ASHLila comes into my life by chance, a blown tire, and a twist of fate.

A masterpiece of unruly auburn curls, fiery eyes, and a spirit that can set the world ablaze.

She is also the unfortunate driver I have to exploit to make my escape.

I've been many things in my life - convict, murderer, psychopath.

But the one thing I've never been is attached.

She is supposed to be a means to an end.

A less conspicuous way to travel.

But amidst the chaos, we find a twisted serenity in each other's arms, making me want to keep her forever... if we can survive this.

LILAAsh is a nightmare brought to life - a killer, a psychopath.

Muscular, tattooed, cold-eyed, with a darkness that can make anyone's blood run cold.

He is also my unwanted companion on a cross-country road trip from hell.

I see the darkness in him and witness it firsthand.

But the longer I spend with him, the more I find myself drawn to him, against all my better judgment.

He is the only man to ignite feelings in me I never knew I was capable of.

His touch is fire, his words a twisted comfort.

But how do you fall for a man you shouldn't trust?

Carjacked is a dark hitchhiker romance with heavy subjects that some readers may find triggering. A full list of the warnings will be found in the book. This story has no cliffhanger and ends with a HEA.

I'm so disappointed, I really expected this one to be good, from the synopsis.

I loved Hitched by Lauren Biel, so I was really interested in reading this, seeing that it also has an escaped convict and a carjack involved, FMC's car, of course.

But it definitely didn't deliver for me, at least ... probably because it was a short read and everything just happened so fast and rushed, I couldn't connect to the characters. I couldn't see their chemistry.

Even now, I'm not sure WHY he was so obsessed with her 🫣. I often found myself wondering: WHY?? The words were right, but I felt this was a forced combination of those right tropes and kinks in order to make the read successful. But I just couldn't feel it. Her fear was forced, his obsession the same. The sure thing is that he was deranged, which I liked, hence the rating not being lower.

The gun scene!!! uhm, nope, the only thing I could think of was: so many germs, God no!!! 🤢🫣😑

I'm sorry, I really tried liking this one more.

DO NOT SKIP THE TW!! 👀

Ps: This one might be right, though, for other readers since the rest of the reviews, until mine was posted, were better 😀🤷‍♀️.

Heaven help me, I just want my smut to be well-written. Is that really too much to ask?

How can you see the intense gaze of someone whose face is obscured?

Why are you worried about remembering where you are when you're still on the same damn road?

Is "raw, primal anxiousness"* really the best you've got?

Why are the antiheroes in these books always talking in melodramatic metaphor?

Why are the heroines always so fucking lacking in brains or self preservation?

Who is stupid enough to antagonise someone standing over them with a knife, debating whether to kill them?

Why do authors so often use the term "cold-blooded" for actions taken in anger?

Why did this guy put his ski mask on for the walk home but have no concerns about his face being seen in a bar and then killing someone just outside it?

How can you lace your fingers through the hair of someone wearing a ski mask?

How do you fit both rope and a gun inside the pocket of your trousers? How big is this pocket?

What part of "effortlessly lifting" fits with "dragging"?

Why are you so worried about giving a permanent tattoo to someone who kidnapped you at gun point? Like... isn't there anything more important on your mind?

Who thinks their family cabin is a subtle place to hide out from the law?

Has no one ever heard of arousal nonconcordance?

Is saying the characters had been abused/neglected as children meant to be justification?**

Is the author trying to piss me off??

*Fear, terror, horror, etc etc
** I can maybe accept this as a fantasy, but don't try and justify it. There's no justifying this.

What did I just read.. this book kept me intrigued enough because I had to find out what happened. But it was super anticlimactic. Not to mention all the holes and just… very misinformed things. There’s no way they just lived happily ever after in Alaska when he escaped prison for multiple murders and then commits MORE MURDER along the way! Including a cop?? And her parents are just going to visit and be like “oh! How lovely to meet the convicted murderer dating my daughter. We know there’s a national man-hunt for you, but we’re fine with it.”

Shine Bright Like a Diamond

The story of Ash + Lila reads like hard candy. Sweet, a hard outer shell, tough, with an explosion of delight. Glossy and smooth. Most of all, like candy, it's a nice, safe choice to consume a bit of hard and toughness. So the tropes are listed in the Author's Note and do heed them. The traumas were actually integrated well within the flow of the story. The biggest setback for me was the length and pacing. The story could easily have worked better as a novelette vs. a novella. The author uses the extra pages of real estate to build on the characters.

"My dirty starlight. That’s what she is. The light to my dark. The balm to my wounds."

Some good:
😋 the dirty talk is really good and filthy. The #degradationkink was tastefully done and nothing too extreme
😋 #CNC was folded well into the story, and even though I wished the story pushed itself, but the author promised CNC, and the readers got it
😋#primalplay and #gunplay isn't my personal jam, but it's popular now in dark romances, and the author doest just throw scenes on a page feeling like a checklist. No, instead, it felt like a smooth evolution of the characters' love story.
😋this is a legit dark romance even though Amazon considers it erotica

You’ll be my wife,” he states, his fingers gently tracing the contour of my face. His touch, despite the circumstances, is soothing. “My woman,” he adds, his voice dipping lower. “My world.”

Some ok
🤔 #pyschoMMC just didn't really take it all the way there. Cold and impulsive, yes. Pyscho, not really. A dude is not afraid to murk someone, yes. Pyscho, eh. Pyscho wouldn't wait to do CNC with a hostage and he cared a lot about her feelings from jump
🤔steam and dirty talk was good, but again, it felt safe and didn't really go as far as it could have
🤔some outer conflicts became a little montonous and pat, especially after a while it was quite repetitive
🤔the HEA wass nice, but it didn't seem to make sense for them as a couple

Hate when people write things that have absolutely nothing to support them,,as if the author thinks oh, that sounds good, like when she has her H thinking this woman he has carkacked/kidnapped is a puzzle hed like to solve is just random, weird and has no basis in reality because the only thing that's happened in the two seconds since he kidnapped/carjacked her is that she's afraid, which any sensible person would in that situation.

So again why the author wrote him thinking she was an interesting puzzle is just weird and has zero reason to it. The story and writing are just boring, I tried to stick with it because it's so short and sark reads are my fav but it was just too boring.

I didn't like that the author supposedly likes and writes dark romance but doesn't know anything about it, when she perpetuates here the wrongly held that people had to have been abused to like and have forced fantasies, by having her heroine here be abused by her uncle when she was 7. But in reality stuies show the vast majority of people enjoy forced fantasies and have had no history of abuse.

Also didn't like the authors blatant easy killing, like the border control guard who dud nothing, was just an innocent doing their job like anyome. I know this is just fiction but didnt like that the author has her characters killing people just doing their jobs so easily like this.

Tried another book by the author, called Stranded, but it was practucally this story just repeated, same theme of guy likes to wear masks, has the same rape fantasy, same gun sex play, same writing without much detail to it, the same words, phrases and dialogue used without variation. It's just this repeated. Got as far as the first sex scene in that book and gave up. It was boring, had no interest in continuing with it. Waste of time

Escaped convict Ash (H) comes upon Lila (h) whose car has a flat on a desolate Illinois roadway. She soon finds herself at the end of Ash’s gun barrel and a part of a dark adventure as escaped murderer Ash tries to elude authorities and make his way to a secret remote cabin in Montana. Lila soon finds herself on unwilling passenger of Ash’s dark cross country journey of violence, robberies, and murders, even as she experiences his equally dark sexual appetites and finds that she craves his touch. Ash comes to view Lila as more than just a means to aid his escape, and is determined to keep Lila forever, even as she struggles with the violence around, giving up her old life, and the darkness that Ash has awakened in her. Ultra-hot and steamy dark fugitive romance with murder, violence, dubcon/CNC, fear play, gun play, primal play, marking, praise, degradation, impact play, and more.

This has to be the dumbest, yet most hilarious thing I've read in a while. Not that it's meant to be funny, but I couldn't help constantly laughing at how ridiculous everything was. Holy shit, what a mess.

I devoured this book!
Only took me maybe 2-ish hours to read all the way through without stopping. Having a book that was always on the ball and not stopping with its intensity is great. The spice levels are up there too. This wasnt triggering for me but maybe some people will want to check the trigger warnings before reading. This was my first time reading selena winters and i'm looking forward to more!.

Audible - Let me start by saying the narrators/actors get an A-. They were good! Spice = 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

If you are in the mood for a book with a hardly believable plot, super-spicy triggering/kinky sex, jealous as all get out MMC this is the book for you! I’m not saying this is a bad book, but it’s like reading straight kinky porn. And you know what, sometimes, a nice short, very naughty book is just what the doctor ordered! Zero judgment here! 😉

0.5 🌟 it gets some sort of star rating bc i was actually able to finish it. this was one of the worst books i have read. i got this as a blind book and i severely regret it.
FMC need to stand up and look at herself- why are you getting stockholm syndrome within the first couple hours of being kidnapped!?!? MMC is psycho but it actually makes sense for the storyline 👎👎👎👎👎

Was this practical? Not in the slightest but I ate this up and left no crumbs.

You want something on the shorter side that is fast paced, spicy spicy, and unhinged MMC, dub con, and CNC? Say less and download.

Carjacked was pretty intense. *If you have any triggers, make sure you read the warnings before reading.*

An innocent woman is kidnapped by an escaped murderer on a dark, lonely road. Just having left her abusive boyfriend after an argument, a flat tire is the last thing she needs. Dressed for her parent’s’ anniversary party and no jack to change the tire, she discovers there’s also no cell service. Can her night get any worse?
Out of the dark, a man walks up and offers to change her tire. Afraid but feeling she has no other choice, she accepts his help. Yep, her night just got worse.
What follows is a wild ride of fear, murder, and taboo attraction. A novella that actually covers a lot of ground, Carjacked reads very quickly. Nonstop action and “forbidden” dominate sex propels the plot forward to an improbable happy ending.

Weak characters and wonky plot

No real character development beforehand. I don't really feel anything for either of them and doesn't seem like they would actually even fall for each other much less in less than a week.

Well, this wasn't my usual type of read and I probably won't read a book like it again. I just don't like books with criminals as the H unless they're in the mob. Obvey! Despite me hating this trope, the book was still ok. It was pretty smut-heavy and I felt like the plot was very rushed.

The h Lila was an idiot, I know this book is fiction but, she just made the stupidest decisions. Instead of calling for help or even trying to get help she just decided to accept her situation because he was hot, NEWSFLASH hot guys kill and torture too. Within 24 hours she was already sleeping with him and completely deserted her boyfriend, family, and overall normal life. Also if you decide you're going to go on the run with this guy stop wasting money on things. If you're going to be an accomplice, at least be a good one.

The H Ash was a piece of work. He didn't know why he liked Lila but was just suddenly drawn to her. He decided he was going to go on the run with her which ultimately just made his job way harder. Despite trying to go on the run and disappear he left a trail of dead bodies leading the cops to him. These cops have to be stupid to have not caught this dude. I don't want to spoil it but this guy is way too trusting for a criminal. He thinks everyone has his best interest at heart and keeps getting burned over it. The author never really delved into his previous crimes but supposedly murder and armed robbery. I would have liked to know why he committed these crimes. He pretty much just treats the h as his whore and I don't feel like he likes her that much. I think if they were in the real world relationship would last maybe 9 months.

Overall not my favorite read but the smut was good. You just shouldn't hope for any (good) plot or you'll be heavily disappointed.

Remember to check the TW/CW's before opening this. It may not be for you!

ABOUT:
FMC Lila accepts helps from MMC Ash but quickly regrets it.

THOUGHTS:
I ate this story up! I love stories that immediately dive into the action and thrill - I get sucked in so fast I pretty much devour the rest of the book. Again, if you are thinking of taking up this book, please check the author website for CW/TW's as stories such as these aren't for everyone. It's explicit, the MMC is no saint, and sometimes you may find yourself rooting for the red-flag MMC.

The story does have a few errors but nothing that threw me off enough to DNF. (Example: Lila mentioned Ash being an escapee, but she was never told prior to mentioning it.) There are also a few flat moments towards the middle, but again the story still had me hooked. FMC and MMC both battle their growing feelings for one another as the story progresses, and it hits the MMC hard. His character had a rough childhood, so he gets overwhelmed with these new feelings towards Lila.

One thing about the ending: As much as I like how sweet the ending is, I wish we could have gotten a better understanding of their new life and how Lila incorporates her parents into it. Do they know about Ashton? Will she tell them? I know this is just a simple story, but I am super curious!

Ends in HEA.

The criminal. The psychopath. The kid who they couldn’t control. I’ve raged against society all my life. No. There’s no changing who I am.

Simply being in the wrong place at the unfortunately wrong time can be enough to permanently alter somebody's life. Whether for good or bad, Lila finds herself with a flat tire and nowhere to go, when suddenly a rugged stranger appears and helps her with the tire. Fuming at her boyfriend and his uselessness, she's terrified and thrilled when he pulls gun on her and forces her to begin driving him across the country. Ashton (Ash) Williams is wanted after escaping during transportation to a prison sentence revolving around multiple murders and armed robberies. With a taste of freedom too sweet to pass up, he finds himself rather quickly falling for the innocence and darkness hidden within Lila. On the run from the law, she watched him commit several murders on both her behalf and just for his freedom to not be exposed. Tasked with a four day journey to his father Liam's cabin in the forest, he's shocked to learn the father be lived dead for thirty years is in fact alive and well. Heavy with guilt after abandoning his son, he wants to make things right and offers them the coordinates to his cabin in Alaska. Unfortunately, they would be stopped at the border and Liam would suffer a fatal shot to his chest. Alone with Lila, they look forward to the future together as each is falling more in love with the other. After a year together hidden, she's a blogger and he keeps mostly to himself. Unable to live without the other now, she accepts his engagement and together continue this thrilling life.

My dirty starlight. That’s what she is. The light to my dark. The balm to my wounds.

My first Selena Winters book! Carjacked is a gritty dark romance where Lila finds herself quite literally carjacked by Ash, an escaped convict with a bounty on his head, previously incarcerated for homicide and robbery. She really shouldn't be attracted to him, but she is. Undeniably so. The best part: He can't take his eyes off her, his Starlight.

Tropes, Triggers, & Kinks include:
-Primal
-CNC
-Bondage
-He's pierced down there (multiple piercings)
-Mention of past childhood SA
-Death of a parent
-Murder (explicitly so, many times over)
-Captive romance
-"You're mine."
-Touch her and die (or just glance in her direction and die)
-The nickname "Starlight"

Having never read any of her work before, I was over the moon with how easy it is to read Selena Winter's writing. Her story telling is simple, straightforward, and to-the-point, just how a standalone dark romance novel should be. I love that none of her works are interconnected; they are true standalones. If you need a quick dark romance read, one that still sucks you into their world and gives you character development and plot with ALL THE SPICE, then this author is one I'd highly recommend.

I will most definitely end up reading more of her work, and I will probably squeal just as much as I did with Carjacked every single time.

I wanted this to be better, but it fell a little flat. I got hooked to this genre from another Selena Winters book, and now I'm reading it like crazy and can't stop, even though I know it's wrong. I don't care. It's so wrong that it's good. Just the way I like it.

The synopsis promises so many things but the story doesn't deliver quite what I wanted. After reading some of the reviews, I feel like that's a pretty common complaint. It went through the motions but didn't get there. Our main guy ended up being more of a off the wall weirdo than that sexy psychopath we wanted. There wasn't much more to the plot than them .

I do appreciate that this author gives her characters a reason for the way they are the way they are, and it's not just, "I'm mentally ill." A lot of people are mentally ill (like millions and millions), and they don't do this stuff. No, there's a mixture of trauma, personality disorders, mental illness, and a series of events that leads up to how the character behaves, and I really appreciate that. People don't automatically become dark killers by one thing. If that were the case, this world would be craaaaaazy. I appreciate this author giving some adequate background, and I like that she gives background for the female character on why they are drawn to this type of man. Kudos.

Review: This was not my favorite book by Selena Winters... BECAUSE it was very backwards in my eye. Or more so it wasn't what she normally writes. (Is that a bad thing? no not at all its more just not what I wanted. From the start they were on the run and it wasnt so much that he was obsessed with her in the way the other books normally have them obsessed with the MC he was an actual active criminal. It eventually turned into a HEA situation but you never learn what happen with the boy friend or the family and they were just okay with her disappearing. still a fine book but wasn't my favorite by any means IMO.

It my first time reading Selena Winters book and I loved it because it was an impressive and crazy journey that brought two people together to fall in love. This was so amazing. So emotional and just...what a ride! Literally. They are both likable despite his tendencies. And it is quite a lot to handle, heed triggers! He does unforgivable things and yet this story is haunting and romantic.

He takes her and realizes she has made a light in him. He can never let her go.

I understand he did unforgettable and unforgivable things. I really do. But their connection. More than just very, very heated moments. There is an honest and real connection between them. They are both lost inside and despite the terror that they go through and he helps to create, there is just something so beautiful and right about them. They found solace and comfort in one another. That is hard to find. The world is kind and can also be so cruel and lonely. I wish he didn't go to some extremes but regardless, this was something else. Like I said previously, hauntingly beautiful. The steam is high and theirs is a complicated love story. His past coming back that way just made it more real. A crazy story but wonderful.

This book is a very dark love story. Triggers for violence, mask play, gun play and murder.

This story is about a young woman named Lila. She breaks down on the side of the road. She gets helped by a guy named Ash. He is a guy who has been in prison for crimes that he has committed. He escapes and he sees Lila. He kidnaps her because he needs her car 🚘. He goes on the run with Lila. Lila was with her boyfriend who wasn’t a nice guy. Lila is taken by Ash who is a very dark and brooding convict. He ends up committing murder while on the run with Lila. She is a witness to one of the murders he commits. He also does robberies along the way. Lila begins to fall for Ash along the way. This story has primal play, gun play used during sex and mask play. Ash and Lila get to this cabin in which he finds his father who he thought was dead. Ash and Lila have to go on the run together again. They end up in Alaska where they end up living in a chalet. Ash and Lila do primal play together and she is working on doing a blog online that she is enjoying. Ash does not go into town with her for fear of being found out. i didn't like Ash's dirty talk which i found terrible. i did like their love story even though it was dark.

How am I going to put this so that I don't say that I completely hate it, because I don't... but I definitely am not a huge fan of just how fast it all got put together. First things first, I am normally a HUGE fan of Selena Winters. Her Carnival Series is to me, by far, my favorite out of all of them and I think it has to do with the length of all stories working together. Because none of it feels... as rushed, as some of these standalones have felt. I wish I could put in more praise for this but I just am not as big of a fan.

With that note aside, I'm going to reiterate that everything in this book feels rushed and forced. The general outline and concept of it is great! Seriously, it has potential. And I feel like if it had gotten more in depth with the two main characters, instead of it being an automatic "She's MINE" moment followed up by *boom*detail*boom*detail*BOOM* MORE DETAILS and then followed up by s*xy time (always a fan of a good time but again, it was rushed and harried and they didn't all feel like it was right for the moments).

All in all, it was a fun, albeit very *short* read (I finished one book just a few hours ago, started this one immediately after reviewing the other and now I'm here, reviewing this one already).

Well... oh how I love Ash and Lila 😍

I really enjoyed reading this one, the conflict and confusion about feelings that the both have is described amazing.

“Look at these stars,” I tell her. “They’re like diamonds scattered across the sky. And just like these diamonds, you’re my most precious possession.”

Ash might be a mortally gray man, who's lust to unalive is constant but hey who doesn't want a touch her and be unalived man 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love love his nickname for her "my starlight" and all the quotes it come along with

“Because underneath all that fury, that pain you wield like a weapon,” she whispers, “there’s a heart that beats with the same ferocity with which you push the world away. Let me in. Even the darkness needs its starlight, right?”

You can really feel the push and pull of the emotions that both Ash and Lila go through.

My only question... Will there be more from them and their new lives?!

Wow….that went from 0 to 100 at a blink of an eye!

When Lila breaks down on the side of the road Ash knows he’s in luck.
Lila is now Ash’s getaway driver.
Ash has always known he’s been a psychopath, a killer but he’s never been attached. Lila is supposed to be a means to an end.
But the more time they spend together it becomes clear they are drawn together.
Ash is the darkness and Lila is his starlight.

*please do check the trigger warnings before reading, this book covers a lot of dark topics*

Holy moly, I’m still picking my jaw up from the floor. This was faced paced and really went from 0-100 in a blink.

Ash is a full on psychopath, all kinds of messed up and does some seriously crazy things! But there is something about him I liked and I can see why Lila fell for him.
I liked Lila too and I’m pleased she got the chance to get away from her boyfriend despite the shocking circumstances of it.

A truly dark hitchhiker romance but it was something new and I loved it and the happily ever after they got.

Synopsis
FMC Lila is on her way to celebrate her parent’s 30th anniversary sans her boyfriend who treats her terribly. She gets a flat tire but doesn’t have a jack and her phone doesn’t have service. A hooded man happens to be there and helps her change her tire.

MMC Ash is a wanted fugitive. After he changes Lila’s tire, he forces her to drive at gunpoint. All he needed was a car but he is instantly attracted to her and desires to stake his claim, so he takes her along for a cross country journey.

Despite seeing Ash’s darkness first hand, Lila is intrigued.

Review
There were lots of variables that could have had the plot go in different directions but only so much can be explored in a novella. Although it was a short story, there were some surprises. It was entertaining, a quick and spicy read with. HEA.

Story: ⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
TWs: ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Plot:
Ash is an escaped convict trying to flee the state. He kidnaps Lila as a cover story. The cops are looking for a single man. He shouldn’t be too noticeable if he travels in a couple, right? From the moment Ash and Lila meet, they share an attraction that results in steamy scenes and an HEA ending.

My Thoughts:
I wanted to like this one, but it just didn't work for me.

Here's a quickie review without spoilers: The pacing was too fast and Ash was WAY too much. I like my psycho book boyfriends murdery, not rapey.

Here's what I liked: The writing was decent. A few issues, but nothing too distracting. The story was captivating from start to finish. It was intense, in a good way. A lot of the spicy scenes were hot. Not all of them. I'm sorry, but I will never think gun-play is sexy. Never. Certainly not with someone like Ash. Hard pass. Overall, though, the smut was pretty smutty.

I had a much longer review planned, but I opted not to post it. Most of the reviewers here enjoyed this read. I encourage you to give it a try. It didn't work for me, but it might work for you. ❤️
