This was a really quick read. I think I finished it in like an hour or so? It was an interesting enough premise, though I do feel a little bit misled by the summary, simply because I was hoping that the dragon kidnapping Elanor would play more of a part in the story...instead it comes into play as a last-act redemption arc for Viggo. And he's a character that I just. Couldn't really get into. Like, what was his motivation for leaving his family and hating them so much? That they were members of the court? That he drank and partied a lot?? The motivations just... didn't make enough sense to justify his hatred for them. The fact that he leaves them entirely alone and hates them so much that he refuses to go with his "one true love" and "mate" just because his family will be there is strange. Add that to the point that he literally talks so highly of his parents' love story and how they're great only to do a complete 180 and despise them is odd.
Even worse - WHAT IS UP WITH THE DRAGON SHIFTERS!! It's mentioned that his dad is a dragon, but then why did he never come find his son who was CLEARLY tormenting an entire town for years and years?? Why is he a dragon and his brother isn't? Why don't we hear more about the dragon shifters in general? That is a really cool concept and it wasn't even explored at all. And the random dragon birthmark that shows up on Eleanor in the last few pages of the book....yeah, no, why didn't we hear more about that? That's kinda huge?
AND YET MORE: the family conflict between Eleanor and her parents is so stupid. It did not get nearly enough time to be explored, came out of nowhere, and didn't really add much except for the fact that now Eleanor and Viggo know they can only rely on each other and not their families. Which isn't healthy, dude. Especially not if they don't even plan on hanging out with other people? Like they're mad isolated and they're planning on raising kids together? Yeah, no. Bad plan all around. AND ALSO!!! ELEANOR GOES AWAY WITH A DRAGON AND THEN NO ONE EVEN QUESTIONS IT? NO ONE IS EVEN WORRIED THAT SHE MIGHT GET SNATCHED UP AGAIN? NO ONE MENTIONS IT??

Wanted a bit of light reading, something to keep me off the clock app if you will.
It started with the fmc being treated like absolute crap by her grandmother and given they are not very well off and given the humble life and reserved personality she endured.
Like most women when faced with far more nonsense than is reasonable she runs away the be free or something and have her comedic relief moment.
HOWEVER this woman bends over backwards! To “earn her keep” and this selfish,arrogant, pompous, entitled thing is so absorbed in his silver spoon great escape that he hurts her because he was so done with being catered to.
This book started off fine but this mean Mmc trope is so infuriating. She’s suffering and you are so engrossed in you self imposed exile that he can’t facilitate his mate?!
2 stars and only because of the funny moments.

I thought the main characters were sweet but the story was a little hard to follow fully. I was able to clock the main plot twist pretty early on and was not surprised when I turned out to be correct.

There wasn’t any good spice only one real scene and then it’s just mentioned in passing.
I expected more groveling, but there really wasn’t any. The FMC was willing to accept the MMCs apology right away. It wasn’t even really a full apology. He just bought her a house??? In the end I’m left feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

I gave it two stars just because I like the main characters.

After this book I feel sorry for myself for wasting my time.
So yeah, another 18 year old runs away to the dragon to be eaten or “eaten” but we didn’t even get any of it. The dragon, of course, was her mate blah blah blah every romantasy book ever, but it’s not that I am frustrated with.
It’s the fact that we didn’t get any bonding or insight in their true personalities. We just got hint of it.
For example: in the middle of the book he remembers to ask her all about her (because it didn’t occur to him that he should know all about his “love of his life”) and guess what? SHE TOLD HIM EVERYTHING. That was what this woman wrote. She didn’t expand. So yes, we should guess what, on the crumbs she gave us at the start of the book.
On the other hand every time the girl asks him about him and his family he gets tantrums like my two year old son and goes to fly for days leaving her hungry and cold. Very mature mister dragon.
AND THEY DECIDE TO MARRY. They love and know each other the best???????
After that THE PLOT OMG. We learn that she is a lost princess and her grandmother isn’t her family, and she wants to meet her mommy but her dragon is mad because his family sucks and he thinks all families suck, so she goes alone.
She gets roasted by her real parents so she started to share her dragons opinion. And he saves her by using his own family which he hates (we find out the reason is because they are not moral) ????

Loved the first 2. This one had potential but the mates and bond thing was far less romantic and meaningful in this one. I do love them still but I’d love some more variation(I.e not always a princess?). Also although they don’t need to be read in chronological order, I would have missed out on so much context if I hadn’t read the previous ones, so the details either need to be consistent or they need to be recommended to read in order regardless of the stories being separate.
One other thought on this one, I was disappointed by the bond. It seemed way less possessive than the previous books, and not in a way I personally loved. By the end of the book I was annoyed with Viggo and not endeared to him one bit. His motivations and feelings were really intense for like no reason and he was not likable to me at all. And where was his dragon this whole time? All the others have inner dialogue and struggle with a dragon who would drive them to insanity if they ever let their mate go for weeks like he did. He just said he would feel empty and lonely which is pretty livable honestly. Also wasn’t a fan of his mild emotional abuse. Red flags for days. Manipulative, constantly being upset about her past and then always making her feel insecure. No thanks. Anyway, it was fine and I finished it but it left me more confused than satisfied.

⭐ only because GR won't let me give it zero
If you're hoping for a spicy, cozy, fairytale-shaped romance like the last two, this one's unfortunately not it. Not a reread, not even a rec.
This was almost a DNF for me, and I rarely DNF a book. We're still in the world of dragon shifters and fated mates, but Birthright is where the formula starts to fall apart. The characters? Barely developed. The worldbuilding? Nonexistent. The plot? Missing. The conflict makes absolutely no sense and feels like it was thrown in last minute just to keep things movind. And the pacing? Rushed to the point where emotional beats don't land at all.
The one "twist" is dragon kidnapping, seemingly just so the MMC can redeem himself. It doesn't feel earned, and instead of a satisfying redemption arc, it comes across like damage control. And then there's the whole Cinderella nod. WHYYYY? Just because Black Heart worked as a Beauty and the Beast retelling doesn't mean every book in the series needs to mirror a fairytale. That decision just felt forced and unnecessary.
You can skip this one entirely and you won't miss a thing in the series continuity. Trust me.

A great Novella for fairy tale lovers looking for an easy fantasy read, light on the spice. I listened to Birthright on Audible in under four hours while cleaning my house and it was easy to follow along and enjoy.
The inspiration from classic fairy tales was undeniable, complete with evil step-mother "grandmama", spoiled princes and a written "happily ever after" at the end. (Not a spoiler - Romance genre ends happily, romantic tragedy does not).
The main characters in contrast have a rather realistic dichotomy I found fascinating. The FMC is both bold and insecure. She challenges the heavy sexism she's culturally surrounded by but also falls victim to having expectation of traditional gender roles. The MMC both desperately wanted a mate but also has been so independent he struggles with transitioning into a relationship dynamic.
Overall this was very enjoyable. I read a few reviews that stated they were disappointed, but I think those readers went in with wrong expectations for what this novella is. It was more fairy tale themed and less spicy then initially anticipated picking it up.

Wonderful
I read all 3 books in this series in just a few days, starting with the second book, then the first, then the third. Reading them out of order didn't dilute any of the stories since they absolutely stand alone but also wrap into the same world which is a world I adore. I can't wait for more books! The second book was probably my favorite, but I adored each of these. Wonderful writing, sweet and alluring, just enough spice and dangerous intrigue, everything you could want in a sweet dragon shifter romance.

Cinderella-esque
I didn’t look to see what this book was about—all I knew was that it was the next book in a series I have enjoyed reading. It does have a Cinderella kind of vibe to it, but it’s not as simple as that because it also has a Vikings feel as well. I like how Kane explores certain topics, like family, and doesn’t make everything nice and neat. It’s sometimes ugly and oftentimes complex, and I feel like she does a wonderful job portraying those aspects of family life.

This was a rather odd dragon shifter romance than had a suprising amount of political+purity culture commentary (very little but it still kind of shocked me lmao). Viggo was a raging red flag with the emotional maturity of one of his carcasses and Eleanor... oh girly you can do better than dying if you can't become a wife 💀. Despite the absolute headcase this book was it had some rare wins... like the quote above.

Quite a good book
Towards the end I did not think things would end with this book, but was happy when they did.
It was a pretty good read and short enough that I could finish it in less than a day.
It was also good to see that in the end it was Eleanor that stood up for herself. And while she did get whisked away by her dragon lover/fiance, it wasn't a damsel in distress moment, it felt more empowering than just being saved.
Not a bad book.

there was this movie about a princess that was kidnapped by a dragon shifter and while living with him she fell in love, miscommunication trope happened and she went back to her family only to realise she can’t live without him and called the dragon to come take her away. this book was suspiciously close to the movie’s plot and honestly im not even complaining. that movie is GOATED, and ugh this book brought so much nostalgia. loved every second of it. so simple yet so entertaining 🙏

Binge worthy!
All 3 of these books I devoured in 2 days. They were great. I enjoyed the inclusion of the other stories' characters but that it was only a minor editon to each story. The way the brides were found varied so much each such a unique difference with the lore intact. Absolutely 💯 love! Can't wait for the next book!

Wonderful series
Ive read the first two books and now this one. I love each of them. I would recommend reading the first one before the others as it provides context but you can read them out of order. There's spice but not overwhelmingly so. I love the way the author grows the characters thru their troubles and to each other. Highly recommend.

Ah yes, my favourite trope, 'monster boyfriend incapable of keeping a house clean and now he is very ashamed of it'. I know all the reviews say the plot twist was predictable but I didn't see it coming I won't lie........ I enjoyed this as a fun, quick read, even if Viggo was a douche & could've been nicer and Eleanor needed to grow a spine.

This series was perfect for vacation reading! I binged all three sitting by the pool. Each is different but links to the last well. Gave me my dragon fix without being long and drawn out. Really helped me get over my reading slump!

This book was quite interesting. I enjoyed the setting and the plot line. I felt like it could have had a bit more of a lead up and I would have liked to see the fall out at the end of the book but it was still enjoyable.

First book I've read by this author, and I couldn't put it down. Exceptional walk through a fantasy world.
The fiesty FMC and a grumpy loner dragon are a perfect pair. It was a fun read, and I only wish the MMC had roasted Jerome.

A very quick read, that require no thinking, that can be considered enjoyable enough.
If you ignore; the very hasty storyline, the complete lack of context and nothing actually driving the story forward.
I'll admit I had to work really hard to ignore these things at times.

I don't know that I've ever hated a MMC like I hate Viggo. He's aggressive and childish to the point that I feel like Eleanor is going to hate him in a years time from the end and be miserable.

Felt very rushed but overall a sweet little story. There was so much opportunity for things to be expanded upon and not glazed over, but I did still enjoy it!
