An American teen is on the run, hiding from the crime syndicate she crossed. Can she escape before they even the score?
Kat and Maksim have been hiding in a sleepy Mediterranean town. It’s paradise, heaven on earth... So then why is Maksim eager to send Kat home? And why has he been acting strange since making contact with a certain hacker? Kat is determined to find out, but when a misstep in her “investigation” infuriates the hacker and her crew, the fallout puts Kat and Maksim on a collision course with the crime syndicate that’s been hunting them down.
With nowhere else to turn, they find refuge in Paris with Maksim’s friend, Dom. Kat is relieved, assuming the worst is over... until a devastating betrayal by Maksim comes to light. As the evidence piles up, Kat is forced to rely on Dom’s kindness and friendship. He’s a silver lining in this storm, and he’s there to help pick up the pieces of her broken heart.
But not everything is what it seems in the City of Light, and Dom has dark secrets of his own. Kat’s intuition, her instincts, even her vivid, foreboding dreams are no match for this game of cat and mouse.
The chess pieces are in place. The crime syndicate is closing in. Will Kat wake up to the truth before it's too late?
Dawn to Dusk is the thrilling continuation of The Awaken Saga, a YA crossover series that begins with a cryptic scavenger hunt and transitions into an action-packed thriller. Perfect for fans of The Bourne Identity, Taken, and YA thrillers by Holly Jackson and Natasha Preston.
When Ellis isn’t moonlighting as a coffee aficionada, you might find her adventuring through Transylvania, doing photoshoots in Old Town Bucharest, or otherwise trying to talk her husband into moving to Eastern Europe. She’s a lover of history with a penchant for World War II and the Cold War, and her favorite places in the world are Wallachia in beautiful Romania and the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia.
(She’s also an award-winning writer and budget-minded travel expert.)
I love the atmosphere of this series, it's tense, full of intrigue and keeps you on the edge throughout. This sequel continues Kat and Maksim's story as they are in hiding following the traumatic events in book 1. Their relationship has developed and Kat has been training to better prepare herself against future threats, and following Maksim's rules of survival. But Maksim seems to be distancing himself and Kat can't help but feel he's hiding more secrets. When she follows him to a secret meeting with a hacker she starts a chain of events that see them both back on the run and fleeing to Paris. This had so many layers with the dangers of enemies following them, the lingering threat of Vladimir and his network, and Maksim's secrets. I enjoyed the new character Dom and how he cared for Kat and comes between her and Maksim causing drama and conflicted feelings. There are lots of twists, betrayals and secrets, and you never know who can be trusted and what is real. This one definitely increased the action, drama and tension, and gave me Bourne Identity vibes. Looking forward to book3!
Oh my gosh, this was another one that I could not put down! I thought I was ready for the twists and turns after reading the first book, but I was surprised time and again. Honestly, I wasn’t ready at all for all the emotions I felt reading this. It was the biggest roller coaster of a read I’ve had in a while. I can’t wait to read the third one!
Kat and Maskim are hiding out. They’ve covered their tracks so that the mafia boss can’t find them. Or so they thought. Why does Maskim keep visiting this hacker, and why has his attitude changed? All of a sudden they are on the run, with a lot of surprises in store. Not everyone is going to survive this confrontation.
Thank you to Love Books Tours for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
Tropes: YA thriller closed door romance corruption secrets star crossed lovers on the run criminal networks
Dawn to Dusk is the sequel to Awaken the Dawn and it was just as good. I couldn't put it down. Maksim and Kat are on the run from Vladimir. Knowing Vladimir and his associates will stop at nothing to retrieve them, Maksim and Kat find their way to Paris in the hopes of staying undercover as they sort out their next moves. However, betrayal, secrets, and more may drive a wedge between Maksim and Kat before Vladimir find them first.
This one was an emotional ringer for me. Still a lot of action but more emotional this time. Maksim and Kat find refuge with Maksim's friend Dom in Paris. Dom makes things... complicated. He has a grudge against Maksim and you question Maksim's loyalties. Plus, an ex comes back into the picture and then I was like will Maksim and Kat ever be together?! Was Maksim who he said he was? Was it all another scam?
Part of me didn't want to believe it. Part of me started to. I won't spoil anything but it was a roller coaster for me. I really enjoyed this part of the saga and I cannot wait for book 3!!
This is the second book in The Awaken Saga and it is just as thrilling and intense as the first book! So this book picks up where book one left off and what a roller-coaster ride it was! The action, suspense and now with the added emotions between Maksim and Kat really added to the story and added a little bit more of everything! This is turning into a wonderful series and I can’t wait for the next book! Thank you Love Book Tours and Ellis K. Popa for sharing this book with me!
Dusk to Dawn is an impossible to put down, heart stopping jaunt through Paris full of thrilling action that will have your head spinning and pull on your heartstrings.
📖 I thought the plot was great. I was intrigued and couldn't put it down. It's full of layers within its twists and turns, indicative of a well plotted book, in my opinion. I love that it's written in a way that I'm personally still not 100% sure on a few people - are they truly trustworthy, or not?
The maybe paranormal/magic thing I hoped would be mentioned in book 2 was, in fact, handled. 😄
Like Awaken The Dawn, it does end on a cliffhanger.
✍️🏼 I love and appreciate the time, research, and attention to accurate detail that went into writing this book (well the series). Popa truly wanted to ensure it was written in both an accurate and sensitive way. I enjoy the writing a lot and cannot wait for Book 3!
The dialogue is great and reads as natural, fitting the characters.
⏳️Pacing is great with no pointless wondering or info dumps.
👥 Most of the characters we met in book one, so for those this book digs futher into them to enhance. The new characters are well developed - I love Dom!
💞 Romance level is appropriate for YA. I enjoyed the will they/won't they, slow burn type aspect.
⚠️ I don't want to risk spoilers so please check the author's site for potential TW/CW.
📚 If you like: Taken, The Bourne Identity, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (Holly Jackson), or Natasha Preston's writing, then I think you would enjoy this book (and series).
Thank you to @elliskayecreates @andfirebooks and @lovebookstours for the #giftedbook. All opinions expressed are my own.
Ellis K. Popa packs this sequel full of questions that are like an itch that you just *have* to scratch. She so elegantly weaves a loose thread for you to pull at as you dive deeper, chapter by chapter, unraveling the mystery until you realize you've been following a lit fuse. Just when you think you have an answer, you know things cannot be what they seem. You can't stop until you find out who is lying, who is being lied to, what the secrets are, and who will survive. Shock. And. Awe.
Spoilers for Awaken The Dawn (Book 1): Kat and Maksim ended the adventure of Awaken the Dawn by agreeing to disappear together. Maks made Kat promise him she would trust him absolutely, without asking too many questions, do what he said, and he would keep her safe until things were calm enough to send her home. She agreed to those terms, as young lovers are wont to do when blinded by the glorious potential of a new romance. Unfortunately, honeymoon phases lose their luster when secrets create distance and trust is put to the test when past experiences impair judgment. Now Kat finds herself second guessing Maks' every move and using what he's taught her to find out what he's up to... Buuut she's really not good at what he's taught her and it blows up in her face. #Shenanigans (my favorite word in/for this book lol). Now they're in a spot again and back on the run. Can Kat survive when Maks drops her off in a new hiding spot and disappears to find answers on his own? Meet new friends. Revisit familiar foes. Experience mysterious strangers who keep you guessing. Question reality along side Kat amidst the twists and turns. Laugh. Gasp. Cry. Repeat.
So, I LOVED the first book in this series. This one, not so much. To at least 50% through, I was giving it a "kind" 3 stars. Once we met Dom, I enjoyed it more. But overall, I was pretty disappointed. I got this book as an advance review copy and am providing my voluntary review.
The first book focused on the scavenger hunt and Kat and Max's search for answers. In this book, they were very passive. They didn't really do anything to resolve their problems, and Kat was a very whiny, useless damsel in distress- always doing stupid things that ended up ruining things for others. Throughout this book, I came to dislike Kat and Max.
Dom, despite everything, was a star in the dark. While his situation was very unrealistic as he was portrayed as a struggling actor, yet was flush with funds, his demeanor and flair were a welcome surprise.
Once they were in Paris, I was at least more interested in the book, despite the plot moving very slow and largely outside any action by Kat and Max, so I gave it the round up to a full 3 star.
I'm back and forth over whether I will try to read the third book since I currently don't care about Max or Kat at all or their "relationship."
I will also add, that a recap chapter would be nice- it took me like 20% into the book to really remember where we left off.
I absolutely loved Dawn to Dusk! I loved the first book, Awaken the Dawn, so I was really excited to continue Kat and Maksim’s story, and this was definitely worth the wait.
With Kat and Maksim trying to stay one step ahead of the Romanian crime syndicate, things quickly become complicated. When Maksim starts acting strangely and a betrayal turns everything upside down, Kat finds herself caught up in another dangerous game of secrets, lies and hidden motives. There are plenty of twists and turns, and I really enjoyed trying to work out who could be trusted.
I loved being back with these characters, and the mix of suspense, danger and romantic tension kept me hooked. The story moves between the Mediterranean coast and Paris, and I really enjoyed how the mystery gradually unfolded.
The narration was excellent and really brought the characters and story to life. A brilliant follow-up to the first book. I’m really enjoying this series and would happily listen to more. Definitely five stars from me!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC.
My stomach is in knots !!!! I was an early reader for Awaken the Dawn, book #1, and absolutely fell in love with the FMC Kat and her crush Maxsim as well as the very unique storyline!
I was so excited to continue my early readers' experience with this phenomenal book # 2 !!!!!!
Ellis k. Popa just knows how to make her readers keep reading with the nail-biting tense moments, and I never wanted to put the book down!
This book is full, I mean, full of mystery and chaos and very tense moments with Vladimir and Emilien (mobsters out to kidnap her)😬 😳 Never a dull moment! I mean, the plot thickens, and you think ok there's no way it can get worse until it does! I was on the edge of my seat the whole book.
I swear the way she writes this riveting, heart-pounding YA thriller is perfection 👌 *cheff kiss*
If it's could give it 10 stars, I would. I was so engrossed the whole time!
I loved this next story so much! Kat and Maksim make a good couple even though there are a few tricky situations along the way. I really liked Dom and I like how he looked after Kat when Maksim was on his errands. You can tell he was falling for Kat and cared about her.
I think Ellis's writing style and character building is brilliant, I've really enjoyed following Kat's story from the beginning and seeing where it leads, from the notes her dad left to uncovering the love she finds with Maksim, Daniel and Madã. I was unsure of Maksim at the start but he grows on you. Andrei has a small part in this book but all is not what it seems.
Vladimir is on the hunt again, Émilien is a bit creepy and I wasn't keen on him from the start. He likes to get his own way but has his work cut out with Kat.
I'm not ready to leave Kat and Maksim so I'm super happy to see there is a book three and a novella coming!
Dawn to Dusk is book two in The Awaken Saga and picks up where book one leaves off. Maksim and Kat are in hiding from her uncle and must be in constant watch of every move they make. Their once safe home in Spain becomes compromised, so they use Maksim's contacts to help them flee to Paris. All this time, Kat is keeping a secret of her own from Maksim. In this book, we meet Dom, one of Maksim's friends, who helps to watch and take care of Kat when Maksim is taking care of some errands in Paris. This book leaves us with lots of questions as to the state of Kat and Maksim's relationship, mystery to solve, and, of course, plenty of action. There were so many twists and turns in this book. I wasn't prepared for how things turned out and didn't see the big twist in this one at all. This book was just as good, if not better than the first one. I can't wait for this series to continue. I absolutely love Kat and Maksim and can't wait to see what's next for them!!
Dawn to Dusk by Ellis Popa is book two in the Awaken Saga. If you like criminal networks, star-crossed lovers, thrillers, secrets and Paris then you will love this book!!
Book two picks up where Awaken the Dawn left off. Maksim and Kat are still on the run from Vladimir, trying to keep a low profile and stay hidden in Paris.
Ellis wrote an amazing book two, I could not and did not want to put it down. The storyline and plot was fantastic, also loved that it takes place in Spain and Paris. The characters were written so well. I love how Maksim wants to help Kat but can she trust him? He has so many secrets and these secrets may be putting them in danger. This book kept me engaged the entire time and I’m sooo bummed that it ended on a cliff hanger…I need to know what happens next. Thank you to Ellis Popa and Love Book Tours for my physical copy of the book in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions. Read Awaken the Dawn first and then Dawn to Dusk…you will be hooked!!
Dawn to Dusk is the second book in the series by the author. The first book is entitled Awaken the Dawn. This book picks up from the first book's ending where Kat is dreaming about Emilien and wondering if he is still in jail or if Vladimir has rescued him from that fate. She is still having trouble with believing that Emilien is still coming after her and she is not safe. She is currently with Maskim who loves her but wants her to return home to the US as it is not safe for her in Spain. Kat is worried she may be pregnant also as she is feeling ill. All in all, not a great time to return home without Maskim or be anywhere else. The writing of Dawn to Dusk is a fantastic well written sequel to the first book. It is a fast paced read with the reader left wondering what will happen to Kat and Maskim every step of the way. We eventually find out Maskim is keeping secrets, big secrets. And they threaten everything that Kat is working towards with him. This book is a heart stopping ride of thrills and adventure from the beginning to the end and I look forward to book 3 as there must be! I cannot wait to finish Kat and Maskim's next part of the story!
Straight into the action. We join Kat in a safe house in a quiet town where she should is hiding and recovering from the events of the first book. But things aren't feeling so secure not her location, her health or most importantly her trust in the one person who is with her. Completely action packed and filled with unexpected twists.
Once the action starts it does not stop and I read the book in one sitting eager to find out what happens next. My one criticism as someone who came across this book before I found the first is that I had to wait until I was about a third of the way through before I got context on some things like why Kat is in hiding and who Maksim is to her and why she is with him. However I will be getting ahold of a copy of the first book now so I can catch up and eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
I requested and received an early audio version via Netgalley but this was also my first time reading. I binged the series after being granted the 2nd book. This book was absolute insanity. I was about to downgrade it one star because there were some slow and infuriating moments. Kat made the absolute dumbest decisions at times. Some of the betrayals that came to light were also way out of character and didn't make sense in the moments. However, the way this all played out overall was just too good. Non-stop tension and death fights throughout. It also managed to make me tear up a few times, too. Despite so much happening at once and chaos everywhere, this author did an amazing job of painting a vivid picture in my head for every single scene. C'est magnifique! No notes on the audiobook performance. It was excellent and I sure do hope I get the next book early, too.
Dawn by Dusk Is the sequel to Awaken By Dawn just by reading the first few chapters, I was in for such an adventurous ride. The second book continues on with Maksim and Kat’s journey to run and hide from a crime syndicate that they’ve crossed. Vladimir is on the search for Maksim and Kat.
I really love how this book takes place in Paris located in France. Everything about Paris had me in love from its beauty to its language. I also was intrigued by the French writing in the book. I felt like I was immersed in the book. I also loved learning about the types of languages that they spoke like Catalan a type of a language only spoken in a certain part of Spain. Can also I talk about the Action, Drama, and Romance in this book ! In a certain part of the book, had me so shook over one of the characters in the book. I did not see the twists that this book had. I love how Kat is so smart, brave and trained for Maksims Rules for Survival. I felt like without his training and these rules of survival she wouldn’t have triumphed through certain situations in the book.
Thank you so much to the author for this wonderful book I enjoyed every bit of it.
This series keeps getting more intense, following the story of Awaken the Dawn and its traumatic events. Kat and Maksim are in hiding, and the secrets keep piling up. This sequel kept me hooked from beginning to end.
The pace of Dawn to Dusk is a little faster than in Book 1. The dangers and enemies don't let on, and the suspense of not knowing what's going on is super intense.
I loved how the relationship between the MCs grew and developed, but I know Maksim keeps hiding things, putting them in danger.
The setting of the story is perfect. I'm in love with Paris, which gives the book a little more mystery. The rest of the characters are so on point with the plot that I'm enjoying this series tremendously.
Thank you so much for the advanced copy, LBT, and Ellis.
Dawn to Dusk is part 2 in the Awaken Saga, and here we pick straight up with Kat and Maksim, who are In hiding in the Mediterranean. But after Maksim meets with a hacker, and Kat angers him, they both flee to Paris, where they meet Dom, but following a betrayal, Kat is left not knowing who to trust.
Want to know more? Be sure to pick your copy up to find out.
So all in all, an enjoyable read and I suggest you read books 1 and 1.5 prior to this one.
It's fast paced, with lots of action and twists and turns.
There's mystery, romance and a storyline that'll keep you turning the pages long after you should have gone to sleep.
It's intelligently written, with tension and a great atmospheric feel.
Ellis K. Popa does it again. She manages to keep me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There were twists, secrets, betrayal, and lots of tension that kept me turning the pages well into the night.
This was a sequel to awaken the dawn, and it picks up right aware ATD leaves off. When I got to the end of this one and left me with so many questions. I am already anxiously awaiting book 3.
I was thrust straight to Paris with this one. Ellis’ descriptions were vivid and precise, without all the excess that gets lost in translation or confusing. After reading this book, I definitely want to go visit Paris and see all the places described within.
Highly recommend this book. I have loved this YA mystery, and I’m looking forward to the next book.
This second part of the series was better than the first. Maksim and Kat have to get her inheritance (which they do secure). Then they are on the run from her uncle - the crime boss and his henchmen. This story gives you a taste of some other European countries and friends of Maksim. The power of her uncle is scary with how easily he can manipulate people and things to suit himself. Maksim works to train her to protect herself from her uncle. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work and there are many very close calls. This story moves along quite rapidly and I couln't put it down.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Firstly this is a gorgeous book, I love the cover and the inside artwork! And secondly what a great book! This is the second book in the series and the story continues to follow Kat and Maksim, initially we find them in Spain and as the book progresses we follow their journey to France where they end up in Paris. This is a great fast paced thriller with lots of plot twists, just as a bit of a trigger warning, there are some instances of violence as the story progresses. There are some great characters and I really enjoyed the story progression. I really like the writing style and of course there is a great cliffhanger! I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
After listening to Awaken the Dawn, I couldn't wait to see where Ellis K. Popa would take Kat and Maksim next, and Dawn to Dusk did not disappoint! As much as I enjoyed the first book, I think I liked this one even more! This second book in The Awaken Saga is full of suspense, unexpected twists, and just enough romance to keep things interesting. I found myself constantly questioning who could be trusted and trying to figure out what would happen next. I especially liked the different settings and how the mystery continued to build throughout the story. Savannah Gilmore did a fantastic job with the narration, making an already exciting story even better. This was such a great follow-up to the first book and easily a five-star listen for me! Thank you to NetGalley and And Fire Books for the advance audiobook copy.
Thank you, Ellis K. Popa for the advanced readers copy of your new book!!! I loved the first book so much I couldn't wait for the release of book two, and it did not disappoint.
Kat and Maksim are back and hiding from her uncle. Kat is trying to leave the country and head back to the U.S. but can not seem to leave without being found.
After her and Maksim make their way to Paris, their relationship starts to struggle, and Kat finds herself not able to fully trust anyone around her.
Having read the first book in the series previously, I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. The story picks up where the first left off with a seamless transition. There is plenty of action from the extremely well developed characters, Kat and Maxsim. There is definitely no lack of intrigue to keep you on your toes and your brain and overdrive trying to figure out who is on Kat and Maxim‘s side and who isn’t . The author’s vivid description of the places and action in the story is 2nd to none. It’s so easy to experience this book as if it’s reality. A brilliant and engaging read.
Intriguing suspense where you don't know who to trust.
Kat has had her world turn upside down and Maksim was helping her makes sense of it. Also helping with her self defense. Things were setting nicely until Maksim starts pulling away.
Confused, Kat tries to figure out what is happening between her and Maksim, but also, trying to stay hidden from her uncle. After they are discovered, Maksim wants to send her back home, but needs help with this. But can Kat trust him or the help he is getting?
Taking place in Spain and Paris, there is a bit of mystery of who to trust and who will survive. This does end in a bit of a cliffhanger leading into the 3rd book. Can't wait!
The second book in The Awaken Saga is just as thrilling as the first. Dawn to Dusk picks up where Awaken the Dawn ended (or shortly after). Kat and Maksim are in Spain trying to stay away from Emilien and the rest of the crew. I really like Kat and her impulsive ways. Watching her and Makism is fun and how he is always one step ahead of her. A YA novel written by an independent author, this book is engaging and I can’t wait read more. A third book and a novella are coming and I will definitely read them!
Kat and Maksim find themselves having to hide in Paris to escape danger however they soon find themselves in danger. This series keeps getting more fast paced and the stakes are higher. Kat is having to navigate through secrets and betrayals from people she thinks she can trust. I found myself having trouble keeping track of what is happening and who is involved at points as there is so much that is happening at the same time however I did always find myself trying to work out who could be trust. 🤔
I can’t wait to continue the rest of the series and find out what happens to Kat and Maksin and see if they can finally escape all of the danger that follows them😊
Dawn to Dusk is book 2 in the Awaken Saga. Swipe to see the trailer
The book is in continuation after the events of book 1. It is easy to follow with well built plot, very intriguing as Kat is on the run with a lot at stake. Paris is described beautifully and the French used is so authentic. I loved the character development for everyone since book 1. I liked how Kat was trusting Dom, especially after her recent betrayal, it was a good addition. The new characters are nice and kind (apart from Marie iykyk) The suspense and action kept me hooked from start to finish.
Hope to read ahead about her adventures in the upcoming books.
Book Review Dawn to Dusk by Ellis K Popa Second book in the Awaken Saga "It's always darkest before the Dawn" Review: First off i want to say thank you for allowing me to read this book!! Dawn to Dusk is the second book in the Awaken Saga. I also want to say I went into it without reading the first book (which I will be buying BTW). Ellis does an amazing job with her plot twists- had me surprised at every turn! It was very thrilling and intense! I didn't know what was better the action, suspense or the emotions!! You can tell Ellis took her time doing her research every single detail was spot on! I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!!
Buckle up folks! Dawn to Dusk is a wild and intense ride from start to finish. Kat and Maxsim are on the run across Europe with seemingly nowhere safe to go as Vladimir deploys all his tricks to hunt them down.
Dawn to Dusk is the second book in the Awaken Saga, the story picks straight up from the ending of Awaken the Dawn and a breathless, action packed story full of drama and romance follows. Oh, and I felt so sorry for Dom who unwittingly becomes entangled in Kat and Maxsim's life. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
