Seriously?!

I was so excited for this book, especially after the first two and I am honestly so disappointed in this third book. It came off as very rushed, and then you still don’t get a conclusion as we have to wait for the final book to come out this summer. The author should have put books 3 and 4 together.

Meh most of the kings weren't even in this book. The trials that Ellelin had to do were all a little too easy imo. The random chapters in Arty and Hope's POVs were weird, random, unnecessary, and forced. It's clear that they're both being given love interests, but I could not care less.

I honestly don't remember anything about Grayson and Emrys from the previous books. Not much happened in this book tbh. It felt like the same thing happened in every chapter. Decent cliffhanger I guess, but idk if I care enough to continue this series.

Still a captivating story. I am going to finish the series quickly. The Character ARCs are very well done.
My issue is words and phrases are starting to become really repetitive. And the way my brain works—it flags ever one—Which becomes annoying. More of a me problem but 🤷‍♀️

This installment of the series felt very rushed. Not only was it too short, but things within the story just progressed exponentially quicker than in the previous books. And the trials seemed rather easy, or at least easier than Aphrodite made them sound. I was so excited for this third book. I loved the characters and how strong the FMC had gotten at the end of the 2nd book. But this just felt like fluff and I wasn't keen on the multiple POV that often didn't tie into anything else. Like what was the point of Hope's POV chapter? I thought for sure Xander was going to confess something when he found out that Hope was no longer dating Lysander, but no he just disappeared.

I LOVED the first two books in this series, BUT this book 👎🏼. It should have been the final of the series… author had the perfect opportunity to create the conclusion and then decided to throw yet another challenge into a series that’s already felt repetitive in the “challenge” aspect. How many trials does this series honestly need?? Disappointing. I wanted more.

This is book 3 in the Dragon Crown Series, and you will not be disappointed. It is non-stop action from the get-go.

We meet up with Ellelin as she goes back to Ayiolin to save her Kings from their foolish sacrifice to Ares and Aphrodite.

Taking back your Kingdom is never an easy feat as Ellelin will have to go through more trials to get her Kings back and take over the Spirit Court. This book had so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing the outcome.

I love the growth we saw seeing with the characters and Ellelin finding and owning her powers and her strength shining through. To prove that she is not some damsel in distress. Also accepting her feelings for her mates.

The ending leaves you with one heck of a doozy that makes u sit there fearing for one of the characters. I can't wait for the next one.

This one is about her rescuing her 4 mated dragons and it is so much fun. I like how they seem to just get do every scenario. They don't drag it out. I really enjoyed this one. She learns more about herself and about her dragons which is really cool. I love all of the characters.

Each trial seemed a bit rushed but got their points across. I still gave a 4 because I love the characters.

Meh. I’m over the idea of the trials, and most of these felt too easy.

There were also many things that didn’t make sense to me. For example, Elle makes this deal with Aphrodite that none of the kings will be harmed, however, several of them are during the trials. Shouldn’t that trigger some sort of escape clause? I thought it was [unexpectedly] clever of Elle to request that, but then nothing comes out of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also did not care for Arty or Hope’s PoV, and this newfound friendship with Hope feels really forced.

I don’t love where the ending went with the story either…I’ll have to think on whether I want to read the next book.

Also, this might be petty, but I’m annoyed that the book ends at 87% 🙈

I am going to DNF this series after this book. It is very fast-paced, but with so many plot twists happening it doesn’t feel explained well enough. The parts I wanted more of were kept so brief, and the parts I found boring felt like they lasted forever. The main action points of this book started to feel repetitive.

I would recommend for people who like fantasy, but don’t care as much about world building or detailed plot points.

This one took me longer simply because I really had no desire of finishing it. It was truly grueling to get through. I thought the second book was pretty bad, but this one had nothing on it.

Much like others, I enjoyed the concept of this book; however, the execution was horrendous. Without saying much about the deeper plot (I'll be saving that for later in the review), the manner in which this book went about irked me. Additionally, there were many character choices made in this book that made my hair stand on end. Some of the sentences that I read were so comically bad, that I just couldn't take the book seriously after I read them. To agree with everyone else, I thought the chapters about Hope and Arty were just useless. I found myself skipping them entirely.

Now, here is where my review involves spoilers. I, personally, have never understood why people felt the need to include quotes in these reviews... until now, and boy do I have some choice ones lined up.

3.5 ⭐️

Disclaimer: I’m going to review it without spoilers at the top, then create a line and anything below that line will be spoilers. Do with that what you will.

This author is really good at plot twists and the ending of this book gave me absolute chills. I’m really enjoying this series, even though I do have a fair amount of complaints too. These books likely won’t ever get above a 3.5 mainly because the character development does lack compared to other books. There’s not enough interactions with the guys before love confessions happen, and many of the plot points are rushed or anticlimactic.

Here’s what I liked:
- As always, Ellelin doesn’t hold back. She’s in love with these men, but she’s not afraid to yell at them and hold them accountable. I wish they developed the relationships more, but this “I love you but you also suck for this specific reason” thought process is great. I hate when strong FMCs become weak little things. If anything, she’s gotten mouthier vs more timid and I love that for her.
- The dad POV was both insightful and comedic.
- There’s a lot of insignificant but beautiful explanations. Just small details that make this book stand out as a unique world.
- The comedic moments in this book are so great.
- A little development for Arty and Hope both and I wanna see these girls thrive too!
- More backstory on Grayson finally! Also, the man makes some heart-filled confessions and admissions of love. And I love every bit of it!
- I love that the author showcases negative emotions that aren’t just anger. Example, Grayson and his insecurities. He doesn’t have to just be this big macho guy for her to fall in love with him. And him being vulnerable is adorable.
- HOLY FUCKING CHILLS AT THE ENDING!!!!

What I didn’t like:
- Out of all the nicknames, I realllllly don’t like “witch”. It’s not even that it rhymes with bitch, I just can’t get a take on it where it comes off endearing 🤷🏻‍♂️
- Events are too rushed. I’ll go into further detail, but the tests here just didn’t seem like they were a test for Ellelin. She didn’t really seem like the main character in most of them.
- Emrys STILL hasn’t gotten screen time. I feel like he’s almost a completely irrelevant character in this. All Ellelin can say is that he’s kind. Which we love a kind boy and I feel like I liked Emrys, but they don’t get to know each other more of develop.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
————————————————————

What I liked:
- The dad’s POV and him saying his parents thought he was insane after waking up from his destined mate dream is hilarious.
- The lanterns in the water court being blue spheres with glowing white fish swimming in them was such a cool and unique little detail.
- Ellelin saying “At least I’m not alone” during the water test when she sees a sea creature in the water with her was comical af. Perfect delivery.
- Ellelin calling out to Lysander how fucked up it was that he brought up her dad “killing” his dad when she pointed out how terrible his father was for making him have to survive in the sea alone at 5-6 years old. I love everything about her holding her men accountable and also that she’s addressing Lysander’s fucked up thoughts head on. There’s no sugar coating.
- Arty’s powers!? Tell me more. Also, her little love brewing is just adorable.
- Grayson seeing where they’re at for the earth test and instantly being filled with fear and screaming was such a visceral response and it literally left me with chills.
- Grayson’s mom whispering to him in the mists at her funeral. Again, just absolute chills.
- Grayson’s and Ellelin’s sex scene and them stopping for a spell because of his insecurities and not feeling like enough. It’s just such a heartwarming moment and I love him growing into the person he should be.
- The convo between Grayson and Lysander about Lysander needing to grow and work through his shit or he’ll lose Ellelin. And how he’s working on that too and sharing his experiences and his vulnerabilities.
- THE ENDING!!! I hate that Emrys is just being here so that he can get taken over by Ares basically, but the concept is insane and I can’t wait to see how the author handles this.

Favorite quotes:
- My relief is soon tempered by anger. “Lysander, wake the fuck up!” // This girl doesn’t give af. She thinks he’s dead and then she’s like bitch wake up now that I know you aren’t. 😂
- “I’ve had to make a deal with Aphrodite for the lives of my entire court and all my magic. Just because you guys wouldn’t speak to me, wouldn’t include me, and chose to be the heroes that no one asked for!” / TELL THEM BABY 👏🏼

What I didn’t like:
- Ellelin’s features always seemed like they were very spirit court coded. So finding out her features are entirely her mother and that she’s a demigod and the father is the spirit court guy is a little confusing?
- These “tests” aren’t really tests for Ellelin, which caused some confusion. This game needed to be setup differently. Water test, it’s all basically Lysander. Fire test, Arden isn’t mad at her but instead Lysander. Which is accurate and how it should be, but it was a test for them vs her. Earth test had SO MUCH potential to be interesting and good, but instead it was anticlimactic, over super quickly, and Grayson basically just killed his mom without struggle. Ellelin just hung there. Air was also anticlimactic. Her bond didn’t sync or anything with Emrys and she just stumbles for a bit and then he’s free. And I love the ending but also in the moment, Emrys killing Ares instead of Elellin was really annoying. Like none of this was really Ellelin and it’s like the author is trying to make her important but she’s really not?
- To elaborate on the non-spoiler one, it feels like Emrys is here only to have Ares take over. Like he’s plot fodder instead of a true destined mate. When tf is his man getting his time?
- She almost got raped and she hasn’t actually processed any of it. I know this’ll likely be delayed when they’re all together again, but I want her shadow powers to go dark or berserk because of her mental state like there was a hint of potential. But there was nothing.

Disappointed. I loved books 1 and 2 and I was so excited for this one but it fell flat for me. Felt super rushed. And then to see the afterword that mentions 5 books in this series and it will be interconnected with a different series.

Court of Dragons and Ashes picks right up where we last left off, with Aphrodite and Ares causing mass destruction, with the princes in trouble and it's up to Elle to save the day. It's pure chaos.

I don't really care for the Bachelor style competition in books it has to be the right conditions and those are rare, however, the trial-type competition, that's all action, using skills and magic I seem to like. Good thing too because Elle is in another trial and it's a doozy. Partnerships, magic, and faith are all in equal play but what I don't expect is for all the skeletons to come falling out of the closet and for a while it wasn't pretty but it was exciting on physical and emotional levels.

Through the events of the trials and with the secrets being laid bare I finally get a handle on who everyone truly is. Elle is strong and determined with a big heart. Arden is the most loyal person I've ever seen and I love him. While Lysander has some deep-seated issues and I'm still not sure if I'll ever be over what he's done but I see what's underneath the BS and it's hopeful. Terrin is the best and I really need the spell removed because the glimpses I get of him aren't enough.

I enjoyed finally getting to see the guys' courts Lysander's brutal one, Arden's is passionate, Gray's is a quiet beauty, and Emrys'. Each trial was unique to its court and a little nerve-wracking. That's not the only thing nerve-wracking, there are several other problems on the horizon and one has finally made himself known. I was wondering when the backlash from the event in the previous book was gonna make an appearance, well it's starting and I'm officially on edge.

What the heck was that ending!?! The mother of all plot twists happened at the very end, I think Gem broke me for a minute. Court of Dragons and Ashes is my favorite book so far but I'm not gonna lie Gem really twisted the knife in and by the title of the next book I don't think things are gonna go so well in that one either. Time will tell. I need Court of Dragons and Ruin ASAP.

Hold onto your seats - Court of Dragons and Ashes by G. Bailey takes fantasy romance to thrilling new heights! This book has it all: dragon kings, deadly trials, and gods that will stop at nothing to see the heroine fail. Ellelin faces a gauntlet of elemental challenges set by none other than Aphrodite, all to free her dragon kings from a cruel spell. With Ares adding fuel to the fire, Ellelin has to dodge enemies, endure brutal trials, and outwit gods. Talk about high stakes!

For fans of slow-burn romance and action-packed fantasy, this book delivers in spades. G. Bailey expertly weaves heart-pounding trials, a dash of Greek mythology, and intense romantic tension into an unforgettable story. As Ellelin’s powers and memories are restored, long-buried secrets surface, forging stronger bonds with her dragon kings. The romance here is just as fierce as the battles, with each challenge strengthening their connection in ways that make your heart race.

The world-building is rich, the plot twists will keep you hooked, and that cliffhanger? Pure agony—but in the best way. This book had me hooked from page one, and I lost sleep devouring every twist, every turn, and every secret that finally came to light! G. Bailey does not hold back as Ellelin faces a deadly gauntlet of trials designed by none other than the goddess of love, Aphrodite. To save her dragon kings, who are caught under Aphrodite’s spell, Ellelin must survive four brutal challenges—one in each court: Water, Fire, Earth, and Air. And trust me, these trials are anything but a walk in the park!

With Ares determined to see her fail and enemies lurking around every corner, Ellelin is pushed to her absolute limits. But she’s not just fighting for survival—she’s fighting for her heart and the hearts of her dragon kings. The stakes have never been higher, and just when you think you’ve got it all figured out… BOOM! Secrets come crashing down! It’s about time some of those hidden truths came to light, and it definitely makes the bonds between Ellelin and her dragon kings stronger, deeper, and oh-so-satisfying!

The trials are intense, the magic is mesmerizing, and the romance is deliciously complicated with all the enemies-to-lovers tension you could dream of! And let’s talk about the shadow dragons—dark, mysterious, and utterly captivating. I’m absolutely obsessed with them!

The friendships and alliances that develop in this book are a delight. I loved seeing new bonds form and old ones strengthen, adding heart to all the action. The twists and turns will have you on the edge of your seat, and the world-building is just as rich and compelling as ever, with a dash of Greek gods thrown in for good measure.

If you’re into epic fantasy with a spicy twist, battles that burn hot, and romances that leave you breathless, Court of Dragons and Ashes is your next must-read. I’m diving straight into book four and already dreading the wait for book five!

More trials. Same cliffhanger ending (she's separated from her dragon kings, again)

I forgot about the greek mythology aspect being kind of shoehorned into the books, but it was more prevalent in this book, and I really am not enjoying it. It would have made more sense to have Ares and Aphrodite instead be any of the Dragon Gods that are mentioned throughout the story.

I liked getting to know more of Grayson's back story, although his affection for Ellelin is becoming borderline too much. I find I'm wincing at his dialogue. The secret Ellelin and Lysander were keeping from Arden being revealed to him was a great storyline, creating some animosity between the kings instead of the constant "we're brothers and we all love Elle, she's the best"

I find I am feeling so sorry for Terrin. He was dealt such a bad hand. He's under a spell to be a dragon, knowing the whole time the prophecy and that Elle is his soulmate. Then forced to wait YEARS for her to return to their world while being away from his home, this poor guy. Really hoping he gets a bit more human time in the next book, and the happiest of endings.

Also, the Ares plot twist when Emrys killed him...curious to see how it plays out. But poor Emrys, he's had the least time and connection with his destined mate.

Again, will read the next one, but if it ALSO ends with Elle being separated from her dragon kings, I doubt I'll finish the series. Once was good, twice was a bit questionable, but 3 times is already far too much. It's so tedious and repetitive. Please find another cliffhanger

What the fuck???

This is just getting more and more confusing. Every time I think I have the plot figured out it just spins out of control again.

Lysander and Ellelin calling each other "my enemy" makes me wince every time because... really? That's what you're going with?😐

Overall, a pretty meh book. Nothing special about it tbh. The writing is a little cliche at times, especially the love confessions. I feel like no one actually talks like that in real life. It's kinda cute sometimes though. Cringe, but cute.

Why Ellelin didn't tell Arden right away pissed me off. Like she had every opportunity to. When she's standing there with a fucking ice dagger in her hand???? Yes, that was in the first book but it still annoys me. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if she had just been honest from the beginning. She had every opportunity, but "didn't want to hurt him." Girl. Are you dumb?? I'm sorry, but what did she expect? Sigh.

Most characters in this book pissed me off if I'm being honest. They're all idiots. Okay, that's a little harsh, but Jesus Christ. What they did at the end of the second book was literally infuriating. All the shit that happened in this book wouldn't have happened if they hadn't done that.

And yeah, I get it, that's the point, but I hate it. Has anyone ever heard of talking things out? No? You should try it, you fucking bozos.

Will I read the next one?

Sigh.

...yes.

I need to know what happens with Emrys, and that's honestly the only reason😭😭

⭐ 2.5 rounded up because I loved the other two books
🌶️ 2.5 I thought there was more spice in book two but I might be remembering wrong

🐉 RH/whychoose (no MM the guys are practically brothers)
🐉 Possessive alpha males
🐉 Paranormal
🐉 Fantasy
🐉 Dragon shifters
🐉 Magic
🐉 Gods

Court of Dragons and Ashes is the third book in the Dragon Crown series, and it picks right up from where book two ended. I loved books one and two and I am so disappointed that I did not like this one as much. It felt like there was too much going on and the writing was rushed but at the same time, it was boring. The guys were barely in this book at all, and I hate it when the FMC and MMCs are separated for too long. I love multiple povs but I don't think that side characters and the villains should get povs. Besides the main characters, you get a pov for Ellelin's dad and mom, Hope, Artemis, and Livia. This book only has 14 chapters plus a prologue and an epilogue making it way too short to have so many povs from characters who are not the FMC or MMCs. It does end in a cliffhanger, but I can't decide if I want to continue with this series or not.

TW: Mentions of almost SA from book two

I have no triggers it does bother me that the trigger warning is under the copyright section of the book and right under Artwork by Samaiya Art. I think it should be on a page by itself so that readers with triggers can easily find it.

"Court of Dragons and Ashes" serves as the third installment in the Dragon Crown series, seamlessly continuing the narrative from where book two left off. While I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, I must admit that this one fell short of my expectations.

The writing felt rushed yet somehow lacked the captivating allure of its predecessors. The ending left me utterly bewildered—what was that abrupt conclusion all about? With only 14 chapters, plus a prologue and epilogue, the book felt far too short to accommodate the multitude of perspectives from characters who aren't the focal point.

Disappointment lingers as I reflect on my experience with this installment. Despite eagerly anticipating its release, I found myself underwhelmed by the rushed pacing and disjointed narrative. With so many viewpoints clamoring for attention, the essence of the story became diluted, leaving me yearning for the cohesive storytelling that characterized the earlier books.

That being said, there were moments of brilliance, particularly the jaw-dropping plot twist towards the end that left me reeling. Gem certainly knows how to keep readers on their toes. Although "Court of Dragons and Ashes" may not have lived up to my expectations, I'm willing to give book four a chance in hopes of recapturing the magic of the series' earlier installments.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It actually hurts me to give this rating, but here we are.

I have read soo much by this author. A couple of her series are in my reread list of stories and I love them. I had a hard time with the last book and this one just solidified my issues.

Everything and nothing happens in this book. We get trials again, which is annoying because the first book is trials and then we repeat the trope? We also get useless scenes with side characters when we could be getting dual POV with the harem that is not under the spell or hell the harem that is spelled maybe just a glimpse in the dark to move the tension along?

This is also super rushed. 4 major trials that end in 2-3 pages in each court, and barely any real interaction aside from sex with the main characters. I also felt like the "I love you" speeches were super generic. I've read better from her, and it didn't seem like her heart was in this one.

Then we get everyone back just to have them portaled away, and the foreshadowing that Emerys becomes Ares? And we are expected to believe that this all wraps up in the next two books? I am not sure about that one. At least not well. Which sucks because when I heard she was doing a dragon book I was so excited, but three books in I am just wondering what went wrong.

My rating is more like a 3.5.

I marked this as spoilers because I can't help but complain... Ellelin had the EXACT same last name as the king and queen of the Spirit Court, and no one bothered to connect the dots except for Arty?? I initially thought that Ellelin was using her mother's maiden name or something because her maternal grandmother was raising her, but seriously?! It's not like Ilroth is a common surname smh.

Anyways... I enjoyed this third book better than I did the second book. We are kind of back to the same pattern as the first book, which draws some nice parallels. I wish we got some more backstory and character development for Arty. It would have been nice to see a redemption arc for her instead of just *poof* she is redeemed and in love. It also feels like we dropped the book two arc too easily. It just appears to be a means to an end (getting her shadow mate, giving the future ruler of the Spirit Court people to rule over, introduce messed up trauma...).

I am very glad to see Grayson's backstory and the Arden/Lysander tension develop though. Grayson's sister is awesome, too. Book three ends on a nice cliffhanger; I can't wait to see what happens between Elle-elle-elle-lin and Emrys (dun dun dun). I'm heading straight to book four now.

Grayson is simply chefs kiss. If you had any doubts of that before this book, allow me to clear that up with this quote from this swoon-worthy dragon shifter:

“My love for you is limitless of any words, of any one feeling that can be described. When there is nothing more than the earth left, it will be marked with the love I feel for you. We are endless, Ellelin, because you are my every dream come true.”

What more could you possibly want??? He loves Ellelin so much. The way he cares for her, protects her, encourages her and speaks to her is literally everything.

A lot unfolds in this book, past betrayals on Lysanders part come to light, a lot of character growth happens for all of the characters. We see a lot more resilience and strength along with mental fortitude on Ellelins part.

We learn a lot about the gods and the trials that Ellelin faces are super intense. Her love and bond with each of her mates is beautifully done in every book and this one is no exception.

The rate at which I’m devouring these is wild but I’m so here for it.
