Okay, some background information...

My girl and I had a shitty week. Our jobs kicked both our asses, and we felt pretty damn down about it. We needed a pick-me-up, and she jokingly suggested a mutual session of wine, chocolate and romance novels. Being a dude who is up for just about anything (exceptions made for incest, folk-dances and voting for Donald Trump) I said "sure, why not".

We had a lot of fun; we drank box wine, we ate cheap chocolate and we each picked a romance novel we found for free on Amazon. She picked a terribad paranormal romance, the name of which escapes me just now. It involved werewolves which smelled like apple pie...no, I'm not making that up.

Anyhow, I picked Call Me Cat as my novel of choice. After all was said and done I was left thinking my girl got the better end of the deal. At least hers was bad in a funny way. Cat was bad in a way which wasn't funny; in fact it left me very much annoyed.

First off, I have a confession; I don't read NA romance, but I am Goodreads friends with a lot of people who do, so I see their reviews of other books. So I hear all the complaints about cliches...and let me tell you, Cat apparently hits all of them, and in the worst way. The protagonist is:

-A: an orphan
-B: stalked by the killer of her parents
-C: driven to sex work by financial necessity and she hates it (more on that in a moment)
-D: randomly noticed by a hot rich dude
-E: stalked by said rich dude
-F: Annoying and insipid

It should be noted that Ritchie Rich is also a 'bad boy biker'. Because when it comes to trope-dope, why not mix your drugs...I mean shit, two highs at once, what could possibly go wrong?

Okay. First off, I could not stand how sex work was handled here. I'll admit to some personal bias as I have (and do) count actual sex workers (strippers, fetish models, BDSM practitioners, and yes...even -gasp- former prostitutes) as good friends, but even so...the moral condemnation of the trade I saw here left me ready to hark. Leaving aside how "good girl forced into the sex trade" has become an NA cliche, I have to state... NOT ALL SEX WORKERS HATE THEIR JOBS. Sex work is like any other work...and guess what, some people find their true calling in the field. If you can't parse how this can happen, perhaps you've got an overly moral view on the subject.

ANYHOW, personal rant over.

What I just spoke on is a big issue with Cat, because the heroine's employers treat her fairly and even give her time off when she asks for it...hell, her employer is another woman and gives her the time off while saying "us girls need to stick together". The heroine accepts this without much comment at all. She continues hating her job as a phone sex operator and feels shitty about it, despite her employers being reasonable people and the clients not overstepping the boundaries of what she does.

Until the hero calls her, and then well hell, that's different.

To be fair, Our douch-ahem, hero calling her phone sex number (and her talking to him despite knowing who he was) did result in one of the few scenes I actually enjoyed, so I can't hate this too much. After the "hero" finished with his "I'mma act the asshat" opening routine the H and the h did exchange some pretty good dialogue. Honestly, that scene kept me reading long after I wanted to quit the book.

Unfortunately, it got worse from there.

The stalker mystery involving Catelyn's parents was tacked-on, her financial woes felt contrived, her friendship with a rich girl was unnecessary...and oh yeah, why the hell did she have to be a virgin?

Between the stodgy moralizing and the confusing plot, this book exceeded the limits of my medication round about 50%. Your mileage may vary.

In the end I'm giving this 1.5 stars because I saw a lot of potential in the premise and once in a while this story had its moments. Otherwise, blech. If you can read it for free, might be you'll have some fun...I recommend drinking a lot of wine first, though.

Not for me. There was too much of everything and not enough good solid story. I picked this up thinking I'd try something different, a little more sex than usual for me but it sounded intriguing. I was wrong. There was some (phone) sex but a lot of it was about weird fetishes and I'm just not into that. And I have to say the errors were a turn off, not sure I've even been "week at the knees". There was mystery, sex, religion, 'love', friendship, odd characters and just not much that felt real. I won't be reading the next book in the series, despite the huge cliff hanger (that also irritated me).

I received this one for free from Amazon. I wasn't really sure what to expect but I was definitely surprised with the way it went. I wasn't expecting the suspense or murder mystery. Catelyn watched her parents being murdered and raped but she got to the phone before the murderer could hurt her. The murderer got away. Now years later she is still being stalked by said murderer since he sends her letters ever year on the anniversary. But this time he takes it further when he lets it be known he is coming for her. . .

On top of this Cat starts a new job as a phone sex operator to get extra money. For a virgin with no experience she found it a challenge and "dirty" but she has no choice because she can't drop out of law school.

On top of that Catelyn meets a sexy mysterious bad boy billionaire (cliche right?) named Ash. Honestly Catelyn was a bitch to him so much I was surprised he even pursued her. But he did. Until one night Cat gets a call on her sex line and the guys name is Ash. Her Ash. The hot guy she is lusting after. And Ash starts having a thing with "Cat" the phone sex operator. . . he has no clue it's the same woman he is pursuing.

As Catelyn continues to push Ash away, she doesn't want to drag him into her life, he gets closer to her alter ego phone sex operator "Cat".

And the murdered only get's closer and closer. . .

Overall, I thought the overall story was okay. I liked it and thought it was written well. I don't know what it was, but I just didn't feel Ash and Catelyn's connection. . . at all. Then the ending left us with a cliffhanger making us think someone is not who we thought them to be. I think for a romantic suspense everything was a little dull. I never was on the edge of my seat. It just felt a little anticlimactic. But, I will be checking out book two to see who the "real" murderer is (though I have an idea already) and to see how these characters lives play out. For free, this definitely was a steal!

Teetering between 3.0-3.5 stars. This series is romantic suspense/mystery. When I read the description of Ash as being a bad boy billionaire biker, I was intrigued and wanted to read about him. I do like Catelyn, but there are some bits where she is immature. Since she is 22 yrs old, I guess it is to be expected. The mystery of the murderer/killer is pretty good. I have moved on to the next book in the series to get more answers. I keep feeling like this book could have been elevated to a higher level, but where shall see where the author takes us in the next two books!

Free Amazon read-- do I read anything else lately?? Anyhow, this was my first by this author, and I both enjoyed this book, while also feeling somewhat misled. Spoiler alert: this book is not really about Catelyn and her career as a phone sex operator. That happens, yes, but the book is really about the murder of Catelyn's parents and the fact that their killer is still harassing Catelyn after all this time. Not really what I was going for when I read the blurb, even if I was essentially intrigued enough to finish this book and move on to the next. Besides the issue of being pulled in to reading the book thinking it was about one funny/sexy dilemma and then finding out it was really more of a horror/scary/sexy one, I felt like there could've been much less dissemination of "suspects" on the author's part. Why does absolutely everyone have to be a suspect? And if Catelyn is unsure/suspicious of Ash, why would she date him? There are so many red flag characters, I imagine there will end up being like about 10 killers, not 1. There's already more than one; crazy coffee guy Lucky kidnapped Catelyn for some reason not to be shared (and it wasn't that much of a shocker because he popped up literally everywhere Catelyn went, yet she didn't seem to find that odd or creepy... um, hello?!?), yet here we are at the end of the book, still getting dumb letter from the "Midnight Murderer". Yes, the name is also pretty lame. So, based on behavior, as I said, the amount of potential guilty people is pretty damn long. Creepy Davenport brother Jon (with ZERO personality except to be shifty). Check. Detective Gray, whose apathy precludes one who wants to keep the facts under wraps until it's something he can spin his way. Check. "BFF" Bridgette. Hmmm... there is something majorly off about this girl. She's a secret sister, or Catelyn's mom diddled her dad and she hates Catelyn because of it. Who knows at this point. She's suspicious. The professor of Catelyn's that has so many intimate tidbits about her deceased mother. Check. Ash with the secretive criminal history, of which Catelyn's mom was the DA. Check. Ash and BFF's parents... the list goes on. Can't a girl just get a fun, light-hearted read about a phone sex operator?? My brain hurts.

I have read quite a few Karpov Kinrade books. They are one of my faves and I have always enjoyed their books. Starting this book I was immediately drawn into the story because of these four little words: “bad boy biker billionaire.” I think these four words may be my favorite four-word phrase of all time. They are even better than “all you can eat”, “reach for the stars”, “you only live once” and so much better than “no pain, no gain.”

Catelyn Travis is a hard on her luck, struggling law student. Seven years ago, when Catelyn was fifteen, her parents were murdered in front of her. She runs into sexy Ash (Ashton Benjamin Davenport the Third).  “His voice was hot and cold and sent a shiver through me.” Even though she is virginal and naive she is so desperate for money to survive, that she starts working as a phone sex operator.

This book is a fast read. It is funny, erotic and suspenseful. I liked Catelyn, “Cat” and Ash a lot. “Perhaps we're all broken souls wandering this life looking for something that will make us whole." The pacing is good and the murder mystery aspects are very intriguing and scary. The phone sex between Cat and Ash is very very hot and steamy. This book ends on a cliffhanger and I am super excited to read the next installment. 5 stars.

Honestly I give this book 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed it, but it's not quite a 4 star read...I try to be fair with my stars.

On to the review-I downloaded this book because it was listed in one of the freebie/cheap reads discussions, not really expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. The main character Catelyn is in law school at Harvard and really struggling financially. She has no help because her parents were brutally murdered when she was a teen. To bring in some extra cash she decides to work at a phone sex operator. Add in the fact that her parents' killer keeps contacting her and a hot boy and you've got a great read. There are some things I rolled my eyes at but overall I like this one enough to want to pay for the next two parts. I've got some suspicions and I need to find out how things pan out.

Bottom line: I recommend and it's free so why not??

DNF@10%. The first sentence disagreed tense-wise with the rest of the writing which was a pretty shoddy start. The heroine was an uppity little prig who considered it entirely her right to be condescending to a police detective who really did nothing other than be realistic - BLAH BLAH BLAH HARVARD LAW SCHOOL BLAH BLAH BLAH as if that's the be all and end all and somehow makes her superior to all the peasants. She has no money at all but still finds time to go on dates, money to eat out despite her supposed diet of pure ramen noodles, has evidently not bothered to look for a job before and is instantly bereft by the idea of not seeing an attractive guy again despite 1) having only seen him for about two seconds and 2) being almost destitute which you'd think would be a more pressing concern. UGH. Over and out.

This book totally threw me for a loop because it's rare that I read a novel with so much suspense. It was almost as if it were a suspense novel with romance mixed in but I really enjoy the whole 'rich boy, poor girl' scenario. I'm totally impressed with the storyline and the progress because it was so unexpected, especially going into the next book and all I can think about is "Who killed Catelyn's parents and who's trying to kill her too???" When a book peaks my interest and makes me want to find out what happens next, it's an automatic 5 stars. Thanks Ms. Karpov Kinrade!

This is a romantic suspense novel that features Catelyn, a poor law student. After a devastating break in, she is forced to raise funds by taking an extra job as a phone sex operator. Knowing little about sex, she studies up to deal with her clients' sexual fantasies. One of them is Ashton Davenport, a wealthy bad boy biker. She has come across him in her daily life as well. Does Ash suspect that Cat is Catelyn? When their phone romance gets too cozy, will she be able to explain without losing the man? The first in a trilogy (of course), the ending is a cliff hanger. What next for Cat?

This book is part of a series. I really don't have the energy to do another series. It was okay. It was a quick read, and didn't suck. I just don't understand why Catelyn would be ashamed of being a phone sex operator. Hey, sometimes you do what ya gotta do to get by. If her dream of becoming an attorney is bigger than her fear of phone sex...what is the problem?

**This book was free on amazon**

When I first starting reading this book I was like finally a book that's going to be different. And it was somewhat. This story was written in first person for the majority of the story. Then out of no where you get a third person view. Then that's the ONLY third person view. Also, there were a few Twilight references, but not Twilight references if you know what I mean? They go on to talk about the magnetic pull between the two. And something that I couldn't look past was the typos. In the beginning there were no typos. After about midway into the book the typos were very frequent. Don't get me wrong, not every one is a Grammar genius, but that's why the book should be edited , re-edited, and searched through for typos. One of the main reasons I won't spend over 99 cent on an ebook, is the typos. One last thing before I go on about the plot of the book- A part of the book that should have been the most climatic, the most intense fell flat. With one good hit it's over. Once you get to location 2133 you would know what I'm referring to. Now, with that out of the way, the cover to Call me Cat is beautiful, both versions that I saw were stunning. That itself pulled me to read this book.
Cat saw her parents murdered before her when she was only a teenager. Growing up in foster home after foster home she ends up in college. Through her entire teen years and adult years, Cat is stalked by her parents murderer. She receives a note through the mail from him. His taunts are endless. One day her world changes altogether. Coming home to her apartment she finds her cat has been butchered, her belongings trashed. About this time, in walks Ash. He is sexy. Smart, but she senses that he's dangerous. (Ash was my favorite part of this book) But about the time she meets Ash is when things start to get horribly worse. Is Ash the man behind her parents murders? It makes you lean that way. Though I'm hoping that I'm wrong and he's clear of any wrong doing. The plot of this book was good. It was different. I just wish that the Twilight references or similarities were out, and the book was longer with a hightened climax. I would have given this book 4 stars if it weren't for that. I can over look typos, it's reading all these books that are so similar that turns me off. But everyone has their own misgivings about what they like and don't like in a book, so you won't know unless you try it for yourself.

Be prepared to be dipped head first into a world where sex and lies are just the tip of iceberg and cream embossed stationary sends Catelyn into a whirlwind of panic!

I've completely devoured Call Me Cat to say the least, I read it from start to finish in around 36 hours, I simply could not put it down! I was given a copy of it for my honest review and I cannot thank Karpov Kinrade enough for the first instalment in this series.

It simply just drips sex and is exceptionally erotic in most of the plot given Catelyn's alter ego Cat's job. As is the standard I am used to in all of Karpov Kinrade books, you are immersed, within the first few pages, into the world that Catelyn lives in, it is so well constructed that you can easily begin to place yourself right there with the characters, experiencing the sights, the smells, the sounds and of course the introduction of not 1 but 2 possible heart throbs will always get a woman's pulse racing! Just which brother will she chose?

Not only is this book about erotic, hold onto your seat sex but it is also an exceptional mystery, the Midnight Murderer and boy did I have the time of my life, clutching onto my chest feeling each twist and turn of the plot as it quickly thickened, leaving false trails and other trails that are yet to be answered. It will keep you guessing and then second guessing yourself to just who the Midnight Murder is, but will Catelyn and her friends work it out before it's too late? Will you?

An amazing read and perfect for those who want a real page turner! I am desperate for Tell Me True to come out, the second in the series, so I can see just what happens to my theories and whether Catelyn/Cat is able to become at one with herself and truly fall in love without getting herself killed- just what were her parents hiding and what other secrets will unfold......

I give this book a 4.5 for I am not one who seeks out eroticas. I enjoyed this book because the plot line, not the sex part, was very intense. Catelyn's parents were murdered in front of her eyes when she was fifteen. She called the cops in time to save her but not her parents. This man touched her and mainly told her that he will be coming for her. He is the Midnight Murderer. After several years while Catelyn is in college he reapers to threaten her life.

On top of this Catelyn is struggling to make it through college and surviving. Money is low and so she turns to a sex operator position. She doesn't like it, but she needs money. Her best friend Bridgette is rich and upper crust, but Catelyn refuses to take money from her friend. So she turns to the sex line and has the nickname of Cat.

The cherry on top of all of this is Ash, Ashton Davenport the rich man. Catelyn doesn't really like him at first and finds him annoying. She also doesn't want to get involved with anyone because her life is so messed up. But Ash is persistent though he is falling for Cat, Catelyn's sex operator name. Ash called her and instead of wanting the usual he just wants to talk.

Catelyn has to juggle her double identity around and conceal that. She has to deal with the murderer from her past and she must also find this book that her mother wrote so the murderer will maybe leave her alone. But she doesn't know where this book is! Catelyn is having a rough time juggling all of these things and then there's Ash. Dangerous Ash, been to prison Ash, been to prison because of Catelyn's mom, Ash.

There are step-by-step sex scenes because this is an erotica and so therefore that states it all. Catelyn is also a sex operator. So be aware of this and that there is cussing in it. Also CLIFF HANGER! After I finished this book I was desperate to get the next one. Because I wanted to know what happens next in her life. And no not about her sex life. The authors leave a cliff hanger that makes you want to rush out and get the next one.

After reading the blurb, I knew that I had to give this book a try. This duo author has a way of capturing you inside their world no matter what book you are reading. With Call Me Cat, we get into Catelyn's world. She is trying her hardest to get through law school and has had a pretty crappy teenage life. Both of her parents were taken from her and she has been haunted ever since.
When deciding she needed to find a good paying job to help pay her bills and for food she takes on a job as a Phone Sex Operator. How kinky right. Especially since she is a virgin. I can not even imagine talking dirty and not having the experience. I have to say I enjoyed how she did her research to learn how to talk dirty lol. That is until she meets bad biker boy Ashton or better knows as Ash.

He calls her while she is working but of course has no clue what so ever that both Cat and Catelyn are the same person. And he has been pursuing Catelyn but she isn't giving into his charms.
There is a bit of suspense wrapped in this story as we find out Catelyn is being watched and we are kept guessing well after the ending. This was a very good story, yes there is talk of sex scenes and an actually sex scene but nothing too severe. I think the only thing that bothered me a bit was when Cat got one call from a guy who had a disturbing fantasy to be played out, but I do know that there are people out there that have those kind of fantasies and there is a special kind of hell in place for them.

We see Cat struggle at times with her job, she knows it isn't something that she should be doing but it is what pays the bills and will help her finish college.

Now the ending OMG!!! I was literally in the bathtub reading this book, and when I got to the ending I want to throw my kindle just because of the cliffhanger. I have read cliffhangers before but I have never read one like this that I wanted to rush out and buy book two to find out what does Ash need to tell Catelyn. I am so very intrigued I just have a feeling that the serial killer has something to do with Ash and his family.

4.5 stars

I really enjoyed how different this book was with elements like a phone sex operator, but then a darker underlying plot about a murderer and a girl who's being stalked. All of this made it very interesting.

When it first began I wasn't sure how I felt about the vast difference in tone between Catelyn working as a phone sex operator, and the humor surrounding that and the tone of the murder story and about her parents death. But, as the story progressed, I found that at it all came together quite nicely and the shifting of tones really helped to illustrate how the murderer/stalker's actions became more elevated.

In a lot of murder mystery-esque books (and even shows) I find myself guessing (correctly) who the "bad guy" is pretty early on in the book. And while that fine and dandy, I loved how in this book I kept trying to guess even few chapters and ended up being wrong. The mystery of it was great and kept me on my toes, leading me down paths I thought for sure I had figured out only to wind up at a dead end to the point where at the end of the book I threw it down on the table in shock while my boyfriend looked at me like I was insane (true story).

On top of that I found the supporting character quite an awesome addition as well. I loved Catelyn's best friend Bridgette (though I couldn't figure out how to say her name in my head - is it Bridge-it or Bridge-eet???). She seemed so fun and supportive and adorable. I would definitely have loved to read more about her backstory.

I like the Davenport brothers and I thought it was nice to see in a book how there was a "love triangle" of sorts but it wasn't overwhelming and drawn out like I've seen in a lot of other books.

The ending was annoying and brilliant with its stupid CLIFFHANGER!!!!! Luckily, I downloaded the entire series onto my kindle before reading so I hopped right over to the sequel as soon as I finished the first - I think this definitely marks a book as a winner.

~* I received a free copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an HONEST review. *~

Call Me Cat is about Catelyn Travis, an orphaned law student at Harvard Law who lands an interesting nighttime job as a phone-sex operator. If that wasn't bad enough, she's caught the attention of Ashton Benjamin Davenport the Third (Ash), a young, self-made billionaire with a dark past. Catelyn's past isn't too bright either as her parents' murderer is still at large and stalking her at every turn. When Ash calls Catelyn's extension and begins a relatively deep relationship with Catelyn's alter-ego Cat, everything gets a little more interesting. But the Midnight Murderer, the man responsible for the deaths of her parents, is back in her life and he will stop at nothing to make her his and he just might be a young, self-made billionaire.

There were some grammatical errors and a few small spelling errors, but none of them take away from the actual plot or the pacing.

I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys murder mysteries with spicy romance. This book is recommended for adults only for graphic depictions of sex. I do have to add a trigger warning to my review because I know that animal abuse and sexual abuse are big triggers for some readers. Both are present.

Overall, wow. The end is a total tease. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book only to be left in a state of perpetual suspense. I hate cliffhangers in a good way. As for the characters, I fell in love. Catelyn, Cat, and Ash are developed so well that it's easy to forget you aren't living through everything with them like some backseat friend. I enjoyed this book so much and I really can't wait for the next. The author duo of Karpov Kinrade is one of my favorites and I look forward to all of their releases because they are brilliant and talented beyond measure.

I suppose I've learned my lesson: sexy cover (not the one here, but the new one on Amazon) + freebie does not always equal a good book.

The idea of the blurb sounded like it could be interesting, depending on how it was handled in the story. But as I started into the book, I realized quickly that this book was not going to work for me at all.

First, it's not just that she's an orphan, but both parents were murdered. And they weren't just murdered, they were murdered by some serial killer. And she escaped but has had the guy after her ever since. But of course the cops can't find him, and ignore the warning signs that he is indeed out there somewhere and stalking her . . . as soon as this was thrown in to the story (chapter two, I think), I rolled my eyes and started skipping.

And the sex phone operator --- oh, it did not turn out as fun as it could have been. Especially when Ash calls in and they (later) start to have phone sex. Really, do people get off with a conversation like this:

"I stimulate your clit, and soon you come." [Note, that's not a direct quote, but rather me paraphrasing how ALL these scenes go]

Wait, you're right . . . reading that sentence gave me three fantastic orgasms. o.0 No, just no. I can understand that as a virgin (of course . . . ) she was not prepared to talk dirty for these scenes, but every scene, whether it was for the job or for Ash and Cat, was so very clinical and just wrong. There was room to play with this idea, or to make it very sexy between Ash and Cat. Instead it was the most boring sex descriptions ever. Sounded like a scientist was giving a play-by-play of a porno, actually.

I admit, I skimmed through more than 60% of this book, and sadly it never improved for me. The only positive thing I can say is this: it was free, so I didn't waste my money.

Intrigue, Sex and good old fashion Romance. This book has it all. Catelyn is a survivor and will do just about anything to stay in school. But, someone thinks she has something, something left by her mother. A mother that was murdered right in front of Catelyn along with her father. And they will stop at nothing to get it. Along comes the sexiet man Catelyn has ever layed eyes on. And these writers know how to write let me tell you if want a great read this is it. Book one lays down the ground work for the next two books and thanks to me getting in on this series after all of them were out I didn't have to wait to get the next in line! I could only read before work and before bed and I don't mind telling you readers that before bed probably was not the smartest idea I ever had considering I live alone. LOL But, like Catelyn I work to survive and I'm still hopeing to meet the right man. And she met hers she is just afraid he may not be all that he is potraying himself to be. Maybe he is her mother's killer after all he fits the bill. He seems to show up where ever she is. Just because he is filthy rich and drop dead good looking doesn't mean he can't be her parents killer right?

If you like great INTRIGUE really great looking guys and yes there is more than one and reading about filthy rich people then do yourself a favor and read CALL ME CAT! Sex scenes aren't to scandalous they may make you blush a time or two but what the heck thats why we read these kind of books right to take us to place's we can't go in our own life. I throughly enjoyed reading CALL ME CAT and I think you will to.

After reading Karpov's book "Whipped" and enjoying the writing style, I was looking forward to reading "Call Me Cat" and I am glad I did as I enjoyed this one even more so than Whipped. In Call Me Cat, we meet Catelyn who when she was younger suffered a tragedy when her parents were killed and she was left alive to watch and then the killer fled the scene. Each year, she is left a message from the killer and the cops are useless and no steps closer to catching the killer. When budgets are slashed and with tuition piling up, she needs a job and fast. So she applies for one that needs a nice telephone voice, thinking it's a telemarketer's job she gets , she gets a surprise when it is in fact for a sex phone operator. Needing the money desperately and the fact that the longer they can keep them on the phone, the more they get paid - she takes the job and becomes "Cat". During her school life, where she is studying law , she meets Ashton the Third Davenport - he is blue blood and wealthy but also smug and hot. What happens one night when she is on call and it's Ash's voice that comes through the speakers ? Soon begins Cat's double life and double relationship with Ash. Will she tell him the truth and reveal who she really is outside of school ? The other storyline which made me get really into the story was the serial killer's as he has taken Cat's stalking to a whole new level as those around her and care about start to drop like flies ? Can the police and Cat find out who the killer is before any of her other friends and herself end up sharing a coffin six feet under ?
