The Autobiography of Robert A. Crothers
Robert A. Crothers: A Life Entwined with Stories
Some stories are too beautiful to keep to yourself, and my journey as an author is one of bringing those stories to life.
Hello, my name is Robert A. Crothers, but most people know me as Bob. I am the author of the Entangled Hearts series, a trilogy that delves deep into the nostalgia, love, and lessons of youth, inspired by my own life and romance during the transformative 1960s. These books weave together vivid memories and heartfelt reflections, aiming to bring readers into a world where love, loss, and rediscovery play leading roles.
My first book, Entangled Hearts: A Journey of Forbidden Love, published in May 2024, tells the beginning of my love story with Pam, a romance that blossomed in our teenage years in Southeastern Massachusetts. It captures the excitement of first love, the challenges we faced, and the idyllic settings of the Cape Cod area, a place where many of the landmarks now live only in memories—and in my pages.
The second book, Whispers of Yesterday: Echoes of a Forbidden Love, was released in July 2024. This book takes readers deeper into our shared history but offers a different perspective on Pam and my love story. It weaves a rich tapestry of our romance, exploring emotions and moments that expand upon the narrative of the first book, giving readers new insights into how love evolves and endures through challenges.
The third book in the series, Entangled Hearts: Is It Me You're Looking For?, released in December 2024, invites readers into Pam's perspective, giving her a voice to share her memories of our youth. Through her lens, the story takes on new depth, exploring moments of sweetness, heartbreak, and the lingering "what-ifs" of young love. Though each book can stand alone, together, they create a layered, multidimensional narrative that highlights the complexities of love, relationships, and time.
Looking ahead, the journey of Entangled Hearts doesn't end with these three books. A fourth book, set to release in 2025, will delve into the untold stories—the moments and reflections that didn't make it into the earlier volumes. It will explore the delicate and evolving dynamic of Pam and me as we navigate our newfound relationship as friends, looking back on our past with honesty while embracing the possibilities of the present. This final installment aims to bring closure to some questions while leaving room for the reader's imagination, focusing on themes of reconciliation, friendship, and the enduring connections that shape who we are.
The inspiration for writing these stories came long ago. I began writing when I was ten years old, filling notebooks with dreams and ideas. Life took me on a different path, and my passion for storytelling was set aside for over five decades. It wasn't until retirement that I rediscovered the joy of writing. What started as a way to keep busy evolved into a deeply fulfilling journey of revisiting my past and sharing my life's love, laughter, and lessons with readers.
Among the many memories that have shaped my stories, one stands out: a magical evening at Edaville Railroad in South Carver, Massachusetts. Pam and I shared a quiet moment on a train ride through a winter wonderland, surrounded by twinkling lights and the comforting sound of the train whistle. That night wasn't just a date—it was a chapter in our love story, a moment when we both realized the depth of our feelings. It's memories like these that I strive to bring to life in my writing to give readers not just a story but an experience they can feel and cherish.
My next project will explore another defining chapter of my life—my time in Vietnam. As a crew chief in the Air Force, I experienced the camaraderie, challenges, and resilience of those who served. I plan to bring these moments to life, sharing what it was like to maintain planes in a war zone, the bonds formed under pressure, and the lessons learned

Robert A. Crothers tells a fictionalized version of his life story in this moving tale of two star-crossed lovers. Entangled Hearts perfectly demonstrates how love can change the trajectory of a man's life, for better or worse. Although heartbreaking at times, Crothers' narrative is thoroughly absorbing and showcases the resilient power of love that remains embedded in a person's psyche long after a relationship is severed. This is a character-driven story based on real events, as experienced by the author. As such, Bob's time in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War serves as a backdrop to the love story, and the narrative focus is primarily on Bob and Pam's relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers of historical fiction, romance, and autobiographical memoirs.

Entangled Hearts is an emotional story about love, loss, and hope. It delves into Bob's deep connection to Pam, which serves as a testament to the power of love and the lengths one is willing to go to be with their soulmate. Bob's heart remained attached to Pam, despite the distance and tragic events that separated them. It is both inspiring and heartbreaking to see him hold onto the hope of being reunited with her one day. Robert A. Crothers tells their story so well that you will feel happy for them when they are together, sad when they are apart, and hopeful that they will reunite, yet also wishing that Bob could move on. The author executes the back-and-forth of emotions perfectly, allowing readers to connect and relate to Bob's character and his conflicting thoughts. The book has a smooth flow, with many humorous moments from Bob's military service. Overall, I enjoyed reading Entangled Hearts, and look forward to reading more from this author.

In a narrative broken into descriptive chapter titles, Robert A. Crothers shares his tumultuous feelings for a woman who still graces his thoughts. The author keeps identities secret, and readers devour quite a few pages before they learn the alias Crothers has given his girlfriend. Almost everyone has a person from the past that they believe was "the one who got away," and Crothers explains his experience in that area in vivid detail. Readers will be moved as they watch the love story open like a flower, only to wither and then reopen into a new bud and wither again. Older readers will experience a sense of nostalgia as Crothers revisits his memories of drive-ins, English Leather, and Edaville Railroad. In addition to the lessons he learns from his commitment to the lady he loves, he touches on his time in the Air Force. Entangled Hearts is a good selection for readers who enjoy real-life experiences mingled with fiction.

Entangled Hearts is mostly an autographical memoir by Robert A. Crothers. The author secures a job at the same store from which he had been caught stealing several years prior. As he worked near the soda fountain, he met a young lady who he described as "the love of my life." They date, but his insecurity and jealousy send them separate ways until after he returns from his first tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He rekindles their romance, and the couple moves to the Southwestern United States. Rumors caused the relationship to end, but the author can't outrun his need to see if he can see her again.

Confusing

I found the book very confusing. Topics jumped from one topic to another with a lot of unanswered questions. I read the entire book, hoping my questions would be answered at the end... they were not. Most of the pictures were very blurry and they ALL were captioned with "From the files of Bob Crothers."
This book was not my idea of good story telling

The author's good storytelling and portrayal of adolescence captured my heart. It’s about the love story of Bob and Pam. Their relationship started really good, crazy and heartbreaking. I personally hoped they would find one another again somehow.

This story appears to be rooted from author’s personal experience. The story swept me away and I can’t help but remember that time in my life where I was in the same situation. Whether you have similar experience or not, I am sure this book can really attract readers who are into tragic romances.

This was well worth the read. Amazing from beginning to end, can't believe Pam did him like that but that's okay. He went on and got better for himself. I'm glad I gave this a read because it did not disappoint one bit.

A deeply emotional story. The story of Bob and Pam is beautiful and heartbreaking. I enjoyed reading their story. Bob’s inability to control his jealousy, mirrors a part of myself. Dating someone out of your league is so damn difficult. But yeah, Pam is a complicated woman.

I love reading love stories based on true events. Falling in love too deeply can make or break a person. The author narrated the events wonderfully. If there is a continuation to their story, I would like to know.

Based on the author’s real life experiences, their love story is messy as hell! I hope Bob finds the love of his life whether it would be with Pam or not. Heartbreaking but beautiful story.

Loved the story! Although I just hoped that Bob has already moved on. A man like him deserves to be happy. Pam is a mess but she must also have her reasons. I enjoyed reading their story,
