Aziel’s family wants him dead. That’s been true since he was a kid. To stay alive, he keeps his head down and follows orders, including becoming a guardian for his youngest cousin. He knew the job would be a pain in the ass. So when he gets a call from the school about a fight, it didn’t really surprise him. He was determined not to let his cousin become like the rest of his family. Even if it meant making him apologize to a human.

Declan had pretty much one goal. To make sure his little brother got a better hand than he did. So when his brother’s bully comes to apologize, he figures it was a step in the right direction. But the bully’s cousin keeps hanging around. And he’s acting really possessive. He had to wonder, was there something dangerous coming? Or was this guy hoping for more?

Aziel thought it couldn’t get any worse, but when an oracle told him he had to submit to the human to earn his freedom, Aziel considered that fate really didn’t like him. There was no way he was bringing a human into his mess. Even if it meant going against the vision meant to save his life.

violence, Aziel becomes a guardian, he never agreed to this, little cousins are annoying, school fights, divination, Dante learns a lesson, tattoo artist, Declan has trust issues, piercings, yes, those kinds of piercings, Aziel is possessive, but in the good way, family drama, secrets, friends are annoying too, Athena is kinda scary, make up sex, torture, sorry, the author doesn’t control the bad guys

I was recently introduced to Amy Padilla and her Dallying with Demons series, and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for the fifth (and final) book. "Saving a Demon" debuts October 1, 2024.
["Aziel’s family wants him dead.

Even if it meant going against the vision meant to save his life."]

And the bonus tags (because they're arguable better than the blurb itself): ["violence, Aziel becomes a guardian, he never agreed to this, little cousins are annoying, school fights, divination, Dante learns a lesson, tattoo artist, Declan has trust issues, piercings, yes, those kinds of piercings, Aziel is possessive, but in the good way, family drama, secrets, friends are annoying too, Athena is kinda scary, make up sex, torture, sorry, the author doesn’t control the bad guys"]

It through me for a loop that there wasn't instant-love (or even instant-lust) when these two met. There was ZERO looks of appreciation or overly detailed descriptions of muscles or jaw lines. There was just pure contempt (borderline hatred, actually). Their love wasn't instant. It wasn't easy. It was filled with trepidation and tentative trust and giving up control (inside and outside the bedroom).

It was a harder read (all those trigger warnings). Neither Az nor Declan were 100% great people; they both had their pasts, their worries, and their prejudices. But growing closer, whether wanted or not, they grew as people, learned more about their world, about their wants, about themselves.

And then, just as things were really getting great, as with any romance (with angst) worth its salt, shit hit the fan and everything was nearly ruined forever. At least it wasn't their fault.

I think if I would have been breathing through the last 30% of the novel, I would have cried (sobbed), but I guess that's a plus of anxiety-spiral-speed-reading, no tears.

Trigger Warnings: homophobia, emotional/physical/mental abuse, threats of abuse, bullying, torture, and more.

Saving a Demon by Amy Padilla is the 5th book in her Dallying with Demons series. It is the story of a demon who is just trying to keep living with the odds of doing this stacked against him and his human mate who he has to protect. The integration of paranormals from the Other Realm into the Human Realm has taken place and paranormals of all kinds are starting to live there. Aziel Shadowwalker (or Aziel Nox as he is known in the Human Realm) is a demon whose Uncle Camus is the leader of a mafia like group who is out to take over the world. He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and isn’t above torturing anyone who gets in his way. Aziel’s parents didn’t agree with his tactics and tried to leave but he killed his father and hurt his mother and now he takes it out on Aziel. He is tasked with finding information that can help his uncle get what he wants. He also has to take Dante, Camus’s youngest son, to the human realm to go to school there and teach him how to get information to bring back to his uncle. If they don’t do this to his satisfaction they will both be hurt. At first Dante is surly and doesn’t want anything to do with the humans. Something happens at school that involves a fight with Oliver Gray. Aziel takes Dante to Ollie’s brother’s tattoo shop, Ink’d, and he meets Declan Gray. When he sees Ollie’s black eye he knows Dante didn’t tell and truth and he teleports out and is going to return him to his father. Then he goes to see Athena, an oracle, and she says his path to happiness is to submit to the white tiger, who turns out to be Declan. He realizes that the only way he can keep Dante alive is to keep him with him. They go to Ink’d to apologize and send boys to the basketball court to play together. Declan is Ollie’s older brother and watches him after school several days a week while his parents are working. His parents are cool to him and don’t really want him around because he likes men so they don’t treat him with love. Ollie means everything to him so he is happy to have him. At first Aziel doesn’t want anything to do with Declan but Athena informs him that he is the way to getting free from his uncle so he tries to get to know him which leads them to have a hot love scene where Aziel gives up control. Usually they are one and done but Declan is intrigued by Aziel and Aziel liked the feelings he has with Declan, plus the boys are getting to be good friends. When a family meeting is called by Camus, Aziel and Dante have to give the information they got and Aziel is accused of consorting with humans, something Camus will not stand for. Dante helps him out with a reason for this but Aziel is concerned that that his uncle and brothers will find out about Declan and Ollie and wants to do everything he can to protect them. This involves Athena, his demon friends Callum, Felix, Malakai, and Hendrix, and they are more than happy to have his back and help out. Feelings are developing between the men as they see more of each other and strange things are delivered to the shop that make Aziel fearful. Then there is another family meeting, this time in the Other Realm, and everything falls apart with Aziel barely saving Dante and some humans his uncle has captured. Then Aziel is taken away to be tortured and his friends and Declan get involved and go after him to save him. When they do, he is taken to a healing hospital with severe injuries but he recovers and they both declare their love for each other and go on to start a life together as mates, taking Dante and Ollie with them. I really enjoyed this book. I was on the edge of my seat through all of it because I kept wondering what Aziel’s uncle was going to do next to him and Dante. Aziel was never going to hurt humans and would die before he did and he was all about protecting those he considered family. Declan was a strong man and while somewhat confused about demons and paranormals he went all in with Aziel. Dante and Ollie were in the middle of everything in the story and Dante changed to like humans, especially Ollie, and Ollie stands up for what is right. Athena and Aziel’s friends were very important in the story and came through when they needed them most. His uncle was truly psychotic and unhinged and it was epic in how he got what was coming to him. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like paranormal stories between a demon and a human with lots of suspense involved as they fall in love and find their happy ending.

Wow! What a finale!

I’ve been loving this series so was sad when we got to the end of the friend group that star as the MCs for these books. I’m hoping that we’ll get to stay in this world for a spin off but even if we don’t the last book was a fantastic send off. It’s interesting, of the books in this series the two that I felt were the most intense were the first and last books. My brain loved that symmetry which again made this a great final book for me. Aziel and Declan do not have an easy go of it. Beyond just the general issues Aziel has with humans (given his precarious position with his family) there was a ton of stuff going on with bad guys and the like that threatened any chance of these two being together. Add in that they were both trying to protect family (Ollie and Dante) and they were juggling a lot. But that’s the beauty of this series - when the MCs need help they have an amazing group of people happy to lend a hand (whatever that looks like). You really get to see that in this last book which was awesome given the original group of friends have each now found their person. Plus there was a suuuper satisfying comeuppance to the baddie which is always a big plus in my book. There’s definitely some tense moments and it’s not as easy going a book as the middle three but this is still a ton of fun and a great way to finish the series (hopefully just for now!) with a bang.

Bittersweet

I'm so glad we finally got Aziel's story but I'm also sad this series is over.
Ariel has a violent criminal family and has never been accepted by them.
They view him as weak because he refuses to hurt others and constantly abuse him.
When he has to care for his cousin Dante it puts him in contact with Declan and his brother Ollie.
Initially there's animosity between the boys but they resolve it.
Aziel has never been able to have a relationship for fear that his family would use his partner as leverage to hurt him.
It's also why he keeps his distance from his friends.
He's always lonely but has resigned himself to that type of life.
As the boys become friends Declan abd Aziel also begin friends with benefits arrangement that quickly becomes more.
There's lots of action, danger and drama behind the scenes as events are put into motion to finally put an end to Aziel's evil family.
In order to do that, Aziel has to ask for help which he doesn't because he doesn't believe anyone can help.
I loved that even though Declan was basically thrown into this world without any knowledge he immediately takes it in stride and let's everyone know, especially Aziel, that he's not going down and willing to fight for them.

This is the 5th and final book in the Dallying With Demons series. This book is the most powerful of the series. This is the story of Aziel and Declan. Aziel is a demon who knows that one day his family will kill him. Just because he doesn't believe in killing humans just because they can. His uncle killed both his parents for being too soft. Declan is a human and has been cut from his family's life just because he is gay. He is doing everything he can to spend time with his much younger brother and to try and make his life better than his was. The two meet when Declan's brother and Aziel's cousin get into a fight at school. It was definitely not love at first sight. Inspite of that, the two eventually enter into a relationship. Both men are protectors. When the family makes good on their threats, all Aziel's friends join in to help. This is their story. I really enjoyed this book. The book is very well written and easy to read. Another great book by this author.

I received a complimentary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fantastic and emotional end to a wonderful series

My favourite couple so far has been Callum and Brandon from the first book but Aziel and Declan have claimed top spot in my heart now.
Ever since Az was introduced in Dating A Demon, I've been eager to read his story. I knew it wouldn't be like his four friends' stories and it definitely didn't disappoint. Callum and Brandon had drama and danger in their story but Az's whole life was lived on a knife edge, thanks to his murderous family. Heed the trigger warnings but read this if you can.
I loved how Az and Declan were protectors of their brother and cousin respectively, and that was what brought them together, and I also loved how the two young boys were as fierce as them. Athena appeared here much more than in the other books; I enjoyed every second she was present and I loved her history with Az.
Dallying With Demons is a fascinating and enjoyable series and I'm sad it has come to an end. I'm looking forward to the next series, Charmed Away Temp Agency, and I hope it's set in the same world as there's so much potential there.

“Saving a Demon” is the fifth book in the Dallying with Demons series by Amy Padilla. I have read all of the books in this series and each book gets better and better. This book was by far the best. It had me hooked from the first pages and I didn’t want to put it down. All of the books are fairly light, though they touch on some darker topics. This book is very different. There is a lot more violence and darker subject matter so mind the Trigger Warnings. The feel of the book being darker is needed for the character of Aziel, with what he has had to do and what he has had to do to survive.

The relationship between Aziel and Declan is fire, Starting as one thing and turning into another. They both have issues they deal with but come together when it matters. Adding in all of the friends, plus a few more characters was a great thing to read. Found family and friendships at their best.

I hope that there will be more books set in this world. It feels like there could be so much more to explore with all of the other characters and beings from the Other Realm.

I received a copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts.

I’ve read plenty of books about paranormals, but I’ve never read a book about a demon before. I really enjoyed Saving a Demon! These demons had the stereotypical red skin and had a tail and horns, but I never considered that a demon might have wings and fly. These demons were bullies as expected, but I also hadn’t considered that a demon might be bullied. Throw in some other paranormals, disabilities, discrimination, interspecies relations, gay characters, and tattoos, and this book was a winner.

This was my first Amy Padilla book and what I found was a new favorite author. The book was well-written and edited, the story well-paced, and the character development excellent with the characters being complex and multilayered. There was plenty of spice sprinkled throughout the book. Of course, being that there are demons, there is some brutality, so check your trigger warnings and don’t read the book if this bothers you. Overall, this was a great story about friendship, love, and found family, and I definitely recommend it.

Easily my favorite of the series.

Aziel the demon has been under his murdery uncle's violent thumb most of his life. He lives in the human realm, mostly to dig up dirt on his uncle's enemies, and is shocked when said uncle foists off his youngest son Dante on Aziel, and tells him to put the kid in a human school.

Declan is a tattoo artist with his own little shop. His religious parents semi-shuns him for being gay, but still "lets" him take care of his kid brother every day after school. Which is super hypocritical of them, but Declan loves Ollie and cherishes every moment with him. He is nervous around supernaturals after a bunch of witches tried to scam and then assault him.

The two are thrust together when both 9-year-olds get in a fight at school, shiners and all, and now Aziel and Declan have to deal with both their attraction and the murdery family, while still trying to do what's best for the kids.

She saved the best for last! Since we met him, I've been curious and wanted to know more about Aziel & his story; I knew it would be deep, intense, and painful, but absolutely worth it in the end, and it most assuredly was all of that, and then some! I didn't factor in kids, crime family, oracles & the like, but I definitely enjoyed reading all of it! Declan & Ollie were just what Aziel & Dante needed, whether any of them knew it or how it could even be possible. Together, they discover (often painfully) what family, friends, love, and safety are worth & what they'd do to keep them. Such a fantastic, well-told tale. I loved the humor, the "big showdown" scene was freaking intense, and the HEA was hard-won and well worth waiting for. Excellent conclusion (though I'm sad to see it end) to a wonderfully endearing series. Looking forward to more from this author!

The final book in Dallying with Demons, and I think Padilla's best work to date! The pacing is good, with a great balance between spice/relationship plot and action plot.

I really enjoyed Azrial and Declan's dynamic, and found them engaging! Azrial is the last of our Demon found family and the most mysterious up to know, finding out about his extremely reluctant work for his harsh criminal family! and trauma, struggles with being a soft, non criminal at heart drove the angst in this one! Declan is a human tattoo artist with a heart of gold, who sees Az for who he is....not who he shows the world. The joy of fated mates eh?! Very sweet!

There were cameos from our demon found family of course, which I loved. This book is technically stand alone, but I would suggest you read them all for the best experience.

*advanced read. thoughts and opinions my own*

I have been waiting for Aziel’s story since he first appeared in this series. Aziel’s life get turned upside down and all around in his journey with Declan. Their story is fast paced and full of emotions. My heart hurt for Aziel. He is a survivor and fights for those that he cares about and when Declan becomes one of those Aziel will do all that he can to keep him safe. I loved the way Declan and Aziel interact, the two are good together. They quickly endeared themselves to this reader and their story pulled on my heart. I enjoyed seeing Aziel begin to find happiness and safety the more time he spent with Declan. It was nice to see past characters and how they all came together to help. This book is an intense and engaging read. I hope that this is not the last time we get to visit this world.

This last book in the Dallying with Demons series is a fantastic way to end the series. It's a little darker than the the others. Not quite as lite and funny. The storyline is suspenseful. Some characters have to work to get their HEAs. With Aziel and Declan, it's a bare knuckled fight.
I started the book and couldn't put it down. Aziel and Declan sizzle. They're overprotective of their charges, Aziel's cousin and Declan's brother. Nothing sexier than a being willing to fight for their family.
All the other book's characters are supportive. And nosy. Definitely found family, even if Aziel doesn't realize it at first.
Worldbuilding is great. The storyline is crisp. The steamy scenes sexy as heck. Very enjoyable. A quick read with some tear inducing scenes.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

Aziel and Declan story was exciting but also with a touch of heartache for all the suffering the characters endured.
They had their hardships, and insecurities thanks to past experiences, and the circumstances that keep arising.
I liked their chemistry and how they learned to trust in each other, I liked the protectiveness and possessiveness, and ultimately their loyalty.
It had an emotional impact, but also sweetness and teasing.
I liked how the friends intervened when they were needed the most, the support and advices they provided.
They complete each other so beautifully, they learn new sides about themselves, and they thrive to be better each day.
I really liked this series and I hope to hear more of the characters.

I didn't expect to like this one ae much as a did but it's one of my favorites. i was worried the relationship would feel forced with Athena's prophecy being the driving factor but that worry eased pretty quickly and I loved how unexpected the dynamic between Aziel and Declan was. It was a suprise but also very sweet and felt fitting. I also liked what the kids, Dante and Ollie brought to the story.
I started this series as I'm waiting for the 4th book in the authors Charmed Away Temp Agency series to be released but now I kinda wish we got more of this group. The bonus scene for this book that you get from the authors newsletter is definetly worth it and I hope one day maybe she'll release a little novella that checks in on all the characters.

I'm sad this series is over - I really enjoyed it. In this final book, we get to Aziel's story and at last find out more about his awful relatives. His story was heartbreaking and I really felt for him. Declan, was a bit of a surprise, but I really liked him. He made Az give up control, but never forced him. He was protective of his brother and indifferent to his homophobic parents. Together they were explosive and finally, with the help of him friends, he got to live his happily ever after. It was lovely to spend a bit more time with Sophie and Dante, for all his anger, turned out to be a real sweetie, but the standout character for me was Athena. I love that wrinkly little oracle. 4.75*

Aziel has always been standoffish.
The more humans who are drawn into the demons inner circle the further he withdraws.

Now we know how deep this rabbit hole goes in this book. Ariel’s crime family is here to dominate and take over earth.

But what happens when one of them is not on board? There’s no
Sport or
Respect beating on the little
Guy.

Cue Declan. Semi guardian of his little brother, just trying to make a living and stay out of the otherworldly way.

So when Ariel’s nephew and Declan’s little brother join forces watch out.

Read along and find out how this unlikely duo save the day and find their happily ever after.

Aziel and Declan’s story is raw, fierce, and full of heart. Aziel, with his painful past and protective instincts, finds his match in Declan, a human who’s had to grow up too fast. Their connection is rocky, intense, and emotionally earned. I loved the power dynamic flips, the grumpy/protective energy, and the way trust had to be built slowly between them. Declan’s love for his brother mirrors Aziel’s love for his cousin, and the parallel made their bond feel even more fated. The family drama, the dangerous magic, the piercings (yes, those piercings), it’s all so well-woven. This one packed a punch and still gave us a hopeful, sexy ending that felt like salvation.

Absolutely love this series. Each book has been such a riveting read and this is no exception! The chemistry between Aziel and Declan was spot on and I thought the relationship development was perfectly paced, giving us a real in-depth to their character. Such an emotional journey for them both as they overcome their past suffering and hardships and fight all the new ones to give their relationship a chance. Great friends helped support them and added more insight into their lives.
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review.

Saving a Demon is the 5th book in the Dallying with Demons series. It can be read as a standalone but I think it's better reading the series in order. This is the story of Aziel a demon and Declan a human. This is another wonderful story to end the series with. It is full of heartache, protectiveness, and possessiveness. I so fell in love with the characters in this book. There is so much to learn for the guy to be able to get their happy ever after. I hate to say goodbye to this series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This was an amazing read, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in this Dallying with Demons series. This one was tough because of the way Aziel's family treated him, they abused him and forced him to gather information for them to use against humans.
I loved how hard he worked to protect Dante and encourage him to think for himself. I also loved Declan, he was such a caring guy and I felt so bad for him with his parent's attitude to him, they didn't approve of his choices but were happy to use him as free child care!
Loved how they stood up for and supported each other.

Aziel, a Demon, is abused by his Uncle and relatives who hate humans. Aziel doesn't mind humans and all his demon friends have mated with them. But he never thought he would find his mate in Declan, a human tattoo artist and become a parent to a younger cousin demon. Aziel is so brave, withstanding so much pain to protect others and Declan becomes his protector. It's a fitting conclusion to Amy's series with lots of action, passion and friends. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

Aw Aziel!! I wanted the best for him. His standoffishness always made me think someone had hurt him and well they had. This book is the best because not only did he get a happily ever after, he had to lean on his friends and be open with them about his life. He learned that they loved him regardless of his horrible family. And Dante. Oh that poor baby, I’m so glad he had a stand up demon like Az in his life. Meeting Declan and Ollie, getting his fated mate, man, this book was unputdownable. I’m sad the series is over. That sneek peak in the back though. Let it roll Amy, I’m ready for more!!

I have loved this series from the very beginning. I knew Ariel’s book would be the hardest to read due to his family. When tasked by his uncle to take his youngest son with him, Az was not happy but did what he was told. When he was called to the school for his cousin fighting, he meets Declan, Ollie’s older brother. the book started from there with both of them had to work together to help each other. Love this world with a great group of friends. I am going to miss this world and will definitely do a re-read.

I have enjoyed every book in this series, except this one. I made it about 60% in when I decided to just give it up. I didn’t feel any emotion between Az and Declan. I didn’t like Az being forced to bottom when he didn’t want to. Yeah, he did end up enjoying it but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I’d have liked it better if they were switches. Instead it felt almost dub-con. Then they are just told they were mates, there was no emotional realization. The kids were cute, I liked their little friendship.

I got side tracked by videogames , buuut I finally finished this book, Aziel's book was very different from the other books. It makes sense since his family is crazy and they are all psycho's.

Aziel has a really caring heart and is so much better than his family, he has great friends and people who care for him , he cares a lot about Dante his little cousin and wants the best for him.

Aziel's and Declan's story was not insta love like the first book or was romantic like the other 3 books , however it delivers cute and romantic moments towards the end of the book.

This one is a little darker than the others, but is told in a manageable manner. At least for me. There is some physical abuse against one of the MCs, so if that is an issue for you, steer clear. Just know that the rest of the group in the found family comes to his rescue, with everyone getting what they deserve. And the MCs get their HEA.

I noted only a couple of proofreading issues in the ARC.

Aziel & Declan

Aziel's crime family are looking for an excuse to get rid of him, he becomes a guardian of his young cousin Dante, together they learn to care for each other and how to get around family.

Aziel meets Declan when his little brother Ollie gets into a fight with Dante, the young boys become friends.
Aziel and Declan become involved and fall in love. Though they do go through hardship because of Aziel’s uncle, but all ends well.
