The theatre is packed, the popcorn is still warm and severely overpriced, and the curtains are about to open for the first time. Horror fans have gathered for the annual FearFest convention, and this year, despite the myriad reboots and remakes, an anxious buzz permeates the theatre.
It is the premiere of Larry 3D (or Larry 3-SQUEEE, thanks to the assholes behind its marketing campaign). Based upon true events (no, seriously!), the film recreates the rise, demise, and reanimation of Larry ‘Pigface’ Travers – a remarkable performance by Willem Dafoe which critics are already calling, “Unhinged!” and, “Truly awful!”.
But when the film starts rolling, the terror becomes all too real. Somehow, Pigface has passed through the dimensions, escaped the movie and landed himself slap-bang in the middle of reality. And now he has a theatre filled with horny teenagers to butcher. Magically pursuing a group of survivors in and out of classic horror films – Psycho, Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, and an accidental stop-off in Labyrinth (where a battle with Jareth’s crotch almost sends him back to the grave) - Pigface targets his highest body-count to date.
Adam Millard is the author of twenty novels, twelve novellas, and more than two hundred short stories, which can be found in various collections and anthologies. Probably best known for his post-apocalyptic fiction, Adam also writes fantasy/horror for children and Bizarro fiction for several publishers. His work has recently been translated for the German market.
This book was so wrong on so many levels that I loved it as much as the first one!
Look, I'm just a movie geek with a special place in my heart for horror films, and there were a gazillion inside jokes in this story, almost like AIRPLANE, so I was laughing throughout.
So, Larry's mom wants to resurrect him (again) at a horror movie convention with the premier of LARRY 3D. Who did they get to play him? Why, there is only one actor who could possibly portray this slasher madman - but Gary Oldman was not available. So they got the next best thing - an actor who has honed his craft over the years to expose his willy every chance he got. No, not Shia Ladeouf, the other one: William Dafoe! With a face like that, well, let's not be judgmental, but it might just be the wise choice to draw attention to his...ahem, almost said dick there...scrotum. And he will be the only one who will be able to save them. Or will he?
This was a blast. Even Ricks and Murtow from STUFF THAT had a part in this book.
Does it offend you? Who cares - you need to laugh in these crazy times.
Serious question: Why do they change the name William to Bill or Billy? Yip, just saw it - probably better than Willy...
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, and I'll shout it from the rooftops and take it to my grave…… the Larry trilogy is SO MUCH FUN!!!!
And once again the jokes come thick and fast, right from the off.
FearFest 2017 is the setting this time, with fans eager to see Larry 3D, the tale of a backwoods pig faced serial killer.
A mothers love for her son holds no bounds, she will do anything for him, no matter how sick, twisted and disgusting he is. And even when she's not very good at Latin, but does what she can to help, it makes for one crazy ass comeback. One where a new star is born, kicking and squeeeeing....again!
Another fast paced addictive romp, full of hilarity murder and mayhem, and with the added bonus of reliving some classic movies, albeit with a bit of a twist.
The humour reminds me of the old 80s comedy movies, like Airplane, Naked Gun, etc.. good old fashioned jesting that will constantly have you in stitches.
Don't be surprised if you get the overwhelming urge to Google Willem Defoe's penis while reading this! I might have succumbed to the temptation….🤷♀️
Oh and here's a couple of my favorite comedic quotes from the book as always….
"There was no escape, and she'd already anally ingested a bar of soap and two rubber ducks."
"If you could just stay over there, and don't go all mouldy granny on me, I reckon I could rub one out.”
"Adam Millard has a writing style that has been perfect for the three Larry books. His sense of humour and sarcasm and imagination to get the characters interacting with each other in the way he does? It’s just genius."
"Part Threes are usually shit. Good job I'm here to make sure this one is more Dream Warriors than Poltergeist III." Larry "Pigface" Travers. I loved Larry and Larry 2. Larry 3D uses the same successful formula that that the first two used but for some reason it just didn't work quite as well for me this time around. The cheesy one liners in the first two books continued until the reader groaned with amused frustration. They were here also but often I groaned without the amusement. There were some excellent 4 star moments in Larry 3D. I especially loved The Shining references and several times I found myself erupt in an unexpected laugh. While I did not enjoy this as much as the first two books, this was still an entertaining book. If you enjoyed the first two, I still recommend you read Larry 3D. The third movie in most slasher films are usually a let down. Larry 3D was better than most.
Slasher fans rejoice Larry 3d is the the last in an hilarious trilogy. And it's the best by far it's gross but oh so funny cannot recommend enough. Mostly because I'm too old for this !
3.5 stars but rounding up to 4 because it was mostly a pretty good time. This is without a doubt...the strangest book I have ever read. This series kinda reminds me of Sleepaway Camp...where the first one is funny but semiserious...number two in the series just goes straight camp with some gore...and three just goes off the deep end. The jokes here in this one were just a little too over the top that instead of laughing out loud, I was rolling my eyes and groaning a bit. Part of that was due to me just not finding many of the running jokes funny...so seeing them over and over again was kinda meh. But this series overall is fun...the first book is definitely the best...book 2 is still very good...and book 3 is...fine. If you like the rest of the series...give this a go...if the jokes hit you better than they hit me then this would be great. Unfortunately for me the jokes were mostly misses and that spoiled this one a bit for me. I MIGHT reread it if I was rereading the series...or I might skip it...but I'm glad I read it. Just finished Larry 3d by Adam Millard and it was good, if you want a book where all hell breaks loose and you don't know what the hell is going on, and it's just crazy as hell constantly and also funny as hell then pick this one up. Adam Millard's work is fantastic, this one was decent I really enjoyed the other two better but this was still a good one 3/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐
