What the actual f*ck was this!?? Are the people who are giving this book high ratings reading the same book I've been reading? I don't want to be mean, so I'll try my best not to be, buuuuuut:
1. Where is the plot of this book? I could not continue reading the exact same arguments and concerns I had read ten chapters before. I just couldn't. To add insult to injury, there was absolutely nothing happening. No character development, no new characters, no mysteries to uncover, NOTHING!
2. Is the author aware of time lapses within a story? Is a genuine question because I lost track of what was happening and when. I could not understand how many things can happen in ONE single night: these women showed up, had to convince him to let them stay, met his family, then had dinner, the two main characters apparently go on a walk through the castle where she accepts his proposal, they come back, he gets upset when she asks about his past and leaves, then they go to bed but she can't sleep and goes looking for him, then she finds him in his room taking a bath, goes in and they kiss, apparently she, a virgin, wanted to keep going, then he kicks her out, he can't sleep so he goes to the library to read, talk to a friend then they play chess. Mind you that these women apparently had shown up in the middle of the night to begin with. A fact that is stated several times! So, again, I ask how long is this night supposed to be? How is this possible?
3. Furthermore, this man is labelled a "beast" all because of his appearance. So you mean to tell me that this man was kidnapped, tortured and then scared I guess and comes back to his people only to have them be cruel and label him a beast because of the atrocities he endured??? Yes, sure, anyone in their right mind would be pissed off for a decade or two and be traumatised after such an ordeal, but that doesn't mean he's a beast!! What were the arguments the author used to back up her statements? I guess I missed the part where the author SHOWED instead of TELLING fourteen thousand times how ferocious and beastly this man was, which is why he was tormented and thought he didn't deserve love. Never mind that the "love" he is referring to is a woman he met one, two or three days ago... I'm not sure because it is impossible to tell how much time has passed by in the book. I guess no one eats meals? That is literally one way to show how much time has passed in books.
This concludes my rant. I just couldn't deal with the lack of description, world building, character development, repetitiveness, and just overall senselessness.
What's more disturbing is that there are people who think this is good. My head hurts 😫! To those people who might read this review, I urge you to please look up: Julie Garwood, Judith McNaught, Lisa Kleypas Elizabeth Hoyt, Eloisa James, Kerrigan Byrne and Elisa Braden if you want something more modern, and Tessa Dare if you want something decent but with less angst. These are fantastic authors all within their own right. Ones are a but more dramatic than others, but what they all have in common is talent. The ability to pull you into their stories, their worlds to the point that you find yourself thinking about what's happening to a character in this book when you're doing other stuff in the day. You find yourself looking forward to reading what happens next. These are just a few. There are many more authors within this vast genre who write beautifully. Please look them up!

This is the start of a new series by Ms. Madigan and if they are all like this one you would not want to miss even one. Emma is the leader of her 4 sisters and when their evil cousin tries to force her to marry him by throwing her eldest sister in the dungeons as a witch they decide to run. They end up in the castle of a Laird that everyone is afraid of because he wears a mask on his face. He agrees to protect them all if Emma will marry him. Hunter has his own demons that he doesn't want to share or burden anyone else with but through time they find that the demon is one and the same. The love that ends up between the two of these people is wonderful.
The love story of Lady Emma and Laird Hunter. Emma and her sisters have been abused by her cousin Geoffrey. They run away from their clan to get away from an angry despot Geoffrey. But end up trying to seek sanctuary from a storm at the clan of laird Hunter. With his scars and fearsome reputation, it the last place they want to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it very quickly and had trouble putting it down. It has delightful characters and an awesome storyline. It's a well written book. Try it, I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Hunter, heir to clan MacRoss was held captive for 8 years before his escape. Since then he is a changed man. Scarred, withdrawn, grumpy, and stern. Emma and her sisters were left with no choice but to flee their home in clandestine Clyde and run for their own safety from their evil cousin who has tormented them for years. When they arrived at the gates of clan MacRoss seeking sanctuary, they did not receive a warm welcome. However, their meeting with Hunter ended with a surprising proposal in return for his protection. Interesting storyline and characters.
Meet Hunter, he was kept in the dungeon in the worst of conditions. Then comes Nora. Clan Clyde's healer. Thrown in the dungeon because the Laird Geoffrey , wants his cousins to marry him to give him Power. Archie is Hunter's first man at arms. Nora has three sisters. All of whom steal away in the dark and end up at Hunter's castle seeking sanctuary to save them from their cousin Geoffrey. Hunter offers them a choice. One of the sisters must marry him, and he will help The sisters in any way they need..
I so enjoyed reading this one. I can’t wait for the other sisters stories. I loved the characters and storyline so much. From start to finish I didn’t want to stop reading. I had a feeling of who was responsible for the killings. He was nasty too! They took a chance and it worked out so well. Emma and Hunter were perfect for each other. On to my next story. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
To protect her sisters after they flee their home and run to Mac Ross Castle, Emma agrees to marry the Laird but vows never to succumb to him. This emotionally charged story drew me in and had me all caught up in the characters and secrets they all had. It is a well written story that kept me glued to the pages as I connected with Hunter and Emma. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
I am a very big fan of historical romance though this one did not disappoint it was a good read. I do which more of a physical description was given to the characters especially the women, it helps to visualize and bring the characters to life along with the plot. Anyway it's A good read looking forward to the next sister story, hope it has more action but then I guess that depends on the plot.
8 years locked away then finally free the highlander meets runaway sisters who requested safety from their cousin their clan laird. Hunter the highlander's name agrees to give them their request but one must become his bride. Who he wants as a wife you must get this book to find out. Good story flow...... I had to go and purchase the next book to see what the next sister is up to.
Fascinating to follow these 4 sisters in such danger! I was glued to Hunter & Emma’s interactions & struggling relationship. Perfect ending! Delightful tale to read over & over. Eloise descriptive writing has you walking thru the corridors & dungeon with the characters!
If you like Highland romance, suspense, with love and a bit of mystery then you will love this! I love the intrigue of the story and the presentation of it and its characters. You fall in love with them and the situation they are all in. A great entertaining read.
An exciting story of deception, fear of tomorrow, and hope for the future! Emma and her three sisters are running from their evil cousin, who has taken over their clan when parents died! Come to the castle of Laird McRoss, Hunter, who is at first wary of them, thinking ambush. But as ladies slowly let their story out, troubles begin!
I enjoyed this read but there weren't mention of Laird's scar? Laird were swimming without the leather mask. Lady don't see his scar, like ever? How was her reaction when he removed his leather mask? Did the author forget or wasn't important to write about it? Or did I download a bad file? Comon give me something. Also the ebook has more typos.
The story was good but not very descriptive. I really like stories that describe the characters (especially the main characters) in detail. This story did none of that . You didn’t get even so much as the hair color or eye color of Emma . It needed more and also had some typos.
Trying to find out what and why they took Hunter from his family and why Emma and her sisters are are forced to run from her family. Bringing both together to find answers that they may not want to face. But the need to face it is what will bring a new way forward.
I enjoyed this story very much however I will say better proof readers are needed as the last fourth of this book has many typos and misspellings, (in the kindle version). You feel the horrific memories that Hunter struggles with daily and Emma's heartache as she tries to understand his actions and roller coaster emotions.
What a romantic story in the highlands. The passion between Emma and Hunter is off the charts! I loved that she thought to sacrifice her happiness for her sister's protection, however, she finds so much more with laird Hunter.
I am newer reader of Ms.Madigans and I am enjoying her books very much! She is a talented writer and knows how to tell a story! Characters are well developed and you come to love their story! Looking forward to more!!
I love a historical romance and this one caught me with sharp hooks at the beginning but i ended up skimming through rolling my eyes to get to the plot line that was at best, just a time filler!
Good premise and the first chapters were good, but just lost its way alittle.
Fleeing for safety in ancient Scotland is full of danger. When Emma saves her eldest sister and helps the younger sisters escape, she never realized the grouchy laird might be her saviour or at least her way out.
This is a great start for a series. I read book 2 before I read this Book. The storyline and the characters are intriguing. I love reading Highland Historical Romances.
Eloise Madigan writes a story with so much feeling. Although a love story of the ages the steamy parts are so romantically written. A little steamy and slot of love.
