When artisans are found dead by the tools of their trade, FBI Agent Faith Bold must hunt for an elusive killer. Can she and her loyal dog uncover the truth? Or will they become pawns in a deadly game of retribution?
FBI Special Agent Faith Bold doesn’t believe she can ever return to the force after the trauma she’s been through. Suffering from past demons, she feels unfit for duty and content to retire—until Turk walks into her life. Turk, a former Marine Corps dog, wounded in battle, suffers from his own demons. But he never lets it show as he gives everything to Faith to get her back on her feet. Each are slow to warm up to each other, but when they do, they are inseparable. Each is equally determined to hunt down the demons chasing them, whatever the cost, and to watch each other’s backs—even at the risk of their own life. A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured FBI agent, the Faith Bold series is a riveting mystery, packed with non-stop action, suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Faith and Michael are sent to investigate the killing of artists with the only link among them being they were killed using the tools of their craft. It takes them quite a few worthless leads and four bodies to finally catch the culprit and understand his motivation. Back home Faith has to tackle another fight - Wes, the killer who is tracking her - makes his next move. So Haunted has a great plot, and I like the main characters - Faith and Michael -, however, there's too many repetitive parts in the story that could be left out without harming it. I thank Ms. Pierce for this ARC.
The virtual narration and AI writing are getting worse - I’m only continuing to listen because I have a hard time stopping once I start a series. The virtual (“synthetic”) narrator glitches non-stop, there is a weird scratching noise throughout and there are so many common words that get mispronounced. And I’m sick of hearing “Victoria” say “asterisk, asterisk, asterisk” when the scene changes within a chapter. Even a little editing to the audio and writing would go a long way on improving these books.
Even after 14 books this feels new and fresh and there are many plot twists to keep you interested. There is references to prior books and events that happened but done to show the frame of mind of the main characters. These books are real page turners, and I have been binge reading them well into the night since the book is so hard to put down.
Faith, Michael and Turk go to Chicago to investigate the murder of an Ambassador's daughter who a sculptor. Then other artists start dying and the race is on to find the connections between them and the killer. Very good read with a surprise for Faith after she gets home!
I am so done with this series, I just can't keep going 200 pages at a time through another 4 or 5 books to find out the conclusion. This is not up to Blake Pierce caliber.
