Ma’xon
This is what I have been training for. Finding my mate after months of practising the art of wooing the human who is scientifically best suited for me. I am too old to feel this nervous about meeting her in person for the first time, but that won’t stop me. Now when she wakes up, I just have to convince her we are meant to be. Will she still accept me after taking her away from Earth?

Odette
The worst way to start a date? Show up late. The best way to end it? Alien Abduction. After a RomCom worthy first date, I never expected it to take an out of this world turn. When a hot giant shark man who owns his own home on a tropical planet wants to spoil me, who am I to say no? Now if only I can get him to accept his retirement so I can spoil him back.

I was excited for this one, plus size FMC and the promise of no time skip to baby had me thinking it would be a perfect no brain needed read, but I ended up just not really connecting with it, mostly because it felt quite choppy at times and the dual perspective just didn't work for me. Ma'xon felt kind of flat as a character too so I wish we had spent less time in his head.

This was a super adorable fast paced cozy romance between a plus size FMC and a plus size MMC. It was the most low-key abduction I’ve ever read, with a big focus on consent and the MMC being willing to do just about anything to help the FMC be happy. I like the premise of humans being the opposite of fertile to the wider universe. I also appreciated the casual body positivity and that the female aliens weren’t disparaged as a way to make her seem more special.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: abduction, discussion of death of parent, drugging

I didn't connect with this one. At all. And that surprised me a lot!

Despite my very real, nonfictional phobia of sharks and after seeing GR friends enjoying this, I was excited to give it a try ASAP. I love experiencing all different takes on the alien-rom, and seeing what different authors do with different tropes and creature features. And to my recent memory, I don't think I've ever tried a shark-man in space romp, so I thought, why the fins not?

If I could pinpoint where exactly I knew this would be a sinking ship for me, it was when I fully understood the premise of the plot, and what started the abduction-to-love pipeline. It really, really, rubbed me the wrong way, and so every additional plot point just became loose bricks on an already crumbling wall. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding it, in which then, please correct me if I'm wrong. Putting the premise in spoilers below:

In relation to the spice, there are some classic elements here I think will be hits for some, but I personally wasn't a fan of the focus on Daddy/pup language being the biggest one.

TLDR or if you don't want to read the spoiler: Not for me at all, or I just didn't connect with it. 2 stars because the writing wasn't horrible and I didn't really notice any big editorial mistakes. I probably should have DNF'ed, but darn it I got far enough I wanted to add it to the GR count and make it at least somewhat worth it.

For more detailed plot, trope, and spice elements, check out some of the other reviews under the book!

So sweet!!

This was honestly such a fun story to read. The softest of Abductions and the sexiest of sharks I've ever seen. Can I get myself a Shark Daddy Dom with two eggplants? Sign me up.

I loved the idea of aliens looking for their mates through a human dating app and the humans having no idea until they show up for a first date. It could have felt sinister... but it was all to absurd and sweet.

Once Ma'xon gets his lady back to his home, the love story really begins. Lots of steamy scenes as they get to know each other and watching them get all domestic was just the comfort I needed.

I will absolutely read another book in this series.

⭐⭐💫
2½ stars.

➕ What I liked :

Plus sized/full-figured heroine. 👍👍

Child-free.
(No pregnancy or babies at the end of the book.)

I also liked that humans are not fertile/super fertile to most if not all other species in the universe and/or not compatible at all when it is about fertility.

Quite original and imaginative things in the beginning of the book… with how our planet and humans were viewed etc.

No sex-slaves or slaves or ex-slaves like in so so many other sci-fi romance/monster romance books.

Humans are Not seen or used as either slaves or servants or seen as barely sentient or a lesser species.

The heroes species was also quite original and imaginative but also interesting and peculiar.

The beginning of the story/plot that was about the hero and how he explained how everything worked on other planets and his own was both good and interesting.

Rather good voice actors/narrators.

➖ What I disliked:

Disjointed.
(In different ways… but one is that the book/plot feels like it wants to be too many things or/and genres at once…. erotica, monster romance, sci-fi romance… there is one vibe of a genre/theme at the very beginning of the book before the main characters have met each other and then there is a mix of all after they have met …. and it focuses very very much on the spice/steam even-though it is not really marked as only being a erotic romance or erotica.)

The chemistry feels forced and rushed…. And the sex scenes/steam is cringey and rushed but also OTT among many other things and so are the main characters inner monologue about their thoughts about each other and their sexual thoughts about each other… and the Daddy kink is weird and forced as well and also just comes out of nowhere…. And the pet names the hero has for the heroine is 😬🥴.

And even-though it is a shorter book… the romance/romantic build-up is hardly there at all...most is just sex scenes.

How the main characters talked to each other was rather stilted and also sounded forced in some parts.

Even for a shorter book/story the plot is too thin… there was potential there in the very beginning of the plot but it just more or less petered out and became very focused on the sex scenes/smut…. There needed to be more world-building (the little there was in the beginning is interesting but was not utilized to its full potential but instead focused too much on the steam/sex scenes.)

OTT insta.

Rushed.
(It is a shorter book… but everything is so rushed from when the main characters first see each other and meet each other for the first time… it is so OTT and rushed even for this genre.)

Repetitive.

How unsure and insecure the heroine is in different ways… at least in the beginning of the book.
And how she more less does a 180 in her personality or/and behavior when she wakes up from what the hero did to her to make her pass out…. She goes from being a unsure/insecure and diffident/cautious heroine to being more or less laid back and rather OK and not that bothered with her new surroundings and situation and what just happened to her….
It is kind of a contradiction/contradictive but also a very quick and big personality or/and behavior change etc.
It is great and good that she is not cantankerous about it (her abduction/new situation) like some other heroines are in this genre… even-though she has reasons to be mad and sad etc. (like the other heroines also have reasons to be in this genre… but those are very often done in a OTT way or aimed at the wrong person/people or individuals etc.)
And it is a fresh take on the whole thing and situations/situation….
But how unflappable she is that is kind of weird…. Even-though she said herself that she had nothing to loose really in general back on earth … She was still abducted and she is on another planet and the hero is a shark man/Giant shark-like alien etc. And From how the hero is described in the book to the art of the hero on the cover… His true appearance would be quite alarming and intimidating ( The descriptions of him makes it seem more like he would look like a mix of a human and a pelagic thresher shark and a great white shark and with a little bit of the Amphibian Man from the movie The shape of water…or maybe even like Peniston's Creature from the 1998 miniseries, Creature.)
But she hardly has any negative reaction to all that and the heroes true appearance/true form…. Or it seems like she has very little in the way of a negative reaction to all that…. She is just so unfazed by it all.

It is a preference thing but the big age gap is not my thing really… and there was a rather big age gap in this one... almost 25 years (hero looks like 50+ and heroine is only 28) but really the hero is 90 or 92 years old I think it was on his own planet (his species live longer than humans) so it is much more than those 25 years really...
It was a missed opportunity to have a older heroine…. Especially since there is No pregnancy or babies…. And it also rather formulaic.

The heroine seems younger than she is.

How the hero was 8 feet tall in his own body… it is formulaic and OTT.
(From how the hero is described in the book … not only is his height and size formulaic especially his height... but his height combined with him being more or less a giant shark man/shark like alien...also makes for a very big size and height difference between the main characters which also is formulaic.)

The character description/visual appearance of the hero is a tiny bit on the contradicting side of things…
In some parts he is described as beefy and muscular while in others more “softer/soft” and thick kind of like a dad-bod body type…. it is confusing/ contradictory.

And also some things about the dating app and the way it was explained and how many things with that is rather problematic… because it is just one side that knows the truth and true purpose of it and what it really is and how it works etc. ..… while the other unknowing side thinks it is a regular dating app and has no clue what is going on really.
And the heroine is also abducted as a part of all that.
Great that she is not a slave or sex-slave or servant but she is abducted and she has things done to her body without her consent or knowledge so it is still problematic.

2.5 stars rounded up. I needed to get their 1 month conversations on the dating app before the date. We were told they had a great connection over there but didn't se any of it and felt very much right into lust and spice. so ethomes that really works for me but not this time. On a very random note: I picked this book up because I strangely dreamed I gave birth to a shark haha.

Jumping the Shark made me realise how badly I wanted to be kidnapped by a hot alien 🤣💜 Ma'xon and Odette literally were the sweetest couple EVER. Even when they have trouble communicating with each other, Ma'xon made sure to work it out with Odette (👀 in a hot way, of course).

This book was overall sweet and spicy with amazing world building (I'd love to see more of the planet they live on!). I highly recommend this to anyone who wants their kidnapping aliens sweet and their romance delightful!

If you're into shark-man X bbw female porn, this is definitely the book for you.

This book can be summed up pretty simply; it's about an alien shark man and a human girl who are 'mates'.

I give this book a solid 2 star rating. I mean, i thought i knew what i was getting into prior to going into this book, so i managed my expectations accordingly, in order that i may be able to give this book a fair rating.

It's not bad, but normally I do like books with a little more to it... this whole thing just read like a long sex scene

✨ARC Review! I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.✨

All I want is to snuggle up with my giant shark man and slurp down a bucket of noodles. Maybe also have my back blown out, but that’s secondary.

I’ve been obsessed with this book since I saw the cover and blurb (I just really like sharks 🙃). I was lucky enough to snag an ARC and I’m in love with this story! Jumping The Shark was a hilariously steamy romantic comedy that proves most of us wouldn’t mind being abducted if we get a hottie alien husband. This gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!

These two MC’s were meant to be together. Their dynamic and personalities just mesh together so well! I liked that they had met through a dating site and had already established compatibility. Even though Ma’xon was posing as a human, he was genuine and was already falling for his little pup.

Odette is SASSY! She’s hilarious and I love her banter throughout the book. She’s also completely unfazed by being abducted… she’s just excited she doesn’t have to get a job and can get double dicked out whenever she wants 😂.

Ma’xon is the daddy of our dreams! He wants to love Odette so much and absolutely spoil her. He’s very sensitive to her needs and always wants what’s best for her. Even the small act of going back to Earth for her stuffed animal says a lot. (Ladies… if he wanted to he would!)

The spice was top notch in this! The book itself is like 75% spice. There’s an age gap which plays perfectly into their daddy/pup dynamic. Ma’xon is packing with his 🍆🍆. Plus there’s a mating frenzy and his spit is an aphrodisiac. This book checks off all three boxes when it comes to fun stuff!

This might be one of the sweetest (and hottest) meet-cute abductions I’ve come across. This was such a quick, steamy, and super cute read!

I loved the whole idea behind the alien mate-matching program through an app. BRILLIANT. Their first date was such a cute introduction to the MCs, Odette and Ma’xon, and really amped the attraction and connection already there between the two of them. Ma’xon can get it ANY. DAY. The way that he adores and spoils Odette is *swoon*. And Odette? Taking this world-changing shift like a MFing champ and not letting the fact that she is now on an alien planet lessen her desire for her new shark mate.

If you’re looking for a cozy but spicy alien romance, look no further. I can’t wait to see what else comes through in the First Date Abduction series!!

Swoony romance? ✔️
Cinnamon Roll MMC? ✔️
MMC that wants to spoil his mate? ✔️
Double the fun? 🍆🍆✔️✔️

This was a sweet, spicy, quick read. I loved Ma'xon. Adorable, caring male that learns all about his mate and how to please them? Yes please!

I appreciate that consent was so important in their spicy times. The only thing I wasn't much of a fan of was the body modification without her agreeing to it.

Won't look at sharks the same again. 😆

I just have to start this review off by saying, I never knew I wanted or needed a Shark Daddy until reading this book…and now I’m very disappointed that I can’t have myself a Ma’xon!!

‘Jumping the Shark’ is the first novella in Ash Ravens ‘First Date Abductions’ series and what a FANTASTIC first novella it is! I adore all of Ash’s works and this was absolutely no exception to that.

The characters were so loveable and the world was so vivid that I could FEEL the humidity of Ma’xon’s planet! (haha) I adored Ma’xon so much, he was honestly so sweet, loving and ADORABLE! — and that’s before he just becomes the best domestic Daddy Dom which only adds a whole new level of hotness to him. Odette just…she just hit me with a LOT of self awareness because I feel like she is ME (haha) her immediate acceptance and excitement about being abducted by a huge shark alien who is her fated mate and then realising all the sexy times that could ensue was VERY relatable because, girl, SAME!

The spice was just an utter slippery delight (pun entirely intentional here as yes, it’s messy, wet and delicious!) Ma’xon packs all the delights of having a dupeen with all the special features and a mate who wants to try EVERYTHING. Another big point I, personally, enjoyed was having the mating/breeding element present WITHOUT the possibility of pregnancy! It was refreshing to be able to enjoy all the hotness of it without the risk of a random pregnancy popping up out of nowhere. The Daddy/pup dynamic was scrumptious too, as it was touched on JUST enough to be sweet (and hot, because there are moments during the spicy scenes that were…HOT haha) without verging into anything heavy in the DDlg area.

‘Jumping the Shark’ gives all the low stakes/high heat ROM-COM vibes so there aren’t too many content warnings that I think would be overly offensive. However, there are elements of alien abduction without consent, but it’s approached quite uniquely and the FMC’s acceptance and support of it softens the non-con vibes of it. But, just in case, I will list some below that I thought would be of most important (most of which are listed by the author themselves at the beginning of the book).

━━ † ━━

⚔️TRIGGER LIST⚔️

— Explicit sex scenes
— Alien abduction
— Drugging and minor body modification (without consent)
— Blood (period & mating bite)
— Scarring (from mating bite)
— Consensual aphrodisiac usage
— Parental death (natural)
— Consensual power exchange dynamic
— VERY minor hints of DDlg
— Daddy Dom
— Bratting (unplanned)
— Dupeen MMC with special features

━━ † ━━

‘Jumping the Shark’ was a FANTASTIC monster romance novella that was so good I couldn’t put it down! It’s the perfect mix of cozy, wholesome & steamy (which has become a personal favourite genre of mine, it would seem haha). I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy; monster romance, special peens, domestic daddy doms & daddy kink, mating frenzies, excessive fluids, age gap love and the most WHOLESOME of romances! I can’t wait to read more of this series when they come out! 5/5 stars!!!

A promising start to the first date abduction series!

Ma'xon finds his perfect match through dating app made to match aliens with their human mates. Odette falls head over heels for Ma'xon in his human bodysuit but even harder when she finally gets to see him in his true body. I'm a big shark fan so obviously Ma'xon was a big hit for me! The two are so sweet together (and can get downnnn if you know what I mean *wink wink*)

Dirty talk and unique peen? Yes please. Ma'xon has two, yes two dongs WITH FRILLS. Lots of daddy please, bratty behavior for fun, endless pleasure. Loved this and can't wait to see what and who Ash brings next.

I backed this project on kickstarter and received an ARC copy. This is my honest review.

This book hits all of my niche interests in fascinating ways. Ash has hit it out of the park once more, and I am just so glad that they wrote this book!

This book is not going to be for everyone, and if you're not prepared/interested in a daddy shark, then this is definitely not going to be for you.

It's a sweet, spicy, and adorable monster romance, Ma'xon is a dream as Shark Daddy. I loved every page of this novella, the world-building, the interaction with the characters and the chemistry between Ma'xon and Odette were unique from start to finish, they were made for each other. The spice was something else, Odette's kink added that spark, even more so when our shark had double peen and tasted like Carmel apple, another new flavor to add to my list of Monster Daddy's unique attributes.

I'd love to see more of this planet, I already want to get my hands on the second book of the "First Date Abductions Series”, I can assure you that the next couple will be just as unique and beautiful as Ma'xon and Odette. Ma'xon, the way he treats Odette is so sweet, he lives to spoil and love her, he's perfect, I want a shark daddy all to myself. Loved the body positivity in this book and especially Ma'xon's acceptance.

DNF 30ish% and I'm surprised I made it that far. Everything was happening too fast and it was really unrealistic in a way that I just wasn't vibing with. I couldn't really excuse the kidnapping and non-consensual body modification. The FMC was DTF way too quickly given the situation. I don't want to yuck other people's yum but I can't read calling each other Daddy and pup. Big nope.
