In a future dystopia, Zia Alexander lives in crumbling ruins playing the world’s most illegal and addictive virtual reality game. After the loss of her mother, she plays the game for her shot at freedom. Zia discovers a map that leads to Lemuria—a real fantasy world full of dragons, wicked faeries and assassins where her mother is alive, and two princes try to win her heart.
DISCLAIMER: These are my thoughts as an editor. I have so much respect for Allie Michelle as an incredible poet going into prose now. I cannot wait for the next book!!

I loved this world. I truly got immersed in it, and I’m really bummed the book is done. Despite my critiques on writing style below, I felt like this world was an old friend welcoming me home. The plot was great and flowed well.
I see soooo much potential for this author as a fantasy writer, but the writing needs some work. The same was said by me about SJM in ACOTAR, and then Maas popped off into one of my favourite writers ever. I don’t know how she upgraded so quickly but I’m not complaining.
To repeat: I have faith in the INSANE amount of potential Allie Michelle has. As a good writer, I think she can become something incredible.
Anyways back to the part where I’m a bit mean.
Main critiques:
- Plot timing: although I loved all actions points in the story, I really felt like there was more introduction needed. We needed to feel Perriculum more, get more attached to the world, to Zia. Feel her sadness and emotions there more. Connections to the characters, to Lemuria as a video game.
- Why was the dad against her playing it? He didn’t want her to choose Lemuria? But then why was he such a dick? Very unclear to me.
- The dad being so cranky seems forced, unnecessary. I would’ve done a depressed, absent father. His aggression seems over the top and then is sort of ignored by Zia in a weird way. It’s either real fucked up trauma or not needed in the story.
- Narrative style is used in a clunky way. I think 3rd person omniscient is really ambitious, it’s really difficult to be non-biased to one perspective more so than the others. It would have been better in first person from Zia’s point of view, with insights to others’ emotions from her power. I see this was sort of attempted here but it fell a bit flat. There were weird jumps from thinking that didn’t align with sentence structure (interchanging the subject referred to as “her” between characters in one sentence, for example)
- The dialogue: a) style of speech and b) cringey sentences. So for (a) I felt there was a clear wanting to use old timey, fantasy speech but that was really awkward in some of these modern characters, it felt a bit forced and was not consistent (even if she wanted Lemurians to have antiquated speech vs. Perriculum humans more modern…. this needs to be done on purpose and clearly. You can’t have Zia using words like “quite” when she’s a Gen-Zer +++ and I’m assuming not British). For (b)… Show don’t tell. So much dialogue, particularly in the first half, was really cringey, stating obvious things or people saying things in ways no one really would.
- The over descriptive outfits! Just say top and flowy pants, it felt a bit like an Urban Outfitters catalogue. These descriptions don’t matter, let people fill in outfits the way they want to.
This book is amazing! Exceptional writing kept me turning page after page and it immediately left me wanting more. Fell in love with the characters and world. It combines everything great about SJM, Twilight, and Crowns of Nyaxia, all in one, but even better! I can only hope she comes out with book 2 sooooon because this world is too good to be a one-and-done!!
This book was amazing and I highly suggest immersive reading it - audiobook is amazing and really brings it to life. But regardless I was hooked from the beginning and could not put this book down!! I’m ready for the next !
This was such a special, comfort, beautiful, book. I fell in love with all of the characters and the world. If I could give it more stars, I would. I really hope she continues the series, I have to know what happens next!
This book was such a fun read! I loved every bit of it. The story paces super well, and although it’s fantasy, it is executed in a way that it is not confusing to pick up.
The story fully emersed me, and I fell in love with Lumeria.
The characters are the best, they banter with each other well. And you find yourself completely rooting for them since they are the cutest found family!
The cliff…. Hangs. I can’t wait to pick up the next one!
The hype around this book is legit! I loved this so much! The FMC had so much growth in this book and became a true bad a** I am patiently (not really) hoping there is a book 2 soon! This was so good!
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway contest, and reading it was an absolute joy ride! Additionally, I loved the various characters in the story. For example, Zia Alexander, the human child with magic who later on we, learn is The Bridge. Hiro, Zia's best friend, who happens to be a Folder, a Lemurian who has the ability to teleport. Jace, the prince of Lemuria, banished from the kingdom by his father. Furthermore, I enjoyed the author's beautiful description of Lemuria. The only downside I found too this story is waiting for the second book in this great series to be released.

This is by far one of my top reads for 2024. The characters, the world, every poetic sentence, was beautiful beyond words. Each page just had me falling deeper and deeper in love with this creation of a story. I’m very sad this story has come to an end, I hope for another book but we will see what Allie has in store for us.

This is a beautifully executed piece of literature and I am absolutely in love with the world of Lemuria. I rated ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because there were a few peices I wished we could have more in and 3rd POV at times I wish we could have had more conversation between Zia and her companions.
I finished this in just a few days because I wanted to be in this world more than I wanted to do any daily tasks 🤣

Impression: I have not read a book that had such an immersive world that you just simply fell in love with from the beginning. The amount of quotes and references to supporting of building women up to believe they can be anything they want. Breathtakingly beautiful 🤩

I am so confused as to how this book has not blown up because when I tell you this book could be the next Throne of Glass, I’m not even kidding!
I loved this book! The writing was so beautiful and descriptive! I could see everything so vividly and the scenes she described were just stunning!
This story has EVERYTHING that an amazing fantasy needs…. - Badass FMC who has to overcome obstacles to be the amazing woman she is? ✔️ - Swoony but also broody MMC who is hot & possessive but also has a heart for only her? ✔️✔️ - Magical creatures?? ✔️ - Found Family? ✔️ - Hilarious side characters? ✔️ - Long lost magic and a quest to access it?? ✔️✔️✔️ - Dragons? DRAGONS!!!!! ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Seriously!!!! It is soo soo good!!! I can not wait for book 2!!! Everyone needs to read this book!!!
Favorite Quotes:
“Fear shows us what we love. Greed shows us what we value.”
“She was a catastrophe to who I have been. The walking, breathing manifestation of my own undoing.”
“I would rather be rejected for me than loved for someone else’s idea of me. And so, no matter how terrible things got, I held on. I embraced what they made fun of. I refuse to let my light go out, no matter how dark it became.”
“He was a strong unwavering mountain, and she was the wild sea, whose waves crashed against him and breathtaking chaos”
“Be careful of men who offer you the world when you were always meant to create your own”
“Bow to no one, but your heart”
“If you want stillness, learn your chaos. If you want bravery, learn your fear. If you won’t strength, learn your weakness. If you want freedom, learn discipline.”
The first 150 pages challenged my patience. The pacing seemed decidedly off. Things seemed to happen too quickly. I felt like I hadn't gotten to know the characters at all. And then random dangers made it feel like a fairy-tale Odyssey. The story had no flow.
And for some reason, no editor caught the word "vial" being misspelled. There were instances of viles being filled with liquid all through the book. Weird.
Anyway. The rest of the book got much better. I think the author finally slowed the story down enough to develop the relationship between the characters. And there were lots of clothing descriptions. Hmm.
ANYWAY. When Zia discovers she holds the key to a secret world, she leaves her father (who is strangely angry at her) and heads to Lemuria to find the truth of her heritage.
You can expect viles instead of vials, a pirate, sirens, fairies, a cruel king, his cruel son, dragons, magical fish, a mysterious tree creature, blue lotus flowers and midnight training.
After reviewing and sitting with the book, I really enjoyed it. I liked the read, especially in the midst of it all. The plot, storyline, and characters really honed me in - I wanted to keep reading more because I could see the world building before me.
The only things I would have to say are A) the editing - maybe it was just my version but there were some name slip ups and other confusions that were just some editing mistakes. Nothing about the story.
B) plot clunky - at some point the plot felt sped up or accelerated at supersonic speed. I enjoyed this “forced marriage” tension with Leo, but I wanted to see more of her and Leo rather than two chapters - especially if she feels some kind of empathy for this character? Interested to see how he plays into the series as we go deeper.
realistically it’s like a 3.5. i read this at the insistence of a friend because i was super skeptical when i read “VR” and “princess” in the same synopsis. i mean it’s cute, the main character wasn’t annoying which i appreciated, however the ending was like TOO open ended ya know? i love a good cliff hanger, something that leads into the second book, but after finishing it i was like okay yeah i could be done with this series ? but also i could read mother book bc wtf do you mean that’s it ? i need closure, not bc i have formed an emotional attachment to this book (trust that i haven’t) but bc i have faith that this author would not make me read almost 500 pages for that bs ending. anyway, who am i to judge i can’t write for shit okay tootles
This is the last book I’ll grab from Tik tok. 0/3 for these.
This book really missed the mark for me. The romance subplot was forced and without chemistry. The plot itself was all over the place and not nailed down. A good editor is needed for this book to really come together cohesively.
The concept was cool, but not well executed. Spelling and grammar errors all over the place, and pacing was uneven and hard to get into a groove with.
Pages and pages on outfits and hair that takes paragraphs to get tamed every other chapter. I slogged through this book and it took me 5 days of just pushing through these chapters between other books to finish.
I want to give this 4 stars but the ending did nothing for me. (I’m assuming this is going to be a trilogy) I will say that this book has some of the most amazing quotes and imagery. Allie Michelle knows how to write in a way that allows you to imagine exactly what’s going on. I felt like there was a lot of character growth which I love but not a lot was done with the skill set that Zia gained. As beautiful as it was I felt like it was slow. There were many parts that intrigued me and I thought it was going to become epic and then it never came.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I love the quotes and wisdom this book has to offer but overall it was just okay.
I absolutely loved everything about this book.. the characters, the plot, the story. I cannot wait for book two! This story follows Zia who plays an illegal virtual game in "Lemuria" at a chance to earn her freedom. He mother pasted away when she was born. Zia finds a map to the real Lemuria while playing the game with her best friend Hiro. In Lemuria her mother is actually alive and two princes are fighting to win her heart! I felt a strong connection to Zia through this book and we really saw her develop into such a stronger and more independent woman in this first book!
Dystopian Romantacy Self Discovery Found family Forged Friendships Dragons Fae Sirens & soooo much magic!!!
I really appreciated the concept of this book and the end third of the book I enjoyed a lot ! I think the author has so much potential and I’m excited to keep up with her work and continue to see her grow and flourish as an author.
It was a fun read but the story felt incredibly predictable for me. It didn’t leave me with something to gnaw on or think about deeply. I wasn’t surprised by anything. I think this story would suit a younger audience and would’ve really positively impacted me in my early/late teens. It was enjoyable but not groundbreaking.

Good read, it feels very YA (didn't actually look to see if it is marketed that way or not), and the FMC drove me a little nuts (she just seemed to accept all this crap happening to her without a second glance), but it was still an enjoyable book. I hope there's a second one, it didn't feel very wrapped up.
The pace at the beginning was weird. The character relationships felt super rushed 'there was so much we'd kept from each other' ---they'd known each other for two days. It did even out a lot later.
I really struggled to love this book as much as I wanted to. The premise was super intriguing and I was really looking forward to a dystopian/fantasy book. This reminds me of the movies Ready Player One and Free Guy. I just had a hard time with the pacing mostly it just felt as though important stuff was rushed while other things were slowed waaay down that really didn’t need to be. This made me struggle with immersing myself into the story and made me not really want to pick the book up. I do have to say the last 25% picked up a lot and was pretty enjoyable.
I adore this book. Allie’s writing is filled with descriptions that has Lemuria floating off the page and into the sky above you. There’s deep wisdom woven throughout the entire book, from the very beginning. There’s also a level of comfort with the characters as if you know them personally. If you’re anyway involved with spiritually you will instantly feel the parallels in this story. As stated in the book, the best way to tell the truth is through a story. I’m excited for the series to continue!
This story has great potential, and clearly Allie has the potential to become an amazing writer.
I'll admit, the beginning really had me, but as the story went on, kind of lost me a little bit. I still enjoyed this book, and look forward to what other stories Allie may tell.
4.5 stars! This book resparked my love for reading fantasy! The last few months I have kind of fallen out of love with reading and was doing bc I felt that I had to. Legends of Lemuria reminded me why I love reading so much. I loved everything about this book. The world, the plot, the characters, the friendship, the romance… all of it. I was hooked right from the beginning and it kept my attention the entire time. I can’t wait for the next book!
I found myself wanting to highlight/write down lines from this book. They felt like messages meant directly for me. So I feel guilty giving it 3 stars but once I got to part 3, then 4 stars but it was hard for me to get into it until then. I also stopped in between part 1 & 2 for quite some time so maybe that had an impact on it. I probably would have enjoyed this more if I wasn’t in a weird mood with fantasy books right now because the world building was just too much for me right now.
THANK YOU TikTok for leading me to read the richest most immersive fantasy-dystopia world building with kick-ass characters and dragons. I was lowkey nervous before I read it because I have read books I saw on TikTok before that are major misses but this was the exact opposite, in fact it actually might be one of my favorite reads in the last few months. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The book has such an INCREDIBLE concept. Needs some editing work and someone to help with some character development in the first half of the book. The SECOND HALF?! Stellar. Fantastic. Super easy to read. I genuinely love the story and concepts, and I desperately hope there will be more books. Please please please!
Enjoyed the overall premise of the story. Usage of a VR game was unique. Still a little confused by the importance of the map because it hasn’t really come in to play yet. I did feel that there needed to be a little more time spent with world building throughout the story. I also felt it was hard to connect with the characters and really grasp their relationships with each other at times.
This was a good book all around but I can’t help but feel like it dragged at some parts. Not only that but the ending?! I wanted to see more of Jace and Zia and not only that but how she would get the rest of the stones and take down the king. I wanted to see what else there was to Leo and I feel disappointed by the ending. Just wishing there was more to the story like perhaps a second book.
