In the glittering world of Broadway, where dreams take center stage and the city that never sleeps pulses with life, Heather McCarthy, a dazzling Broadway actress at the zenith of her career, meets Grace Elliott, a celebrated romance novelist poised to see her latest masterpiece leap from the pages to the silver screen.
As the two women from different worlds collide, their connection is electric, their passion undeniable, and a love story unfolds. But fate, of course, has other plans. Heather and Grace confront a heartbreaking ultimatum when Grace's movie adaptation demands Heather as its leading lady. The catch? The studio forbids any off-screen romance between the two.
With hearts torn asunder, their relationship takes an unexpected twist. Through late-night texts, phone calls, and voicemails, the flame of their connection refuses to be extinguished as they grapple with the tantalizing prospect of a love that could either defy all odds or shatter beneath the weight of industry expectations.
In the heart-stirring third act, Heather and Grace must confront the ghosts of their choices and decide if their love is worth the sacrifices demanded by fame and fortune. Will they rewrite the script of their lives, or will their careers that seemingly brought them together become the very thing that tears them apart?

**'It's good to always remember that trying to tell any story is like discovering new ideas -- but at the same time, good ideas will come if you let them --- and just don't write about anything..'
Meh! I really tried getting into this book but my patience ran thin -- no depth, puzzling & flat premise etc. etc. etc...
When Worlds Collide by Erin Zak is a celeb romance that you have to read.
What I love about this author is that she always manages to write that instant love/connection between her characters so organically. I feel it and I believe it. But what I love even more is that she always makes me fall instantly in love with those same characters, and that is magical.
Heather and Grace are two peas in a pod. These women have been through similar experiences, react to discomfort in similar ways, and are both ridiculously talented yet doubt themselves. I couldn’t love them more, even though at times I was screaming at them to open up, take a chance, and be seen.
This is a story about how you can be broken, you’re allowed to not have it together, and it’s okay to not be ok. It’s also a story about how you need to accept these things about yourself in order for you to then love yourself. And that is what this story did to me! It made me realise that those things you think are faults and flaws are not. You should surround yourself with people who love you because of them, and not in-spite of them. Love and friendship is about quality, not quantity. It’s ok to be alone, it’s ok to not want to be alone, and it’s ok to be you. Your feelings are valid and self-care is so important.
Heather and Grace are magnets in every sense. When they’re facing each other in the right mindset they are pulled together. As soon as their self doubts creep in they turn around and push each other away. I adored how they (eventually lol) learned that they don’t need to push, they can feel the negatives without turning around. They don’t need to turn their backs, they can still pull towards each other and deal with everything together.
There is a positive message about mental health in this book. About how everyone’s mental health journey is different, and not everyone is striving for the same outcome. Kudos to Zak for shining a light on therapy being an ongoing, long journey, that for some will never end.
It’s a gorgeous story of two kindled spirits who go on a journey adjacent to one another in order to be able to believe in the love they feel for and from one another. The romance and passion burns hot and deep, it’s all consuming, yet doesn’t take over.
I absolutely loved this story, I couldn’t put it down. It’s angsty and full of longing, but also very beautiful. There’s journaling and text message conversations that at times told me more than when the MCs interacted. That aspect was very clever.
Go, give it a read and I hope you fall in love with Heather and Grace as much as I did.
This book might have been written just for me. Celeb tropes are my favorite, I’m obsessed with musical theater and I love sapphic fiction. This story checks all the boxes!
Broadway musical theater star Heather McCarthy, in her early 50s, is the ideal person to play the lead in a motion picture adaptation of a wildly successful sapphic romance.
The moment shy, introverted author Grace Elliott sees Heather perform onstage, she is captivated and can’t imagine anyone else in the role. She’s exactly the right person to bring a character that means so much to her to life.
When they meet and get to know each other, sparks fly but the timing is terrible, to say the least. They’re both dealing with heartbreak and aren’t exactly free to explore what they could be to one another - as desperately as they want to. And when Heather ultimately lands the film role, there’s a stipulation in the contract that doesn’t allow for any interpersonal relationships between actors and those working behind the scenes. They can’t be together without jeopardizing their careers.
But when it comes to love, can anything control the unstoppable force?
Yes - there’s angst. Yes - the situation was messy. Nevertheless, I was completely invested.
Grace is a successful sapphic author. Her book The Tide Will Pull You Home has been on the NY Times best seller list for 3 years and is being made into a movie. She goes to a Broadway musical to see the lead actress Heather, who's up for the lead in her movie. When the two women meet, sparks fly and they have a torrid affair, until they're told to stop. There is a clause in Grace's contract that she can't sleep with the actors, including the leads. If she does, she's broken the contract. What do the two women have to do? This is a beautiful and resilient love story. 5 stars!!
Firstly, thank you, Erin, for this #ARC and the amazing opportunity to review your book.
Grace and Heather are meant to be, this books is such a rollercoaster ride of emotions, the connection between them is so strong you'd think that nothing will keep them apart, but for there carrears they have to put a hold on things. 😌 However, they are perfect for each other. Their chemistry is palpable and raw, and you spend the book wanting more and more from these two.
There are so many ups and downs in this book that you don't want to ever put it down. It is fantastic and brilliant and wonderfully written so many things I could rave about in this book. All in all, it is one phenomenal read that I can't recommend it enough!
Star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice rating. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Instant and explosive love. An all consuming exploration into finding that one person that sees all of you and loves you even more for it. This is another gem from Erin Zak. You can expect to tear through this story only to jump right back to the first page to start it all over.
I received an advance copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Grace Elliot is an introverted author that does not do well with people. She loves losing herself in her stories. Grace writes sapphic romance and is very, very good at it. So good, in fact, that one of her books is made into a film. Her agent knows who should be playing the lead role. So while in New York for business she goes to check out the actress. When Heather McCarthy steps onto the stage, Grace feels her world shift. This beautiful, talented, goddess of a woman is the actual dream woman she always writes about.
Heather McCarthy is a Broadway icon. She woos audiences night after night on stage. At home though, she is still trying to find her way back to herself after her divorce has left her questioning everything about herself. After fumbling a few lines during a show, Heather’s imposter syndrome is rearing its ugly head. So when a cute fan stumbles upon her table at the bar and tells her she is amazing, that’s really what she needed to hear at that moment. There is more about this woman though, Heather can’t quite put her finger on it, but this fangirl is stirring something inside of her that has lain dormant for far too long. Why she does it, she doesn’t exactly understand, but she invites the woman, Grace, back to the show the next night. Little does she know Grace might be the answer she has been looking for all her life.
Stumbling and awkward Grace stole my heart from the start. I loved that she is able to relax and be herself with Heather. The story alternates between Grace’s and Heather’s POV. It’s a great way to get to know them intimately. Both women seem to struggle with finding their way in life but I love how they are not afraid to realize the importance of the other and allow their feelings to explode instantly. It wouldn’t be a romance without significant struggle along the way of course, but their love never ceases.
Alright, some of the choices Grace and Heather make are not the most morally sound. Like Grace still being in a relationship when they first meet each other. Somehow, for me, that makes her even more human. We are messy, we don’t always make the best choices. Especially when our hearts are involved.
The truth is.. I don’t know how she does it! I just can’t help but fall in love with Erin Zak’s characters. It’s like she holds my heart inside the pages of her stories and I just know that after the last words, a tiny piece of my heart will always belong to her characters. Expect a sweet, torturous book hangover, but, believe me, you’ll happily surrender your heart and serve it up on a silver platter.
Erin Zak creates some of the best characters; readers easily connect with them. Such is the case with When Worlds Collide’s Heather and Grace. They possess a unique mix of qualities that make them admirable, yet relatable. They are complex women with vulnerabilities and strengths that resonate with readers, leaving quite an impression. Zak is somewhat of a master at this. She loves playing with real and raw vulnerabilities within her characters. She knows exactly how to balance the positive and negative energies within her leading ladies, and it elevates the storytelling. The result is a compelling narrative that readers care about.
This isn’t Zak’s first celebrity romance; she’s written a couple of others. Through them all, she’s shown that she knows how to give readers behind-the-scenes glimpses into a lifestyle that readers find captivating. She plays up the magic—glamorous women, designer clothing and fancy parties— while exploring the challenges of fame, public scrutiny and media attention. In regards to When Worlds Collide, she pursues the impact of Heather’s celebrity status as it concerns personal insecurities and issues. While the contrast between fame and normalcy is well played in this novel, it’s Heather and Grace’s romantic journey that truly hooks readers. The shared moments, the doubt and insecurity, the pressure from Hollywood execs—it’s intense and captivating.
While the love affair between Heather and Grace is a bit of whirlwind, Zak manages to keep it real by focusing on the trust, respect and commitment it takes to build a relationship. This registers with readers, making the storytelling more impactive and personal. What’s more, readers become emotionally invested in their journey; that’s largely due to the fact that she places them inside gorgeously scripted scenes. The nuance, tone and dialogue feel authentic and honest. She includes experiences that are not unique to celebrities; they are relatable to all. They are plausible challenges and opportunities, ones faced everyday by the ordinary individual. And while the celebrity romance does draw readers in, it’s the vulnerabilities exposed by life and the love gained by risk that keep the story most compelling.
Final remarks…
For the longest time The Road Home was my favorite Zak book. Then, she wrote Home for the Holidays and Heidi stole my heart. (No pressure, Erin, but could we see more of her someday?) Now, Zak has written this gem and I’m at a loss to say which book is my most favorite. It’s hard to choose. I think I love Zak’s writing because she understands her characters and that transfers to the page. Vulnerabilities are split wide open and readers cannot look away. They can only embrace it and love it.
Strengths…
Fantastically drawn, memorable characters Captivating storyline Wonderful secondary characters Well-written dialogue Well-scripted scenes Gorgeous love story
Erin Zak is one of the few that can make me read instalove and almost believe it. It’s my third book I am reading of her and I keep findind these «signature moves » she makes that I like : 1. Characters aren’t flat, living with their mental health issues and dealing with them, navigating through life without them being in the center, nor disappear by magic with love. They use the word fuck/fucking a bit too much, like it’s a breathing reflex, but I chose to see it as something therapeutic for the characters. They don’t want to seem perfect. The fact that they are in their 40's and 50's is something we don’t see enough. 2. Intense feelings and chemistry with a before and after meeting the other 3. Hot scenes that Hazel the dog must have had an eyeful of for at least two nights. Poor baby must have been dying to go out while Mommy was getting debauched. The part of me that doesn’t believe in insta-love was glad Zak gave them some time apart. Though I still wonder what prevented them from keeping in touch by texting each other more without it being a breach of contract and how Michael learned about it. Is he CIA or something? Okay, it would probably have made things harder to not see each other or cross the line. Overall, the book is really easy to read, and I had a good time reading it.
I usually enjoy Erin Zak's books but this was kind of a slow one where not much happens. The three act structure is strange because most of the book is act 1 and for a set up that is stated in the blurbs, it takes a good 50% of the book to arrive at it. Once we get there, we switch to act 2 which goes from POV chapters to (inane) diary entries and text messages, which, again, feels like not much is happening in terms of character development or the plot moving forward. The central premise that a movie studio has the ability to ban fraternization at all between the author of a book and the star of her book's adaptation is absurd. More so because they have a pre-existing relationship that they simply need to disclose. What would a studio do? Force people who are already dating to not interact at all over any medium for a silly clause? Absurd.
Additionally, the ex-husband of one of the MCs being the agent of the other main character felt very forced. If your agent is being untrustworthy and weird about your relationship with his very much ex wife, you can simply fire the agent and get a new one instead. Also if your ex-husband is showing up unexpectedly at your house, you do not need to hide your new relationship from him because it is literally none of his business. Very odd "complication" for the sake of having a villain figure in the story.
Unfortunately, none of the characterizations made much sense, the plot plods along at a snail's pace and the complications are absurd. I added half a star for the first act because it starts off promisingly.
Meh. I think the premise was good but the execution sadly wasn't. Did not feel connected to the main characters or the story. I wanted to really like it but i feel like the character's actions or thoughts weren't articulated enough. The flow of the story was a bit choppy. I guess their personalities were decent enough that i could read through the whole story. I wanted more depth to the celebrity aspect and maybe more into their traumas. The side characters were underdeveloped and were pretty much doing the same thing throughout the book. The romance was weird and i felt it went too fast. The insta love was definitely not believable to me, and it made me it significantly less enjoyable. The writing was okay. 2.5 stars.
This book had me in my feelings. You fall in love with the characters individually as you watch them fall in love with each other and heal themselves. Such a beautiful depiction of a more mature love, support, understanding and relationship.
I usually really struggle with insta-love or even insta-connection tropes but Zak’s writing, and exploration of the internal dialogue of both main characters, makes this so effortlessly believable.
I have read almost 90 sapphic books in my current reading hyperfixation and have only been able to give around 15 of them 5 stars- and yet I knew before I even finished this book that I would give it more if I could!
I couldn’t put it down.
Now going to devour anything else Erin Zak has ever written!
Erin Zak has done it again. She has created a love story that hits you in the chest, hard. The two main characters Grace and Heather are lovable and hurting but searching and learning to love wholeheartedly. Heather is divorced from Michael who decided he didn’t love her anymore and left her hurting and Grace is in a relationship with Darby who is mean and miserable but they have been together so long that she knows she has to end it but is dragging her feet. Heather is A Broadway actress on the verge of Tony nominations and Grace is a successful sapphic author living in Chicago who doesn’t like to be in the limelight but is now having one of her books brought to the big screen with requirement of her being involved. As these two paths cross, there is a connection and chemistry that has shocked both of them. But just as their attraction is growing, it seems that they are not the only ones to consider. What happens to two people who fall hopelessly but are being kept apart? How does a relationship form when they are in two different states? With hearts hurting but both having to move forward, can there be a future where happiness exists. Excellent read with the right amount of sadness and heartbreak and happiness of an over abundance of love.
Erin Zak wrote another fantastic book. Her characters are seamlessly paired, and both have troubles that need healing. They are stronger together but strive for completion on their own. Their instant connection is powerful and doesn't waiver. The angst is from the outside, not caused by either MC. It is remedied timely and brilliantly. Both MCs found their own healing path while apart, yet when they came back together, the stars showed brighter. If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of this book. From setting, character, and character development, the premise and all the in-between, this book hooked me from the beginning. It was very difficult to put the book down when life got in the way, I was picking it up back as soon as possible. I will look forward to the next book that will come our way. I can't wait for dazzling stories by this author.
I loved this story. I'm annoyed that I can only give it 5 stars. I have to rethink any other book I ever gave 5 stars to because they don't compare to how much I loved this one. I love Grace & Heather's story. I usually don't like insta-love, but the way Erin Zak writes it, I'm a believer!
I just love how Erin’s books are so raw, they pull you in and give you enough to keep reading until you’re knee deep and can’t put it down. I loved Heather & Grace, the chemistry & how it fell apart & was put back together again.
"You spend hours wondering if you still even know what love is. But then you meet someone who reminds you that your heart still works."
WHY?! Why am I just now discovering the captivating experience of an Erin Zak book? WHY? This is only my second novel of Erin’s and I am completely enamored with both her writing style and the beautifully broken and raw characters that she writes. When Worlds Collide pulled me in from page one and if stupid life hadn’t gotten in the way I probably would have finished this in a day. But in some ways I’m glad I didn’t because I got to enjoy the experience longer.
This story was a beautiful combination of celebrity romance, forbidden love, and instant attraction that immerses you into the world of live theater, screenwriting, and movie making - allowing you enough of a peek behind the curtain to experience life through the lens of the main characters.
I am not a big insta love fan. It is one of my least favorite tropes. The connection can so often feel forced and inauthentic and I have a hard time buying into it. But the way Erin writes these stories - I fall in love with these characters as quickly as they fall for each other.
Heather and Grace stole my heart from the start! Both as individuals and as a couple. I saw so much of myself in each of these two women. The insecurities and imposter syndrome. The fears and anxiety. I absolutely adore them both. They were real and authentic and utterly relatable. They are both beautifully imperfect people who struggle with focusing too much on their flaws and imperfections - the “bad parts” they don’t feel anyone should want or love. And UGH! There were so many statements and questions that I could have been making myself throughout this book.
I live with insecurity and low self-esteem every day. I know the pain that comes from always wondering what is wrong with me, if I’ll ever be enough, if anyone could ever love all the bruised, broken, and ugly parts of me. And I felt so seen and understood reading this book…like Erin somehow pulled the thoughts right out of my head and put them on the page. And as Heather and Grace began to heal, I felt their story and words healing me a little bit too.
And add to all that the undeniable chemistry between these two, the pining and longing (Act 2 killed me in all the best ways), and the heat between the sheets - this story had it all! I loved the growing sexual tension between them…and that first kiss was everything I wanted it to be and more. And once they finally open that door…🎇🥵
I also loved reading a book with an MC that has been divorced more than once. It’s not something you see a lot of in books and as someone who has been there…it was nice to see that representation. And to see her find love again. The kind of love that heals parts of you you didn’t even realize were broken. A love that helps you finally realize you are enough.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

God this book. 5 fucking stars. I loved everything about it, I related to so much and I think I needed to read it at this point in time. It’s for sure going to have a special place in my heart (and on my favourites shelf haha). The love between grace and heather was something special - I adored their connection and the chemistry between them was *chefs kiss*. Their communication was also pretty great, until they eventually stopped speaking due to the circumstances and doubt/overthinking entered the picture (can definitely relate to grace on that front, it’s a curse). That was heartbreaking, seeing them almost miss their chance again because both were scared and unsure of where they stood after so many months apart, wondering if the other still felt the same or whether they’d moved on. I loved the conversation they had after heather was brave enough to take that chance though, the vulnerability and reassurance and just genuine love between them was really beautiful to witness. So so happy these two got their happy ending, and I loved the message that love can prevail even after so much time apart.
Overall this book was a bit of a rollercoaster. It had me grinning and kicking my feet like a kid at parts. It made me laugh, it made me sad at times and a little frustrated, but in the end it left me smiling. Definitely enjoyed the ride. 100% recommend.
Oh also the spice - 10/10. Like god damn… yes. Just yes. And I’ve definitely got a major crush on heather ✨
I cannot put into words just how good this book is. It’s impossible to even try. You won’t find a single word, sentence, paragraph or chapter that doesn’t belong. This book pulls you in from the start and you won’t want to stop reading. I personally love musical theatre so this setting is right up my street. The characters are just perfectly written, yes they are both a little broken but aren’t we all. The way they instantly click, but also try to fight the connection is brilliant. The side characters add so much to it as well. And let’s not forget Hazel the dog. The middle/filming section broke me. Even though you know it’s a book and they are going to end up together it still had me thinking will they/won’t they. Communication is definitely the key. This is a book I will definitely be recommending, I hadn’t even finished it and it was added to my buying list. Truly a beautiful read that hits all the feels. Thanks Erin Zak for taking me on this journey. Outstanding.
Erin Zak is a sapphic romance genius. This spectacular book make me laugh, swoon, shed a few tears, sob with an abundance of tears, smile, sigh, and then feel like the earth was back rotating on its axis again. I felt every emotion that came from Grace and Heather in this book. It is so well written that they captured my heart in the beginning and never let go. And oh my God their chemistry is undeniable and hot, hot, hot. Grace and Heather's story is just so captivating and beautiful. Erin is a master at creating relatable, loveable, complex, and compassionate female characters. There are a few books that have left indelible marks on my heart and soul. When Worlds Collide just joined those precious books. Don't miss out on this masterpiece.
Erin Zak is great at writing tension - I could not stop turning the pages! The chemistry and spice were both there, and I felt for these women and loved the way they understood each other so completely. As characters, though, they weren’t my favorite, and I had a hard time understanding some of their choices. However, I think a lot of people will really enjoy this one and the rich world of Broadway that Erin brings to life on the page. I also think she handled anxiety really well, and the group of friends were entertaining to read.
Short summary: When Grace and Heather meet, their spark is instant and burns hot. But when Heather is offered the lead in a movie based on Grace’s bestselling novel, the pair have to put their love on hold - or do they?
Thank you to the author. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fantastic experience. I loved these characters 😍 I couldn't put it down, and I'm sad that it's over. This was a hit. I'm glad Grace and Heather found each other. I want more. Great job, Erin 👏 👍 👌
An astonishingly wonderful tale. I love show business stories. This is, I believe, only the second one I’ve read about Broadway. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
Erin Zak knows how to write about two complete strangers that have an instant pull toward each other. Call it fate, call it love, whatever you call it, the undeniable feelings that Grace and Heather have for each other is a force to be reckoned with. During their time apart and dealing with separate issues, the hurt, longing, and unkept loneliness that both endured had my heart break slowly. I don’t know how she does it but man, do you feel certain emotions reading this book. And the side characters have some sort of comedic relief to the plot. Amazing all around.

I read this over an evening/early morning because I just could not put it down. This is a phenomenal story that will make you fall in love with the main characters. It is beautifully written and paced and I am just so in love with it.
