i always feel like im cheating when i read an art book because there's so often few essays. i did read the little prefaces which were like okay so i knocked it down a star. but the covers were slay and i liked that they have the context in the captions.
My late lovely nanna bought me this book and I'll treasure it always. Since I was about 13 I've been obsessed with Kate Moss. I spotted her photo in a newspaper on a bus and I was instantly infatuated. That's why I started reading Vogue. I bought it every month for years and refused to throw them out. They're currently in boxes in my parents attic ha! I loved the artistry and the craftsmanship that goes into creating these stunning images. These women, these goddesses are transformed from mere clothes-horses into amazons with money-can't-buy luxuries that poor kids like me could only dream of. I still dream of. I mean look at Kate on the cover! She's stunning! This book showcases the evolution of fashions not only clothes but styles and magazines and women. It's our history.
I don't think I ever read a Vogue Magazine in my life. But I have always been attracted to their covers - especially the one's from the 50's when they used photographers like Coffin and Rowlings.
In this incredible volume it starts around World War 1 to the Kate Moss years, and it's all pretty good. But again the 50's were really cool with the deep colors and the fonts and design that has a tinge of Surrealism. Actually they're erotic.
