The Reclaimed Woman: Love Your Shadow, Embody Your Feminine Gifts, Experience the Specific Pleasures of Who You Are

Rate this book
Reclamation isn’t about taking back what was stolen and winning.
It’s about owning what you’ve always had and ending the war inside.

New York Times
bestselling author and published natural health reclamation advocate Kelly Brogan MD is back to push the envelope of discourse on self-ownership, authenticity, and sovereignty. This time, she has a message for all  you deserve to feel alive.

Showcasing the reasons modern women are living hollow, unfulfilling, overwhelming, and complaint-filled lives, The Reclaimed Women resolves the gaslight that says, we should be enjoying the freedom hard-wrought by feminism, sexual liberation, and medication

Women are lost, we’ve been duped, and we’ve abandoned our true nature in exchange for seeming empowerment.

Masterful at offering women the permission to self-embrace, Brogan invites you to come home to yourself so that you can finally experience the specific pleasure of who you are.

This book offers a provocative perspective on feminine reclamation including the imperative to learn the skills of self-safety in order to embody creative expression. Using actionable steps based on the experience of her own heroine’s journey, Brogan’s "one stop shop" will help you claim the jewels from the cave of your shame, own your badness, and align with your desires.  Refreshing, candid, and transformational, The Reclaimed Woman exposes all of the ways that women are outsourcing their power and living life from childhood wounds in business, mothering, and relationships.

If you feel like . . .
you say no when you mean yes and yes when you mean no there’s more to you but don’t know how to access it you’re confused about where sexuality belongs in your life you feel you need to explain yourself to others who question your decisions you partner with safe, nice guys or try to control dangerous ones you make yourself small to make other women comfortable you’re bitter, jealous, resentful, and can easily describe women you can’t stand even the celebratory moments feel a bit empty

. . . The Reclaimed Woman  will shatter the glass ceiling of your too-small story, delivering you to your most audacious life.

In this lovely book, Dr. Brogan gives women a loving, fierce, playful permission slip to become more wild. It requires an open mind around topics such as feminism, health reclamation, man/woman relating, sex, parenting, and beyond. If you fall firmly into either a "conservative" or a "liberal" mindset, you may find her takes challenging. Highly recommend for women longing to step out of victim consciousness around their health, families, finances, the government, men, and, most importantly, themselves. I can't wait to implement her wisdom more deeply into my own life.

This book is for a very specific audience and if it's for you, you're going to love it. It was about ...half... for me.

The parts about deeper self awareness, especially seeing how your struggles are for your healing benefit were for me.

The parts about erotic pleasure and integration were not for me. I'm not necessarily opposed to the ideas presented but it's not the approach I'm interested in at the moment.

Kelly Brogan is a woman after my own heart. The way she can guide and allow for deep self reflection and accountability is unmatched. She compiled some of my favorite teachings into one book. I'll be reading it through a second time in a row, and probably once a year following.

I held off on writing this review until I read Brogan’s first book “A Mind of Your Own,” which I reviewed as well written and well presented. I did not have the same experience with this book. If you asked me about Brogan’s first book, I could share with you the main ideas of the author and the purpose of it including my personal takeaways.

If you asked me about this book, I could not articulate the ideas and purpose of this book as conveyed by the author. At most, I could provide a very generalized idea of what the intent of the book was.

When I got to the last chapter, which was bringing it all together, I was still left grasping for understanding of what the whole point of book was about.

To me, the book was written in such an abstract way that the intent and meaning was just hovering in the clouds unable to land. This sadden me as per other reviews of people who “got it” it was very impactful. I don’t doubt the message Brogan is trying to get across is useful and impactful, I just feel that for many who pick up this book, it will be lost in the abstract way it was presented.

As I read through the pages, I kept waiting for the dummy translation of what was said or having it grounded into more relatable terms. I am not sure why I could not glean the meaning from the pages as I consider myself part of the spiritual community so I had been exposed to some of the concepts before that they were not completely foreign to me.

This is not the first time I struggled with the abstract writing of the author. At one point, the author posted on her social a picture and about 5-6 paragraphs of written text that was written in this same abstract way. I read the text and remember thinking that I was not sure I understood what she was saying. I took a good guess at interpreting the meaning. I went to the comments, which were flowing with questions of “I don’t understand. What does this mean?” Those 5-6 abstract paragraphs message translated to Brogan announcing her divorce from her 2nd husband.

For me, this was the experience of this book in that there was a simple translation that was written in an abstract and mystical way.

Brogan had one other book I have not read, but I am not inclined to read it after my experience with this book.

If you like horror movies and high drama this book might be for you.

I am looking for a cosier way forward and I will from now on avoid the words feminine and masculine since it is just confusing.
Brogan's "mature"masculine in women, immature feminine etc seems to reinforce old memes/our broken bits rather than heal, (though that's not her intention) she has that vibe.

Some things I am onside with, IFS or her challenging that the entire population needs to be on anti-depressants. She is a relateable writer, but not a healer and I don't find this stiletto world view liberating.
She also doesn't believe in evolution or NASA or and has a conspiracy lens on "plandemic".
I am a bit weary of a world with sex at the centre of everything, or villainous women-I want to get out of these binary witch/whore frameworks which Brogan reinforces with "Own it and thereby transcend!". It is ultimately the same vibe as patriarchal approach, dom/sub/ick.

I actually found myself disturbed, like I'd eaten rat poison thinking it was chia seeds.

And sort of good for Brogan/anyone going out and being their full self.

And be careful who you listen to.

I didn’t agree with every thing in the book of course, but overall it was excellent and provided a different outlook on femininity and womanhood than I am used to hearing. There were many parts of this book that resonated with me deeply. This was my first introduction to the author and I look forward to seeking out more of her works.

This book changed my life in the best way. It will challenge you. The determining factor of what you “get out of it” is simply whether you are ready to hear the hard truths or not. Do I agree with every single thing in here? No. But I am no longer a victim in my life thanks in large part to picking this book out at random. THANK YOU Dr. Kelly!

Kelly Brogan is likely the voice needed for the world to realize what real feminine liberation means. We need brave women, who can stand on their feet and live up their being regardless of the compulsions that targets them from the outside. That requires real bravery. Hats of to all the beings there who manage to do this.

The chapter on feminism alone made the book worth listening to. Men should also listen to it. An ideology that would need a Frankfurt school type of treatment.

We need more of this raw, non-apologizing but similarly warm and soft-spoken Kelly Brogan!
