We expend massive amounts of energy in pursuit of perfection. If only we could never make mistakes or encounter unpleasant obstacles, oh, wouldn't life be just perfect? Maybe, but it would also be static, unfulfilling, and really, really boring. Humorist Lisa Sugarman knows that life is a work in progress. She knows what we all suspect—life is at its best when it's fluid, unpredictable, and gloriously imperfect. And if this means life sometimes turns ugly and unpleasant, it only makes the good times that much sweeter. Author of opinion column It Is What It Is , Lisa embraces reality, not perfection. We're supposed to be imperfect. We're meant to screw up, make bad decisions, and lose our way. We can't control everything that life throws at us, but we can control how we react to it. With the right attitude and a little guidance from Lisa, anyone can be happy and fulfilled most of the time. Her collection of funny, inspiring, and sometimes poignant columns reminds us that life is not a straight line, even on the best of days, and it's the twists in the road which make the journey so beautiful.
This is a collection of essays about life. Lisa Sugarman manages to make just about everything amusing, even school board meetings.
These essays are about things like being nice to nice people, what it is like to get around (or not) in a cast, getting ready to send your kids back to school, your kids growing up(taking the drivers test), and dealing with holidays.
All of them were interesting and some actually made me laugh.
A few of them even made me think which is something that doesn't always happen in the busyness of getting things done(that's how the things end up in the fridge that don't go there- and then you end up hunting all over the house for them, and feeling really stupid when you finally find it).
It felt like my dearest friend was telling me some very amusing anecdotes over a cup of tea (okay a glass of wine or margarita).
Her book is an easy read for anyone looking for some inspiration in their lives. You can read a column in bursts as you have time or you can do like I did and binge read the entire book as quickly as you can turn the page. She reminds us that life is far from perfect, plans don’t always work the way you want them to, but anyone can be happy if you just remember to look for the humor in your life.
Life, It is What It Is, delivers an enjoyable and fun read. Author, Lisa Sugarman, is living a busy and full life and sharing her experiences that Mom's everywhere face and can relate to. I highly recommend this book! It's nice to know that as a mom, I feel like I have a compadre!
