from most of you MC books. This was about a middle-aged woman who is a wife and a mother.
Nikki is really easy to relate to, she is a wife who has been let down by the promises of her husband. She finds herself frustrated in with her life and just wondering where things went so wrong. All she wants to do is be a good mother to her girls and make life comfortable for them.
The actions of selfish husband Sam land her in a situation that the local MC helps her out in. They find her out of gas on the side of the road and instantly their lives are entwined. There seems to be an instant connection between her and MC President Scooter. An interesting turn of events bring her closer to Scooter and then the excitement begins.
This debut novel introduces secondary characters Drifter/Jewel and Joe/Meagan; hopefully they will be getting their own stories next. The dynamic between Drifter and Jewel is an interesting one to say the least and Joe is a member of the club who is involved with Meagan, Scooter's daughter (his MC Pres) I can't wait to see their stories unfold.
While there was some editing issues and a few formatting things that could make the book easier to read; I thought it was a great effort for a self-edited/published book.
I gave this one 3.75 stars...I really liked the description and it started off good, but things got a little muddled after a while. The author tried to write a cool story of many women's fantasies...meeting that biker you dream about after watching SOA and falling in love with the "fantasy" of a sexy biker. However, our heroine Nikki finds herself in way over her head and learns the hard way that things aren't always as pretty as what you see on t.v. My thoughts are that the author did a pretty good job on her debut novel, but at times it got confusing when she would jump from character to character and then change a scene in the next paragraph without warning...plus there was a lot going on all at once. I also didn't know this would end on a cliffhanger...I don't recall reading that anywhere, so that came as a bit of a shock since I hate having to wait for another book to complete a story without warning.
An ok, semi-violent, at times sexy read. Short and engaging.
*** 3.75 *** "be careful what you fantasize" stars
I loved this book from this first time author.. Read this is one sitting... I loved all the character's. They story line was great. Loved how the lives unfolded. I loved the H-h. But, I connected more with the secondary characters Drifter and Jewel more then the Scooter and Sunshine. But after allot of thought that is just my preference and nothing to do with the writing. I am anxiously awaiting her second book of the series.
Great debut novel really enjoyed it it's what every SOA and biker book junkie loves bored housewife fullfills her biker fantasies . MC books will love it it's got a good balance of everything yes it's not perfect what is ? I personally can't wait for book 2
Read this yesterday and I'm not exactly raving about it. My real rating would be a 2.5. Warning to the ones that having a hair trigger on cheating, don't read the book. That is not one of my triggers and I think the plot was based on something that could have really been fleshed out to make a really good book. This is a first time author and the author's notes at the end of the book says she really doesn't know anything about MC's other than riding by an MC and just looking at it. Well, that's apparent in the book. Everything and the kitchen sink was thrown it. Three different couples, an attempt to write a little lite BDSM, etc... The writing is so very basic and Scooter, the H and MC Prez, speaks like a perfect sophisticated gentleman one minute and then uses some profanity other places. I just didn't feel real passion as a reader. This whole book just felt off to me. The sad thing is that I believe the author could have done a fantastic job if she had put more effort into it to make it real. It just didn't seem real to me at all. It ends in a mild cliffy but I don't think I'll be going after the next book. Another thing, there were noticeable editing/words out of context issues. Not the worse that I have seen but definitely noticeable and distracting. I think the author has potential but needs a lot of polish.
This is a great start to a new series. I read all 3 books that are out in this series before writing the reviews so I could get a feel for the whole series. WOW what a great series. This book has all the elements you could want in a great MC book. If you don't like drama, violence, lots of action, cheating and heartbreak you might not like this series but if you do you will love these books. You won't see the surprises coning. This series will take you on a emotional roller coaster ride. There were times I wanted to throw my reader but I love books that can make me connect so strongly with the characters I feel such strong emotions. That's a sign of a great book. rated great
Recomendo!
I found this read to be very sloppy and needed a lot of work. At $3.70 (+ extra charges that are added with using credit card) definitely not worth the price.
