I first heard of this book when I attended my son's church, Redeemer Lutheran in North Minneapolis, and T Williams, a fellow parishioner, was having a book signing after the service. I had never heard of T Williams before that, but my son, Sam, later bought his book and shared it with me. T Williams worked for many important non-profits, the University of Minnesota, and the State of Minnesota during his illustrious career. Now 91, he grew up as an African American Baptist in the Mississippi Delta, spent a summer in Maine, and was educated in Chicago and Pennsylvania, before making his way to Minnesota. Always confident in his abilities, but humble, he writes what he learned at each step along his long career. The book shows how he opened up Minneapolis' lily-white business and non-profit communities and state government to accepting African Americans as equal partners in their enterprises. A very thoughtful book that will be especially helpful in understanding Minneapolis' political and social history.
