Having survived a battle with the Western warlord, Kayzitt, Seneca and Tavin lead the survivors South out of the thawing northern wilds. They must seek out the Chancellor of the East, who has been directing their campaigns from a distance till now, and determine the direction of the war and thus, their lives.
Meanwhile, Kayzitt and Oil’ib play cat and mouse in the desolate wilds, their survival unbeknownst to their friends. Oil’ib longs for revenge at any cost, but Kayzitt will not allow himself to be beaten so easily.
Chiara tries to maintain the hospital that Seneca was forced to leave for the service. All while patients pile in and physicians continue to be drafted away. When the situation reaches a harrowing breaking point, she will put her life on the line to save her home.
As the Agents of the Chancellor finally meet their leader. They learn that there may be a way out of the war, a long lost tool or the Golden Age of man, which may give them the advantage needed to dispel the invaders from their land. But the mission will require a high risk journey to the New England territories, where the influence of the Eastern Republic is weak and their enemies closer than they could have dreamed.
This had an interesting concept and reminded me of the Articles Of Faith Duology by David Wragg. It has similar banter between the complex characters which adds to the atmosphere of the nature of the story. I liked the characters and was invested in the character arcs and interactions between them and want to be able to go back and re-read book one and then this one again to see what I have missed. The world was an interesting world being that it has been set in a futuristic version of the USA and Canada. Yes it is set approx. 700 years in the future some of the values and lifestyles of the characters is very Roman in nature. I also wonder is this the end of the story or is there more to come .....
This is the second book in the series. I enjoyed this book just as much as I did the first book. This book is set 700 years in the future and is a dystopian novel about a war ravaged American and Canada. I enjoyed the new characters in the book especially Chiara a doctor working in a hospital that is suffering from the loss of doctors similar to what our modern healthcare faces today. Highly recommend!
Age of Rust: Retribution by Thaddeus Yeiser & Conrad Bair. Book 2 of 2: Age of Rust. I did like the cover of this book. This was a good read. I liked the writing style. I did like Tavin. He was the only character I did like. Although Seneca grew on me. I didn't like Kayzitt at all. I liked the story. I read this in two sittings. This did keep me gripped. I really didn't like the lion scene. It made me feel icky. I do hope there is more to come.
