Hunting a killer, a female detective is drawn into the abyss…Liverpool is in the grip of a serial killer. He suffocates his victims using a bin bag, and discards them like refuse on the streets.

After tricking her way through a psychological evaluation, Detective Eleanor Rose has returned to police work.

Her estranged half-sister, Beth Krush, who is also in the force, has not. Rather, she is languishing in hospital with a serious knife wound, battling demons during her sleepless nights.

Both are determined to solve the case. Rose is following her instincts, tracking down a once brilliant psychiatrist, now a homeless drifter, who may know the killer’s identity.

Bedbound, Krush is following a logical approach. Working the little evidence she can garner from loyal colleagues. Profiling the killer.

As the tension in the bleak, fearful, and unforgiving city reaches fever-pitch, nerves will snap. Who will be on the receiving end?

ROUGH SLEEPER is a dark, mind-twisting, emotional ride, with compelling characters and a jaw-dropping climax you won’t forget. Look out for OUTCAST SISTER, the sensational first standalone book in this gripping detective series by James Davidson.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the connections made to what happened with Daniel and the first book in the series. Yet I was really disappointed in the character growth because it took a turn for the worse: especially in how Eleanor's character changed to be someone even more paranoid and oblivious. I was really hoping Eleanor and Beth would come together as sisters to solve the murders happening in Liverpool. Not only did they maintain to hate each other, but I honestly think there were still so many gaps in their connection with Daniel and what happened to him. Although the storyline and twist at the end was WAY BETTER than the first book, I can't help but be frustrated because it feels like there are still too many gaps in the plot and why Daniel died the way he did. GIVE MY MAN DANIEL SOME JUSTICE!

Top-notch British detective fiction, showing how much talent is coming out from this side of the pond.
As a follow up - though it can easily be read as a standalone - to OUTCAST SISTER, we enter deeper into the world of Eleanor and Beth - two sisters, both detectives, as they both investigate the same killer. Gradually building in a controlled but dammit-one-more-chapter-even-though-I-have-work-tomorrow kind of way to a thunderous climax, this is a masterclass in genre writing.
