This book calls to mind 'Goodnight, Beautiful' by Dorothy Koomson, minus the amazing writing, well developed characters and interesting plot.

And why?

Because, apart some slight similarity in themes, the male leads of these two books are two freaking spineless cowards.

You do not know how much I hate them both.

These two use and abuse the very women who were always there for them, loving and supporting them, damaging them almost to the point of no repair, due to their own selfishness and because they let themselves be manipulated by sluts who have nothing better to do than screwing other people's lives.

And they just walk away like nothing world-changing happened.

I really don't know who is the worst. But let's talk about dear Joseph, the 'hero' of this particular book.

There is this girl (the heroine), whose name I don't remember, even though I just finished this book, who lives in the same neighbourhood he does.

Her parents are religious zealots and very strict, so he feels like he has to look after her. They sorta, kinda become maybe friends.

She is clearly socially awkward and more than a little stupid, since she is a virgin who doesn't even have an inkling of what to expect from sex. She also has an obviously huge crush on him, and as he is due to leave to the Marines the next day, she decides to take advantage of the fact her parents aren't home to make him dinner and do something about her feelings.

Shit was bound to get real from this point on.

Joseph oh-so not can resist her allure and jumps her bones, leaving the very next morning without even a "Howdy, partner!"

First of all, these two having sex just made me sick.

The poor girl didn't know anything at all. Not what to do, but most of all, not what to expect. She wasn't prepared at all for that and it felt to me that Joseph was having sex with a child. That's just plain wrong and disgusting.

But what really aggravated me was that he knew how clueless she was, jumped her anyway, without using protection and the next morning he just beats it and that's it.

I'm not even going to talk about the emotional impact one suffers after such an experience. I'll just jump to the part where he doesn't bother to find it whether she was physically fine and pregnant or not.

The pregnant part, especially when you know the girl's parents are fanatics obsessed with religion and are likely to kick her out of the damn house for the perceived sin, seems more than a bit important to me. But not to Joseph.

He just walks away. And surprise, surprise. She's knocked-up. And her parents treat her like a harlot and kick her out. So, basically she's double, no, triple screwed.

Some time passes and OMG, Joseph actually loves the girl he used and left behind. He goes to her former house and her parents tell him she's studying in another state, so he thinks she doesn't love him and chose to leave him, therefore he stops looking for her.

Geez, honey, your love is so deep and true!

Meanwhile, she's busy baking his daughter, writing desperate love letters for him to come back and generally mopping and acting all forlorn and fatalistic.

And when the kid is born, she names her Josephina, after her father.

She believes Joseph doesn't give two shits about them, but she still loves him and keeps acting like a lovesick kicked puppy, while he is out getting engaged with some bitch.

Joseph finds out he has a daughter and gets pissed with she-whose-name-shall-not-be-named-cause-I-can't-remember, but to hell with everything, he wants a family and wants them near him.

What the hell kind of train wreck? I won't even lose more time with this. I've done that enough already.

The story, the characters and the writing suck. Read at your own peril.

I started this book when I got up this morning and could NOT put it down till the end!!

Kasey has been in love with her neighbor Joseph forever. The night before he is to leave for bootcamp she invites him over for dinner while her parents away knowing they would not approve. Before Joseph ends up leaving that night they make a decision that will change their lives forever. Kasey's mother notices changes in her behavior and once she brings the situation to light they send her away to live with her aunt because they say no sinner shall live in their home. My heart breaks for Kasey that she has to go thru everything alone.

Kasey has tried several times to write Joseph a letter bc she has no other way of contacting him. After the last letter she sent comes back unread she realizes she will never see him again.

Joseph has always had a crush on Kasey. After the night they shared together he can't stop thinking about her. When he does finally return home and goes to Kasey's house, her parents tell him she has moved on and left for college. He realizes he will never see her again and decides he has no choice but to move on until one day fate decides to bring them back to each other. How will the two of them handle seeing each other after all of these years? Will Joseph be able to handle the secret Kasey tells him? Will they finally get their HEA?

I don't want to give away any spoilers so all I can say is go one click this book now!!! I loved the chemistry between Kasey and Joseph. That ending was PERFECT!! I would def recommend this book to everyone :)

Kasey grew up next to Joseph for most of her life. She had feelings for him for a long time, and the day before he left for the marines, she invited him over. She cooked dinner and one thing led to another, and it got interesting. He had to leave that next day, but when he returned three months later, she was gone. Five years later he somehow ran into her and found out that he was a father.

The setting of “With Me” takes place a few years ago. This is a very recent story, because the IPad mini is out along with X-Box. The majority of the story actually takes place in Madison, WI. The rest of it is in San Diego, California. It is summer time in the beginning, and leads into winter.

The main characters are Kasey, Joseph and Josephina. Kasey is the mother of Josephina; she is an amazing mother and deeply in love with Joseph. He is in the Marines and stationed in California. When he first saw Kasey again he was actually engaged. He ends up breaking off the engagement for his daughter, Josephina.

A great theme for this story is destiny. They were meant to not see each other for 5 years. There was a reason he never got the letters she sent. I feel like it was meant to happen that he was in Madison at the farmers market she worked at. He was meant to find his long lost love, and his daughter.

I absolutely recommend this book. I was addicted to reading it, and couldn’t put it down. I would recommend any high school girls, over the age of 16, to read this book. They must be mature because there is some sexual content, but it is worth the read.

I received an advance read copy of With Me and read it over the course of two days. It is a well thought-out contemporary romance that incorporates real-life choices, responsibilities, and the consequences of our actions. Ms. Duran has chosen to tell the story from the viewpoint of the two main characters and explores their feelings and confusion with an insight that often seems to be missing in our world of instant gratification. The main characters are very relatable and Ms. Duran's descriptions of their emotions are, at times, realistic enough to bring tears to the eyes of the reader while at the same time leaving them with the desire to reach into the text and shake the main characters until they quit listening to the words they are hearing long enough to understand what is not being said. The emotional involvement is what kept me drawing me back and the reason for the five-star rating.

Lovely LOVE STORY finished in one sitting!

Well this story drew me in from the synopsis.

Kasey falls for the boy next door, Joseph.
Joseph has to leave for boot camp and leaves Kasey behind.....also not knowing he left something else after their night of passion......

Kasey finds out she's pregnant....forced to raise her daughter all alone... I know you're thinking what a butthead Joseph was!
Well he never knew!

This story shows the struggles they go through with raising their little girl when they both have separate lives in different states....and obligations to other people...

I really enjoyed the way the characters were written.
They both had a very realistic vibe to them.
Especially Kasey. She was very insecure and very careful with who she trusted.

This book was too good to put down. I kept wanting more an more. I finished this in one sitting...that alone definitely deserves 5 STARS!

What a fantastically lighthearted read. I have throughly enjoyed this story, its sweet, fun and heartwarming. You are introduced to Kasey and Joseph, Kasey is a fun woman but serious at times. Joseph is a hard working bloke who is kind of "under the thumb" a little. There is some angst through the story in a will she won't she kind of way. This is the second book from Gabbie and i am pleased that Gabbie hasn't focused on the unspoken memories series and broke away to write something completely different. I will definitely be recommending this book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this love story of Kasey and Joseph. Kasey has a one night stand with consequences. Several interference's by outside forces seemed to provide further stumbling blocks for Kasey. But through all her challenges, she remained loving, kind and forgiving to others. Then synchronicity stepped in to work behind the scenes. Reading about this young couple as they tackled and worked through several stumbling blocks was very interesting and entertaining. This is a feel good story with real life struggles. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.

Gabbie has done another great job with her stories. She bring her characters to life with some real life issues.

Kasey has always been love with Joseph. She wanted to do something special before he leaves for boot camp. When Kasey try’s to make contact with Joseph and all her attempts are return.

Kasey is seeing everyone turning their back on her, the love of her life and her family.

What will Joseph do when he learns why Kasey was trying to get ahold of him? Will Kasey forgive Joseph? Will we see that love trumpets all

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE BOOK This is a must read. This was a great story about young love reuniting after years of being apart and what they would do for family.

This work is beyond words. This book hits closer to real life than most. The story if Kasey and Joseph is not only breathtaking but also eye opening. You really feel the emotions between them. It will make you want to laugh and cry. It will grab your attention from the very beginning and won't let go. I had a very hard time putting this book down, but real life does call. :)

I really enjoyed this book! The author did an excellent job with the characters Joseph and Kasey. I love the way little Josephine was portrayed in this story. She is just the cutest little girl. Kasey's wreck was very heartbreaking, but loved the way Joseph stepped up to the plate. You will really enjoy reading this book! I give it 5 stars. Would give it 10 stars if I could!

~~~~~~~~~~Kim's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
A beautiful love story. Kasey and Joseph are neighbors and as teens they share a night of passion before Joseph leaves to army boot camp. Four years later having not seen each other since that night the pair meet again, but add a little surprise into the mix -Kasey now has a child! Can the two rekindle their romance? Or does Joseph have something that will put a dampener on their passion? And why haven't they seen each other in all this time? Read to find out!!
I loved the story and really enjoyed getting to know the characters, I did feel the story lacked a bit of excitement at times and would have liked to have seen more of Elizabeth. The plot was quite predictable for me, I wasn't surprised at any revelations that happened, but the author did manage to draw me into the characters emotions.
Still a great romantic story and a lovely HAE, four stars.
~~~~~~~~~~Lillian's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~

A great love story that is tested at each turn. Kasey is in love with the boy next door. But her parents are very religious and don't approve of Joseph or his parents. But Joseph is about to leave for boot camp and Kasey knows that this is her only chance to show him how much she cares. This one night changes the course of Kasey life forever. She is thrown out of her parents house and tries to get hold of Joseph but never gets an answer. So she moves on and accepts nothing from anyone. One day Joseph sees a little girl and gets chatting to her then he sees her mother and it is Kasey. She has been so hurt by him can she let him back into her & her daughter's life. Things aren't so easy as Joseph is about to be married and he lives in another state. But Joseph can't let go when there is an accident he is there for them but is scared that Kasey has been lying to him. He is an idiot as he almost throws away the best thing that ever happened to him. Can Kasey look pass all the hurt and see the man that he is and what a great father he is to her daughter. Do you get a second chance at being with the person that you have loved forever. Can they be a family together? The story had a nice easy flow and the characters were honest good people. I am glad to see that their daughter played a big part in the story. A story for all ages. Great work Gabbie loved it. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
The love story of Kasey and Joseph started when they were young just as friends. The night before Joseph ships off for boot camp Kasey has a special night planned. That night he takes her Virginity. Almost five years ha asked since they have seen each other. When Joseph runs into Kasey she has a surprise that he doesn't know about until he sees her again. She finally tells him she had gotten pregnant that night with her little girl Josephina. Joseph has been pressured by Elizabeth a girl he has been dating. When he finds out about Josephina his world is turned upside down. He wants so much to be with Kasey and Josephina. He finally comes to his senses one night about the truth about Elizabeth. But Kasey fills like she has been chosen as a replacement. Will these two finally get their acts together and see what they have been missing or will they let it slip through their fingers? This was a great story about young love reuniting after years of being apart and creating a family and greatly written to bring you through their emotions as you read.
4.5 Heartwarming Stars!
What an adorable story! I completely fell in love with Kasey and Joseph. They were both incredible characters, and despite the mistakes both have made in he past (especially Joseph) you cannot help but open your hearts to them. Kasey always loved Joseph, but they never did end up together. She silently watched as he dated other girls, and never voiced her feelings for him, thinking that he did not feel the same way towards her. The night before he leaves for bootcamp, everything changes. The two make a decision that will forever change their lives. Shortly after, Kasey's parents shun her and send her away to live with her aunt. She tried writing to Joseph a few times, but never got a response. Eventually giving up hope that he would come back for her, she continued on with her life as best as she could. Every day was a struggle, but she pushed through. For herself, and for her daughter. What she didn't know was that he actually had returned for her… right after boot camp. But with her parents saying she had went away for school, he thought she had moved on with her life… so he attempted to do the same. Fast forward a few years later, and they are thrown back into each others life. Joseph is now engaged to be married, but one look at Kasey and he realizes those old feelings had never died. Will he continue down the current path his life is taking, and spend the rest of his life with the wrong woman, or will fate allow these two to have a second chance? What will happen once Joseph finds out the secret Kasey has been holding onto for all these years?
This book gripped me from the beginning, and I knew I was not going to want to put it down (much to my dismay, I was forced to because real life and work got in the way. Boooooo). This wasn't your hardcore erotica, nor was it your go through 10 boxes of tissues tearjerker. It was sweet. It was heartwarming. And it showed you that fate has a funny way of knocking on your door when you least expect it. I have been reading a lot of twisted and deeply intense books lately, and this was a nice change of pace from that! While I absolutely LOVE getting lost in a world of fiction, this story felt more real. You could relate to the characters and their struggles which gave you an opportunity to really connect with them on a whole other level. I would highly recumbent "With Me" to everyone. This book is a standalone. No cliff hangers. No biting your nails waiting months for the next book to come out. This is the second book I have read by Gabbie, and she definitely does not disappoint as an author. I look forward to many more reads by her!
I have been a fan of Gabbie for a very long time and was super excited when I got the oppurtunity to read another story by her. This was a definete 4-5 star read for me! This story had everything you would want in a book--love, hate, angst, sadness, and many more! I cried a few times in this story because it will touch your heart in places you knew existed but didn't realize a book could touch.
Kasey is the main female character in this book and my heart hurt for her many times. She fell in love with the boy next-door Joseph and on the night Joseph is to leave for the marines they make a descision to take there relationship further but will that change there lives forever. Kasey has to deal with the consequences of her actions and she is sent away to live with her Aunt because her parents can't have a sinner in there home. She doesn't think she will ever see Joseph again because she has sent many letters and they have been returned. She has to move on with her life and pick up the broken pieces of her heart and her new responsibilites with out Joseph.
Joseph is the boy next door and has had a crush on Kasey for a long time but has never pushed for anything more than friendship because of her very strict parents. But one night he just can't hold back and finally crashes into his desire for Kasey but will he pay a price for this one night? Will she be there for him when he gets home in 2 years? After the Marines he comes home to find that Kasey has moved on with her life in college, so he thinks, because why would her parents lie to him.
So he has to move on with his life and pick up his broken pieces of his heart.
Will fate intervine and bring these two together again, will Kasey's secret destroy Joseph's new life or can he mold them together and still be happy? Or will they bother realize they have to move on together with there lives and leave behind the past and there new lives once and for all and start a future together?
Well you need to pick up this book its truely amazing and you won't be disappointed!! Gabbie is an amazing author and you should pick up her other book as well unspoken memories cause it was amazing as well!!!
I enjoyed reading With Me; it was a nice, quick read with just a touch of drama, a cute little girl and a big misunderstanding. Kasey’s was in love with her next door neighbor Joseph and on the night before he is about to leave for the military, she cooks him dinner which leads to more than just dinner. Joseph knew that leaving Kasey after their night was going to be hard so he vowed to return to Kasey as soon as he could after training to get her. Years later when Joseph returns to see Kasey, she is no longer their and is told by her parents that she has left out of state to attend college so Joseph leaves heartbroken but thinks it was for the better. Meanwhile, Kasey has been dealing with her own things all those years but she has never once forgotten the boy who stole her heart, especially since she has to look into his eyes and see his face every time she looks at their daughter Josephina. Somehow fate has intervened and five years after their night while Joseph is visiting his friend, a little girl runs in to him at a flea market only to belong to Kasey. To say Joseph was shocked was an understatement but he has to know if this little girl is his and if so why Kasey never told him about her. Kasey can’t believe that after all this time Joseph is here and once everything is out in the open, she knows things will only get complicated from here, because not only is Joseph not going anywhere, he’s also getting married to someone else. Joseph knows he can’t stay away Josephina or Kasey but he has to make a choice. Go back to the life he started with his fiancé or try to build a family with the one who got away?
I really enjoy this author but this story was quite predictable, there wasn't much in the way of extraneous conflict. the conflict in this story was quite realistic for a sped up time line such as this. I do feel that there could have been a bit more interaction with Elizabeth, something to point to any reason he was with her at all, because throughout the entire book she is only portrayed as selfish and bitchy. I would have preferred some character depth but besides that the story was touching and enjoyable.
**JOSIE'S REVIEW**
*4.5 Stars*
I am a military mom so anything with military in it I jump in and let me say I loved this book. Gabbie Duran did such an amazing job and I was stuck from the prologue.
Kasey Wilson is the good girl next door. Her family is very religious but she has had a major crush on Joseph Mitchell (the boy next door) forever. The night before he leaves for boot camp Kasey wants to say goodbye to Joseph. She has the perfect opportunity since her parents are away on a retreat. Let’s just say for a religious girl she surprised me. Joseph never expressed his true feelings for Kasey because he thought she was too innocent and good for him but that one night changed everything for the both of them.
“I’ve waited so long to be able to that. I better leave now, Kasey, before I end up doing something I’m going to regret.”
“Please don’t leave. Not now.”
“Are you sure? Just let go, Kasey. It will feel good. I promise.”
Things go wrong for the two. Joseph walks away without a goodbye, and Kasey’s mother starts to notice a change in her. She sends Kasey to her aunt’s home and no longer wants anything to do with her. When I was reading that part, I wondered what kind of parents would do that to their child?! I cried for Kasey, her innocence and the loneliness she felt being exiled by her family. Kasey tried to reach out to Joseph to let him know where she was at but to no avail. He never showed up to get her. Joseph, I was so angry with him! He did go back for Kasey after boot camp but was told she was gone and not to look for her.
5 years later, Kasey and Joseph’s paths cross and when the truth comes out, things will change for the pair. Joseph is still in the Marines and is visiting his friend Mark. You will love Mark and his wife Ashley. They offer him the support he needs and also are not afraid to tell him the truth. Joseph is engaged to Elizabeth (a slurry mole troll) that not only his best friend and his wife hate but you will too (YEP I DID).
“You still with that girl you hooked up with a couple of years ago in Vegas?”
“Her name is Elizabeth. I finally popped the question to Elizabeth and we’re getting married.”
“Are you sure she’s the one dude? Like the one you can’t live without?”
“I silently answer to myself; no she isn’t the one I couldn’t live without. That girl I left behind long ago and I’ve haven’t seen her since.”
SO when their paths cross again a secret comes out that changes the course of this couple, and now they will have to make decision.
“I’m surprised to see you as well. I never thought I would see you again.”
“I didn’t think I’d ever see you again either.”
“Is there something you need to tell me, Kasey?”
Ok now back to the slurry troll mole beotch Elizabeth...she brings a new meaning to the word STUCK-UP BIMBO. She is awful, cruel, vindictive and selfish. I was so upset that Joseph let things happen and let her control the relationship. I swear to God when you read the things that come out of her mouth, you are going to want to b*tch slap her!!!
“Your brother is your family and Mark is mine, so I feel he should be my best man.”
“My brother is going to be your family soon so I don’t see why he can’t be your best man. He can be one of your groomsmen, but I’m not adding his pregnant wife. She’d be too fat by the wedding and I don’t want fat people in my wedding.”
“Look Elizabeth, I’m tired and I really don’t want to argue with you tonight.”
Joseph will make you swoon, and he knows that Kasey is the one. It is just hard for him to let Elizabeth down. When Kasey finds out about Elizabeth she is willing to walk away but Joseph will not let another 5 years go without Kasey in his life.
“I don’t care what she thinks, Kasey. I brought you here because I can’t stand the thought of knowing that you’re so far away.”
“How can you say you don’t care what she thinks? Don’t you love her enough to car about her feelings?”
“I don’t love her anymore.”
Elizabeth will try so hard to keep a relationship that never was there. It is funny but I blame Joseph for not putting his foot down.
“Who the hell is she? And, what the f**k are you both doing naked? Did you just f**k her?”
“Don’t you even try to make me believe that sh*t anymore, Elizabeth I don’t love you anymore. To tell you the truth my heart belonged to someone else.”
Kasey is very insecure, naïve, stubborn and does not believe that she is Joseph’s first and only choice. As I mentioned being throw away by your own parents and in 5 years no one has searched you out, you will believe you are not worthy as well.
“I’m just confused about what to think. Everything is only happening because you’re barely out of relationship with Elizabeth. I can’t help but continues to believe I’m simply a replacement to her.”
“It wasn’t until you came back into my life, that I opened my eyes to the real person she was. I couldn’t be with someone who didn’t want a family with me. Kasey you saved me from a life a misery.”
This is a short, emotional and passionate read that will keep you interested from start to finish. Kasey and Joseph will have to trust and fight to be together. Did time away from each other only make the road ahead to a life filled without love? Can these two manage to come together even though they live far apart? Will Elizabeth walk away quietly? I have some much highlighted but if I added it will be a serious spoiler alert, so you should click on the link and read it. You will fall in love with Kasey and Joseph.
This was such an odd book. It started out as Christian lit, moved to cheating with mild erotica, and then turmoil, before finally an HEA. The first part of the book did not fit the last part. There were things I liked, the overall premise, Joseph's devotion to his daughter, that initially Kasey seemed like a strong and logical character, the supporting characters... But it just didn't flow or feel cohesive.
The past was told rather than shown so I couldn’t feel their connection. It was also your standard separation secret child romance with interfering OW so it didn’t hold my interest.
This book is definitely not what I was expecting. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, but boy did I like it.
Kasey Wilson is the girl next door. Her family is religious and she has a huge crush on Joseph Mitchell, the typical boy next door. The day before Joseph has to leave to go to boot campy Kasey wants to have a proper goodbye with Joseph. Her parents are away and she has the perfect chance. Joseph thought that Kasey was too good for him; however, this all changed one night.
“I’ve waited so long to be able to that. I better leave now, Kasey, before I end up doing something I’m going to regret.”
“Please don’t leave. Not now.”
“Are you sure? Just let go, Kasey. It will feel good. I promise.”
Things never go according to planned though. Joseph leaves without saying goodbye and Kasey's mother notices a change in her. Due to this, she sends Kasey away to live with her aunt since she no longer wants to have anything do with Kasey. During this time, Kasey tried to get in touch with Joseph to let him know about everything that has happened, but she never could. He never showed up to get her. He did go back after boot camp, only to realize that she is gone and that he shouldn't look for her.
5 long years later, Joseph and Kasey reunite when their paths cross by chance. Joseph is in the Marines and is home visiting his friend Mark. Here we find out that Joseph is engaged to Elizabeth, whom everyone hates.
“You still with that girl you hooked up with a couple of years ago in Vegas?”
“Her name is Elizabeth. I finally popped the question to Elizabeth and we’re getting married.”
“Are you sure she’s the one dude? Like the one you can’t live without?”
“I silently answer to myself; no she isn’t the one I couldn’t live without. That girl I left behind long ago and I’ve haven’t seen her since.”
When their paths cross again, everything changes for them both.
“I’m surprised to see you as well. I never thought I would see you again.”
“I didn’t think I’d ever see you again either."
“Is there something you need to tell me, Kasey?”
Joseph will make you swoon!!!!!!! He knows that Kasey is the one and is perfectly capable of admitting that to himself. He is just afraid of letting Elizabeth down. When Kasey finally finds out about Elizabeth, she is willing to let go and leave. Joseph won't let her!!
“I don’t care what she thinks, Kasey. I brought you here because I can’t stand the thought of knowing that you’re so far away.”
“How can you say you don’t care what she thinks? Don’t you love her enough to car about her feelings?”
“I don’t love her anymore.”
Kasey is incredibly insecure. She does not believe that she is Joseph's choice and love. This is a short and incredible read. I instantly fell in love with this book right from the prologue. This is a must read!!
4 STARS!!
This was a sweet, second chance romance. I actually didn't take this book seriously at first, but I got curious and started reading. Turns out, I finished it within the day.
Kasey Wilson was a daughter of very religious parents, and one night, when she invited her friend and the boy-next-door, Joseph, they end up giving in to their passion. What they realize that night is that their relationship runs way deeper than just friendship, and the consequence of that night will forever alter their lives, especially Kasey's. Since her parents believed that what she has done is unforgivable, they shun her from their home and ship her off to her Amish aunt's house.
Joseph Mitchell has been in love with his neighbor, Kasey, for a while now and only realized this after their passionate night together right before he took off for boot camp, leaving Kasey sleeping alone on her bed. Although, while he was away, he could not stop thinking about her at all. When he returns from camp, he heads straight to Kasey's house looking for her but her parents told him she left for college, which was untrue, and without telling him exactly where she was so he couldn't find her. In doing so, he believed that Kasey chose to leave him and was heartbroken, knowing he will never love anyone the way he did her. He didn't have a choice, however, but to move on because he had no idea where she's gone.
Kasey continued writing letters to Joseph telling him of what happened, and kept waiting for him to show up and save her. This doesn't happen because of the fact that he never got any of those letters, forcing her to move on as well, after a few years of not hearing anything from him. As fate would have it, these two end up seeing each other again after five years apart, and Joseph is left completely overwhelmed from both seeing Kasey and the news that he then finds out.
I really loved Joseph and Kasey's characters. Kasey because of her strength, conviction, and love for both Josephina and Joseph. Joseph because of his dedication, sweetness, as well as his undying and unconditional love for Kasey. I also love how he fell in love with Josephina as much as he did and how he always put them first. It's made obvious that he never loved Elizabeth and just proposed to her because of her nagging as well as the fact that he admitted he was trying to replace Kasey, but he just couldn't. He admitted that no one could ever take her place and he couldn't love anyone as much as he did her.
A lot of emotions are also expressed in this book. It was a good book, and I would certainly recommend it to those who love a good second chance romance novel.
First off let me say I am beyond excited to tell you that this is a STAND ALONE BOOK! I don't have to wait forever to wait for the next book in the series! This makes me happy, so that it one bonus point for this book.
Ok- in all seriousness I did like this book. I pretty much knew from the synopsis what was going to be the main plot of the book, so they may as well have said from the beginning that Kasey slept with Joseph before he left to be a Marine. Of course she was going to get pregnant- that was a given because that is ALWAYS what happens. How they get to their HEA though is what the main plot of the story lies. Kasey grows up in a very religious family who basicly shuns her as soon as she gets pregnant (which she is so naive that she don't even know she is pregnant- her parents figure it our for her). They ship her off to live with her Amish aunt in a small town in Wisconsin. She gets by making soup in her home. While at the Farmers Market, she runs into her first love Joseph who is back on a vacation to visit his friend Mark and his wife Ashley. He literally runs into the beautiful 4 year old with the same blue eyes as the one he can't forget. As you can guess it was Kasey and he is beyond surprised to learn that the blue eyed 4 year old is his daughter. He wants to do right by Josephina and her mother, but he is engaged to be married to another woman. One who does not want his daughter to be part of his life.
I liked the plot of the story. I loved the characters and the way that the story flowed. I was rooting for Kasey the whole way, and wanted to smack some sense into her at times. She is very independent, which I found refreshing in a lead female. The whole no backbone female lead is getting a bit overplayed lately. I find it funny that everyone but Joseph is able to see how horrible his fiance is, and that he really doesn't want her in his life, but at the same time he is just doing what he needs to do to make her happy. Josephia is as cute as they come and you can see why everyone that meets her falls in love with her. If I had to say what was lack luster, I would say that it was it took Joseph so long to get rid of his evil fiance. We only get a brief glimps of her, but I would have thought that the way that she was that she would try to get even a little bit more then she did. All in all this was a good book that I would recommend to someone that is just looking for that classic romance to read at the beach.
Received a copy in exchange for an honest review
“Already weak from his touch, I lean my head back, it lands on his shoulder as he continues to nip his way down my collarbone and then slowly trailing kisses back up my neck. His warm tongue glides on my skin, sending a chill down my spine, hitting me like a jolt of electricity at my core.”
3 stars. I can’t really say whether I liked this book or didn’t like this book. I’m right down the middle with the characters and the storyline.
What happens when you take a chance one night … make a decision that will change your life forever?
Kasey Wilson, the girl next door, had a crush on the boy next door … Joseph Mitchell was that boy.
Kasey was left with the consequences of her decision when Joseph left her behind, leaving for the Marine Corps. She never thought she would see Joseph again, leaving her to continue on with her life, moving forward.
But fate has a way of intervening …
Joseph Mitchell always lived with the regret of walking away that night, never to see Kasey again. Finally ready to settle down, he’s now engaged to someone else. But when he finds Kasey again, he learns of a secret she’s been keeping, a secret that will change both their lives forever.
Can they finally have the relationship they never had? Or will Joseph be forced to walk away again?
This book was a quick read, which I did love. But it was slightly predictable in some parts. Kasey was always the good girl that fell in love with the boy next door. After a night when her parents are out of town, she invites Joseph over for dinner and when he’s about to leave they end up kissing and one thing leads to another and then end up losing her virginity to him. Joseph ends up leaving for basic training and Kasey finds out she’s pregnant. Her super religious parents are embarrassed by this and force her to live with her aunt. Joseph comes home looking for her, but her parents lie and say she’s off at college, saddened by the news he re-enlists. Five years later he runs into Kasey and his daughter, that he doesn’t know. Sadly Joseph is now engaged to a horrible woman. She hides letters that Kasey has sent Joseph, determined to keep Joseph to herself. But Joseph doesn’t want to lose Kasey and his daughter again. The story is good, but it was predictable during some parts.
I was a bit disappointed, I really had higher hopes for this one.
We have a teenage girl saying goodbye to her neighbor/friend but handing over her V-card...yeah ok..that happens..but not when your parents are these huge religious freaks - that do not allow you to date, have any company over, etc.
Fast forward five years, Kasey our "not longer a virgin" is a mommy to a girl named Josephina. I am sorry but today the world is cruel, why would you name your child that? The daddyo's name is Joseph so she wanted something close? How about Joeanne? Even that would have been better than Josephina? I'm sorry I am having a hard time picturing a 4 year old baby by that name...
Anyhoo, another thing was that the book didn't describe what they looked like and I sort of wish it had so I could try relating to them better but all I know is:
Joseph: green eyes, buzz cut almost bold
Kasey: blue eyes
Josephina: 4, curly hair, blue eyes.
Not my cup of tea, I am all about 2nd chances but this one didn't do it for me.
*contains spoilers*
With Me by Gabbi S. Durban is definitely a book I liked, but some of the writing takes away from it.
The plot I give 4 stars. But the writing I only give 2.5-3.
When I read the pitch, I immediately knew she was pregnant in his absence. either a) with his baby or b) with another guy she moved onto after he left. I kept thinking A though. the summery made this obvious.
As for some of the plot issues:
I didn't like how he stumbled upon her right away. I expected more of a ease into it. Allow readers get to know each character better before the big boom! As the book goes on, this makes sense. The novel is about Joseph getting close to them and being a father,so why drag it down with pointless knowledge at the beginning. So I definitely understand why it was written like that, but as a reader I think I'd like for it to have just a chapter at the beginning to introduce each character and their daily lives.
One thing I didn't fully understand was her pregnancy. I understand some parents disown and kick pregnant mothers out of the house. But sending her away to "college" (being her aunt's farm) What is this, the 50s? No one does that nowadays. Now, girls just get kicked out.
Another thing that didn't add up: she makes soaps to afford a small studio apartment thing, but drives an SUV and is able to buy plane tickets. Even when she admitted she makes just enough to survive and can't afford internet O.o
Despite those few things, I think the writing in this book would be fantastic if everything, especially when they were thinking about something, was not told, and would have been shown. instead of just putting the thoughts they're wondering, the author would write "I wondered" "I guessed" ect. Once in a while, sure. but after a while it's annoying and discouraging.
Other than that,I thought the whole novel was a dream to read. It was adorable (especially seeing Joseph with Josephina), romantic, heart warming... all those good adjectives. I definitely suggest this novel to any fan of the genre.
Review
The book sounds complicated because of the plot, but it was actually a fast read for me. There were parts of the book that were sweet, and there were also parts that I liked the least. Honestly, the premise of this book is already very common. I don’t remember how many books I’ve read in the past where the story is highly similar to With Me. However, romance novels never get old for me, so I still liked this book.
I like the second chance themes because I’ve always agreed that love is sweeter the second time around, especially if it’s the right one for you. I believe that whatever issues you’ve had the first time around, you are now mature enough to see through them this time. I wouldn’t call this book a true second chance romance because, the way I see it, they never got a proper first chance anyway.
I liked this book because of Kasey. I think that for a girl who got sent away by her parents, was forced to endure her pregnancy and delivery on her own, and raised her child alone, she was an admirable character. Joseph is her weakness, so I will forgive her lapses when it came to him because, hey, we all have those.
What I couldn’t like was Joseph and the way he juggled two women at the same time. I won’t explain things in details, but I strongly feel there was a better way that his character could have handled his situation better. I enjoyed the ending because both characters have shown growth and development, so overall, I am a happy reader.
With Me was a quick read for me. It was pretty simple for me to guess what was going to happen right off the bat. Kasey has always had a crush on the boy next door, Joseph. The story starts off when her very religious, strict parents are out of town and she invites him over for dinner. She invites him to stay to talk afterward. When he is getting ready to leave, they end up kissing and then she loses her virginity to him. Of course, he has to leave for basic training the next morning as he has enlisted with the Marines. Well, turns out Kasey gets pregnant and her parents are so appalled that they ship her off to live with her aunt. When Joseph finishes basic and comes looking for her, she is of course gone. He is told that she is off at college. He is heartbroken, but goes back to serve. Fast forward 5 years later...
He coincidentally runs into her, and the daughter he never knew about. But wait! Joseph is engaged (to a horrible, spoiled girl, in my opinion.) All his fiancee does is complain and boss him around. I really don't know why he would be with her. She is awful. So he finds out that Josephina is his daughter and that Kasey did try to contact him several times, but she believed he wanted nothing to do with them. He never got the letters she sent. He is determined to not let Kasey and Josephina slip through his hands.
I enjoyed this story and the characters to a point. It lacked depth and felt a little two dimensional to me. While the characters were likable and had a little bit of a personality, they felt a little stiff and formal to me. Josephina is a four year old girl. While I understood that she was supposed to be intelligent for her age, she spoke well above her supposed age, like maybe how a 7 or 8 year old would talk. It was a little unbelievable to me.
Despite these things, it really was a sweet story and I did enjoy it. I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for something that is quick and not heavy.
This was a beautiful light hearted read. It was like reading a hallmark movie script. This story was sweet, fun, romantic and different than most reads.
In With Me we are introduced to Kasey who is a hard working, independent, loving, single mother. Lives every day making sure her daughter is taken care and has what she needs. After living a shelter life and having a rough pregnancies, she does everything she can for her daughter.
Joseph is on leave from the military when he runs in to Kasey. Joseph is hard working, love the military and has felt as if something has been missing since high school.
"He turns his head in my direction. His eyes look dark and saddened, almost as if they are lifeless. I can only sit here, frozen and unable to say anything, as I stare back at him. I feel like the blood has drained completely from my stomach. The pain of hearing he's engaged is still stabbing at my heart. I don't know why the news of hearing that he's engaged would make me feel this way. He was never mine to begin with. Ever. But the news hurts regardless"
Five years have past since Kasey and Joseph have seen each other and so much has changed in each other life. Things have changed for them so much since high school. Joseph drove crazy sometime I wish he would pull it together. Kasey, handled change as best as she could. Holding on to her past keep her from allowing her self to moving on with anyone.
This was a great story. I think it was a 1 and million chance that they ended up meet in another state, in a farmers market. This was beautifully written and the I loved the character. This book keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see if Kasey and would get the second chance happily ever after.
With Me is a sweet and heart yearning read of wanting what you can't have, having people, circumstances and time determine what you think your future should be despite craving the one person who makes you happy and lights up your soul. Kacey Wilson had secretly been crushing on Joseph Mitchell as a young girl and after sharing one night together they act on their true feelings for each other. As Joseph heads off to Boot camp the next morning leaving Kacey behind, she holds onto their one night of passion and tries to move on with her life not knowing if Joseph feels anything more for her. Sadly their lives don’t intertwine until four years later when they run into each other unexpectedly, and they find they are unable to keep away as their buried feelings begin to resurface and a secret that ties them together becomes exposed.
I loved the storyline as it was predictable and easy to delve into when you want to read something sweet and romantic. The story is told in present tense alternating from Kasey to Joseph and I just loved reading about his thoughts and feelings. Why the three stars you ask well I didn’t feel that connected to Kasey and Joseph. I wanted to see more of a spark between them from the get go and passion as they re-entered each other’s lives. I would also have liked more drama from Elizabeth that showed Joseph’s alpha male side, and felt that there was unanswered questions which needed closure. Normally I don’t bother writing reviews that fall at three stars, but I felt that I really enjoyed the storyline as lost love, second chance romances are some of my favourite reads and Joseph was just so sweet and loving that I had to write a review. The story and heat factor just needed to be pulled in to lift the book up to a 4/5 star rating for me, overall it's still worth a read and it won't be my last by this author.
