Secrets never rest in peace.

Haunted by a past that refuses to rest, FBI Special Agent Journey Russo faces a darkness deeper than any before. The discovery of a mass grave in an abandoned coal mine by two teenagers and their loyal dog pulls her back into the shadows she’s fought so hard to escape.

Beneath the earth, madness reigns.

What lies in the mine’s heartrending silence is a tableau of terror—bodies distorted and intertwined in a gruesome embrace. Forensic analysis unveils a chilling pattern of death that stretches across the years. This nightmare, borne not of a cult’s madness but of a singularly depraved mind, propels Journey on a quest for justice as relentless as it is personal.

As the investigation spirals into a race against an unseen clock, Journey confronts a puzzle that defies logic. How did one assailant overpower so many, and why the distinct cruelty? The discovery of new victims adds urgency to their hunt. But as each clue is unearthed, Journey edges closer to darkness, risking more than just her life.

Journey’s Terror, book two of the exciting new Journey Russo series by bestselling author Mary Stone challenges the very notion of safety in love’s embrace. Thinking of having a romantic getaway? Think again.

Loved it!

Journey's Terror Is a story with well-defined characters who have back stories of their own. If you enjoy mysteries with plot twists and don't mind staying up late to finish the book, you will love Mary Stone's Journey Russo FBI Series.

Had to put down!

Not often do I say I have to put one down but this was so enrapturing that I truly felt as if I was there through many pages and literally had to put it down! I felt as if I were living each character throughout the book. Wonderful writer. Thanks.

Another good Tale from Mary Stone

I am a big fan of Mary Stone's FBI books - good characters and interesting plots. A definite recommendation for those who like legal procedurals.

I do have one small complaint. Like many, many authors she makes a word choice that drives me crazy ... using "cement" when she means "concrete". Cement is an ingredient in concrete, just like flour is an ingredient in ... cake. One would never use the latter incorrectly, but "cement column", "cement sidewalk" and just plain "cement" are commonly used. Cement is a binder that when added to sand, water, and often rocks and allowed to harden (i.e., like "bake") makes "concrete", just like flour is mixed with eggs, sugar, butter and other things and baked (hardens) to make cake or brownies or cookies . The columns, sidewalks, walls, etc. are "concrete".

Sorry for this public complaint, but ...

I like this book better than the first. These partners are beginning to mesh and work well. This assignment will bring them face to face with an unusual killer. This demented man has twisted his past Biblical exposure and built his own commands from the Lord himself. He, as usual, was a tortured child who never quite grew out of the torture. He has twisted his knowledge of the Bible to take on a mission of wiping out sinners, particularly those who are unmarried couples. He is a true madman and has over 17 murders he is responsible for. But who is the killer? Every lead points to one person but then you have a second person creeping into the equation. Are they partners? This is a thrill ride with twists and turns that lead you down the rabbit hole. It's a good read and well worth the time.

Journey and Lucas are back with a new case and it spans years and covers a twisted mind that looks at couples as sinners. There are new characters from the local sheriff office and of course Michelle is back as Journeys sister and the FBI crime scene tech. The story covers weeks as they work to solve the case and we see them continue to develop their partnership. I enjoyed the conversations and inner dialogue, as well as there not being a romantic angle between them or Lucas and Michelle. The ending was fitting in the outcome of the villain and how it played on both of their history. The use of food and coffee as memory sensor and bonding component is fun. As with most MS books it ends with a new case popping up for the next book!

Couples in Love and Death

Special Agent Journey Russo and her partner, Special Agent Lucas Sullivan are assigned to go to West Virginia to investigate a mass grave found in an abandoned mine. This case will be hard on both as they deal with their pasts. Eleven victims are recovered from the mine. Who are the victims? How were they killed? How many more victims will be found? Why were they killed? Will the killer be found be more people are killed?

Journey’s Terror is the right name for this book. The horror that the victims endured was unbelievable. It is well written and has plenty of suspense, horror, grief, and emotional content to keep you reading until the end. The Journey Russo series is off to a great start.

From the page one, Mary and Amy take us on the fast paced terror path of the serial killer, who leaves no clues or even the time to think about the reasons behind this madness. Journey and Lucas face not only the mass grave and gruesome killings, but also their own suppressed dark memories and secrets, which surface with every single crazy step, the killer makes. How will they handle it and will they be able to solve this crazy case? I was breathless, when I finished this thriller. Wow. And the cliff hanger!!!!! Another superb thriller to scare your pants off. Bravo!

Puzzles, Mystery and Murder.
I enjoyed reading the book Journey's Terror. It's so true that we all have pasts we deal with in our dreams, insomnia or even in our everyday life. Journey and Lucas both are dealing with personal pasts that some cases they work bring those past into the light. This particular case brings fear and you wonder how they can work through it to solve a mystery of the murders they are finding.
This was one of those books you cannot put down. It can keep you on edge. Mary Stone and Amy Wilson have written another great book.

I’ve always enjoyed Mary Stone’s books. And I’m enjoying this series although the dynamic between Journey and Lucas is a bit dull. They don’t seem to be very attached. But their background issues they deal with are interesting. The storyline in this book was intriguing (although the vivid descriptions of what the poor victims went through turned my stomach - I had to skip through them). Good mystery and didn’t figure out who the killer was till the very end.

One thing I have to say (and this drives me crazy) - the story behind Lucas’s Alaska event in book 1 was totally different than what was described in book 2. I actually went back to book 1 to read what happened in Alaska. Book 2 described a different scenario. Sloppy writing.

Other than those issues, a really good read.

A!though Journey Russo is a fairly new FBI agent, she is proving to be an expert in solving cases. Haunted by her past, she pairs well with her partner, Lucas, who also has family secrets that keep him awake. As they work together, can they put their pasts behind them? Finding 13 bodies in an abandoned cave starts the case rolling to find a serial killer & stop him before he kills his next victim. A page turner that won't disappoint!

This was quite the grisly tale of terror. Journey and Lucas are called in to find out what is happening to the couples that have all gone missing in the same area.
I like the interactions between the characters, and this was a really good one. Usually, the locals are reluctant to work with the FBI, and that makes the job harder. This time, they had a smart sheriff who actually worked well with them. Made it nice to read as there weren't so many confrontations.

Great Who Done It

A stack of thirteen bodies is found by two boys going to check out a haunted defunct mine sends Special Agent Journey Russo and partner in a quest to find the killer(s). During their investigation two more bodies were found and another couple is missing. Who? Why? How? Can they figure it out before the last couple is murdered? You have to read this fast paced story to get the answer. Very enjoyable. Thank you. Great job.

Another fast moving story!

The two FBI Special Agents get put right into another case. It's amazing how good they work together. Just their 2nd case, and they have respect and trust for each other. This case will test the resolve of the whole FBI. When multiple human remains in different stages of decomposition are discovered in an abandoned mine shaft, all departments are needed to figure out who they are and who did these overwhelmingly cruel deeds to them.

I really enjoyed following Lucas and Journey go through another murder investigation. This time a serial killer who has a God complex. Thinks he is doing the work of God by killing sinners who are together before marriage. So he targets couples. This was interesting having several internal dialogue from the killer and the FBI agents. Although gruesome in how they are murdered and some selective sexual dialogue it was def an interesting book to read.

Journey and her partner Lucas are thrust into a bizarre find of several bodies in various states of decomp in an abandoned mine. The race is on to find out who these folks are and who has dumped them. The ME is able to determine how many bodies and a general idea of time of death. They appear to be all murdered in the same pattern. This story is fast paced with many twists and turns.

A run down hotel, a mine shaft and a whole lot of naked dead bodies trace back to one who some did not expect. Journey and her new partner, Lucas, are working well together and learning about the other's idiosyncrasies and strengths. The pair, along with the FBI and Journey's sister, Michelle, unveil the perpetrator and save a victim just in the nick of time.

Engrossing Read

Good misdirection on focusing on the motel owner when they solved the mystery. They were a little slow getting there, but were right on the conclusion. Aside - not a big fan of the main character's name, Journey. Also the references to James Dean are not very current and almost made me stop reading, but I glad I didn't.

Depressing

I've read the majority of Mary Stones's books in these series. The main characters can be too depressing sometimes. Why do they all have to have such trauma they can't deal with? They are always second-guessing themselves and being maudling. I get it to a point, but it's getting ridiculous.

In the first book, I said that I wasn't sure I could get into the characters, but I wanted to give it another shot. With the second in the series, I am still not sure I like the characters as much as some of the other series I read, but I did like the story line in this one. Now if both could be put into one book, I would be a happy camper!

ah, criminal grimness

A cache of bodies - layered - at the bottom of a ventilation shaft at an abandoned, defunct mine, discovered when two curious youngsters venture into the mine entrance.

In this case, the perpetrator is not schizophrenic but obviously has issues.

Too graphic

I could not finish reading the book because the writing was too graphic, too gory. Crimescenes are in sure but I don't want to see such vivid descriptions when I'm reading, especially at night!
