Not my usual genre of book however it was definitely an easy read. Kept you waiting to the very end to find out exactly what happened/ who it was. Good debut novel for Cat!

🖤 Coming of age story
🩸 Homage to all things horror
🔪 Whodunnit?

Great debut by CJ Rose 👏
I just wanted to read it at warp speed so I could find out who the killer was 🤣 so impatient!
It was suspenseful but had funny and heartfelt moments.

I loved the FMC Lily, a purple loving goth girl 🤭 who after a very traumatic incident turns in on herself and takes refuge in horror films and her best friend Rowan. Lily grew as a person throughout the book, she gained back her confidence and strength. She was the perfect final girl.

I did not guess the twists. Everytime I thought I had it figured out, BAM! You’re 💀! 🫣🤭 very well played 👏

This book read like a classic 90's or 00's slasher film in the best way. This book felt so nostalgic to me since I grew up watching these horror movies and this novel encompassed all the vibes of them. The author did a great job building up the setting and giving us perfectly detailed glimpses into each of the characters. The last 50 pages in particular had me on quite the rollercoaster of guessing what was going to happen next!

Remember those classic 90s horror movies where a group of ‘friends’ head off to uni, thinking they’re in for parties, sex and leaving their past behind them, only to find out they’re actually in a nightmare? 😱

Friends Like These by @cjrosewritesandreads is just that—minus the VHS tape and bad haircuts. It’s secrets and betrayals lurking in the shadows.

Rose masterfully captures the vibe of those campy horror movies we all ‘fondly’ remember—back when dial-up internet was still a thing, and the only thing scarier than a chainsaw-wielding maniac was trying to find a payphone to call for help. 📞

With a fresh start at University, Lily sees a chance to escape the memories of her painful past. 😵
But her past refuses to stay dead 💀

Just when you think you’ve figured out who the real villain is, Rose throws a twist that’ll make you wish you’d taken that wrong turn at the gas station instead. The constant nods to classic movies is both comforting and welcome. A creepy trip down memory lane. I couldn’t get enough of this book! It’s no urban legend I devoured it in 8 hours 🤫

Friends Like These is a perfect mix of nostalgia, suspense, and the kind of tension that makes you want to scream at the characters through the pages. But don’t worry—no one can hear you scream in a book. Or can they? 😉

A 5⭐️ read you must have in your collection!!
