He thought he didn't care what had happened to his mother after she disappeared all those years ago. But, the past has a way of rising from the, er, dead when least expected.
Niall regrets answering that mid-morning phone call.
In the past few years, Niall's learned to open up his heart an inch or two. He doesn't like it one bit, but it's proving impossible to slam it shut again.
Of course, his beloved husband, Mat, and the few people he thinks of as friends rally around him after he learns Ana's remains have been found--but will they be enough? Will the discovery bring him closure, or will it open a whole new can of worms?
Niall's guess is worms, but he's a glass-half-full guy.
Full Disclosure is a Veiled Intentions novella set a few years after Black Moon. It is book four in the series and cannot be read as a standalone.
Elle Keaton is a writer, avid reader, and amateur cat-wrangler. Her love of romance novels has led her to a life of creating her own happy ever afters. She is the author of the best selling series' Shielded Hearts and Veiled Intentions. Keaton hails from the Pacific Northwest, where she lives with her husband and cats.
Niall didn't want to know. He thought he didn't care what had happened to his mother after she disappeared all those years ago. But the past has a way of rising from the dead when least expected.
The story is set a few years after book three in the series, Mat and Niall are still happily married, living and working on Piedras Island, surrounded by family and friends, along with their big dog and a cat that is sure she is a human trapped in a fur coat.
Niall receives the news that a body has been recovered that is 99% sure to be his mother who abandoned him on a street when he was 10 years old. At the same time, Mat who is the sheriff on the island, is investigating an unexplained death of a man found in his car on the island ferry...so Mat and Niall find they have their hands full causing them to spend a large part of the book apart. Nial found another big surprise when he learned that he has a younger half-brother, Dakota, in Wyoming, that he never knew existed. At first their meeting was awkward...neither really knowing what to say or how to act. Niall planned to have a small ceremony on the island for his mother where her ashes would be sent out to sea, and he asked his new-found brother if he'd like to be a part of that and while on the island meet the rest of the family. Niall and Dakota spend the time and the effort to learn about each other, and when Dakota leaves the island to return to Wyoming, they both know that they have established a friendship that will last the rest of their lives.
It's always good to have a revisit with this main couple meet a few other old friends, make some new friends that will reappear in other books, even in some of Elle Keaton's other series. The investigations are always interesting but don't take up the entire story. I do wish that this had been a longer story with more Mat and Niall interactions, but overall, I was thrilled to have another glimpse into Mat and Niall’s lives. I hope Ms. Keaton never runs out of ideas for these series on Piedras Island.
Ok, I just HAD to listen to this immediately after finishing the previous one😅 Matt gets a murder case on the island while Niall's DNA turns up in an old case. This will not only bring the answer to what happend to his mother who disappeared - he finds out . For me this is the perfect read right now. No drama but that doesn't mean it's boring. I'm not sure I can leave this island so I probably will go for the spin-off series.
“So, your guy is slightly sour, with a little tang and some spice?”
Well I read all 4 of these books in a row so I am going to just give a little bit what I think of each book without going into it. Overall this is just a book for closure, to wrap the entire series and the life and love of Mat and Naill to a close and I am okay with that. I liked it a lot, and meeting a new character and getting news about other relationships was interesting. I assume this came out after another series was started since this is a few years in the future after the 3rd book. Anyways I liked it and I am glad Naill and Dakota got some closure. I would of loved more relationship building between the two of them, but in the end Naill isnt that type of dude so I can see why that didnt happen. Overall it was a pretty good ending to the 4 books. I enjoyed the series overall. Just another notch on my belt of addiction to MM mystery cop romance.
A nice followup to an M/M couple introduced to me several years ago. The author says she never really gave them a folloup look at their relationship in the next two books she wrote and I agreed. I didn't pay attention much to Book #2 and didn't read Book #3 because Matt and Niall weren't featured. So glad we got a really good look at their lives now, their love and their happy home.
The main thread in this story was Niall finding out what happened to his mother. Her remains turn up in Barstow, CA (a long way away from the Puget Sound, Washington (and personally one of the most desolate places I ever had to pass through). Seems she was murdered there several years go and her body emerged during a flood. In investigating her murder Niall turns up a new half-brother.
So if you read Book #1 in this series, I'd say this book would be quite enjoyable reading for any Matt and Niall fans.
Fantastic addition to the series. We get an introduction to more family for Niall and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the characters! Mat and Niall are the best and I always welcome an opportunity to see them together!
Niall is working a cold case and gets a call that his DNA has a match to another old case, his mother Ana’s remains. He also has a match to someone else, a half brother.
Niall goes to learn what he can about Ana, who was found in a culvert, and there’s little information, then he travels to meet Dakota and give him the news. Dakota is suspicious, of course, and has his own anger towards Ana, but his friend encourages him to attend the funeral on Piedras.
Mat, meanwhile, has a strange case of a man who’s found in his car in the ferry, a bullet in his head. The man wasn’t well liked, but they manage to track down his old friend in real estate, who is innocent and explains what happened.
Dakota comes to the island, and Mat and Ryder have to play hosts to get the two brothers to talk. Eventually, Mat reads them the riot act, telling them they need to work at getting to know each other.
Dakota has just graduated from school to be a cop, so he and Niall work on Ana’s case, and together they learn the truth about who murdered her.
I loved this book, which closed the loop on Niall’s mother, and brought in his brother, a great twist. It was hilarious when both gruff men spent time in silence until Mat got them to try, and they found the common goal of solving their mother’s murder.
Very cool that characters from Cooper Springs and Colliers Creek came into play. This is my favourite series of Elle Keaton’s, and this novella doesn’t disappoint.
I received this ARC for free, and am writing my honest review in appreciation.
Reviewed for Love Bytes – 5 Hearts. While working on several cases for West Coast Forensics, Niall receives a call with news of his long-lost mother. While Niall chases answers and looks up relatives, Mat’s responsibilities keep him on the island, investigating the discovery of a body that has him chasing clues while wishing he was with Niall. When I saw this book come up for review, I had a fangirl moment – squeal, clapping hands, and all. Welcome back to the world of Hamarsson and Dempsey. This incredible world has had an extra novella added to the mix. The series is now called Veiled Intensions, and according to Amazon, this book is number four of seven. Do they have this right?? The author’s note at the end makes me wonder. Whether the answer is yes or no – I can yell a big WUHOOOO because I fell in love with the world created by Elle Keaton, and I felt a little cheated at the end of book three as there were a few loose ends. I’m still waiting to see if what Fenrir found has any bearing on a particular cold case. Either way, I am thankful for this extra novella and can say that 2024 looks a iddy-bit brighter. The tale is told in the third person, with chapters from three viewpoints. As with the other books, World Building is detailed in a way that made me feel like I was a deputy helping with the investigation. It's very fly on the wall. It was so easy to slip back into their world. It was like wearing that well-worn jumper that makes you want to curl up with a pack of biscuits and your favorite movie, thinking of home. I don’t know if I scored this well because of my love for the world, and I'm chuffed that the series continues. Then again, the world is just that good, and I didn’t put it down until the end when I was sorely disappointed that the next novel wasn’t available. Damn, if I say too much, I’ll give secrets away – gahhhhh – toys out of the cot moment from me. I want to tell you this and that and, and, and… Anyhoo. Seeing a slightly thawed Niall without losing his more stoic side was lovely. Proof of his husband’s influence. Their marriage is tightly unshakable, and their bond shines like a beacon. The wariness of the early days is replaced by total trust. Fenrir and Hel ensure their humans are doing the right thing, too – adding a few scenes that make this series so wonderful. Niall is following a highly personal cold case, and Mat has a live one with a dead body. Both provide revelations, action, and serious detective work alongside the red tape and hoops law enforcement officers must jump through to get information. Also, at a particularly poignant moment, a few of the island’s character residents make a brief appearance. It was a scene that had me welling up. Whether there are more in this series or not, this is one loose end that is tied up with a bow. Although, with new characters in the mix, the door is left ajar. Hopefully, Elle Keaton’s demanding public will ask more questions like, what happened to… that encourages this talented (and then some) author to, reach for inspiration and write more. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
Mat and Niall are back with not one but 2 deaths. Niall receives a call that his DNA was matched with a female's remains found in Barstow, CA 10 years ago. Niall had always suspected that his mother, Ana, was dead. However, he is surprised to learn that she was alive for nearly 20 years after she abandoned him and that his DNA also matches a young man, Dakota Green, who lives in Collier's Creek, Wyoming. Niall heads to Barstow, CA to look at Ana's case file and talk to the detectives there and then goes to Wyoming to inform his 24 year old half brother of Ana's fate and of the memorial he is planning to have on Piedras Island. He finds a physically younger version of himself who is even angrier than Niall was at that age. Dakota was abandoned at the ranch Ana worked at when he was 14 years old. Fortunately, the family there took him in, and he is best friends with their son, Tad. Niall and Dakota briefly talk but don't really connect and Niall leaves his information with Dakota. Meanwhile, on Piedras, Mat has a dead body that was found in a car on the ferry. The man has a gunshot wound with gunshot residue on his hands but no gun is found and the man's wallet is missing. Unfortunately, the camera for that deck on the ferry was not working. They get a tentative ID from the car registration/license plate that the victim is Arsen Hollis, a real estate agent. We get to see Xavier Stone from Cooper Springs and his partner, Wade since Arsen was Xavier's ex-boyfriend. Niall returns home, and Dakota shows up a few days before the memorial. This time Matt is there as well as Ryder and Shay to help the two brothers communicate with each other. It was really interesting how Mat and Birdie worked the ferry case, and it showed how a lot of police work is tedious details with splashes of violence. It also demonstrated how solving a cold case can involve someone remembering a detail in relation to a name. It was great to see Ma and Niall again and to finally find out what happened to Ana. I also loved how Dakota was a mini version of Niall with the same grumpy character. I really hope we get Dakota's story and that it involves his best friend, Tad.
In Full Disclosure, we return to the author's Veiled Intentions world featuring Matt Dempsey and Niall Harmassson, who have settled into happy domesticity on a island near Seattle, Washington with Fenrir the wolfhound and Hel the hellcat. It begins with Niall taking a call that notifies him that his DNA on file has matched with a dead body found ten years prior in Barstow, California. The deceased is his mother, Ana, who abandoned him as a young boy to a life of addiction. Niall is unsurprised at the news, but what does surprise him is more news: the existence of another brother- Dakota, currently living in Wyoming. So he hops on a plane to Barstow to investigate and claim his mother's body for proper burial... then goes to Wyoming to notify Dakota, and invite him to Cooper Springs for the funeral. That meeting doesn't go well.
Meanwhile, Matt is dealing with a dead body found in a car on the ferry docking at Copper Springs. CSPD quickly determines the man died suspiciously, i.e., a bullet to the head. Only there's no gun and the deceased's phone is missing. Matt and Birdy are struggling with this case, as they can't figure out why he was on island, and who would kill him,
This series is interconnected with the author's other series, this time featuring several return characters from her West Coast Forensics books, and as well as a cameo from Xavier & Vincent from Adverse Conditions, her other recent Reclaimed Heart series.
This was a quick decent read. Was happy to see Matt and Niall again. Some of the prose was a bit clunky, lots of out of place interjections (however, naturally, but of course, etc) that threw me off. Was glad the two cases didn't become "coincidentally intertwined." Felt like the author was trying too hard to bring in other characters for unnecessary scenes which slowed down flow of the story. Also weird to me was the POV switched each chapter between Niall and Matt... then suddenly about 60% Dakota's POV was being introduced.
Just as I thought, reading Books 1-3 of the West Coast Forensics series after 1-3 of this series, and then reading this book is all that’s really needed. Niall finally finds out what happened to his mother and how.
The reasons I gave it 3 stars instead of 4: 1) I can’t relate to being compelled to take full responsibility for the body and memorial of a person who really never gave 2 s***s about me. I’ve been a practitioner of reciprocity since childhood. 2) There’s a line where it’s said that Ana abandoned Niall on a city street. This is quite an important fact for an author to forget. In Book 1, a major part of the plot was Niall having nightmares about being left alone in a closet frequently, until one day his mother never came back for him. He was in the closet for days until one of her friends found him and left him on a bench near a police station. 3) Niall says to Mat that he appreciated him not bringing up Niall’s being locked in a closet and there was a house fire. What house fire? There wasn’t one. Another big thing to forget.
Niall finds out he has another, younger half-brother, which for the most part is an unnecessary plot line, IMO, but it helps to wrap up what happened to Niall’s mom.
Still unsure about reading Cody’s and Dutch/Foster’s stories. If Cody would’ve gotten with Foster I’d be more interested.
NOTE: There are absolutely no sexy times in this book. Barely a kiss.
This is not a standalone! You absolutely need to read the first three books in Veiled intentions series first and I hope you'll enjoy the ride as much as I did. Actually I've read it more than once. This series is a must read for all the lovers of slow burn, angst, small town romance/mystery/law enforcement and I guess kinda enemies to lovers. I loved this conclusion of the series. Nial has his questions answered no matter if he wants it or not. He's convinced that he made a peace with his mother's disapiarence, but that just him bottling his emotions. There's also a big surprise waiting for him, that, in his true nature, he's not convinced if he's happy with it or not. It's also very realistic. Although Mat and Nial are going stronger than ever, Mat can't help a lot. He's stuck with another mystery case and Nial's past leads him on a long road trip. I really appreciated the realism of feels. You won't find a lot of heat in this one, but it's exactly the way it's supposed to be. In this story heated intimate scenes would be really out of place. Although you'll find a lot of love and burning attraction along with the usual suspects from the series that will make you smile including Fenrir and He'll. This series wouldn't be the same without them. I feel that this book leaves a huge opening for a spin off, so I'm hoping for one in the near future.
If You haven't read Veiled intentions series, read it as soon as possible! Do not wait.
I LOVE Niall and Mat. like really really LOVE THEM! I would read anything, absolutely anything as long as Elle Keaton wrote a story about these two and Piedras. I love this series' vibe, I always feel like I'm on a small island, where everybody knows each other and there is (almost) no secrets.
I can't express how happy I was when this ebook arrived in my email. I swear I could hear and feel the wind from the ocean...
I love this whole series, the climat, all characters, little community and its problems. I truly think thi is one of the best series I've read and this is a great finish, now everything is solved and even Niall's mother had her mystery solved.
It took me some time, but I think that mini-Niall was a great idea, hopefully we'll get a book about him SOON ( I wish he came to Piedras so we could enjoy Mat, Niall, Shay, Rayder, Claribel some more but oh well.. he might have other plans). Dakota was likable, but it was obvious he was lonely and sad, meeting Niall and his "family" was what he needed.
This is an interesting, very fast paced story with not one but 3 (!) mysteries solved and it is amazingly written!
* I was gifted an ARC copy of this amazing book and this is my honest review *
Back up to the same old on Piedras Island with more bodies and mysteries to solve. Things don’t seem to be that quiet on this island and I was looking forward to reading one more story of Mat and Niall and seeing the characters of this universe again. This story has to be read as part of the series and is the follow up to the first three books.
The book starts with an update on the greatest mystery that’s been underlying throughout the whole series - the fate of Ana Hamarsson. And while Niall heads off to deal with the aftermath of his surprise phone call by flying along the western par of the country from California to Wyoming, Mat is left to deal with a perplexing mystery and body that has more questions than answers.
Meeting Dakota’s character was like holding up a mirror for Niall and a chance at self reflection for how far he’s come in his journey and what a difference in who he is in as a character from book 1 to now along with the family he’s made with Mat and their furry companions.
I loved seeing cameos from other series as special guests in the book and meeting new characters that I hope eventually get their own story somewhere in the Elle Keaton universe, *coughs* Dakota and Tad. This has been an interesting series and I enjoyed this last part of the journey for this pair of characters.
This is the fourth and final book in the Veiled Intentions series. Each book is not a standalone. You really must read them in order to understand who is who in the story. You will be happy that you did. This is the story of Niall and Mat. Niall is a retired police officer and currently works for West Coast Forensics. He is trying to solve a cold case when a colleague calls with news that upsets his world. Niall is married and is the grumpy part of the relationship. Mat is an ex police officer as well but he currently holds the job of Sheriff for Piedras County. He is friendly, considerate and the sunshine part of his marriage to Niall. He knows his husband well and supports him in all his decisions. When Niall goes off to investigate the circumstances around his estranged mother; Mat stays home and does his job. He too is busy with a mysterious death. I loved meeting Dakota Owen Green. He is exactly like a mini me of Niall. This is their story. I really loved this book. It is very well written and easy to read. It is like visiting old friends if you have read the previous books. I am sorry to see the end of the series.
I received a complimentary advanced review copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a revie
Readers must read the first three books in the Veiled Intentions series to understand the complexities of this book. Niall has been haunted all of his life by his mother’s disappearance. There has ben speculation as to her fate but it has all been in the background. In this final installment of the Veiled Intentions series closure is provided. I am not sure how I feel about the closure; on one hand it was nice to have the full story, however during the previous three books I liked that there was one mystery, a personal that eluded Niall. Back on Piedras Island Mat is faced with a strange “locked room” murder case. Meanwhile Niall receives a call that will upend his life when it is revealed that a DNA match has identified his mother’s remains. Curiosity gets to him and he leaves the Island to retrieve the remains. When trying to unravel the mystery of Ana’s death, Niall discovers he has another half-brother who he needs to notify of the discovery of the remains and plan a memorial service for his mother. This was a quick resolution novella that was a quick read and provided the intended closure.
A worthy conclusion to Niall and Mat’s story, these two have come so far. I enjoyed getting to see Niall and Mat living the happy life they deserve, which definitely felt like a long shot early in series. I’ve loved Niall’s evolution especially. He has definitely become a bit more open, you can see Mat’s influence, but I appreciate he still feels like Niall. He is still brooding, people still test his patience, but the darkness has lifted- some. He’s a really well crafted and compelling character. This one has two final mysteries to solve, and I enjoyed both of them. This author is very skilled a creating twisty and suspenseful mysteries and I loved finally learning what happened to Niall’s mother. The world building is exceptional, the way all the series are connected is one of my favorite things about reading Elle Keaton books. This was a great couple, they are very different in personality but fit so together well, so it was pretty cool to catch up with Niall, Mat, and Fenrir. Love this couple.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It'd totally passed me by that there would be another return to Piedras Island, yet here we are with not one but two murders to solve...one of them being Niall's own mother. Yes, I always did wonder if there was a story there, but I didn't think we'd actually get it. Niall can't help but take a look at the case and has to deal with the unknowns that come with it. Mat, meanwhile, has a body found on the ferry from the mainland, a crime scene that reveals little and a not particularly nice victim.
It's so good to get another investigative journey with these two characters, but the star of the show of course is the wonderful relationship these polar opposites continue to forge. Love it! There are also cameos from some Piedras Island regulars and a new guy to get to know. And let's not forget Fenrir and Hel... let's face it we know who really runs the show in the Harmarsson household.
Full Disclosure is a great addition to the Veiled Intentions series - spice-free but all heart and, for me, just like an unexpected visit from old friends. 4*
Full Disclosure came about because of a Kickstarter campaign that Elle Keaton ran last year. A novella was one of her stretch goals and she ended up giving us a shortish novel instead – yay!
I've been a huge fan of Elle's writing since I read Storm Season back in 2017 and I've read nearly everything she's published since then. I was so excited when I learned that she was writing a new story about Niall and Mat. And what a great story it is!
We already know from the blurb that the remains of Niall's mother, Ana, have been found but there are other surprises in store for readers. I'm not doing any spoilers so I'll I'm going to say is I loved everything about this book and fans of the Veiled Intentions series (FKA Hamarsson & Dempsey) won't want to miss this fantastic story. OK, I'll say one more thing…there's a double mystery. 😊
I was so glad to see another Veiled Intentions book. I thought Black Moon was the end to this series, and that (sadly) there were some mysteries that would never be solved. I am so glad the author returned her focus to Niall (and Mat). I have so enjoyed seeing the changes in Niall, and watching him grow through the series. What a difference love can make in a person's life. Niall and Mat are still one of my absolute favorite couples. There are a couple more mysteries solved in this book, but you won't get any spoilers from me. Rest assured there are some twists and turns, red herrings, and surprises along the way. I love the way this author spins out and unravels a story. Sometimes I think I have it figured out, then my theory is blown out of the water. LOL Sometimes a little bloody and gritty, a touch of trauma and drama, a bit of humor, a little steam, and always a good time.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This is not a romance, you can call it slow burn but it's not. It's a thriller mystery with two men as the leads. Yes by book 3 they get together but the emotional connection and chemistry is mute. They hint at it but it's about .5 % consideration of the book or the series. Every now n again they hint at their feelings but then they cover the absence of affection by them being men or his past or fear of commitment. Literally they had almost not emotional or physical contact for 2 whole books, one gets hurt n next minute they are getting married. I missed they even kissed or hooked up. It's like how to u go from Luke warm interested to engaged.. ok... it's that slow burn. Basically any romance is hinted about what they want to do in their head as one line thoughts. It's not a MM read. It's a trilogy thriller mystery series with 2 cops. It's weird n mediocre at best
This was a last minute addition to the trilogy... it's the Novela add on
You’ll want to start at the beginning of Niall and Mat’s saga, if you haven’t already, before picking up this book, which brings us back into their lives to stir up some old questions and revisit some familiar faces. Fans of the Veiled Intentions series will find a lot to like here– Niall is still his grumpy, glorious self and I defy anyone not to love him for it. His bond with Mat is everything. Of course there’s a mystery, and of course it’s personal– this is a beautiful capstone to the series as a whole, and deserves to be enjoyed on its own terms, so I won’t spoil any plot points for you here. Instead I’ll say that this novella, like the novels that preceded it, is well worth a read, and brings all the vibes and characters and energy that you’d want and expect from this series. 4.5 stars.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this story it was great to be back on piedras island again with Mat, Niall and the rest of the Piedras crew, it was also good to see Niall gain another family member and Dakota was just a younger version of his brother even if there circumstances for learning about and meeting each other was the death of their mother at least now they knew what happened to her and got closure. It was good to be back in Colliers Creek again as well and see a few familiar faces, I’d love to see Dakota get his own Hea with Tad because there definitely seems to be more feelings than just friendship from both of them. Then we also caught up with a couple of Cooper Springs residents from the author’s latest series in Mats murder investigation, this was a really great read, you definitely need to have read the other books from this series first but I would recommend the whole series.
I loved Niall and Mat from the original trilogy so to read a fourth book from them is great. I think they have amazing chemistry and it was so good to catch up with them and all their friends and the things that have changed over the years between book 3 and 4. I enjoyed how the two aspects of the plot (Mat's case and Niall's family) ran side by side without there ending up with lots of distance between the pair of them. Dakota was a great addition and I enjoyed the link to Collier's Creek! I really hope we get to read more set in all these shared worlds. I thought the ending was right and I would definitely recommend reading this novel if you're familiar with the first 3 books.
A very emotional ending to this Veiled Intentions series. Niall has kept buried in his heart and mind the speculation of his mother Ana's fate. In this final book those thoughts are materialize. His journey of discovery, supported by Niall's husband Sheriff Mat Dempsey, uncovers an unknown relationship. Meanwhile, back on Piedras Island Mat is faced with a ferry boat murder, potential suspects, investigating assistance from WCF, and an emotional ending plus a suspect arrest. Great investigating elements in both scenarios by Ms. Keaton that lends authenticity to this dual plot story. This final series book is one I highly recommend BUT with the cavoite of needing to read the previous books to fully appreciate this book.
Full Disclosure by Elle Keaton is Book 4 in the Veiled Intentions series. We revisit Mat and Niall on Piedras Island. Police Chief Mat has a puzzling death to investigate, while Forensics Investigator Niall has news that remains of a body has been confirmed as those of his mother. As well as that he finds out he has a younger half-brother!
It was good to catch up with Mat and Niall.
All loose ends are tidied up so now it looks like new stories will emanate from another town. Maybe not in the state of Washington?
I have been a keen follower of Elle Keaton for a long time and she never disappoints!
I was delighted to have a Mat and Niall story and glad that Ana's death was solved to the best of their ability. It was wonderful to meet Dakota and know that he would be okay and that he now had a family that would keep in touch and hopefully he and Tad will grow closer. The solving of the death of the man in the car on the ferry was one of the few times that I actually had a clue who was involved just not how and glad that he was captured without bloodshed. Love seeing Birdy and Ryder and Shay and of course my favorites Fenrir and Hel. I know it is the last book in this series but hope that they will be featured in other books in the future.
It's so good to be back in the Veiled Intentions world with Niall and Mat. Though they eventually got their HEA, things have continued on and now Piedras Island has another mystery for Mat, albeit delivered on the ferry from the mainland, and Niall has to deal with a family matter that he thought had long been left in the past. Niall's trip down memory lane, whilst bringing up negative emotions, does also bring something positive to him in the form of Dakota, who I really hope that we get to hear more from in some way. It's also good to reunite with the cast of the VI series, along with some guest appearances from West Coast Forensics and Cooper Springs. I really enjoyed the story, both mysteries have the reader thinking and guessing along, though the island one is more of a whodunnit. Elle's writing draws the emotions from the characters, even Niall's stoic, silent ones that are easy to grasp with what he has to deal with. I find the way Mat handles him amusing as he's come to know something is up as soon as he walks into their home, not even needing to see his husband to have an idea of his mood. Another great book for Niall and Mat, especially as the author never planned another for the couple. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Again! This was an added bonus novel with two of my favorites and we got a mini-Naill! Solving the case of Ana seemed unlikely but after a DNA hit, Naill learns of Dakota’s existence and is drawn to another one of my favorite places, Collier’s Creek, to meet his half brother. Very much alike, the two take awhile to warm up to each other but the memorial brings Dakota to the island. Mat is busy solving a murder and Naill is working a case for WCF. Dakota gets a glimpse of his new family and friends while getting the chance to help out a bit on Mat’s case and Ana’s. So happy we got this extra!
