Taylor Young was born a tennis prodigy, the daughter of one of the greatest players of all time. Her success was almost guaranteed. That is, until underdog Mackenzie Bennett started rising in the ranks and threatening her position as the number one player in Women's Tennis.
Mackenzie Bennett worked for everything she's ever had. Even the summer training camp she attended with prodigy Taylor Young. When their friendship turned sour after a love confession, Mac swore to destroy Taylor - on and off the court.
When these two former friends go head-to-head in the season's biggest Grand Slams, will they be able to stay professional or will their resentments bubble and reignite a fire they denied for decades?
I wasn’t sure if I would like this, only because I have not read a book from this author and some of the people I follow on GoodReads had mixed reviews. I am so glad that I gave it a chance!
Taylor was a little hard to like at first. When it was her POV, you could tell the pressure her mom put on her and in my opinion it was abuse. But during the first half of the book, when it was Mac’s POV, Taylor seemed to be mean. Can I understand that they are rivals and the pressure on Taylor is immense? Especially to stay in the closet? Yes. but even sometimes in her POV, she was mean to Mac and it was hard to like her at times.
But in the same breath, it made for great sexual tension. The spice in this book was impeccable! It was very hot and well done. Long Shot had the perfect balance of romance and tennis as well. I really enjoyed reading about the matches. The author really did her homework when it came to the sport.
I do wish there was more about the outcome of Taylor and her mom. Their dynamic was such a big theme throughout the story that I felt like there needed to be more closure and a wrap up with that relationship. We never really got to see what happened after the US Open.
I loved Babs and would love to read a book about her time as a tennis player and being outted. Long Shot was a solid 4.5 stars and I will definitely be reading more from this author!
I enjoyed this book about players on the tennis circuit. One a champion and the other up and coming, having to play the qualifying rounds. With players knowing each other as teens and lovers. Characters were interesting the coaches etc and there's fun banter and plenty of sexy times. I found the inaccurate description of the grand slams annoying. There's a 2 day gap between games not one, they don't swop benches and at Wimbledon finalists don't carry bags etc, I guess nit picking simple research. It's still a fun read, with a few loose ends, why was the coach outed, why was the mother so bitter! Perhaps there's more?
I had fun reading this book. While it’s described as enemies-to-lovers, it felt much more like pure second chance romance to me. And it was glorious. Mac and Taylor are clearly meant for each other and the stumbling block is purely Taylor, and the nonsense that Taylor’s mother, Kim, stuck in her head. When Taylor walks away from Mac for the second time in their lives, Mac’s decision and words really surprised me.
But read it for yourself and find out how it all works out!
Can there really be both between two athletes? You book personify s the relationship between two competing athletes who allow love to control the outcome. I loved it!!
First reading anything by Porter, but well done and well written. Very high amounts of smut in this one so you can be assured there's plenty of the "intimate" moments.
