Crimson Club #5

Dad Next Door

Rate this book
Moving into my first house is step one in starting my new life. Next is setting up my contracting business. I’m so focused on my future that a relationship is the last thing on my mind.

Then I meet Tristan, the single dad next door. He might be my total opposite, but we click in a way I’ve never experienced, and he quickly becomes one of my closest friends.

After attending a wedding as his fake date to make his ex, and his ex’s new boyfriend, jealous, I can’t deny that things between us have changed. I always thought I was straight, but being with Tristan doesn’t just feel good, it feels right.

Having a fling with my neighbor might be a recipe for disaster, but it could also be exactly what we both need to finally move on from our pasts.

Quinn and Tristan’s story is a friends-to-lovers, bi-awakening romance between a retired porn model who just moved into his first home, and a single dad trying to navigate life after divorce. Expect a fake relationship, an age gap, found family, all the feels, lots of spice, and tons of heat as these neighbors find out that sometimes opposites really do attract. It is the fifth novel in the exciting new Crimson Club series but can be read as a standalone.

What can I say about myself? It’s kind of like being the new kid in school and being asked to tell everyone a bit about yourself. Anyone else forget everything they’ve ever liked, thought of, and even their name in those moments?

A few facts about me; I’m a veteran, I’m Canadian, and I love books! I’ve been writing my own stories since I was eight and wrote my first novel at sixteen. I’m the first to admit those attempts weren’t my best work, but they started me on a journey of creating stories that has led me to fulfilling my dream of becoming an author. I’ve written and published in several genres under different names, but MM is by far my favorite, and I’m so happy to be able to share my stories with people today.

I currently live on Canada’s east coast with my kiddo and my cats. I have a shoe collecting addiction, and I enjoy taking long walks, discussions with friends, and reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.

“You don’t have to pretend to be anything because you’re already everything.”

Quinn and Tristan’s story was sweet, but was lacking…something. My heart wasn’t fully invested in this one.

There were way too many dialogues and inner monologues that went on for pages and pages. A whole lot of extra filling that made me lose interest in them as a couple.

I don’t mind the evil ex trope, especially when mixed in with some fake dating to make them jealous, but I don’t feel it was executed quite right here. The ex was barely present, the fake date too short. There was no real resolution in the end either, no grand dramatic fight.

The smut was also a little lackluster. I know, I know. I can’t possibly expect authors to reinvent the wheel, but it just felt really bland. Yes, it was slow and sweet and it fit the characters, but there was no spark, no passion. It felt repetitive after a bit, so much so that the switch scene felt almost identical to the first sex scene. It was all I saw stars behind my eyes, it has never felt like this, he looked at me like i was special…over and over again.

My last point is the ADHD rep. It felt a little forced?
Like okay, Quinn has ADHD, but do we really have to constantly bring it up? Can they not talk about anything else? Is every issue they have have to lead back to his ADHD? I’m all for inclusive representation, but not when it doesn’t feel genuine.

Not my fave of the series by far. Had its moments, and will definitely be a nice and sweet and fluffy read for most.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Time of Death @60%

Dry, bland romance. Conversations between the MC’s were a constant therapy session. I didn’t buy the romance between them at all and we got told more than shown the friendship.

Almost every dialogue session between these two was a trauma dump and info session. It’s like the author spent more time explaining what she thought a healthy romance should look like, than actually creating one.

I am not sure how I feel about the ex husband drama. I don’t think it’s necessary to villainize a character to make the new love interest the better choice. It comes across as

“See, this new relationship is so much better and healthier because look how horrible this past relationship was.”

I don’t hate villainous ex’s. They are great antagonists. I just hate when they are used to raise the new love interest’s value to the reader.

I couldn’t make myself finish this one. I was both bored and exhausted from being in the characters heads.

This was so...meh 😕

There were so many subplots that initiated tension, but it never went anywhere so it was very anticlimactic and a lot of the book ended up feeling completely pointless.

Why start the neighbour issues if nothing comes of it? It added nothing to the story whatsoever and should have just been chopped out.

The ex was built up to be an abusive and controlling dickhead who wanted to have everything his own way, but then nothing came of it. He just disappears like he's had an entire personality change. Either have the tension with the ex that leads to some kind of showdown and resolution so it keeps the plot moving, or don't make it such an integral part of the plot that just ends up being as gripping as a puddle of lube..... 🙄 It felt like it was just there for the sake of having a bit more drama, and he just vanished from the story after the initial fake date.

The MCs were also so bland. I kept forgetting which POV I was reading because they were almost the same person. Plus it ended up feeling more like research notes and pontification for ADHD, anxiety and moving on after divorce. There was nothing interesting at all.

It's a shame because I really liked Quinn in the previous few books but here he has as much personality as a cucumber.

Class over.

Again.

As in the previous book, this one had a lot of explaining, reasoning, teaching, labelling, defining and talking it out like there's no tomorrow. I feel like I'm going home after a gruelling class and I can't wait to get to bed and forget all about it.

Not to mention Quinn got a shit story. He was such an interesting character and I was honestly really looking forward to reading his story, but this was a fantastic disappointment.

🟢 Veterinarian/male stripper, ex porn star, future contracting business owner
🟣 Age gap - 10 years 28/38
🟠 Gay/bi-awakening+ demi
🔵 Divorced, single dad, a small kid, a salty ex husband, a fake date to a wedding
🟡 Neighbours
🟣 ADHD is mentioned ALL the time
🟢 All the main characters from previous books present
🌶️ Intimacy starts at 65%, slow paced, off-page, 2 sex scenes; both vers

You lost me at pineapple pizza, so at that point I already knew the story would just go downhill from there.

Quinn didn't get a good story. The author was doing mental gymnastics with his porn career and his love interest, Tristan, being a millennial.

Why? That's my only question. Why.

So in short Quinn moves to a nice neighbourhood with his content creator/porn money, he meets Tristan, his single dad neighbour who becomes his best friend and after a fake date at a wedding they start fooling around.

Tristan was 38, not 58. But when reading the book you'd think he's this old fart who crawled from under a rock and doesn't know a thing about anything.

“I’m an elder millennial. I’m so used to being blamed for everything. I don’t have the time or the energy to worry about stuff like that.”

“The ass crack of dawn?” I spluttered. “I’ve never heard that before.”

“Simon sent a letter to the clinic. And, of course, he used a courier so it would be extra annoying and cause a scene.”
“A letter by courier? Is this 1985?”
“It hurts my elder millennial soul that you think 1985 is ancient history.”

“Oh yeah. How do you kids say it? All facts, no printer?”

When it comes to Quinn's porn career, things were weirdly presented. First he's a demisexual so the author takes pages upon pages to sound logical about how it makes sense he can't have sex without a connection but he can fuck on demand with no problem (why make him a demi?? It just complicated everything!), then he's this hot guy who's amazing and smart but hasn't had an adult relationship like ever and hasn't had sex in 3 years (but he's, again, a male stripper with tons of cash, doesn't hurt he's hot AF).

Where are these guys being pulled from? Bumfuck fantasy nowhere land

"The picture I’d had in my head about what sex workers were like didn’t match the Quinn sitting across from me. I hadn’t fully understood what he meant when he’d said it was an acting job, but after looking at his Instagram and seeing the kind of stuff he posted in contrast with who he was as a person, it was obvious his online persona was a role he’d created to sell his work."

Yeah no shit Sherlock??

"Now that I knew what to look for, I could see the detachment in both his and his scene partner’s eyes and actions."

They're there to work, not make love.

"Now that I was sober, the scene wasn’t funny; it was confusing. The man on screen wasn’t Quinn. It was Stone."

🤦

"That was one thing I’d never understood about porn. I knew there were only so many ways people could have sex on camera, but there had to be better options than the acrobatic positions models ended up doing. I always felt sorry for them when they were all twisted up. Did people actually get off on it?"

😄😄

"I exited out of that scene feeling sympathy for both Quinn and his scene partner and opened another random one."

😄😄😄

"He might not care that I could see his videos, but jerking off to my friend on the internet didn’t sit right with me."

😄😄😄😄

"He really was just a walking dildo."

That felt like the author's inner monologue, not Tristan's. The author was putting down their thinking and reasoning about porn stars and sex and then applied it to a 38 year old divorced gay man and it felt like listening to a bear speaking Spanish all of a sudden. It wasn't believable, wasn't authentic and it completely complicated what should've been a sweet, sexy age gap romance.

You're trying to tell me that a 38 year old Tristan who regularly watches porn and wasn't born yesterday, doesn't get that being an actor in porn means it's fake? That it's a show, a job? That Quinn's online persona is separated from his private life? That he didn't click on that first link and jacked off like crazy first moment he was home alone? You're telling me he felt sorry for his very hot neighbour and stopped himself from watching him in porn? And dissected the way the guy looks when he's on Insta and when he's with him having a beer?
Wow.

So many things are repetitive in these books. If these guys wouldn't know how to act when stripping or doing porn, they wouldn't earn as much as they do. So talking about how they seem so miserable on stage or on the set is crazy! The author is trying to tell us how the love interest of these strippers is finally at peace knowing their guy doesn't like his job.
That's so juvenile. Completely insecure and juvenile.

Why do Tristan and Quinn need until 65% of the book to get together? The relationship progression happened off-page, that was the first mistake. It was all going on at a very snail pace anyway and these guys were talking things out like they were on a debate team or something.

Quinn had his friends from the Crimson club but it was like he wasn't a part of the group. He never said anything, never had any serious talks with them and even when they started working together one would think they'd be more connected as a group. So that was a letdown too.

I feel like the characters the author had in mind were really good, but the storytelling is so obnoxious that it ruins everything. It's literally one of the worst series I've ever read.

What started out as an amazing read kinda turned into a "meh" read for me.

I loved the first half of this. Absolutely a 5 star read for me.

The connection between Quinn and Tristan was great in this, the chemistry was so good, and the story had me hooked. These two were just working so well together.

Then around the second half...it dropped off for me.

The author fell into the trap she did with the previous book. It was all too...perfect. Meaning that these two talked everything out, they took their time before starting anything, any potential drama was always easily fixed.

What could have been the main source of drama in this, Tristan's emotionally abusive ex, was barely a problem in this, ever. For an apparent narcissist who couldn't let Tristan go, near the end he lets him go very easily.

It just felt like the author was trying too hard to write these two "the correct way" as in not problematic in the least. It rang false for me.

I even ended up skipping their sex scene near the very end, near 95% because I kinda just wanted to be done with this already.

There was no heat, no passion, the chemistry fell way off. There's only one time on page they have a heavy make out sessions before sex way too late in the book. Every other kiss is "slow and intimate and about their love, not just getting off" and blah blah blah. And sure, slow, deep kisses have their place, but it's okay to have them let go and be wild for each other too. It just kind of became "meh" for me. So with that first half being so amazing, I balanced my rating out at 4 stars, as the second half was more of a 3 star read for me.

The author did this last book as well, but in this one it skips over what would have been interesting scenes and we just hear about it afterward. Like Tristan meeting Quinn's parents, for example. I was looking forward to that scene when they talked about it, and then we never got it.

Also others might like this, but Leo, Tristan's son, is barely in this. There was enough in the first half to establish that connection between Leo and Quinn, but there's barely anything with them - or even Leo in general - in the second half. Leo is a sweet, adorable kid and I wouldn't have minded seeing more of him. For a book that was taking forever to get Quinn and Tristan's fire going as a romantic couple, it barely took enough time to really build that bond between Quinn and Leo, as future stepfather and stepson.

I was so bummed out that it started to drag for me in the second half. I was really loving the first half and was so hyped for the rest, and it just kinda...fell by the wayside. Too much moralizing and trying to be as healthy as could be - which, again, in real life is what we should strive for, but in fiction it's just a bit boring and also comes off a bit preachy and pretentious.

A little like "yes, here we are, about to have sex, but because we love each other so dearly and respect each other, not because we just want to fuck, how tacky" kind of attitude. Just so high and mighty? Which, again, I want them to love each other and respect each other, but maybe don't preach about it every time they do? Or maybe just show us instead of telling us?

I don't mean them checking in with each other and getting consent, but they would talk out everything and also talk about it afterward and I'm just like...just have some hot, dirty sex together ffs.

As sweet as it is, it takes out a lot of the passion when they do this kind of preachy-ness all the damn time.

Like...let them act a little more human sometimes?

But anyway, as much as that annoyed me, this still does get 4 stars from me for the amazing first half. Everything was clicking in that half. They had real problems too, as Tristan's ex felt like a legitimate problem who could do so much to them (of course he ends up barely doing anything at all with an easy fix to make him go away for good basically) and cause so much drama, the build up was doing so well, and the chemistry was so good.

Truly, the first half gets all the praise from me.

But the second half just fell way off, so that's wherein my problem lies.

The overall rating is still good because of that first half, but I wasn't all too happy with the second. Unfortunate, as I was really loving these two together, and they could have continued to be amazing together. I was so excited to give this book 5 stars, but...it was not to be.

It's still a higher rating than the previous book for me, but not by much. I hope in future works, we can get a little more messiness and passion, as I know this author is quite capable of doing.

Unfortunately for this one, it didn't quite hit that mark.

I'd still recommend it, as overall it was enjoyable. As much as it dropped off in the second half, there were still enjoyable parts, to be sure. It just, unfortunately, missed that 5 star mark for me.

I'm excited, however, for the new series coming out later this year focusing on Jesse, Quinn's brother, and others that work at his garage. A new setting will definitely be fun and exciting.

Onto the next!

Wow, this book was so freaking good.

I didn’t know what to expect. Honestly, slow burn isn’t my favorite, but it worked so well here and it didn’t feel like it was dragging at all.

Tristan and Quinn are such a great couple together!!!

If you were going to like do like a build-a-bear of the perfect partner, these two, honestly, they have the best characteristics that you could ever want. They're thoughtful, considerate, open minded, non-judgmental and the way they communicate (chef's kiss!) it’s just perfection.

This was just so unexpectedly sweet and satisfying and I loved it. Highly recommend.

Age gap

Quinn is a dancer at the Crimson Club. He has an OF page and uses his online presence to support him financially. He used to work in the adult film industry. Now he is working on setting up a construction business. He just moved into a new house in a new neighborhood.

Tristan is a newly divorced single father. He works as a veterinarian and constantly has to deal with his ex making his life difficult. He does his best to provide a happy life for himself and his son.

Quinn is Tristan's new neighbor. A lost furless cat brings Tristan to Quinns door. The two hit it off as friends and when Tristan is in need of a wedding date Quinn is happy to provide himself up.

I have mixed feelings on this one. There was just too much explanation of things going on. It made the story very stilted. It took away from the romance part. I wanted to love it but it just fell flat for me. Still had moments of cuteness and lovely HEA.

I have loved Quinn since his character first appeared in Grey’s book, and have been impatiently waiting for him to get his own. & it was perfect!

His and Tristan’s story did not disappoint! It was so sweet and steamy, and I absolutely adored watching their friendship transition slowly into more. Hands down my favorite couple of the series.

i needed quinn’s story so much and i’m so happy i finally got it. the delivery was excellent.
but also, i just loved tristan so much????? i actually wanted to hug him all the time.

i honestly loved how much time passed before they got together. they both needed that time and their friendship before starting a relationship.

something that bothered me is that sometimes this author’s characters talk like robots that want to sound like humans, but that might be just me

Stripper meets single dad in this sweet story of self discovery. I think I'd classify Quinn and Tristan's story as a slow burn- although they have a great deal of chemistry, they take the time to get things right and build a solid foundation.
I enjoyed the cameos from other characters in the series, especially scene-stealing Nick and the set-up for Jett's story coming next!

This was such a fun and sweet story. I’ve been excited for Quinn’s story since the beginning of the series. I’m not usually a fan of slow burns but with Quinn and Tristan it worked. It was nice to see them slowly build a friendship, that grew organically into a beautiful relationship. I’m excited to see what’s next for the series.

Heroes: Quinn and Tristan

Quinn moves into his new home and is feeling a bit overwhelmed with the house and trying to get his new construction up and running. He meets his neighbor's son when their cat escapes the house and helps them find it. Tristan is a single dad with a terrible ex that was emotionally abusive. They both have a lot to work through on their own and things that make them insecure. They become quick friends and start spending a lot of their free time together.
Their friendship was really sweet and beautiful. I loved seeing how supportive and patient they were with one another. Eventually that friendship shifts and turns into a bit more.
They have amazing communication - honestly, on the verge of being too much. Admittedly, there were some moments where it felt a bit much. Like it was more of a lesson being taught than a real conversation between two guys. I think that's one of the things that brought this one down a bit for me. There was a lot of discussions, and they were filled with "teaching" moments and a ton of phrases that felt like they were pulled directly from tiktok.
I that this had ADHD and demisexual rep. I 100% agreed with the ADHD rep since I saw so much of myself in Quinn's character and what he went through.

I love this series and if you look at my ratings for the previous books, you'll see that it's one of my all-time favorite series, ever. I still loved this one and found the relationship to be extremely sweet. Unfortunately, I didn't quite love this one as much as the others. It's heavy on the conversations (with overly modern/tiktok slang/wording), light on the spice, and slow on the romance.
I don't mean for this to sound like I didn't enjoy this one. I definitely did! I recommend it, especially if you have read and loved the rest of the series.

I adored this! I was kind of expecting a more INTENSE and EMOTIONAL ending than that but it was still adorable nonetheless!
I always enjoy stories with kids or torture men that are finally loved properly and Quinn and Tris were Absolutely perfect for each other! Such soft and comfy love with proper communication all round, despite the heaviness of the topics in this, I still felt lighthearted like this was somehow healing me too and I ADORE THAT! Gimme the next story tho! I’m always going to EAT UP a good poly romance!

So much talk! So many words of dialogue about each MCs psychological issues. It was like reading a lecture.
That, along with pages of dry inner monologue, has sucked the life out of a book that should be hot.
A review mentioned lackluster sex and I’m not to that part yet, but I appreciate the warning. I’m outta here!

Dad Next Door by Willow Dixon is book 5 in the Crimson Club series. I’d not read the previous installments, but was able to easily follow along. It can definitely be read as a standalone.

Quinn Reynolds has just purchased a house next to Tristan Winters and his son, Leo. Quinn is a dancer at the club, online content creator, and just beginning his contractor business. Tristan is a vet who has recently divorced his narcissistic husband.

These two begin a very sweet relationship that soon becomes more. I love the beginning of their friendship and relationship, but there was just something missing for me. It was very dialogue heavy and just didn’t feel natural at times.

The side characters were interesting and I will probably be checking out the others in this series. I am intrigued about Jett’s story.

I really enjoyed this one mainly because of how much care and sensitivity went into the story, the characters, and their relationship. There are a lot of conversations in this book, which could turn some people off from this story with all the dialogue but I found it was refreshing and needed for the subjects included in here. I always appreciated when characters communicate effectively and don't try to hide what's going on in their heads.

Quinn is a sex worker, currently doing online content and stripping a few times a month at the Crimson Club. He was a theatre kid with big dreams but never got a big break role but he did end up doing porn to gain a steady paycheck. Quinn has known that he is demi for a while now and the way he was able to do his job was explained well and with a lot of care. For him it was just an acting job and he was working, nothing more and nothing less. Now he has moved into his first home and is building his new contracting business. He also has ADHD that causes his inner voice to be negative and put up mental blocks when he needs to relax. A chance encounter with the neighbor while saving one of their cats is his introduction to Tristan. After one of the rough pickup exchanges with Tristan's ex-husband, Quinn cheers Tristan up and these two become friends.
"Nothing?" She pinned me with a look. "You guys are doing garage playdates every other Friday after Simon leaves, and now you're hanging out in the evenings when Leo isn't here. That doesn't sound like nothing."

Tristan is instantly attracted to Quinn but his neighbor is straight and they have been building a friendship, they're best friends now. He has to go to a mutual friend’s wedding and he waited until the last minute to find a date and now he doesn't have one. Quinn steps in and says he will go as Tristans date so they can actually have fun and make the ex and his new boy toy jealous. Quinn goes into the fake date as if he's acting a part but ends up never really acting the whole night, he realizes that he's attracted to Tristan and boom, bi-awakening for him. There's never really an issue or discomfort for anyone in this story about Quinn realizing he likes men as well, which I loved. I do wish that the coming out to his friends and family was actually on page and not mentioned in a sentence that he already told them. Also, the first time they touch each other intimately is not on page, just another mention. There was also opportunity for a wee bit more drama with the ex since he basically became non-existent after the wedding.
"What's happening?" he whispered. "I don't know." I pulled him closer. "Can I kiss you?" His eyes widened. "Like, for show?" I shook my head. "No. Not for show." "I don't understand." "Neither do I."

I liked that they took it slowly with each other for both their sakes and for Tristan's son, Leo. Tristan was still dealing with the psychological damage his ex had done to him in their 14yrs together. Quinn needed to go slow to feel comfortable with and fully trust his partner, his prior relationships didn't really respect that and he was always detached from the intimacy. The couple continues to spend time together whenever they had free time and slowly explored each other’s bodies until they were both ready. The couple also supported each other’s careers and aspirations. There were a couple times that Quinn said he would've quit the sex work for Tristan if he asked him too, since he was unsure if it would make the other man uncomfortable and ruin their relationship. Tristan consistently reaffirmed to Quinn that his work was separate from their everyday lives and that he would never ask him to quit and he was not bothered.
"Besides, it's a massive ego boost to know you're posting a stiffy inspired by yours truly while your fans drool over you from afar. They wish this was for them. I know it's because of me."

The epilogue of six years later was a nice touch to see how their relationship grew, them becoming a family, where the ex is now, and Leo asking Quinn to adopt him. That made me so happy and my heart full.

Content Warnings: Cheating by ex-lovers (not MCs) off page; descriptions of past sex work processes; mentions of verbal abuse and manipulation from ex-husband; child neglect from ex-husband

Quinn!!! We’ve finally got his story and it exceeded all my expectations! This book has everything I love in a romance novel: an adorable meet cute, a swoon-worthy love interest in Tristan, and a lovable and relatable main character in Quinn. Their friendship and then romance had me hooked from the very beginning.

Tristan’s ex is such an a$$h*le, but it made me root even more for Quinn and Tristan to find their happily ever after. They are one of my all-time favorite couples now. I love the slow burn, love how their friendship developed, love how their romantic relationship developed. They’re simply perfect!!!

Willow Dixon is one of my favorite writers and has a way of writing that always leaves me feeling all the feels. It’s rare to find books so well-written nowadays, especially in romance. Honestly, sex scenes are my least favorite thing in books, but never in Willow Dixon’s books because they’re always a perfect mix of lust and romance. They’re beautifully written, adding just the right amount of passion and emotion to the story.

Dad Next Door is now at the top of my list of favorite books in the series and I highly recommend it. Thank you, Willow Dixon, for another amazing read! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Boring and bland. Soooo much uninteresting dialogue. And those conversations were sooooo long. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel but a little creativity would have been nice. Especially because Quinn seemed like a very interesting and one of a kind character in all the other books.

This series has been going downhill book by book

This was another exceptional book in the Crimson Club series and I loved it as much as the previous ones.
Quinn has just bought his first house. He's starting his own construction company, and even though he doesn't work in porn anymore, he's still an adult content creator. And he's straight. Then Tristan lives in the house next door, he's divorced with an eight year old son and a very despicable ex-husband. They meet and start a friendship that, eventually, turns into something else.
I can say this is probably one of my favourite books in this series. It's an amazing best friends to lovers story that stole my heart. Quinn and Tristan became friends quickly, they were exactly what the other one needed at that moment in their lives. The understanding and trust between them was heartwarming and I enjoyed the slow burn so much because it gave them time to get to know each other. I liked the slow pace of the plot as months passed allowing them to become best friends.
Quinn and Tristan were an absolute delight to read about. I loved how they each had their flaws that made them real, it was easy to relate to some of the things happening in their lives as their struggles were the type some of us face each day.
Their romance was beautiful, and they were amazing together. I liked how Quinn took the discovery of his bisexuality, feeling shocked at first and needed a bit of time to process things. It was authentic and real. I truly loved the mental health representation in this book, the author's work on that was brilliant. But what I mostly enjoyed about this novel was how the MCs communicated at all times. Every issue, every thought or worry, everything that came across their path, they talked it through not leaving anything to guess. I found it amazing to see Quinn and Tristan sharing everything they felt and thought.
I've loved every single book in this series so far, but no doubt this one was special for me. I can't wait to read the next one, I'm sure it'll be just as good.

This is book 5 of the Crimson Club Series and let me just say,it’s exactly what I expected and more.Because one thing Willow Dixon does best his write good men, that treats their partners with care and respect and I’m here for it.

✍︎
Quinn and Tristan are both the most beautiful, caring and kind hearted characters ever.Omg I love them so much, and they both deserve the best things the world can offer.

✍︎
Quinn is an amazing person who struggles with ADHD,but that never stopped him from doing the things he loves and wants to achieve.Quinn is an ex-p*rn star and actor, turn an only fans influencer and he also has his own construction company. He’s also has the most amazing supportive family and equally amazing friends. But his personal relationship has always suffered because of his past job,but that also changed when he met the single dad next door.

✍︎
Tristan is an amazing and wonderful person and father to an equally cute and amazing son.Tristan just got divorced from his manipulative, narcissistic and emotionally abusive ex-husband.Tristan never felt loved, desired or cared for in his 14 year old marriage and missed out on many beautiful experiences but every thing changed for the better when he met the new neighbor.

✍︎
This book has a great mental health rep,You just know, when the author did research about the topic, they are writing about, because it’s shows in the book.I love the Demi rep in the book too.

✍︎
Quinn and Tristan shares one of the most amazing and enviable love story ever. The way they are each other’s best friend and can talk about how they feel without judgement from the other person,is so refreshing. The way Quinn takes care of Tristan is so admirable. They understand each other so well,it’s like they were made for each other. It’s like they finally found the last piece of their life puzzle when they met each other. And they both deserve the happy ending they got.♥︎

I’ve been waiting for Quinn’s book since this series started and I’m a little disappointed to say that this one was just okay for me - sweet but missing something I can’t quite put my finger on.

Quinn Reynolds has a lot of jobs - explicit content creator/influencer, stripper, construction company owner…his time and attention are pulled in a lot of directions but his next door neighbor seems to draw it to him more often than not. Tristan Winters is a veterinarian and a relatively newly single dad to Leo who never really takes him to do or enjoy anything for himself until he starts spending time with his next door neighbor Quinn.

These two are super sweet together - Quinn’s ability to bolster Tristan up after years of emotional abuse by his ex-husband was so great to read and the way Tristan understands Quinn and his needs seemed ingrained in his character. But I feel like so much of this book was based on the author telling us things that happened between them instead of showing them to us, which made this story a little difficult to get through. Yes, they were sweet together, but so much of the focus was either on Quinn and his ADHD or Tristan’s work troubles and I think their romance took a backseat. I wish I got to see more of them falling for each other, not just read about it happening off page. I also wish we got to see more of Leo throughout the story, both with his dad and with Quinn…if there’s going to be a single dad who’s an active participant in his son’s life, I want to see that play out more.

Overall this one was okay, definitely not my favorite of the series but I’m looking forward to the next one - the setup is intriguing!

I najważniejsze, czy ta autorka mogłaby przestać pisać w tak cholernie moralizatorskim tonie. To już nawet nie jest zabawne .

This story was such a beautiful slow-burn romance, I was really excited for Quinn’s story and it was just amazing.

When Tristan discovers his new neighbour he isn’t expecting a hot and charming man who even if he’s not ashamed of his job's past and current he’s still wary of people about it, but Tristan sees him only as Quinn. After his divorce, Tristan finds comfort in his new friendship with Quinn until he realises that he wouldn’t be against more, especially after their stunt during his friend's wedding.
Quinn is changing his life and now Tristan and his adorable son are kind of part of it, he is surprised by his own feelings but he can’t resist the single dad next door and his shattered soul.

Such an emotional and beautiful romance, it was a wonder to read I loved every moment of it, the support, the comfort, the trust, the love, the kindness.
This one is part of my fav, and it’s hard to choose because this series is awesome, I can’t wait for more from Willow Dixon ❤️

I received an ARC Copy of this book from ForewordPR, this review is from my own thoughts 😍

This was the driest romance I've ever read and I don't mean like dry sex or anything. It's paragraphs of explanations of everything and monologues about thought processes; trauma dumping everywhere. It's fucking DRY 😆 It doesn't move the plot forward, just talking for talking's sake. Both MCs are fine, always loved Quinn, but JFC get on with it instead of explaining everything!

There are heavy doses of complete cheese too 🙄 why so much weird OTT singing and dancing? No thank you. My second hand embarrassment cannot handle this 🤦‍♀️

*I've received an ARC of this book to review with my sincere opinion*

“I’m down as long as you don’t mind having me on your arm.”
“I’d love to have you on my anything!”
Quinn burst out laughing.

I enjoy this series so much. The characters are just so precious and cute and good people. I would love to be friends with any of them.

“He’s the only one I trust to have my back in Ev’s world, other than Ev. And myself, of course. I’m amazing, but Vlado’s good backup.”
“Thanks, kiddo.” Vlado grinned at him through the rearview mirror.
Nick blew him a kiss. “Love you. You big goober.”
“Love you too, kid.” Vlado’s voice was heavy with affection.

The found family is everything. I love every single one of them (Nick baby ❤️).

I just kept my eyes on the man I was falling for and danced for him.

This one is about Quinn (28 year old), a character I've loved since Nick's book. He was a porn star, now online hot content creator and is in the middle of starting his construction business. He's a business man, a very smart guy and one of those people who can talk about everything.

“I get how other people might lust after that, but I know you. I know who you really are. That’s the person I’m attracted to. That’s the man I wanted on my arm tonight, the man who rocked my world and gave me the best kiss of my life.”

And his boyfriend is Tristan (38 year old), a single dad and veterinarian whose ex-husband is a real dick (and not the good kind). I love the confidence he has, and the way he trust Quinn with everything. It made me so sad to think that he spent 14 years with a despicable being. How could he endure that psychological abuse and still be the best father for his son. He's so strong. The epilogue made me so so happy. Quinn adopting Leo is the best thing ever.

“I talked to my dad about it on my last visit,” he said shyly. “I love him, and he’ll always be my father, but he’s not my parent. You are. You’re the one who’s there for me. Who takes care of me and loves me, even if I’m not yours. You’ve chosen to be my father, and I want us to be a real family forever.”

I love single dads. It just adds a lot of cuteness and tenderness with the way they protect their sons, and the way the other MC treats the kid. It's that why I feel that in this book Leo, the child, should have been more present. He doesn't have a conversation with Quinn after he knows about his relationship with his father, and their interactions aren't enough for me. I think the first one with the cat, when they meet each other, is the only one. The rest of the time is just Quinn and Tris. I missed Quinn chatting with the rest of the crew about liking a man, or with his parents. He came out behind the pages. I didn't like that. And the first time Quinn touches Tris's dick is the same, it's not narrated, just says it happened. I know he's surrounded by queer people, but he didn't even flinch or doubt the minimum when he discovers he likes a man. Not a single though about that, or a chat with his dads or friends.

I’d just kissed my best friend because I wanted to. I’d enjoyed it, and I wanted to do it again.

And I love when the characters are sex workers of any kind. The porn's world is just so interesting to me. I liked a lot when Quinn was talking about it. And the fake-not-fake date at the wedding was so fun and emotional. It was a really good starting for the "more" in their friendship.

I can’t say anything that will erase what happened to you, but I’d rather jump in front of a speeding bus than hurt you.

But I gotta say, it was so easy and perfect, and I needed a little bit more of drama between them, maybe created by the ex, or the kid, or whatever. I'm starting to see that I love characters who made things complicated, and these two had a too mature and communicative relationship for my liking.

“Besides, it’s a massive ego boost to know you’re posting a stiffy inspired by yours truly while your fans drool over you from afar. They wish this was for them. I know it’s because of me.”

I enjoyed this book a lot because I love the characters, but I missed a few important things because they weren't narrated. And I was hoping more interactions with the other boys. But they have the cutest confesion of I love you ever. In the middle of Quinn bottoming for the first time.

3.75 because it read a lot like River 2.0. I loved their story and Quinn showed up way differently than he had since the beginning of the Crimson Club series, surprisingly. Still witty and capable but inwardly struggling, not flawed but more complex...in a good way.

Criticisms:
I just think the single dad thing lacked the actual centricity of the kid in their equation, unlike ....Colin's story from Cora Rose (for example) which really rooted the kid in the center of their life and grounded their relationship... which is honestly what happens, unavoidably, IRL...

But I'm not going to be that person because it's fun and fluffy and I'm not taking score about what's accurate because vibes are vibing and all that. I devoured it in one day(ish) without having to take a headspace break (hello Gods of Ruin, I see you seeing me from my shelf...my emotional ruin).

Ehumm...moving on,
I mean really, Quinn and Tristan were lovely. Just like all the other Crimson love stories so far. Just fun and light. The right amount of well paced entertainment without a ton of bat shit or drama. That is not to say that this doesn't definitely highlight the lasting impact of being part of an emotionally abusive relationship and how it shapes one's perception of self and their self-worth. But it does this in a way that's not uncomfortably heavy. It borderline triggers without a full on trauma response to the characters experience.

The body neutrality//positivity was nicely inclusive (River 2.0+Hayden) as well as the spiraling ADHD but........
You know what??
I wish when it came to the intimacy scenes, Dixon would have walked us through the motions of the characters having awkward spiraling thoughts during intimacy unable to focusing on their closeness to enjoy themselves, intrusive thoughts be damned. Spiraling, 12 tabs too many open and body sensory overload.... What the characters do to navigate those moments, because that's real shit.
I haven't yet seen that done on page, so that would have been interesting to include because iykyk. Relatable content for so many.
Rather, it was little more than a few brief mentions about how they worked through but it tended to happen on occasion but We support each other, Rah.

Speaking of love,
I love love love how absolfuckinglutely everyone is gay, left right and center. There's only forward with this series, never ever straight.

I want Valdo's story. The demi rep again (River 2.0) went into a little more detail about the more personal details of what that means, respectfully. I wonder if she'll work an ace in her series. Or nonbinary, trans, or some other than a manly muscled hot af gentle hearted dude bro himbo gay for only you man of a man (Nick excluding). All of which I love but really. We need more of the spectrum. And I feel like that it's coming out. Give me a hot smirky transman on stage and I'm deadddddddd.

But if you think you're going to read River 2.0 and not immediately want to go into Jett's story ....I mean, maybe that's possible, but I doubt it very much, thank you.

3.5/4. I love the Crimson Club series and I always love seeing all the guys in each book. Quinn has been so much fun in the previous books and I was thrilled to see him get his own story. I love how sweet and caring Quinn is, especially to the other dancers. It was fun to see him share that side of himself with Tristan, too. I love how real and down to earth Tristan is. He's just a regular guy who falls in love with this insanely hot porn star/stripper/contractor next door. Their meet cute was, well, cute! And I loved Tristan's son as well as Quinn's relationship with him. The added drama of Tristan's ex was fun, though I kind of wanted more. It was great to see these two become friends then lovers and I appreciate Quinn's ADHD and Demisexual storylines. I love good rep! Overall though, their conversations felt a little forced and I didn't feel the need to devour this one like the first four. I still loved it and I recommend this series to everyone I see, but this one wasn't quite my favorite. However, the series is so good, that's still high praise. 2/5 spice levels.

Notes: demi rep, divorced MC, single dad, abusive ex, sex worker, lots of animals, fake dating, friends to lovers, adhd

Tropes:
❤️ Age gap
💜 Single dad
❤️ Bi awakening
💜 Demi Rep
❤️ ADHD Rep

“You don’t have to pretend to be anything because you’re already everything.”

(ENG) This is hard to say, but this book just wasn't for me. I love this series and maybe River and Zane set the bar too high, but the reality is that I couldn't relate to Quinn (even though I was looking forward to reading his book), let alone Tristan or their story.
I found it sad that the whole conflict revolves around the evil ex-husband, but my biggest question marks were about the tropes. We have a single dad with an absent child and a 10 year age gap where the younger one acts as the "protector" of the older one.
Still, the book has cute moments that are very sweet and the boys' appearances are, as always, well done.
Now I'm looking forward to the last book of the series!

Such a sweet story, with two characters who have disabilities and flaws
I loved how they worked around that and how they managed to - not ignore the disability - but liver with it and accepted each other as they are.

A rare thing in reality and even in books sometimes.

The relationship is sweet and develops naturally ...
I think I will have to read the previous books in this series as well
