Rate this book
Inventive, glamorous, gorgeous—since the beginning  Vogue has set the platinum standard for fashion magazines the world over and has become an icon in its own right. Vogue ’s covers sum up the superlative visual ideals of the whole magazine. For the first time, this book brings together in one volume nearly a century of covers both illustrated and photographic. Over 200 stunning images have been selected from an archive of more than 1,500. What sets Vogue ’s covers apart is that each is so bold, so beautiful, and so emphatically different. They mark the course of history, chart changing fashions and ideas of beauty, and hold up a mirror to the cultural and social revolutions of the 20th century. Since 1916 Vogue ’s covers have celebrated the most striking women of our age, captured by the century's leading photographers, the greatest artists, and the most inventive fashion. Brilliant, captivating, and full of life, this is the face of the world’s most influential magazine and the original style bible.

Nice quick overview of British Vogue covers. My favourite will always be that Irving Penn one from April 1950. Am glad I found out about Toto Koopman.

The cover photo they chose is lovely and whatnot, but Kate kind of looks like she's having a bad period.

i always feel like im cheating when i read an art book because there's so often few essays. i did read the little prefaces which were like okay so i knocked it down a star. but the covers were slay and i liked that they have the context in the captions.

My late lovely nanna bought me this book and I'll treasure it always. Since I was about 13 I've been obsessed with Kate Moss. I spotted her photo in a newspaper on a bus and I was instantly infatuated. That's why I started reading Vogue. I bought it every month for years and refused to throw them out. They're currently in boxes in my parents attic ha! I loved the artistry and the craftsmanship that goes into creating these stunning images. These women, these goddesses are transformed from mere clothes-horses into amazons with money-can't-buy luxuries that poor kids like me could only dream of. I still dream of. I mean look at Kate on the cover! She's stunning! This book showcases the evolution of fashions not only clothes but styles and magazines and women. It's our history.

I don't think I ever read a Vogue Magazine in my life. But I have always been attracted to their covers - especially the one's from the 50's when they used photographers like Coffin and Rowlings.

In this incredible volume it starts around World War 1 to the Kate Moss years, and it's all pretty good. But again the 50's were really cool with the deep colors and the fonts and design that has a tinge of Surrealism. Actually they're erotic.

Great book with more than 200 covers, from 1916 to 2006, and related short explanation of the context.
