There are so many things to learn from this charming book that it is hard to know where to start. At first glance it is a collection of clear instructions for, and great photos of, fifteen very colourful quilts which all start with cutting squares, rectangles and/or circles. Delving deeper you are rewarded with valuable information, advice and inspiration.
“Tips and Techniques” sections are part of the instructions for each quilt and, unlike many such offerings, these are really helpful discussions of topics like
• Choosing large-scale prints
• Creating scrap-bag palettes
• Combining design elements.
Valori also tells the story of how each quilt came to be designed.
She earns a final accolade for her coverage of actual quilting. Not only does she explain and illustrate the quilting of each quilt, she gives an encouraging tutorial on each of her favourite methods. She calls these Echo, Sketch, Playful and Fluid Quilting. Try and enjoy!
