Plus Size Crochet: Fashions That Fit & Flatter

Rate this book
At last, a book of crochet patterns devoted entirely to the plus-size woman!Plus-size gals are a group that seems to be neglected in the plethora of crochet books on the market. The author, Margaret Hubert, has often been approached at trade shows and through her classes by women in this size category, begging her to design patterns that would fit them. A plus-size crocheter cannot simply take a smaller pattern and increase the number of stitches or rows to get a garment that fits and flatters. There are lots of proportion considerations when designing patterns for larger sizes.

Plus Size Crochet has 20 crocheted garments and accessories for plus-size women. The projects are stylish and flattering for various large figure types. There are also hints and tips to help the crocheter accommodate her special needs.

I've never crocheted adult size garments. This book caught my attention. It has an introduction entitled About the Project, where Margaret Hubert relates the history behind the book, and she discusses a few of the projects. The next topic is Personalizing the Fit. There is a measurement guide up to the size 4X. There are also helpful suggestions for when the crocheter needs a 2X top with a longer length sleeve, or a larger bust or hip area. In the back of the book is a section explaining crotchet stitches with pictures. The last page is abbreviations used in the instructions. Some of the projects are for beginners while others are for advance crocheters. I'm looking forward to the challenge of a project or two.

I really like this book - not just the content but the physical book itself. It is spiral bound with heavier weight end-flaps that are part of the covers and can be used to mark the pages where one is reading or working. The patterns go from size 1X-5X and give detailed instruction on how to customize the patterns as they are being made for an essentially tailored fit. The book also gives detailed instruction on all the stitches necessary to work the patterns and assembly of the garments including how to install a lining in a bag. The only improvement that I would make to this book is that I would add size adjustments down to L, M, S and XS, simply because the patterns are so nice.

This is a book that I can't wait to start crocheting from after I purchase a copy for my own collection. I'm thrilled my public library has it in their collection.

Wonderful easy to follow directions. I only wish it had a chart showing me exactly where to measure for size.

Three stars plus, actually - a pretty useful book.

With good instructions, excellent production values (spiral bound, yay!!), and some decent-to-good patterns in extremely generous sizes, this *ought* to have rated higher, but many of the patterns use bulky yarn and/or extremely large hooks, resulting in unfortunately lumpy garments. But I tend to dislike the use of bulky yarns and large needles or hooks anyway (Pet Peeve) so YMMV.

I love this book! It's full of great projects with good clear instructions and photos, and bonus - things designed to FIT real full sized women. I checked it out from my local library and will be searching for it for my personal library.

I love this pattern book!!! I am so excited by the flattering patterns for plus-size women. Also, the patterns are clearly written so that you can have great success in re-creating these sweaters.

This was interesting to me, but what made the book is a very simple pattern for a very pretty shawl.

The book is called "Fashions that fit and flatter", but the stuff inside the book doesn't fit even the models, and definitely does nothing to flatter them. This book was a total disappointment.

I want this book and every book in the series. It has easy to follow directions, lots of colorfully of pics, and cute clothes. What else would you need. Well, patience, and the ability to crochet.
