The Starwielder by Ian Cassidy is like stepping into a whirlwind of cosmic chaos and epic adventure! Imagine being jolted awake from a 500-year snooze in a volcano – that's Minax Bolide's wakeup call! But he's not alone in this wild ride. Enter Cyngosa Maelstrom and Khelu Odena, a duo with more backstory than a soap opera. Cyngosa's haunted by angelic visions, while Khelu's a refugee orphan – talk about a motley crew!

Things kick into high gear when they're roped into a "once in a lifetime" gig by the enigmatic Dorrion Chrisbane. Picture this: ancient relics, conspiracy theories, and a dash of magical abilities – it's like Indiana Jones meets Harry Potter! But hold onto your hats, 'cause this ain't your average treasure hunt. Nope, they're up against governments, evil forces, and probably the occasional angry volcano.

As they journey deeper into the rabbit hole, Cassidy keeps the adrenaline pumping with plot twists sharper than a dragon's claw. And the characters? Oh boy, they're as real as your next-door neighbor – if your neighbor happened to wield cosmic powers and battle existential threats. But hey, who doesn't love a little drama with their destiny?

But wait, there's more! Just when you think you've got it all figured out, Cassidy throws in a curveball – or should I say a holy weapon relic called Alpha and Omega? Suddenly, Minax's gotta save the world, make friends, and deal with the fact that most folks aren't too thrilled about his existence. Talk about a hero's journey!

In the end, "The Starwielder" isn't just about saving the world. It's about embracing who you are, even when the odds are stacked against you. So grab your popcorn, buckle up, and get ready for a rollercoaster ride through the cosmos – because with Cassidy at the helm, anything is possible!

What a fun read! I loved the action and the complexities of the plot as it slowly unfolded in the midst of a huge heist and a massive shadow governmental operation. It had a little sci-fi, a little fantasy, some interesting magic and a ton of intrigue. The characters are all anthropomorphic animals, ranging from wolves, to different feline's and more and this adds a unique dynamic to the book, especially during the action scenes and with the little descriptions of the characters reactions. As an older reader, it gave me vibes of ThunderCats in a lot of cool ways, and it also sorta gave me vibes of a more gritty, dark, futuristic Zootopia...and I do not mean that in a "kids move" sort of way. The way the world is built, the breeds of animals having their own history (and there is definitely some subtle commentary on prejudice), and the vast overreach of a shady government...all in all I'm beyond excited to continue to story because it feels like it is getting more epic. It took me a little bit to get used to the present tense prose and a few of the names of the characters, places and races took me a second to sort out as well, but I attribute that more to my reading style than the author. Excited to read more in this world!

If Star Troopers, Avatar, Men in Black, and Voltron had a dazzling, intergalactic child, it would grow up to be Star Weilder by Ian Cassidy. This book rockets readers into a vividly imagined universe where every world feels tactile, every creature bursts with personality, and every battle shines with cinematic brilliance. Cassidy’s world-building is nothing short of breathtaking , his descriptions are so immersive and detailed that you can practically feel the pulse of alien suns and taste the metallic tang of a starport’s air.Despite its serious tone, I found myself laughing out loud more than once. Maybe it’s my imagination running wild, but I couldn’t help picturing the heroic animal characters as over-the-top furries rather than realistic beasts, and honestly, it made the entire experience even more amusing.Star Weilder is ambitious and grand in scale, a feast for readers who crave visual storytelling with heart and humor. It’s a four-star adventure that doesn’t just take you to another world ; it builds an entire galaxy around you.

The world building in this story was amazing! Not only did the author create entire new and beautifully described worlds but he also created a world where animals have been transformed into intelligent, some even wielding magic, beings. But beyond the beautiful foundation, this story was just as intriguing. A group of random creatures comes together to try and fight back against the evil that is corrupting their cities. Mixed amongst that group of misfits is a creature that rose from an erupting volcano where he had been hibernating for hundreds of years. As the last of his kind, and unique magic to wield, he helps the others to protect their cities and stop the corruption around them. Amazing read and I highly suggest others pick it up as well as the second book!

A whole new world

The author did such a fantastic job of building a whole new world unlike any I've ever read before. The story is so descriptive that you can see each place and character like you are standing right next to them.

When Minax is awakened after hundreds of years into a world full of evil. Cyngosa and Khelu, A duo that has such a troubled past and powers that you could only dream of. The three of the join forces as they go on a journey full of danger as the worlds fate is hanging on by a thread.

This book holds so much fantasy and action that keeps you gripping the edge of your seat not knowing what events will before the characters within the book next.

The world building in this book is wild. The characters are all humanoid animals with their own backgrounds and species. It follows multiple characters in a third person pov. I struggled with the present tense at first but it got easier as I went on but not due to the authors writing, just personal preference. You get interesting backstories from many of the characters. Lots of action. Very interesting read!
