I have a problem with how the complications seem to resolve quite easily despite being so messed up for so long.

2.5 stars. I never fully got into this series. Some of the emotions/motivations of the fem MC and male MC were a little muddy for me. For example, why does the fem MC have such a strong affinity for the male MC, to the exclusion of all other guys? By her own words the male MC’s younger brother was there for her more growing up. Why is the male MC so fixated on getting his siblings back in the home after all this time? Why wasn’t he sent to live with family after his parent’s deaths like his siblings were? What has he been doing since then? How long has it been? Both MCs repeat their feelings/intentions over and over in nearly every conversation they have with each other and other characters (actually, all the characters do this, it’s a very very repetitive series), but there’s no explanations, everything just is.

I understand that as a manga that’s been translated from Japanese to English there’s going to be a lot of terms used that I’m not familiar with, it’s also been a years since I read manga, so I don’t remember how common it is for translated manga to have explanations for cultural references, but I do think it would have been helpful if this manga had more of them. For volumes 1-10, if I’m remembering correctly, the only things that were consistently explained/translated were the names of Japanese warlords and samurai, and the Japanese writing on shop banners in the backgrounds. I usually love looking up words that I’m not familiar with as I’m reading, but as I was already struggling with finishing the story, it was easy to get distracted and fall down a rabbit hole of researching Japanese culture. Needing to reference the internet so often also broke the continuity of the story and took me out of the more tense moments. The way some of the conversations were phrased was also a little clunky and awkward, though that’s likely a result of an un-tweaked translation.

I also don’t really understand why the fem MC didn’t choose the male MC’s brother. I don’t but I do, I guess, but he was clearly the better choice because he proved he had her back and was ready now, while all the male MC could give her was “I like you, we’ll try this out later.” It all felt more like an intense childhood to adulthood crush to me more than anything. I didn’t see why he would be drawn to her, their relationship felt like a mashup of roommates, guardian and young charge, and faux siblings. What’s sexy about that? I also tried not to think about the ages of the MCs too hard. While an age gap is okay, the female MC being 16/17, still in high school, and under the male MC’s care is not. Usually I suspend my disbelief with romances, and maybe things are a little different in Japan, but I can’t let this concept completely slide.

The last 3 volumes aren’t free in Kindle Unlimited and I realized I’m not invested enough to finish this series, so I’ll just leave it at that.

At the beginning of this volume, I wanted to kill Daiki’s selfish ass and at the end, I wanted to applaud him!!! He self analyzed and realized wtf he was doing to Hiro and Mao. I’m glad that this was the end of his chase for Mao.

Mao’s relationship with her step mom is so sweet. Step mom is such a wonderful parent. Now Mao’s dad? I’m not sure that he’ll ever change. I’m tired of him looking at Mao with disgust or not making eye contact at all. I almost hope that the step mom leaves him and takes Mao for herself!!!!

Christmas was sweet in this volume. Hiro and Mao are just adorable. So flirty. I couldn’t imagine waiting to be with the one I love. But I get not wanting to start a relationship before she’s 18 and living together makes things so serious so fast.

Yay, Hina’s going on the trip! Can’t wait to read the next volume!

Also, can we stop having Sugimoto in the story? Her drunk crying every volume is just pathetic…

At first, I find the illustrations really weird and I thought I'm not going to like this story. But here I am, writing this review. So it must be really good ha.

Well, it is! I love that it wasn't just your cheesy romance story but it also has some depth into it. I love that it was also about family and you know me, I love family stories. So yep, I shed a tear or two while reading this whole series and laugh as well.

I'm not sure how to end this review with a bang you I can be able to convince you to try this out, but it was really good. Promise!

A warm feeling of nostalgia permeates this entire volume.

This was another excellent volume in this series. The Christmas episode was my favorite, with the New Years Day episode being a close second. I enjoyed the subtle things like the characters' faces and the sibling-like dialog. I especially enjoy how real the characters feel. If only Mao's dad wasn't such a useless example of the species. He gives us dads a bad name.

Recomendadisimo.

the family drama is interesting but I hate the romance. also, why do the characters keep throwing parental figures into it? the way Mao keeps comparing Hiro to a mom, it's so weird. and the fact that Hiro thought of Mao as his sister. it's so wrong. I can't even.

I've fizzled out on this so much that I had to check the book out 4 times before I finished it...I just can't get into the young teenage girl and the adult having a relationship. Bleh. So gross. I'm glad the library doesn't have any more so I won't be tempted to force myself to continue.

Although a bit slower than the rest of the volumes, I still really liked it. I hope the story progresses in the next one.

Hina va-t-elle finir par revenir habiter chez elle ? Mao va-t-elle retourner vivre avec son père, sa belle-mère et sa demi-sœur ?

I hate the comment Hiro made about he knows how to clean, so he doesn’t need a wife. HUGE eye roll.

But…..I’m still obsessed.

The only volume I gave a 4/5 to. Loved most of this, but the ending was a bit disappointing for me.

Ahhhh~ i really can't control my feels to this. I hope they all make up soon~ I'm glad Daiki didn't move out!!!! It would be more complicated if he moves out because he was rejected. But still!!!! I have faith in this. They'll be okay soon, i guess.
