In this thrilling third installment of the Agent Bennet saga, the young field agent is about to face his greatest challenge yet: himself. Armed with the shocking revelation that the sinister Shepherd has turned more than one of their own into a pawn against the Orphanage, Bennet sets out to expose everything the Shepherd has planned. But his path is riddled with peril, and he’ll need to rally all of his friends if he hopes to survive.

Haunted by the presence of his twin brother, Collin, Bennet is torn between loyalty to his family and the weight of his secrets. Collin’s tantalizing promises of freedom if Bennet joins the Shepherd shatter any remaining trust between the brothers, leaving Bennet with an agonizing choice: stay true to the organization that raised him or risk everything to rescue Collin from the clutches of darkness.

As Bennet navigates the treacherous crossroads of destiny, his faith in the Orphanage begins to waver under the captivating influence of Darcy. She challenges his every belief, causing him to question his loyalties, and sows seeds of doubt in his mind. Will Bennett emerge from this adventure as a hero, or, like Collin, will he fall into the shadows that threaten to consume him?

I’d say this is the best one of the series so far! Fast paced and with shocking twists, this book did not disappoint. I could not guess what would happen next and it was delightfully shocking and gut wrenching. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book!

Agent Bennet is back in “The Fallen Within,” the third book of The Agent Bennet Saga, and this time his biggest challenge is himself. He is an agent in training at the Orphanage, an organization that takes orphans and children nobody wants, sometimes even stealing them, and erases their identities, training them to keep the world safe. The Shepherd is working against them and has turned more than one of their agents into traitors. Now everyone is paranoid that there’s another one among them.

Since most of the other agents suspect Bennet, he has made it his personal agenda to expose the Shepherd before it’s too late. Hindering his plans is Collin, his twin brother, who is trying to get him to join the Shepherd and gain his freedom. Bennet is torn between loyalty to his family and the organization that raised him. With danger everywhere, Bennet and the other agents must work together to stop the Shepherd before everything collapses around them.

Bennet is young and has been at the Orphanage for most of his life, yet he is weighed down by the many secrets he carries and is not happy there. In “The Fallen Within,” R.S. Twells gives readers a world where teenagers are at the mercy of an organization that trains them to be, among other things, assassins and spies. Some are comfortable with the hand that has been dealt to them, while others want the freedom to choose their own path in life. Bennet is at a crossroads and all he wants is to rescue Collin from the dark side. His faith in the Orphanage is crumbling under the influence of Darcy, who challenges his every thought, causing him to question his loyalties. Nothing is as it seems, and with danger and corruption threatening his life and beliefs, Bennet must clear his name and get through to Collin.

Even though I haven’t read the first two novels in the series, I was drawn to this one because of the concept of young agents in training by a shady organization with sinister plans of their own. Not only is Bennet trying to survive surrounded by spies, undercover assignments, and violence, but he is also coming of age and trying to understand the world around him while dealing with family issues, a budding romance, and questionable friendships. After reading the first chapter that has Bennet on an undercover assignment to retrieve Darcy, I was hooked and wanted to find out what other training these young agents are going through. There is enough backstory on the Orphanage and the various characters to make sure I wasn’t completely lost in this novel.

With a combination of suspense, action, and character exploration, this action-adventure novel is an exciting read. Written from the first-person point of view through Bennet’s eyes, it has intense action sequences, especially towards the end, while giving readers insights into the protagonist’s internal struggles. The unexpected twists and turns keep readers guessing about loyalties and the characters are well-developed, especially Bennet, whose vulnerabilities make him relatable. The language is descriptive, especially when describing the characters:

…accompanied by a smile of her own that could make flowers grow in winter.

Overall, even though it’s part of a series, “The Fallen Within” by R.S. Twells is good as a stand-alone novel, making it accessible to newcomers. Though aimed at young readers, by exploring the themes of family, friendship, resilience, and free will, it resonates with all ages. It is a must-read for readers who enjoy fast-paced thrillers with emotional depth and complex characters.

“The lights from the Orphanage were too far away for me to see, though my eyes had adjusted enough for me to see directly in front of me. If someone had been waiting for me in the bushes, I wouldn’t have been able to tell. It didn’t matter. No one could catch me now.”
