Oh, come on! This book deserves way more love than it’s getting. I know, I know… The beginning can feel like a total shock because, after Immortal Hulk, readers probably expected something entirely different from what Cates delivered. But what he gave us is the definition of cool! What started as “WTF is this? 🤨” quickly turned into “WTF is this! 🤩”. It’s an incredibly violent and entertaining story, but it’s not just about violence and fun. Beneath it all lies an exploration of repressed trauma, and that’s exactly what we look for in great Hulk stories! Sure, the ending feels a bit rushed, but most of us know why that is. And if it weren’t for that unfortunate accident, I believe Donny would’ve told this story exactly the way he intended, and it would’ve been even more spectacular. So, what’s the takeaway? Don’t be discouraged by the low ratings—give this omnibus a chance! You might end up enjoying an extreme dose of amazing, brutal fun just like I did.

Hulk by Donny Cates & Ryan Ottley
After the horror run of Ewing’s Immortal Hulk, writer Donny Cates & artist Ryan Ottley take Hulk in a dumb fun sci-fi Kaiju inspired direction. Due to the help of magic and tech Banner now has full control over the Hulk and turns the Hulk into a space ship.

Smashtronaut: Hulk is on the run from the Avengers due to a mass casualty event in El Paso Texas. So Hulk takes a road trip to get some peace by traveling to a different universe that is filled with Gamma monsters controlled by President Ross.

Hulk vs. Thor: Banners of War: Thor is tracking Hulk from the alleged crime he committed in Texas. So we get a huge fight on multiple locations. Plus Iron Man seeks revenge due to the fallout of issue # 1

Hulk Planet: In the final arc Hulk stumbles across a planet of Gamma people and must face the Titian that has been haunting him since El Paso.

Overall this was a very fast, action packed and violent run on the Hulk. The ending seemed rushed but that may have been due to personal tragedies Donny Cates was dealing with at the time. The artist Ryan Ottley actually has to take over writing the end of this run. That being said it is fun and a quick read. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

An imaginative take that gets off to a good start ---and then meanders from one ultraviolent encounter to another. Partly I guess because Cates was unable to finish it, and partly because I'm not entirely certain he/they knew where to take it.

Alos, $75 SRP for this Omni? Seriously, give your fans a break.

one of my favorite marvel omnibus by one of my favorite creative team Donny cates and Ryan ottley! I highly recommend it if you like sci fi! great art throughout!
