There is nothing like the race to locate Jack Reacher to get the blood pumping. Diane Capri's Hunt for Reacher series does that and more with each passing novel. Based around the popular Lee Child books, Capri and her cast of characters are constantly on the hunt for the elusive and nomadic Jack. After an apparent spotting of Reacher, FBI Special Agent Kim Otto arrives in Atlanta to piece things together, only to find a case all its own awaiting her expertise. Capri delivers another great novel with a story sure to hook the reader!

After an attack at Atlanta’s airport, a former NYPD detective is able to thwart an apparent murder. However, things take a turn when both the detective and the apparent attacker are killed later that day. The hook, there is a connection to Jack Reacher, which sends FBI Special Agent Kim Otto to investigate. She’s been on the trail for Jack Reacher for a long time and is not ready to drop the ball. Otto rushes to the scene, only to learn that she missed Reacher and has a murder investigation to handle.

While working the murder case, Otto discovers that it might help her locate Reacher. With the killers remaining one step ahead, Otto finds an unexpected resource in the elusive Reacher, who briefly emerges to shed light on the case and points the FBI in the right direction. Nothing is quite as it seems, which is chilling and problematic in equal measure.

There are more than two murders with which to contend, as Otto and Reacher discover that these criminals have highly destructive plans in the works, as part of an eco-terrorist demonstration. Racing through the rural parts of North Carolina to solve the case, Otto must first find the killers while also trying to keep Reacher on her radar. Capri delivers another stunning thriller that keeps Reacher just out of arm’s reach!

I have long enjoyed the work of Lee Child and his Jack Reacher series. This was complemented when Diane Capri began writing her Hunt for Reacher series, which adds new depth to an already electric series. Capri crafts a strong narrative foundation that keeps the reader guessing from the outset. Using some of the Reacher storylines as a launching point, Capri builds wonderful momentum to keep the reader straddling knowledge of both series. Characters find their own way to flavour the story and keep the reader eager to learn about progress, as well as backstories. The ongoing hunt for Reacher proves central to the series as a whole, as well as character development for Otto. Plot points are key to pushing things along, as well as paralleling the Reacher book on which this story is based. Capri does well to match Child’s work, while also providing her own unique perspectives. I am eager to see what awaits and how series fans will next be dazzled!

Kudos, Madam Capri, for another great read!

Diane Capri has created a great character when she came up with FBI agent Kim Otto. Tracking Jack is the latest attempt to find Jack Reacher and boy do she come close. This was another good story although I thought it stumbled somewhat in the action scenes in the end. I think the different characters popped up both here and there in an unlikely way, still I had a good time reading it and I will most certainly continue reading this series. Anything Reacher, right?

Not her best work. Too many favorable coincidences, impossible scenarios, and confusing movements. Awkward complications and far too many "escapes." Whoever did the editing must have been sleeping, and I seriously doubt that Lee Child was pleased.

slipping

I have loved all the previous books in the series but this one, not so much. It was disjointed and jumped around with lots of unexplained impossibilities.

This was simply too unbelievable. Neither Black nor Molina nor Otto and her crew would escape the situations Capri continued to put them in. Also the continuity was a mess, she lost her phone but got a text from Gaspar. I loved the premise of ecoterrorism, which gave it the second star.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. Not the Diane Capri writing we once knew. Looks more like a really bad version of Dan Ames’ bad writing.

As recommended by the author, I am glad that I re-read the Jack Reacher source book, Gone Tomorrow, before this Kim Otto story. This story is so complex with so many characters directly from Gone Tomorrow, I felt I was reading a continuation. Kim and her partner, Reggie Smithers, are summoned by Lamont Finlay because of a suspected pending domestic terrorist attack. Theory is that Reacher is also investigating since it appears to be involve former police detective Theresa Lee and her just-murdered partner, Ed Docherty. Reacher had partnered with them in Gone Tomorrow. Otto is actually relieved that this time Charles Cooper doesn’t seem to be in control of these recent events, and it’s Finlay who is providing the starting clues and assistance, as needed. Otto and Smithers are dispatched to pursue the terrorists and, hopefully, finally find Reacher at the same time. As events occur that point toward a relentless terrorist group, Otto and Smithers join with Lee and are immediately thrust into a non-stop chase for an unknown group, using unknown killers, readying to hit unknown locations in the U.S. 100 percent non-stop thrills and action. While this story can be a standalone, it is an advantage to enjoy the story most if you have previously read the Jack Reacher source book. The characters flow together into a fascinating read that you can’t put down. I am really looking forward to see where this goes next. Really great series.

Soooo baaaad.....

I am shocked that Lee Child would allow his franchise character to be involved in one of the most unbelievably juvenile, over the top chaotic, story that was so full of b.s. it had me rushing to finish just to be done. I should have used my better judgement and returned this loaner about 30% of the way through.
Someone needs to explain to the author the sheer impossibility of human beings experiencing what her characters did throughout the book.
You cannot keep a constant flow of violence, physical injury, gunshot wounds, vehicle crashes, exposure to toxic chemicals, falls onto hard surfaces, continual injuries, all while breathing toxic air from some amazingly omnipotent fire that they seem to always be able to outrun. Attack armed opponents without getting shot. Run through hail storms of bullets. Win fights with vastly superior enemies.
Gag me. This was a horrible book. I'd expect better from an 8th grader.
Too much. Too unbelievable. Too many plot holes. Too much over the top "action". No nuance. No subtext or calm, thoughtful narration building toward a climax.
This was the equivalent of reading a 1980s Kung Fu movie filled with nothing but fights and one character defeating 100 enemies....4 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

I have read all of these books in quick succession and this one is by far the WORST. Otto who is usually a strong character seemed like she was along for the ride to Lee when she is usually sharp in her instincts and quick to put things together. The absurdity of all the death- defying situations was ridiculous. Not to mention, all of the errors…did anyone proofread this book?!? One minute Lee has to leave the hotel to get cell signal and the next she is calling her boss twice from her room. Another minute, Otto looses her cell phone in a cave and the next she is using her flashlight. And who the hell is this Zoe character in the beginning who saves Lee from this out of the blue, unfounded attack and then never appears again. Total waste of time. I am disappointed in Capri with this book. She clearly was going too fast to publish another book and didn’t take the time or thought to develop a plot or even realistic storyline. I will read the next only because I have already purchased it but if it follows the same pattern as this book, it’s my last.

I love this series. This one though was a disappointment. It was confusing and felt unedited. Otto lost her phone. Not long later she gets a text and then later another. She is said to empty her gun shooting at bad guys and half a page later is shooting again without reloading. She and Smithers go for chapter after chapter of shooting at bad guys without ever reloading or running out of bullets. One person is said to have been caught by bad guys not long after leaving Otto but had time to hide evidence in a complete different location. Too many contradictions. Diane Capri is usually a much better writer than this. Not sure what happened but hoping the next book is back to her normal quality.

Truly a Spellbinding Read!!

Kim Otto's search for Jack Reacher takes a very different and dangerous pathway in Diane's newest release.
Both Otto and her new partner are fighting for their lives as they get embroiled in thwarting a strong plot to bring the United States to it's knees. With the seemingly good intel that Jack is also working the same issue, she feels her chances to find him are excellent and they throw themselves into situation after situation in an attempt to finally catch him. Gaspar and Finlay help. The plot is devious, thrilling and unbelievable but certainly one of her best. Wonderfully entertaining!

A retired NYPD detective thwarts a terrorist attack. Coincidentally, he has ties to Jack Reacher and an earlier terror attack in New York. Several hours after the Atlanta incident, both the detective and terrorist are both dead. Kim and her new partner, Smithers, are still on the hunt for Reacher. Gasper is still helping from the sidelines. Kim is also helped by Theresa Lee, another retired NYPD detective who also has ties to Reacher. I think this is one of the best in the series so far. It is very fast-paced and thrilling. I can’t imagine the massive amount of research that the author must have done to write some of the scenes in the book!

Tracking Jack - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Diane Capri's Tracking Jack is a tense thriller that homages Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow - a Jack Reacher bestseller.
FBI Special Agents Kim Otto and Reggie Smithers must use a new source as the hunt for Reacher continues, amidst an eco-terrorism plot with US Government involvement.
Guaranteed to grip you firmly by the imagination throughout, you won't want to miss Tracking Jack at any price.

Wow! One of Diane Capri's best works!

I have read this entire series and this is the best so far. It got me interested at the get go and kept me reading well into the night. The chase scenes were so well done it felt like I was watching a movie. The forest fire was well described. I really enjoyed the chase as Black and Molina fired at them on the service road surrounded by fire! It was thrilling!
And Reacher was so close! I think Kim is finally learning that he's not the angry thug she thinks he is. Oh, I can't wait for more! Thank you!

I like this series and characters a lot but this one is a stretch, I'm afraid.

chasing bad guys is one thing but a demonic environmental terrorist group with a far fetched plan to attack 10 sites in the US at once using dupes who were abused women as the foot soldiers is really going too far.

and having Reacher slink around in the shadows as a silent help meet is creepy.

this book ties in to the one about the subway suicide woman. apparently a young man died in that book but I don't remember that part. his brother is a prime villain in this one.

A Little Better Jack, Same Plot

As a die hard Reacher fan, I read every Hunt for Reacher book carefully to see if Capri is taking liberties with my favorite character (Jack). She does a better job this time convincing us that she knows Reacher and how he operates, but once again gets to the action about 65% of the way in and stays with action only (much of it unrealistic), stopping character development. How long will this same plot continue?

This was the best Otto/ Reacher novel yet . I reread Gone Tomorrow prior to reading this and it helped with overall experience of this book. But the complex
plot was really great !!! Can't for next chapter . Maybe that will explain why Cooper wasn't involved till end. 10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause

This book is ridiculous. Nothing makes any sense. So much random action - first fighting then running through a forest fire then jumping off a cliff then being blown up then back to the forest fire.
Many saves by helicopters that magically appear out of no where.

Truthfully - the plot is an insult to any thinking person who is not high on drugs.

A quick and jostling read. Capri's style is becoming almost too jerky, with action scenes almost too improbable to accept as something that would actually happen. Injuries that seemingly slow down our heroes, only to be non-existent in the next sequence, with no consequences on those next bits of action.

Almost too much to carry the reader forward, looking for the next tasty bite.

do not appreciate being forced to buy the next book

I have bought and read all the hunt for Jack Reacher books. Can’t remember any of them ending like this. As much as I have enjoyed them, I do not like cliff hangers. Sorry but this is the last one for me.

Good book. As always, fast paced and action packed. There were a few inconsistencies, which a good copy editor would have caught: First, Zoe's hair was blind, then dark (within the same scene). Then, Lee gives the USB to Otto in the cave, and in another chapter, Otto finds it in the fire tower.

Not the best. Disappointing

So confusing and disjointed. Far far from the previous books. So many continuation errors and confusing shifts. Try another book in the series, not this one.

Don’t start reading unless you have time to follow FBI agents Otto and Smithers down the rabbit hole all the way to the end- or you’ll find yourself thinking about it all the time! Fast paced, great characters, more glimpses of Jack Reacher and an explosive end. Totally enjoyable!!

Another ripping yarn with Kim Otto who gets closer than ever to Reacher, but not quite close enough. Otto is simply invincible, the amount of bullets that whiz within inches of her and not hit the target is incredible! She has more lives than a cat. The search for Reacher goes on.

One of the best yet!

Grabbed my interest immediately and never let go. High adventure and of course Reacher helps from the shadows. And a tantalizing finish. Highly recommended.
