Tan's artworks are just not as great as Anacleto's ones in original volume that gave birth to this high fantasy series, but they are still very good ones, and Dromo's past tale and the cannibalistic deity Winter King's brutal storyline were real ☆☆☆☆☆ ones.



Sadly main storyline was meandering and title was canceled so many plots like Dromo's schemes, Neva's quest and why the Ancient cursed bairn to slay the Gods (it reminded me a lot Raziel's origin in Soul Reaver videogame, a relic from my old gone gamer days) are going to have not a satisfying ending.
Besides that this was an above average fantasy read.

Wasn't the biggest fan... So I saw the new Spawn trade for the recently resurrected Al Simmons so it got me in the Spawn mood, and then I saw this book featuring an alternate spawn, granted its from like 10 years ago, but I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately this wasn't for me... So this version of Spawn is set in a medieval fantasy world, Spawn was once a young prince going off to war, promising to return to his Finance, but like the Spawn trope he dies and makes a deal with devil and now he's a medieval Spawn? Don't get me wrong I like this concept, I love medieval fantasy stuff, but this was just executed very poorly. This series was originally a one off one shot, but they just had to expand it! The story was just...uninteresting, it was dull, I didn't really care for most of the characters, and ya it was just forgettable... Artwork wise this comic is awesome though, its sort of got that trippy yet visually amazing look that Arkham Asylum had, not as crazy as that book but in that sort of style, compliments to Philip Tan! Not a fan of how Spawn is drawn though, I know its supposed to be an alternate version but I would have liked a different design. But overall ya, I think I'll just stick to Al Simmons Spawn!

This was a pretty good dark fantasy tale. It very much fit into different stories of Myths and Legends you've probably heard over the years, although this is an original tale.

The art was very good. Not quite as good as the painted art in the original graphic novel, but still very well done. The story was still a little hard to follow in places, but a lot of fantasy can be like that. There's a pretty major twist near the end of the story I never saw coming. The ending itself seemed to be a bit sudden, as I'm guessing the title got canceled and the writer had to do a quick wrap up. Still, it was an ending that made sense and did give the story at least some sense of closure. If anyone read Spawn: The Dark Ages and liked it, then they should definitely give this one a try.

Really, there wasn't much similarities between the original Spawn series and this one, other than it had the same time of atmosphere and vibe. If you're a Spawn fan, you'll probably enjoy it. But if you're a fantasy fan of Conan, Frazetta, etc. you'll probably like it even more. There aren't a whole lot of fantasy comics like this that I've seen, so I'd recommend it for you die hard Sword and Sorcery fans.

The one shot of "Spawn Godslayer" was amazing; it featured a simple plot with some lovely artwork and it was perfect. Yet it's no mystery why Image Comics wanted to expand this world and it seemed like a good choice at the start but issues featuring good artwork and no plot slowly killed fan interest in this book and thus it was put on the chopping block.

We're introduced to Bairn once again whose as surly as ever but which Spawn wasn't? The setup was great and fairly grand in fact maybe to grand for the scope of the initial issues. We were introduced to a plethora of gods and characters but the story lacked direction. Why does Godslayer slay gods? Unlike Spawn there is no Malebogia toying with him which is fine but at least give the guy some purpose. The plot meanders between issues and is only saved (slightly) by Philip Tan's excellent artwork

It is slow, pretentious, with great artwork and character design, so basically Spawn with a fantasy aesthetic. Could use some humor and charm (that Spawn often had).
