A copycat killer is recreating Jamie's old cases, and the victims are all too familiar ...When bodies are discovered in the open, the killings seeking to reenact Jamie's previous investigations, the team picks up the trail. A single killer is working from the shadows with ruthless efficiency, claiming victims before Jamie can even take a breath. But what's his endgame and what message is he trying to send?
As Jamie starts to close in on the culprit, she begins to buckle under the weight of her own career. The monsters she's worked so hard to lock away are clawing their way out, and as the bodies start piling up, the team is pushed to their breaking point. A devious mind is working to divide them, to get Jamie on her own. To get her in the open. To make his final move.
But when the hammer finally drops, what then? Who is this mysterious puppeteer pulling all of their strings, and why is Jamie squarely in his crosshairs? Finding the killer won't be easy, and Jamie will have to retrace her own steps, peeling back the layers of her own life to see where she put a foot wrong, where she went too far, and where she made the mistake that's come back to haunt her. The problem is ... there's lots of them, and the list of people with an axe to grind isn't short. But who among Jamie's collars, catches, and kills is the one she wants, and will she be able to find them ... before they find her?

The Devil In The Dark is the fourth pulse-pounding instalment of the Jamie Johansson Files series. With the dust finally settling on their previous case, the team are pulled back into the fray and forced to confront not only the evil outside their door, but also that which lurks within them. Perfect for new and existing fans of the Jamie Johansson novels, as well as fans of Simon McCleave, DS Butler, and Angela Marsons.
Morgan Greene grew up in Wales, and works a copywriter, editor, and author. Morgan studied Creative Writing and English Literature at Swansea University with a focus on narrative structure and theory, and published the first crime novel in the Jamie Johansson series in 2020. Since its release, the series has gone on to reach bestseller status, with Detective Jamie Johansson quickly becoming a reader favourite.
The series blends classic Scandi-noir elements with modern and cinematic thriller writing to create a unique style that adds to the emerging Brit-noir genre. Jamie has many novels ahead of her, but Morgan is also working on a variety of other projects across crime, thriller, and mystery and plans to publish plenty more in 2022 and beyond.
After a hiatus, I am back to read more of the Jamie Johansson series by Morgan Greene. This is a collection of thrillers that have always been able to attract my attention. Not only does the reader see the protagonist’s development, but also a shift from settings mirrors the personal journeys the author has taken as he crafted the stories. Jamie is back in Wales and trying to make sense of her life, but is interrupted when a number of crimes catch her attention. The odd thing is that the victims are all blonde with double-J names, which would be enough, but the crimes parallel past cases Jamie worked. Committed to discovering who is at the root of it all, Jamie and her partner trek across the UK to follow a killer and their craft! A great return for Greene in a series that never fails to impress!
Jamie Johansson has settled into her life with an adopted daughter and Wales as her backdrop. Her police career has seen her live and work all over, something she hopes to show Alina as they travel around Wales, the UK, and even Sweden. However, a crime spree back in the UK catches Jamie’s attention and brings her home. The victims, blonde and youthful, are also tagged with double-J names. If this were not enough, each murder resembles that of a past case Jamie worked. A serial killer who is mocking and targeting her from afar.
Armed with her determination, Alina, and a partner who wants to help, Jamie and Nasir Hassan begin the investigation into the killings. A taunting clue left at the scene sheds some light onto what’s happening. There is no doubt Jamie is being personally targeted and mocked at the same time.
While working with clues and trying to keep Alina safe, Jamie soon wonders just how far the killer will go to copy her past cases and from where might they be getting all the details to replicate. As the case gains momentum, the truth begins to appear and it is clear that Jamie has a great deal at stake. Still, she is baffled about the attention to detail and the almost baiting that the killer seems eager to. Present.
With the killer lurking the in shadows, Jamie and those around her will have to watch their backs. It is the revelation that more people from her past might be involved, leaving Jamie feeling all the more vulnerable. A great addition to the series that proves why I enjoy Morgan Greene’s work so much.
The Jamie Johansson series has progressed a great deal since I started it years ago. Greene has crafted a great series that exemplifies the progression of the protagonist through a number of major life events. The narrative works well and builds momentum, while ushering the reader along. As tensions mount, the story reaches its climax and leaves the reader glued to the page. Great characters provide needed development to find new angles to their impact on the larger series. Greene’s use of a number of characters that have crossed Jamie Johansson’s path before provide more entertainment for those who have read the series from its inception. Plot point build and leave the reader eager to follow the story throughout the twists and turns. I could not get enough and find myself reading for long periods to find some form of resolution for this great thriller. I cannot wait to see where things are headed next for Jamie.
Kudos, Mr. Greene, for a great addition to a series that has always impressed me.
I honestly can't get my hands on these faster enough. My library only gets the series, slowly. So I'm behind on the series or I would have finished the series by now.
This series is soooo good, each book gets better than the last!
i’ve loved the first 10 of the jamie johansson books but the ones set in wales haven’t been my favourite as i’ve not enjoyed the overall plot in general
i felt the same about this one and thought i wont bother reading the next one but after the ending… yes i will be reading the next book
The latest Jamie Johansson book continues her life back in the UK. This time facing her lookalikes being murdered in the style of her previous cases.
This story is personal for Jamie and it brings out some of her insecurities as her life slightly falls apart.
Less of a rollercoaster (especially in the first half) and less violent than some of her of previous Welsh based adventures, before having to pull all her resources to solve the murders. And her old life comes together at the very end much more than Jamie expects.
Although the killer is known by the end of the story it is part of an ongoing arc, which is slightly frustrating as there are quite a number of loose ends left to continue in the next book. Unfortunately there is a longer wait than in previous books in the series as the new book is not due until April. I look forward to that book with anticipation and it gives me time to catch up on the previous books set in London & Sweden
A great creepy novel! I enjoyed meeting Jamie and her team again! Alina is a brilliant addition and develops into a brilliant little person! A compelling plot reminding the reader of how thrilling Jamie's investigations have been... Shame that the novel is so short, though. I would have loved more time with Jamie and her friends! Thank you, Morgan, for letting me read your novel as an ARC. I definitely can't wait for Jamie's next murder(s) investigation!
Book 4 in the Jamie Johansson Files Series and another fabulous read. I love all the Jamie books so much. She’s a really strong and brave character but we are starting to see a bit of a softer side creeping in as the series continue. This time, with Jamie, Hassan, Elliott and Alina still living in the remote property in Wales, Jamie is notified about a killer who is recreating victims from cases she solved but the rub is they all look like Jamie and have the initials JJ. Then Elliott disappears. This would read as a stand-alone but I definitely recommend reading the previous books for background as there are ongoing threads.
Briefly, it soon becomes clear that the killer is taunting them and you begin to see the cracks in Jamie’s armour as she see’s each victim. It seems the killer is always one step ahead of them and with Elliott still missing Jamie is torn in two. Does she look for Elliott or the killer?
I haven’t checked but this seemed shorter than previous books, either that or I raced through it faster than normal- a one sitting read! Not as violent as some previous books but I liked that, much more an investigative story. I’m loving how Alina’s character is evolving, she’s nearly as sassy as Jamie! The plot is excellent and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the reveal. As for the ending - I certainly didn’t expect that and how exciting (sorry can’t say, spoilers!) but what a cliffhanger! I need the next book now.
Thank you, Morgan Green, for an advanced copy of ‘The devil in the dark’. The next instalment in the Jamie Johansson files series. There is a copy kat serial killer on the loose and the bodies that turn up are reenacted in the say way that Jamie has investigated previously, and they also have a striking resemblance to her. Jamie is pushed to the limit to find the killer, but more bodies turn up before she can take a breath. The killer is being personal and not only estimating her but her friends around her so much that she then eventually decides to go it alone.
There is also another problem. After discovering what’s going on, Elliot day has seemed to have gone missing.
This is another nonstop action-packed thriller from Morgan Green that I devoured in 24 hours. I couldn’t put this down, so much that I kept reading in the small hours of the morning. Another brilliant instalment. I can’t wait for the next one.
Many thanks to the author as ever for the advanced reader copy of this book
The Devil in the dark is the latest installment in the Jamie Johansson series and as always it did not disappoint!
I have followed Jamie from the very beginning and have loved watching how her character has grown throughout the series. In this book we see the return of some familiar faces which I was thrilled about.
As ever there's plenty of action with a fast paced plot, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough as I just had to know how it was all going to end-there is one scene in particular that I don't think will ever leave me, I could practically feel myself within it and it almost took my breath away!
Well done Morgan on writing another cracker, I've very much enjoyed seeing your writing grow with each new book you've written, you should feel extremely proud of yourself.
Jamie has faced some harrowing cases in her time, and now they're happening again, but this time.. the victims look like her and have her initials.
A really interesting concept! The threat feels very real throughout. This book has excellent pace and I was always looking forward to picking it up again.
For me, I did find the ending a little flat. I suppose this book is more set up for the stories to come rather than a satisfying open and closed case in one book. I'd have liked a bit more in the way of a twist and for there to be a satisfying comeuppance to our perp at the end. However, saying that, I am REALLY excited for the next installment so it has done it's job as a book which keeps me hooked in this series.
I also really loved the return of some older faces! I can't wait to find out how they all gel in the next book.

The last book series which changed life as I knew it was more than five years ago. There had been none since, until Jamie. My addiction has kicked in again.
Dogs, thankfully conducive to snoozing for as long as it takes, understand why breakfasts in bed take forever and the light of an ipad screen often stays on beyond midnight.
Appointments have flirted with being forgotten, meetings with friends have almost been missed. Just one more chapter, page. Unputdownable.
And yet, I would be happy to leave my neck in this noose - suffering when Jamie misses the next chance to be happy yet keen that she doesn't - if that keeps her adventures coming.
Sorry no actual references here to characters or stories - far too many spoilers. Just trust me, start at the beginning, and hold on tight.
Wow, that was amazing. Someone is killing blonde women who bear an uncanny resemblance to Jamie. All crime scenes match investigations Jamie had solved and all the women have the initials JJ. Creepy or what?
I found this unputdownable. Jamie and Hassan seem totally on the back foot throughout as they are being toyed with. Elliott has also gone missing which is making things even worse. I found the tension palpable all the way through and I felt so scared for Jamie, Hassan and Alina. Good to see Alina becoming a nice sassy teenager bringing a hint of normality to a situation which is anything but. Some interesting visitors at the end leaves things dangling nicely for the next book. Unfortunately that is a long way off but what a way to keep us hanging.
I was so excited when the ARC came through for this one. Thank you Morgan. If you have read any of the Jamie books, then you know you're going to be biting those nails! Just like Morgans previous books this one does not disappoint. You have action, plot, thriller all packed into The Devil in the Dark. So we see jamie trying to figure out what is happening. There seems to be a copy cat about, copying her investigations. Problem is Jamie and Hasson are always a step behind. To add to this, Ellot is missing! I absolutely love Jamie, and Morgan has done wonders with her character and that's of the other characters. If I could give more 🌟 I would. This series and book are not to missed. EXCELLENT
This is the 14th Jamie book I've read and each book is better than the last. I encourage all of you to start with Bare Skin and keep reading until you read The Devil in the Dark, you won't regret it. As usual Jamie is dumped into chaos and death and fights the good fight. There is a hard cliffhanger here with murderers running amuck and a gathering of people around Jamie that is going to get CRAZY but I'm so excited to see how they all work out the craziness and catch the serial killers in their midst!! Great book Morgan, can't wait for The First Snow of Winter next year. 👍
I’ve just finished my ARC of this and wow wow wow, this is the best one yet. What a ride, I won’t give anything away because that would ruin it but it was a brilliant read and unputdownable. The way it has been woven together in this chapter of Jamie’s life is very skilled and the character interaction was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this and didn’t want it to end but I’m also excited for the next one. Morgan has an amazing talent and if you haven’t experienced it yet, start from the beginning. If you have experienced it, you already know how good his writing is. Enjoy
After reading every book in the Jamie Johansson series, this book was hard to put down!
I've really enjoyed this series and after 14 books, it definetly still has legs. Each book reveals a different side to the main character Jamie and this story had me on the edge of my seat.
In this book we follow Jamie as she tries to catch a serial killer whose recreating her previous cases. For the first time we see Jamie facing a foe who will stop at nothing.
The ending of the book set the next book up perfectly and I can't wait for the next one in the series.
I've read all of Jamie's books, every one of them awesome in their story telling and plots, the characters rich and working in cohesion with Jamie. This story though is completely mind blowing. Think of a white knuckle ride and you're on the right track. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough and didn't want to put the book down. Then right at the end there's a surprise that you don't see coming ! Awesome story telling from a truly talented author. Bravo Mr Greene
If you only buy one book this year then make sure it's this one.
Read this book in under 24 hours, I was completely hooked!
It follows a serial killer who is remaking all the investigations Jamie has solved in the past 10 books - it is a nice reminder of the storylines I'd read previously and why I came to love this series in the first place!
And the ending... Very exciting to see another character from Jamie's past return, so I will definitely be reading the next book!
Wow I have loved all your books but this was brilliant definitely worth reading I love that you have brought Jamie to South Wales being from the area it's nice to be able to relate to the area's. I look forward to the next book even though it is a bit of a wait I am sure it will be worth the wait. On a different note it's nice to read you have come back home, good luck
Stupid. Especially how Jamie and Hassan literally killed Jillian Jones. Why she didn’t let cops stop the killer and waited 50 minutes for them? Why walk into the scene just two of them? Why not pay attention to the around and approached Jillian? Don’t know what writer was thinking when he wrote this book. Waste of my time.

I have been waiting ages for this! This book was amazing… it kept me on my toes from the beginning. Morgan Greene- you outdid yourself with this one. Learning the truth about Elliot and Jamie was so enlightening and put so many puzzle pieces together. AND THE END!!!! Omg I need the next book immediately!!
I have read every book in this series and they just seem to get better and better have just pre ordered book twelve can't wait to read it but it's a long time to go
I have stuck with these stories and I probably will carry on. I do have an issue with Jamie and the amount of injuries etc she has sustained, however in this one we seemed to see a bit of a human side to her and the gung ho character she has been in the past. It was also good to be reminded of some of the past stories and have a mini recap. I know from reading the author's story it could be sometime before we get a follow up.
