The Playhouse Horrors

Rate this book
In the nightmarish confines of the Puppet Master's Playhouse, a place of unrelenting horror, I am a prisoner, haunted by unspeakable childhood torments. This house, under the control of the Puppet Master, a sadistic architect of suffering, subjects me to a relentless barrage of psychological and physical trials, echoing the darkness of my past.
Here, in this grotesque theater of despair, I am forced to confront my deepest fears and traumas. The Puppet Master's twisted games are a perverse reflection of my childhood nightmares, pushing me to the brink of sanity. The only escape is through participation in these cruel games, a path that demands an unthinkable descent into the abyss of my own soul.
I am offered a chance for revenge, a way to confront the demons of my past, but this opportunity comes at a harrowing cost. The tasks set before me by the Puppet Master stir a revulsion deep within, challenging the very essence of my morality and humanity. Each decision, each action, takes me further down a path of moral ambiguity, blurring the lines between justice and vengeance, right and wrong.
As I navigate this labyrinth of terror, I grapple with the horror of what I am asked to do, the potential to become the very monster I seek to destroy. In this game of retribution and survival, the ultimate question Will my quest for vengeance lead to liberation, or will it consume me, leaving me lost in the darkness of my own making? The Puppet Master's Playhouse is not just a test of physical endurance, but a crucible for the soul, where the cost of revenge may be more terrifying than the horrors of the past.
The Playhouse Horrors includes Trapped in the Shadows, Escaping the Darkness, and Embracing the Night as one, LONG unputdownable horror novel.

Traumance.
Imagine playing with dolls.
Or even better, like that Sims video game where you control the characters. This story explores that idea, a rich person with enough money to kidnap people and control them. That thin line between punishment and reward.
Very great concept.
The third book was my least fave but still worth the read.
I mean, I have so many questions, but that's just because I tend to overthink things. Was still a ton of fun to read

wow!

This was an outstanding story! I loved the concept and there were enough twists to keep me interested throughout. The ending did feel a little rushed but that didn’t change the fact that I loved this book! 🫀🫀🫀🫀🫀

When I started this series the first thing that came to mind was that I was reading something right out of the movie SAW. You really need to take note of the triggers (which cover quite a lot of them) before starting this book, which is a collection of all 3 in the series. There is plenty of gore and traumance. You will get caught up into the story all the while saying to yourself, "What the hell am I reading right now?" I wanted to put it down and quit but still needed to see how Drake and Dahlia were going to get out of the House of Horrors. The first book sets the scene and out of the 3 the second book was the most gruesome and the third was a decent round up. I am not usually one to read stuff this dark but if I look past all of the darker stuff and the traumance, it was a pretty good composed story.

This is extreme horror written at its finest. The gruesome gore elements twisted into a story full of heartache, misery, and a pure example of human evil create this horrendous tale of one man’s captive ‘dolls.’ Wells & Masters really developed this bleak tale into one nail-biting experience that will have you on your toes. The Playhouse Horrors combines all three novellas, Trapped in the Shadows, Escaping the Darkness, and Embracing the Night so you can continue through the harrowing story without stopping.

TRAPPED IN THE SHADOWS
Dahlia’s life hasn’t been all the greatest. She had to change her locks to prevent her unwanted ex from returning. She used the last of her cash for a subtle amount of food to add to her empty shelves. And now, after a dark figure pierced her neck, she has awaken in a new nightmare where she is told to obey orders from the voice known as Sam or someone might get hurt. Even worse, he may make you harm one another for his own sick game. Others that have been around longer look at her with disgust in how weak she is compared to their endurance but she befriends Drake, who soon decides upon himself to care for her. For the first time in her abused life, Dahlia believes she’s found comfort in another human. But not everyone is happy with their connection and Sam sees everything…

Once settled in, she learns that no matter what, they all must obey the orders that Sam gives them. Even if it pays in blood. And soon, she settles into the house among the other four. Her relationship with Drake escalates into a ravenous affair with each other that tests their boundaries. Until Dahlia soon starts to doubt their time in the house. Things progress into a morbid spiral downwards when a new guest arrives to replace an old one. He starts to talk about escaping, which is the same thought that Dahlia has been having. But when she finally convinces them all to follow along with her plan to release themselves of the threshold, their chances of ever seeing life outside may be declining.

ESCAPING THE DARKNESS
Forced into returning to the mansion by Sam after finding out what they thought was the freedom of outside was just mockery, Dahlia, Drake and the others await their punishment for attempting to escape. Things have changed around the house after their escape and all Dahlia can feel is that it was all her fault for the idea of them escaping. Leading one of their own to succumb to Sam’s orders. Things start to get even more harrowing when he orders them into the forest to hunt down their prey, or allow the prey to hunt them. While Dahlia is out on her hunt, she notices the fence Bri mentioned as well as a chapel. But jolts from the wristband refuse to let her venture more, as the idea builds to venture out to see their limits.

The tortures of the hunt grow more intense as she is forced to hunt down someone close to her, finding out that even the most innocent of people that she’s known could be monsters as well. But as the story unfolds, Sam pushes her to her limits to the point where she wants to escape no matter the cost. This story also unfolds a lot about Drake and his secret tie-in to the playhouse and his life outside the walls. The nail-biting climax will have you on your toes as they finally do escape but it’s not the freedom they were expecting.

EMBRACING THE NIGHT
The shocking conclusion to this trilogy and by far the most intense addition to the story. Now that Drake and Dahlia are on the run, Sam has made them public enemy number one and has sent everyone to find them. Sam has once again proven that he always remains one step ahead of our main characters as they try to survive his game of hunt. The gore factor is bumped up a notch and there’s at least one scene if not more that will linger with you long after the story has completed.

Now I won’t go too much into the third novel so that I don’t give too much away, but as a first time read by the authors, I was absolutely blown away! This is a PITCH DARK romance combined with a gory captivity story that has you screaming at the pages towards the characters because after a while, you feel like you know them just as well as Dahlia has. It’s extremely dark. Twisted. Spicy. And a delightful horror story that everyone MUST READ if you haven’t already.

I did not realize when I accepted this art copy that this was all three books in one. That said I really would love to get inside the author's heads because they are seriously twisted. I love dark books I love horror stories and these books did not disappoint. The progression of the relationship between Drake and Dahlia have you on the edge of your seat. The things that Dahlia went through as a child made me physically ill. But I was extremely happy that they got there happily ever after together. And I was glad that Owen AKA Sam finally got what he deserved.

This is the only trilogy I’ve ever been able to fully read and stay interested in. I love how Drake was actually part of Sam but was then betrayed. I feel like it opened the way for a lot of future events to transpire. I also found it really intriguing to see how many different ways of torture Cora Masters came up with- don’t get me wrong, I was a little grossed out but also couldn’t stop reading. I’ll definitely be reading more of her books!

I also want to note that I LOVED the epilogue, obviously I expected them to do their own playhouse together, but having the clarification was really nice.

This is the definition of traumance!!

This story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I couldn't put it down, once I started reading.
This was face paced full of twists and turns.
I couldn't wait to find out what happens to Drake and Dahlia, bonding through their shared trauma.
This story will not be for everyone. There was lots of gore and gag out loud moments.
If movies like Saw and Hostel give you the tingles, then this is the series for you.

This book has literally everything I could ask for in dark romance/horror. Deeply twisted and multiple jaw dropping moments kept me hooked from start to finish. I will say, there are quite a few typos in the third book and I was hoping for a bit more with the final kill scene, but still overall very satisfying and will definitely read again.

This is undoubtedly the most f*cked up book I’ve ever read and I loved every single page. The gore, the crazy gore induced spice, and all the twists kept me captivated. I think this might be one of the best books I’ve ever read.
