Encouraging but Lacking Depth

Earl McClellan’s Get Your Spirit Back is an uplifting read, filled with personal anecdotes and a motivating tone that aims to help readers overcome negative self-talk and embrace their purpose. The book delivers its central message with warmth and passion, which makes it accessible to a wide audience.

However, it occasionally feels more like a personal promotion than a deeply transformative guide. While McClellan’s charisma shines through, the content can come across as surface-level, lacking the theological depth or actionable steps that some readers might expect from a book rooted in faith and self-improvement.

For those looking for a light, motivational boost with a spiritual undertone, this book is a solid choice. But if you're seeking profound insights or a structured framework for lasting change, it may leave you wanting more.

This is absolutely one of the best inspirational books that I have read in a long time. It touched on all aspects of my doubts, fears, and dreams of God's purpose in my life. How many times have I stepped back from what I felt God calling me to do? What excuses did I use? Doubt in my ability? Doubt in what others thought? Doubt in whether it was actually God or my own selfish desires?

Real life examples as well as Biblical truths helped me to examine all these things. Undoubtedly, a book all Believers need to read.

Releases Nov. 12th. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Gideon is always a favorite to read. Earl took his own personal stories and weaves them into the story of Gideon. Gideon began doubting himself. He had to ask God “Are You sure?” more than once. He went from not being sure of himself to a powerhouse war leader. But in the end he didn’t pass the baton well.

I need to continue to focus on setting my heart win goals to prepare warriors in the next generation!

Such a phenomenal read with a spiritual call to action. Pastor Earl really put his heart into this book and you can feel it through the pages. Loved all the references to his life and the passages from Judges that were put in such a digestible way that you can easily use in everyday life.

McClellan talks about how negative self-talk has held him back and how we must overcome it in our lives and for our children. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear. Instead, he gives us power and purpose. We must be sure to seize it. A quick and personal read.

When the student is ready the teacher will appear. I loved the examples from the Bible and from real life. I enjoyed the intent, but my favorite is "identify when God is speaking". A good read.

Great book, but not as in depth as I was anticipating. Great read for someone looking to grow more intimate with the Lord through seeing yourself as he sees you!
