Okay, so think of the show The Bachelor. This is exactly what this book is. Avery gets persuaded by her best friend to audition to become a contestant on Heart to Heart, a famous reality dating show. This season’s bachelor is none other than movie-star Tristan Tate, Avery’s celebrity crush. However, Avery isn’t looking to win Tristan’s heart as she’s more interested in the prize money, and Tristan is only doing this show because his agent convinced him this was his way to get back into Hollywood. Even though neither are looking for love, both recently went through humiliating breakups, Avery and Tristan can’t seem to stay away from each other.
I thought this was a cute romcom to read. It’s was like a breath of fresh air, to be honest. Lots of laughs, tons of tension, and loads of drama. It felt like I was truly watching a reality dating show. I’m not one to watch The Bachelor, but this plot and story seemed pretty spot on when it comes to the overall aspect of the show (or at least what I would expect). This is my first read by Sara Furlong Burr, and I thought the author did a great job creating a lighthearted, fun, tension filled romcom that also keeps on you on your toes, because you never know who Tristian will eliminate next.
Avery was cute a bit of a klutz, but a sweetheart. She can stand her ground and tell you how it is, but then help you up when you’re down. She’s the ultimate best friend everyone deserves. She loves her family enough to go on a reality dating show to help save her parent’s bakery. That’s some dedication right there.
Tristan was also a sweetheart and did the best he could during this show, given his circumstances. Even though he wasn’t fully in during filming, he tried his best and gave it his all. He’s a hard worker who just wants to be understood. Tristan is extremely kind and sweet to Avery, and I loved watching their chemistry grow and their spark burst into flames.
Overall, I thought this was a good read, and definitely recommend to anyone who loves The Bachelor, or any reality dating show for that matter. Huge shoutout and thank you to Sara Furlong Burr for the ARC!!!
