Not what I expected

2.75 The first third of the book was right out of a twisted Hallmark movie. The by proxy marriage of Mariya to Damien to pay off a debt her father owed the Bratva made no sense. There was very little backstory to support either character which left me extremely frustrated. There was no suitable explanation for the marriage. They could have made daddy dearest pay up instead of selling his second daughter to the Bratva.

The meet and cute via the letters they wrote got old pretty quickly because of the use of the poetic prose type of writing that the author used. It was fine for a few chapters, but in my opinion was too drawn out.

Damien’s refusal to actually meet his wife was just weird. I lost count of how many times the author used the same old mantra of how Damien explained everything away with keeping Mariya safe. Yet his number one/her bodyguard - Oskar turns out to be a rogue undercover cop and traitor working for her father.

Damien puts Mariya on public transportation w/o a body guard to Finland only to get her kidnapped by the Turks because his brothers/family thinks she may be a traitor without any real evidence.

He doesn’t fight for her until she is kidnapped and is forced to go in alone to rescue her because his brothers are too busy in Moscow for even one to accompany him. They don’t even send any of their men with him. Of course they save the day, (tah dah) once Damien and Mariya are faced with being killed.

The insta-love between Mariya and Damien is a difficult premise considering they don’t really know each other, but fall madly in love very quickly. I assume the texting and letters are suppose to be building some kind of foundation, but doesn't do it for me.

Mariya’s character was a very forgiving one considering the storyline and plot in this book.

Out of all the brothers, Damien’s story is the most romantic. Readers find themselves in another arranged marriage between Damien and Mariya, daughter of a local Moscow politician. Remember Damien is the half brother of Andrei, Leo, Roman and Samuil and was usually referred to by a derogatory illegitimate moniker. But something has changed, because in this story he’s referred to as “little brother”. From Damien’s perspective, he still feels like an outsider and is compelled to prove his loyalty to the family…the Bratva, so he marries for a business reason. Mariya, a florist, hasn’t seen Damien since the ceremony and won’t for another couple of weeks. After her attempted escape, the couple have been communicating by letters, flirting in nature.
What I really enjoyed about this Crowne romance is that it is slow burn 🔥 in nature and the dialogue expressed hope and connection between the couple. Their first meeting was after Damien was injured during a business meeting. There is a traitor in their midst. Readers will appreciate Damien’s protective nature towards Mariya, who we find is no wilting flower. The rest of the story is filled with action and the growing intimacy between the couple. Who is the traitor? Will Damien be accepted and no longer feel like an outsider in his own family? Enjoy the surprise answers to both. I’m sorry to see this series end. A lovely conclusion and worth all of the 5 stars.
I have received an ARC and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.

The beginning of this story was fairly bland. Arranged marriage but it seems like Damien wants nothing to do with his new wife. As time goes on, they start writing letters to one another and basically get to know each other.

Then the action starts. From that point on, I really enjoyed the book. We get to see what is going on between these two. Not only what they are saying but also what they are feeling. The two epilogues at the end of the book were also really great.

Slow plot

I finished a quarter of the book. The plot moved in a glacial pace. Didn’t want to invest any more of my time trying to figure out if the story/book got any better. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author. This one is a bust.

This book offers something unexpected in the genre of mafia romance. Yes, it has a darker tone as most mafia romances do, but it also features a rather sweet and tender connection between two people who have been brought together as a political move or power play. Damien keeps his distance from Mariya, not because he doesn’t want anything to do with her, but because he wants to insulate and protect her from his very dark and dangerous world. It is a world where she could be kidnapped, hurt or even killed in an attempt to exact revenge, to take more power or to try to control Damien and his Bratva family.

Their connection, their love is forged through letters. First they are meant as a way to challenge or admonish each other, then they become increasingly tender, more heartfelt and offer insight into their intentions and souls. Mariya is a florist and gradually they use flowers and their meaning as a way to reveal their feelings, their connection and even their hopes. Damien finds it increasing difficult to keep his distance from the woman who has unknowingly and unexpectedly captured his heart. He does his best to strengthen his resolve, stand firm in his method of protecting his now beloved wife. He still has hope to claim her, but only when he is in a position where her protection is guaranteed. He won’t risk her life to have her by his side.

Then everything changes. While making a deal with the Turks, Damien’s well honed instincts warn him something is an issue, saving his life, but also making him a target and forcing him to retreat. His retreat takes him into Mariya’s haven, not by choice but by necessity. Mariya rises to the occasion, shows her mettle and further impresses upon Damien that she is a formidable woman despite her delicate and petite stature, a more than suitable partner in marriage. She sees him at his most vulnerable, lends him her quiet strength and safeguards him. The woman who only wanted to flee, is now well and truly a part of his world, a part of his very soul.

Damien and his Bratva family must guard themselves against the enemy, find their own retribution and secure their power base. One thing is for certain though. Mariya won’t go back to being insulated from it all, kept at a distance from Damien or left in a gilded cage. For better or worse, she intends to meld herself into his world, become a true partner, confidant and soulmate. Their story is enthralling, twisty and fast paced with more than enough passion and heat to melt one’s heart and lead to one needing a fan.

I highly recommend this one!

Mariya is married off to Damien by her politician father Vadem . Damien keeps his distance from her once married as he knows his 'life' and line of work is dangerous. He is trying to set up a deal with the Turks lead by Ahmet Sahin. Mariya resents being left alone and tries to run away but is apprehended by Oskar one of his bodyguards. Mariya sends a letter to Damien explaining how she feels. This starts a course of correspondence between them, each letter drawing them a little bit closer to each other, a written love affair. But they are thrust together while danger surrounds them and they realise the depth of feelings they have for each other that has built up over time.

Damien realises that Mariya is no wilting flower but a fiery, tempestous woman. Someone he admires. Her nature helps her when matters concerning the family take a surprising turn for the worst. When loyalties and bonds are tested. Both fighting to get back to one another. Damien finds out that he is not alone, he is not an outsider and family is everything.

A great book navigating through family, duty and love. How love can blossom and spread from the simplest expressions, weaving it's roots and anchoring itself into something strong and withstanding all weathers.

Devil’s Nuptial’s : A Dark Mafia Romance" (Antonov & Nicolaevich Bratva Brothers Book 9) Damien and Mariya’s story. As usual with Ms. Crowne’s books this story you are not going to want to set it down until you reach that very last page and trust me when I say you get so deeply enthralled you are at the end before you realize it. Its That Good. Yes. Mariya is the daughter of a political figure that has forced her into an arranged marriage to Damien a Bratva lieutenant. Damien has Mariya wisked off to a safe place for her safety from his enemies; immediately, she doesn’t even get to meet her new husband! Mariya gets a bit ticked by being hidden away and no contact with her so called husband so she writes him a note. Which in turn sparks a back and forth written word of learning about each other, they actually learned so much about each other and truly fell in love through their written words before ever seeing or talking to each other. The story is full of action, twists, mafia life, passion, romance. A fantastic addition to the series. I recommend - this is a must read, you will not be disappointed. Part of the Antonov & Nicolaevich Bratva Brothers series each can be read as a standalone with a sexy and the one he takes his attention. Mariya is so sweet used as a pawn in some into marrying a man she sees only the day they marry she feels trapped in a beautiful home and a bodyguard as her only contact to her husband whom she can’t call so she writes him a letter which becomes their form of communication. Damien sexy as all get out bratva marries because it is required to but the moment he marries his wife he loves her enough to protect her by staying away from her, from their home, and has been writing letter to try and express how much he loves her giving her heart desire, flowers, chocolates whatever she wanted but what she wants is him something he can’t give her in the name of safety. The pull between them is there when they were together but when he is betrayed by someone he trusted putting her life on the will he be there to protect her, will she ever get to know the man she married, and will they find their way in the dangerous waters they ae swimming in to find happiness?

“Devil’s Nuptials” wasn’t your typical dark mafia romance, it was something more vibrant and organically written. KC’s writing artistry through this novel was the most beautiful and unique thing I’ve ever experienced in a mafia romance.
The way she sets up her choice of words with visual emotions, allowing the reader to dive head first into the world she has written revolving around Mariya and Damien.

I loved the aspect of these two writing letters to each other. Allowing their feelings and connection to grow organically before having that physical connection was beautiful. Mariya was a great FMC, doing whatever she needed to do to protect Damien, just like he did for her. Even though their beginning wasn’t what they pictured in their lives, it was nice to see their love grow organically.

The plot twists in this novel were insane. Chapter after chapter, another plot twist had me on the edge of my seat. The betrayal and action scenes were a 5/5. It was a thrilling read from beginning to end. The spice was a 3/5. While there were some steamy moments, I really loved the storyline and KC’s ways with words. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more of her novels soon!

Mariya finds herself married to Damien and then locked in his castle without contact. Damien's trusted man, Oskar, watches over her to protect her while he stays away to protect his wife. She tries to ring Damien, but Oskar says no since it is too risky. But he agrees that the written letter should be safe. So we see some sweet love letters between the two. She wants flowers, so he sends her some, and she tells him they are the wrong flowers. So, he learns of the meanings of flowers through Mariya. Despite her sweetness, Mariya is up for a challenge if she feels threatened. Mariya finds herself dragged into Damien's dark, dangerous world with the Turks when things go wrong. Damien is being double-crossed and astonished when he finds by whom.

This was an enjoyable book and I love the letters that went back and forth and how they fell in love through them but I wish there was more of the love between them when they finally meet. Mariya Tarasova is the daughter of the Mayor and in a political arranged marriage she is now Damien Nicolaevish’s wife who she is yet to meet so it’s only on paper that they are married and now she is in a huge mansion waiting for him after a few weeks he doesn’t show so she starts writing to him. Damien Nicolaevish is a Lieutenant in tthe Russian Bratva and has entered into a political marriage and wants to be with his new bride but there is danger all around and his enemies want him dead so he sends her away to a huge mansion for her safety and when he receives a letter from her he writes back and soon they learn so much about each other and fall in love and can’t wait to meet. There is danger, suspense, vengeance, lies, deceit betrayal and so much more in this book but do they get there HEA or not.

Due to the actions of her selfish & greedy father, Mariya is now married to a high-ranking Mafia Lieutenant she's never met, living alone in a mansion surrounded by guards, and her dream of being a florist gone forever. Inspired by her frustrations, Mariya writes a letter expressing her anger to her husband, but what she receives in return could change her life.

Damien is the half-brother of the Bratva leadership, always striving to prove himself as a valuable member of their dangerous family. He accepted the marriage as a payment of debt, but despite his own desire to be around his new wife, Damien knows in order to keep her safe from his enemies, he can only admire her from afar. What neither of them expected was for their distant relationship to grow closer.

Devil's Nuptials is a great story of passion, strength, and loyalty. The Bratva will stand together against anybody going against the family, protecting their own and dealing with their enemies explosively. Recommend!

Great story.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder well for Mariya & Damien having never met I think this describes them perfectly. Mariya has been married off to Damien by her politician father Vadem but not wanting to draw her into his Bratvia world he has vowed that they will never see each other do that he can keep her safe. Although unbeknownst to Mariya he saw her from afar at a wedding so not being able see him physically she initiates a relationship with him through letters & flowers.
This is a lovely story is sweet romantic & steamy but is marred by secrets, lies, betrayal, kidnapping & pain.
In this we get to see an emotional side to Damien with him he expressing to his brothers how he's never made to feel part of their family & there acceptance is tested when he is left to save his wife & the Bratvia.

I've loved reading this series & although Damien's story can be read as a stand alone I definitely recommend reading the whole series
with each brother's stories.

the definition of romantic but make it mafia

The definition of Romantic but make it mafia. A saga. And over time. This starts with letters back and forth (albeit I would have loved MORE letters) but you get the sense there was a few hundred over time. The fact that it ended up being their secret language was a great way to tie in their beginning middle and end.

And what a saga! This book covers so much of a journey. It’s a good ending to the series and ties up the bratva after so many decades nicely.

I do wish we could have had more details on the surprise twist because that would have been super cool.

Spice was more romantic 1.5 chilis
But man do you fall in love with these two. They are probably the most bonded out of all the couples in this bratva series I would say

“Our story isn't just one of love; it's a tale of redemption, resilience, and the enduring power of family. As I look into Damien's eyes I see not just my husband, but my partner, my protector, and the father of my children.”

Damien sums up his and Marita life as a married couple by the following “ I find myself reflecting on the journey that brought us here. From the uncertainty and mistrust of being married as strangers to love and unbreakable bonds, our path has been nothing short of miraculously.” They started out as married on paper and name only in an effort to forge bonds in the Bravta. He refused to see her but they started writing to each other. Marita started it out of frustration and defiance but it became so much more to the both of them. This book is a courtship between strangers in the dangerous world of the Bravta. People like flowers are not what the appear to be. Damian finds his place with his brothers in their world. He finds his insecurities are unfounded in the love of his family and wife. It is a completing story within a story.

Fighting for Survival -
Mariya knew she had no choice in her arranged marriage, so she finally accepted her fate. However, it took a near fatal incident for Mariya and her husband, Damien to embark on a true relationship. Unfortunately, their lives were upended when the Family was betrayed and they had to fight for their lives. Fortunately, they were able to work together with ‘Family’ to solve the predicament they found themselves in, so they could get back on track towards a happy life, especially after Mariya’s life changing news.

This was a fast-paced, action-packed romance story, that had me so engrossed, that I only realised I hadn’t taken any break, when I reached the end. I absolutely loved reading this book and I am happy to recommend it to any avid romance reader, looking for a captivating story to sink their teeth into.

I loved this book! Damien and Mariya don’t have the typical start. There’s no beautiful wedding day. Just a signed piece of paper to acknowledge the agreement of marriage. However their love begins to bloom through written letters:

“ To the man who believes chains are an acceptable gift for a bride, You may have me now, but you will regret not letting me go. By year's end, I promise to make freedom my most treasured possession and divorce my fondest gift to you. Your ever-determined "wife,” Mariya”

Their love grows through these letters, seeing each other for the first time, and then ordeals they just overcome through the bratva. Add a pregnancy to the end and a HEA, and it’s all you could ask for with a mafia romance!.

I can’t sing the praises loud enough for KC Crowne. She is such a wonderful author and this book is a wonderful addition to the Antonov and Nicolaevich Bratva Brothers series. This book can be read as a stand alone but I suggest you read all of the series.

This book is about the marriage between Damien and Mariya that was started by the signing of just a piece of paper. After weeks of being married, Mariya has yet to meet her husband, so she starts to write him letters. Being in the Bratva, Damien wants to keep Mariya safe and not involve her in the Bratva life of deceit, lies, betrayal and danger. Will that be possible? This book is a must read with all its twists and turns. If you like to read in the evening, be ready for an all-nighter because this book is impossible to put down.

Damion Nicolaevich feels the only way to keep his new contract bride safe is to avoid her, their marriage started with signing of just a piece of paper, then you don't let your enemies know who she is to keep her safe from the dangers of the Bratva life. I love how weeks after the marriage Mariya send Damien a snarky note and this sparks a way to get to know each other as they keep exchanging letters instead of meeting face to face. Damian is trying to find his place with his brothers in their world, he's the bastard who has felt like he didn't belong. A captivating story of Damien finding his place in the Bratva, the respect he deserves, the love of family, and a woman he finds is stronger than he knew and a love of a lifetime. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.

Devil's Nuptials by KC Crowne is book 9 in the Antonov & Nicolaevich Bratva Brothers series. Mariya is married off to Damien for political reasons. I love this couple. They have a special chemistry. I love that they write letters to get to know each other, even if it was a rocky start. This is something I haven't read elsewhere. It also lets us in on the characters. His protective streak for her shows how he feels.

I love the action and the suspense as to what will happen kept me flipping the page. Of course the Bratva element brings the danger into the plot. Great addition to this series even if it is the end of it. At least we have the happily ever after.

If you are someone who likes effusive flowery romantic passages this might be for you. I think it definitely has its place, however a dark mafia romance is definitely not my first choice for it. It starts out with a decent storyline...forced marriage by proxy, they haven't actually met so start writing letters... but that gets old quickly and when they do meet it becomes this instant romance with oddly formal flowery passages. This really did not do it for me. It comes off as written by someone with English not as their first language as the conversations are oddly formal and not in a manner that we would normally speak. This makes it hard to connect with characters. I would give it a 2.5. Not the worst I have read but not good.

This is a good continuation of the Bratva. Damian is the half-brother, and thinks he is an after thought and doesn’t feel apart of the family.
Mariya is offered up as a bargaining piece for her father, who is trying to get to the top, without working for it.
They both are afraid to give their feelings a chance, and eventually they work their way to felling for each other thur notes and letters.
There is danger that is orchestrated by her father and an enemy, it shakes the Bratva and the family to its core. The enemy makes a mistake when he takes Mariya, not knowing that she is as skilled as anyone at escaping and she uses his ego against him.
Together Damian and Mariya take out the enemy, with the help of the family and then they take out her father. Their love continues to grow and the family comes back stronger then ever and the bonds are as strong as ever with the brothers.

so exciting

I have read everybook of the Bratva brothers books, and although this oneis about Damien and Mariya, it also feels like a culmination of so much that has been told throughout the books that bringsyou forefront into the Bratva of Russia. Mariya is basically to Damien as a favor between her politician, father, and the underworld of Russia. But as all things happen, everything happened!!!The book was so exciting and very hard to put down. The steamy scenes not only melted the pages, but melted your heart. The book leaves you reeling and actually rooting for these guys, which you have to because underneath all that “bad guys” they’re just guys that love life and family. I so recommend reading these in order. KC Crown has outdone herself in this series and I hope there’s more.. there are children.

Mariya is forced into an arranged marriage by her politically ambitious father. She doesn't even get to see her new husband. Bratva lieutenant Damien wants to keep her confined to keep her safe from his enemies. Mariya chafes at the isolation, her only solace is the garden on the grounds. Finally, they start a written correspondence as their only contact, gradually getting to know one an other.

This book was a can't put it down read for me. There is the unusual romantic relationship of the couple, the action and danger of the Bratva, and the push and pull of the family dynamics that kept me reading. It is a great addition to the author's Bratva stories.

Mariya has no choice in her groom. Damien the youngest of the Nicoleavich brothers had no desire for a wife but would protect Mariya from his enemies by never meeting with the spitfire who has aroused him by her letters and attempts to leave the splendid prison in which he’s left her. But fateful danger leads Damien to her or rather their doorstep, they have no choice but to give in to passion. But there is a traitor in his circle and he will need her and his brothers to defeat their enemies and at last find happiness. Absolutely loved this book and the letters between them that stoked their fire. Love the continuity from the previous books in this series.

Slow burn that scorches

Devil's Nuptials is the ninth book in the Antonov & Nicolaevich Bratva Brothers series. This is an arranged marriage story about Mariya Tarasova and Damien Nicolaevich. She is an unwilling bride to say the least as it was to settle a debt. They may be married but they have never actually met. So she starts to write him letters and he replies. Through the letters they begin to know each other and some things are revealed which will bring them closer to each other. But there is danger for him and that means to her also. So will they ever actually be together?
This story had me from the start. It is a slow burn but once it gets started to becomes a roaring fire that will scorch the earth between these two.

What an amazing read. I loved the storyline and the characters. The characters were spot on, Damien and Mariya what an unlikely pair. Though they did get on so well. I enjoyed the start of this book, where he kept his distance and then Mariya was fed up with not seeing her new arranged husband. So through Damien’s so called trusted friend they start writing letters to each other. I love how you saw a different side to him and not just the ruthless bratva man. I liked how they connect through the letters, as in this day and age writing letters isn’t done anymore. This book was amazing and needs reading along with the series. Highly recommend.

This book is part of The Antonov and Nicolaevich Bravata Brothers Series and is a stand-alone.
I have fallen in love with the world the author has painted so well for us in this series. I have read all of them and I love to see the characters pop up in other books.
The love story of Damien and Mariya was made so unique by letters and the language of flowers. Then add in the Bravata aspects of betrayal, lies, deceit, drama and twists and turns. A OTT hot alpha male lead a kick-butt female lead, fantastic chemistry and delicious steaminess and you have a definite Must Read!!!.
