Bountiful Beaus #1

The Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss

Rate this book
At Ms. Broussard's Home for Bountiful Beaus, even the unlovable can find a love story for the ages. The custom-made automatons she offers are fully trained in the art of keeping their homes tidy and their future husbands happy.

Arthur Price is not looking for love. The lonely librarian clings to his work and routine to keep himself functioning. When his brother, Jared, arrives in the middle of the night with an i-Series automaton meant to lift his spirits, Arthur realizes his routine life is about to be upended. Cheerful to a fault, Periwinkle is not someone Arthur would normally choose to befriend, much less enter into a romantic entanglement with, but he somehow programs himself perfectly into his life.

Periwinkle may not possess much experience other than cleaning, but he can’t help noticing the loneliness in his librarian’s eyes. If it means giving Arthur Price a fresh start, Periwinkle is more than happy to stitch together all the pieces of Arthur’s broken heart. Whether Arthur likes it or not, Periwinkle's mechanical heart beats only for him.

The Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss is a cozy, dual POV, slow-burn romance about a lonely librarian and his made-to-order boyfriend. There are themes of abuse in one of the side character arcs, but there is no abuse between the MCs. Heavy hurt/comfort, heavy warm and fuzzies.

MY FIRST ARC from GRR✨ 3.5/5

“Mother had always told them that each of her bountiful beaus had been designed to feel emotions just as any human would. Sure, most humans would treat them as glorified computers, but for all intents and purposes, the beaus were the closest thing to humanity that a human had ever created. They felt joy. They knew the overwhelming feelings of love and admiration. Sometimes, they even wallowed in despair.”

Phew, that was a long one. 😮‍💨
I have so many conflicting thoughts about this story. While I loved the world that the author created and the possibilities for so many others to have their own story, something still felt a little off for me.

Mother has created automaton househusbands or ‘bountiful beaus’ they are designed by/to fit each suitor that purchased them. The ‘suitors’ are Masters and Misters. While Masters are too busy for a dating life, a Mister is a romantic at heart and is looking for a romantic companion.

i-739 is one of our MCs. Later known as Periwinkle. He’s designed with an English accent and is all rainbows and sunshine and a bit of an airhead at times. Designed with a 19year old body. He’s trained by Mother at her establishment to be the perfect househusband with the perfect manners just like his brothers. He spends a year and a half? doing his training after being ‘born’. Mother has to coddle him a bit because he’s more sensitive than the others just as his purchaser wanted. He believes his master will be Jared Price which he has a photograph of, tho he does find the younger man in the picture to be a lot more handsome.

Jared Price is a Master and he is NOT nice. He’s actually an asshole and treats his automaton like a machine, to satisfy his needs be that sexually or aggression. His beau is Elliot, who seems to be a kind automaton that’s just resigned himself to be abused forever. 😭 Everytime they were on page it made me stomach turn, I’ve seen other reviews talk about how this is a low angst story and it is pretty low on the angst but I had a hard time seeing how Elliot was treated especially since he was still in this horrible situation by the end of the story.

There’s a Mister who makes an appearance twice in the story, Mr.Davenport and if I had personal connections to the author I’d be begging them to make a Mr.Davenport & Elliot story because the hurt/comfort and love potential is so strong.😭

Anyway.
Periwinkle was a ray of sunshine and at times sassy. His obsession for care bears was also cute but honestly I was bored to death with him getting to know the neighbors that end up being his found family, especially Honey and although she plays a big role later on I personally didn’t care for it. I can see the appeal and how others might enjoy it but my brain just could not pay attention to their outings, I was more curious about Peri building a relationship with Arthur. Which kinda felt a little hot/cold rather than an easy flow from friendship to more. I was especially confused during the times that they had been kissing but Arthur still thought of Peri as a friend in his mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Speaking of Arthur, our love interest for Peri and our other MC. Jared’s brother. i-739 was Jared’s gift to Arthur since Arthur has been moping around since his last relationship ended. Arthur had been with Mark for 5 years until he caught him in bed with his best friend Adam.

I had a hard time liking Arthur, he starts off seeing i-739 as just a machine and doesn’t seem bothered by the way Jared treats his beau either, he’s kind of a pushover. Arthur had been disowned because he was gay while Jared remained in the closet and got to keep his inheritance, he paid for Arthur’s home and helps him out financially but always holds it over his head.

Still, when Arthur seems like he’s getting more likable I feel like he’s brought back down, he seems to still think of Mark affectionately and calls Adam his whore, when I think he should hate them both equally, which I think he does, eventually.

Out of the two, I definitely liked Peri better. He deserved the world. 🥺

As for the steam, it’s VERY LOW compared to what I usually enjoy. But the world the author created was still very enjoyable and I can see myself checking out whatever this author puts out next. 😊

“Mother used to tell us we would know love when we saw it. I don't know if the look you give me is love, but I love the way it feels. I love the way I feel when I'm around you. My heart flutters in my chest, and sometimes it feels like I might throw up, but it's not a bad throw up.
It's a good one. The best one, even. I want to throw up around you a lot, Arthur.”

This was such a cozy, adorable story. Periwinkle and Arthur encapsulated the grumpy/sunshine couple beautifully. And the world itself was so unique. You don’t find a lot of lite sci-fi in the MM world, and it was refreshing reading one that wasn’t high stakes or clogged with made-up science jargon. And the humor! This is the author’s second novel, and you can already tell he has perfected his whimsical tone and character banter.
If you’re looking for a low-angst, snuggly book to relax or unwind, this is the one.

AAAARRGGGHH I loved that so much! Funny, sweet and oh-so heartwarming, this book is a must read for anyone who loves cozy sci-fi! It is perfect for fans of Kit Vincent’s ‘Us Et Cetera’ (which I absolutely loved as well!) and had elements of Edward Scissorhands, Futurama (trust me, wait until you meet Mother) and Stepford Wives.

Mrs Broussards Home for Bountiful Beaus sells top of the range automatons designed to be the perfect househusband. I-739 is one of these AI automatons -
designed perfectly for his future husband, Jared Price. However he is surprised to find that instead of belonging to the unfriendly Jared, he is destined to belong to his brother, lonely and introverted Arthur Price.

Arthur has had his heart broken in the worst possible way and is trying to avoid the world. When his brother turns up with a brand new i-series automaton for him, he is unsure about sharing his home with the robot… but as he gets to know the chaotic ball of energy that is Periwinkle (i-739), he starts to realise that maybe he is the key to mending his broken heart.

I loved everything about this book; it was sweet and playful, but also touched on deeper topics such as bodily autonomy and the concept of ownership. I just loved both Arthur and Periwinkle - they were polar opposites but just worked so well together. I adored the chaotic family of the ladies of the Auxiliary club and just all the little Easter eggs that appear in the book (pack, pack, pack).

Overall the book is very low angst - there were a few moments when I got a little nervous for our sweet boys, but overall it was just so sweet and the HEA gave me fuzzy feelings for days!

Read this for:
✨ Human x robot with emotions and autonomy
✨ The best found family of old ladies!
✨ Laugh out loud moments (I will never recover from the abundance of Live, Laugh, Love decals)
✨ Side rep (no tops, no bottoms!)
✨ First times & healthy discussions about sex and relationships
✨ Devoted grumpy x sassy sunshine
✨ Sugary earl grey tea. Trust me on this.

I absolutely recommend this one; it’ll bring out so much joy! Thank you to Gay Romance Reviews for an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own. This book is available on 3rd April 2023 💕

A charming story set in the current world with advanced technology. I went in blind and was in for a surprise, so I’ll keep this vague for others to enjoy that same surprise. Mild spice, low drama. Lovable characters with a super fun discovery phase when the adorably naive Periwinkle gets his hands on a gay magazine with intimate suggestions. Gives similar vibes as Amelia Bedelia children’s books. A very literal character, responding in very literal ways with ensuing antics and fun conversations. Overall was a bit slow, but still enjoyable, imaginative and different, which is always welcome in a world of overdone tropes.

LOVED the mention of TJ Klune’s Brothersong within this book. I adore Green Creek and WolfSong was an epic read. Pack Pack Pack, indeed.

HEA, m/m, science fiction, AI, contemporary.

The book "The Househusband's Guide To Domestic Bliss" is an exceptional read that I recently came across.
Authored by Lance Lansdale, this book kept me hooked to its pages, and I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end.
The story revolves around the lives of two central characters, Peri and Authur. When Peri first meets Authur, his expectations are not met, but as time passes, a connection starts to develop between them, and it was a privilege to witness it grow.

The story is set in a community where Peri becomes a part of a Ladies Auxiliary group, and the characters he meets, including Mrs Peppercorn, are all wonderfully depicted.
The way the story is written is truly unique, and the author has done an exceptional job of bringing everything together.
The book is not just a simple read; it's an experience that takes you on an emotional journey. I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could, as it is perfect in every way and written beautifully.

“I miss you,” Arthur whispered, low enough that only God could hear. “It’s been less than an hour, and I already miss you. Is that strange?”

This book is ADORABLE!!

It follows AI boyfriend i-739 on his journey to becoming a househusband. Except the man he’s been told that he’s marrying is mean and abusive and actually just bought him to gift to his brother. Except his brother Arthur doesn’t want an AI boyfriend but he also can’t send i-739 back. So they become roommates? 🤣🥰

The AI does get a name fairly early on in the book but it’s such a sweet moment I’m not going to spoil it in my review.

It’s funny and charming! I-739 has a simplistic view of the world and zero life experience. He’s preciously naive. Arthur is still reeling from a broken heart so he can be grumpy and cold at times but the relationship they build together is so beautiful it’s unreal.

Also: Honey Peppercorn. She’s a side character who is simply incredible. A sassy Southern woman whose every line is pure gold. She’s takes i-739 under her wing and is so loving and kind as she helps him get settled in their small town.

“He’s just so easy to love.”

He truly is. I laughed, cried, swooned, etc. It’s such a feel good book and an instant favourite of mine.

Edited to add: it’s low heat and i love how we get some rep for ppl who don’t love penetrative sex. I truly hope this is a series because there’s some HEAs I’d love to read.

What a fabulous story, all the stars for this book!!

i-739 is an innocent soul, others would say machine, but he’s far from a machine. He's created to be the perfect househusband.
He has no scruples, he’s utterly theatrical, and that makes him the most adorable person ever.

He ended up in Arthur Price’s lap. Not Arthur’s choice but a gift from his brother.
If i-739 doesn’t work for him he will be returned. The devastating look on i-739 face did something to Arthur’s broken heart.

What follows is everything, from hilarious moments to heartbreaking ones. There are beautiful people involved and cruel ones. But the upper hand of the story was just one big delight. I never met a beautiful soul like Periwinkle (i-739)

So run over to the store and buy this gem!!

The flow was fantastic, I wouldn’t change a single thing about the whole book
And between all the adorable and delightful moments there are big life lessons!! Read them yourself!
It’s so SO worth!
The story made me laugh, snort, broke my heart, and mended it.
Arthur and Periwinkle stole my heart and I’m still looking for it.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Wow, I was absolutely charmed by Periwinkle, the automaton with a heart of gold.

This was such a refreshing read. It is really always fun to have so many plays on colloquial speech, as well as turning the tropes on their heads. Periwinkle is a delight, and his love and devotion is so pure, Arthur couldn’t help but fall for him. He’s so very proper, in such creative ways, that he absolutely felt human, more so than actual humans in the story. Arthur’s devotion came on slower, but was no less precious. It’s a delicious romance, and I would absolutely read on if more stories come from this world.

“It ain’t what you’re made of that makes you human, baby. It’s love. It’s what you do with it that counts. What are you gonna do with all that love inside of you?”

I would love to have Periwinkle in my life. Saying I enjoyed this story would be an understatement. Periwinkle wrapped himself around my heart and got under my skin from the beginning and was keeping me giggling and hopping with joy throughout the story. There is so much about Periwinkle that brought my inner child joy. The way he sees the world and questions everything with such a fresh innocence. He is just adorable. The author has built a unique world and a fabulous cast of characters that I felt connected to and I want to continue on a journey with if this becomes a series (I sure hope it does).

“Love isn’t about shaping someone into the image you want to see. It’s about caring for someone because of their flaws, not in spite of them.”…. “Broken pieces, remember? You love me for mine, and I love you for yours.”

This MM romantic sci fi had me laughing, crying, stomping my feet in anger and falling in love. Thank You for the story.

For fellow mood readers and those with triggers : Get ready to have some fun with this story! You will have plenty of laughs, might shed some tears in the tender hearted moments and end with a warm fuzzy feeling all over. There is mention of offscreen cheating from an ex, there is abuse of automatons, and there is family drama. If you are sensitive to swearing this will be a good read for you.

This is Lance Landsdale’s second book and honestly this guy is proving he can write everything. He went ripping out hearts in “We Burn Beautiful “ to making us laugh and cry in this amazing rom com.

Periwinkle is everything.
He is a robot and was created with the sole purpose to care for his husband and make him happy and he does that while also growing as a person and realizing that being human is more than flesh and bones.

He needs to be protected, cared for, being told he is a good boy and to be loved unconditionally, and Arthur is the right person to do it. Peri’s one liners, his fascination with the world that’s new to him and the relationships he makes are the heart of the book.

Arthur and Periwinkle’s relationship started a little rocky, being cheated in his previous relationship Arthur didn’t see the point of falling in love again but Peri’s love and fascination with the Care Bears melted his hurt little heart.

I haven’t mention but we have 3 sets of villains in this story, honestly how much can Peri and Arthur take. I just wanted to punch Arthur’s cheating ex for being the worst human ever and Mother for being evil.

This was such a stellar book, I couldn’t put it down and finished it one day.

Peri and Arthur made my little romantic heart so happy. Can’t wait to come back to their world and see where this series goes.

This story is truly one of a kind

Lance´s second novel is a cozy, slow burn with low angst romance.

After We burn beautiful , the author presents a totally diferent novel.

At the beginning, we meet i-739, who is an automanton , built by a company to be sold as househusband, but is full of hope and fellings about his future huband, whom only knows from photography. (I love this character, he deserves the world.).

i-739 is a gift from the other main character´s brother , Arthur, who has had a bad breakpup a year ago .

The spice is low, but the relationship between the mc´s warms your heart.

I love the humor in this book.

I want to read more of this universe, because despite my love for Peri and Arthur, there is a secondary character who has made me suffer a little ( much) , i hope he has a happy ending in his future.

This was a wonderful read, and I loved everything about it.
Notably, this book is completely meant as a cozy read with low heat and lots of feels.

The number of times I've said "Oh you sweet summer child" really emphasizes how precious Periwinkle is. The growth in this book is amazing, and the characters Lance has created are extremely lovable.

While it's completely different from We Burn Beautiful, the fact this book has made me wipe away tears within the first few chapters just goes to show Lance's writing is impeccable.

This book was such an amazing read. I adore Perwinkle so much. The way he is so innocent is what i think makes him perfect for Arthur. I love how even though Arthur thinks he doesn't want anything to do with Periwinkle, he slowly falls for him is so sweet. This book is one everyone should read.

I absolutely loved this story! Peri is so sassy and hilarious! I could just hear everything he was saying in his British accent lol This was a refreshing, palate cleansing read after reading so many heavy books lately. These guys deserved a happy ending and I’m so tickled that they got it! 🥹🩷 As for Jared Price and Mother Broussard… well… 😒 I hope karma catches up with both of them!

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.

After hearing the premise of The Househusband's Guide, I had questions, but I’m so happy I gave it a chance. The story is beautifully told, charming, and funny, which I think is exactly what the author was shooting for.

Ms. Broussard, in my opinion, is essentially a mad scientist and madam running a brothel for her own inventions in the most Stepford Wives-y kind of way. One of those inventions, a naïve yet feisty robot called i-739, gets sold to a horrible man who then gifts the robot to his brother, Arthur, a grumpy, introverted librarian whose life probably needs to be shaken up a little after a bad breakup. Naturally, Arthur has no interest in sharing his home with a robot whose sole purpose is to care for said home, and… well, said librarian. But there is no question that Arthur is intrigued—even mystified—by this creature in pink that has been thrust upon him.

What ensues is a fun romp full of side characters who are just as lovable as the main characters—I’m looking at you, Mrs. Peppercorn and Princess Rivera. Reading the story is like watching an episode of Desperate Housewives that was written in the 1950s but takes place in the future, and somehow, it works flawlessly. You should probably open a bottle of wine (or pour yourself a nice glass of iced tea) for this adventure.

Househusband’s Guide is ultimately, in my opinion, a heartwarming tale of acceptance; accepting oneself and accepting others—as they are, and for who they want to be. It’s a fun read, and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance story.

I loved everything about this book… Periwinkle and Arthur were both such amazing characters and their growth throughout this story as they learned about themselves and fell for each other.
That’s not to say the whole thing was tea and flowers… there were a lot of moments I wanted to reach through the phone and destroy a few awful characters. I have it on good authority they’ll eventually get theirs!
This book was so different from Lance Landsdale’s debut, We Burn Beautiful, but it still delivers sweetness, snark, and sass… plus a touch of spice. I’m so invested in this pair, I’m already ready to see more of the beaus from Ms. Broussard’s Home for Bountiful Beaus find their happily ever after. And the villains getting theirs!

Perfect Match, Grumpy and Sunshine

The Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss
Lance Lansdale

Ms. Broussard’s Home for Bountiful Beaus

i-739 is destined to be Master Jared Price's husband.
i-739 spends hours staring at the picture of his future husband when not in training.
'Mother' her told her because that they were made to feel emotions, as much as any human, though her story of Anthony the Automaton warned of excess affection instead of abiding by all of the husbandly duties.
In preparation for meeting his husband he'd been prepared in scented oils and dressed like a 1950’s Hollywood star.
When he meets his intended, "his mechanical heart fluttered in his chest".
He's a romantic, convinced he'll have a swoonworthy encounter with his future Master and husband with a life filled with love.
Unfortunately his meeting with Price leaves him upset and confused. Mother is treating it like a transaction, the man is abrupt, rude and swats his hand away, wanting no contact or affection.
1-739's dreams are shattered.
Well, it's a good job that Jared isn't his master. Jared Price has bought the automaton for his brother Arthur, recently heartbroken.
Jared is reprehensible. Franky, he's nasty, arrogant and abusive to his own 'Elliot' model. Never mind how he bullies his own brother.

The excerpts from 'Mother's Manual for a Happy Home' are great fun. Rather like a technique Chloe Archer uses in her novels. They mimic the 1950s style housewife manuals but the more we read "Mother loves you with her whole heart" and see other interactions or lack of, between her and 1-739 (Periwinkle) the clearer it becomes that she's the furthest thing from an actual mother figure. There's definitely a brewing sinister air to her character.
Thankfully Peri meets neighbour Mrs Peppercorn who invites him to the Ladies Auxillary social, and a lot about society, bigotry and homophobia is explored here, as well as the book becoming a more dystopic read. The author doesn't shy away from serious issues.
It's definitely a play on The Stepford Wives concept, but Peri isn't merely an obedient partner. As he and Arthur - a librarian - become comfortable with each other, Peri's personality, exuberance, naivety and banter come to the fore. He definitely likes to tease and will admonish Arthur when he deserves it, even if done playfully.
He's basically adorable, and it isn't long before his sweetness and sweet butt make Arthur interested in more. Pretty soon there is steam involved and it's written beautifully.
In fact, when Peri is sick for a few days and resting, Arthur is a mess and worried for Peri. As Mrs Peppercorn notes, "I saw him place a copy of TJ Klune’s Brothersong in the Religion & Spirituality section." This made me laugh out loud. If you know, you know.
It's the first book by Lansdale I've read, but it certainly won't be the last.

This is my first book by Lance Lansdale and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It's not often you have books about AI/robot characters that are made to be someone's partner but Periwinkle has been perfectly formed to be Arthur's partner.
I was drawn to Periwinkle's personality from the start. He is so open and has a sunshine outlook, though that doesn't last long once he's taken from the home with his new partner. Arthur is not who he is intended for but is definitely his preferred choice after seeing how Jared, Arthur's brother, treats his own beau.
It's a slow burn romance, especially as Arthur was determined that he was not interested in a new partner after the bad way his last relationship ended but it doesn't take long for Periwinkle to worm his way into Arthur's heart. They are opposites in a lot of ways but it works so well for them. I also love the community that Periwinkle finds himself becoming a part of, with the Ladies Auxiliary group taking him in, with Mrs Peppercorn being very firm in having Periwinkle's company. She becomes an important person to them both and I adore her outlook on people and what they mean to each other. One I'm not fond of is Jared. He may gift his brother Periwinkle but he is not a nice man, first noted by the way he treats his own beau but also the way he is with his brother. The development of Peri's personality is something to watch out for as it is heartwarming between him and Arthur and full of spark and independence when it comes to Jared, as well as Mother, the creator of the bountiful beaus, another person not to like.
**Trigger warning for physical abuse between human and his beau**
I really enjoyed this world that the author has created and hope to hear more from it in the future.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This book blew me away! When I first started this book, I was uncertain on whether or not I was going to enjoy it, mainly because for the first few chapters our POV was that of i-739, a robot. I wasn't expecting that, it definitely gave off sci-fi vibes, which isn't a bad thing, it's just usually not my cuppa tea. However, I continued to read this story and I became ensnared my Periwinkle and Arthur's characters.

The concept of this book is really creative and unique, I've never came across another book with a concept or premise such as this one. Which is a really good thing, it makes this book stand out even more. I found the plot to be very tantalizing, we got to go on this journey with these characters, and we got to see i-739, evolve into Periwinkle. I found the way this book was written to be very engaging, I was eager to keep reading to see what else Periwinkle would discover. His love for Care bears is so adorable, and his childlike glee at discovering the world around him is so precious.

The way the ladies of the Auxiliary so effortlessly cared for and supported Periwinkle was so endearing and very heartwarming. The bond that occured between Honey and Periwinkle was so touching, I was happy for Periwinkle that he found his true family, and friends.

While there was a teensy bit of angst, this book mainly is full of beautiful love, it's full of friendships, and learning to love one another as they are. I highly recommend you to get yourself a copy of this book, curl up with a blanket, and dive in. You won't regret it.

The cover creeps me out. Picked this one because the book I want to read isn’t out yet and I was curious what else the author had to offer. Artificial husbands.

Periwinkle was a bit of a brat. He was full on, chaotic and unique. I felt sorry for him when he was an i-series number getting himself ready to meet the man he’d been made for. The meeting was heartbreaking with how quickly he was abused and ‘mother’s’ cold attitude. More than that I felt for Elliot.

Peri and Arthur were a sweet couple. Their part was cozy, along with the small town found family. I didn’t like Mother, and was disappointed they’d let him find out the truth for himself, as well as risking the secret. Jared was a piece of work, an abuser and a bully. I’m glad Arthur dodged a bullet there, but Elliot was still trapped.

There were some funny moments and some awkward. There’s an age gap feel with Peri being months old in a nineteen year old body. The sex bits were a bit strange after carebears. There’s naive virgin and then there’s Peri. I did like how he handled the Mark situation.

I’m not sure about the way everything was made out to be Arthur’s fault. He wasn’t the one that had Peri made and given away. He might’ve been wishy washy with the Mark situation, but the moment he stood up to his brother, Peri was gone and he was left to gather the funds to get him back. Why did he need to grovel?

I’m not sure about the ending. Nothing was done about Jared or the mother. Verbal disowning and moving on. It was strange one, somewhat predictable but interesting.

If you are looking for a cute read with endearing characters and an incredibly unique storyline, you have GOT to pick up Lance Lansdale's Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss. It's the story of a humanoid robot who falls in love with a man who has given up on love, and though there is a little bit of angst, overall the story is so cozy and sweet. It's incredibly well-written, full of humor and fun Easter eggs, and has a beautiful happy ending.

Oh my goodness, sweet Periwinkle (the robot, though NEVER call him that) is PRECIOUS. Though he's a little bit snarky and sassy, most of the time he's a total sweetheart, and he dreams of nothing more than to be loved. His obsession with Care Bears is SO CUTE, and oh my goodness, his worries about people, and especially Arthur, not seeing him as human broke my heart. And Arthur! OMG, this poor guy has been through it in his previous relationship, and though he's uncertain about Periwinkle at first, I loved that he was able to find what he was looking for with him.

Like in We Burn Beautiful, one of the BEST parts of this book are the spectacular side characters, particularly Periwinkle's Auxiliary friends. These ladies are not only the ultimate friends, protectors, and allies... they are freaking HILARIOUS.

Unlike a lot of scifi-ish romances, this book doesn't get bogged down in heavy world-building or jargon - the focus is on the romance and building up Periwinkle and Arthur's relationship, and I LOVED that. And oh my goodness, my one wish for this book was for poor sweet Elliot, the long-suffering robot belonging to Arthur's brother, would get out of the tough situation he's in... and apparently I'm getting my wish because Lance is writing his story now! Very excited to find a new series to love, and my love of Lance's storytelling continues. Everyone needs to read this book, highly recommend.

Wow this book was so. freaking. CUTE! We have an unassuming librarian and the sparkly upbeat husband to order who sweeps him off his feet. Periwinkle is such a wonderful character, he needs to be protected at all costs. He is sunshine personified. I love him and the old southern ladies who adopt him.

I was nervous when I first started it because there are some gross people, and plenty of them are of the opinion that the sentient robots are "just robots" so it doesn't matter what you do to them. Which is always just bleh to read. However luckily nothing too terrible happens and the main focus of the book is definitely just an adorable romance. I just loved Peri's inner monologue and the way he sees the world. It was so satisfying to see him get his HEA and a community and life he loves. It's a story that just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'm not sure if this is the start of a series or a standalone, but there's definitely opportunity for more in this world and I would definitely read it.

*Thanks to GRR for an ARC! These are my honest opinions and I'm giving them voluntarily* ♥️

Sometimes you just need a book that picks you up, shakes all the tears out of you and then wraps you in a giant hug. The Househusband’s Guide to Domestic Bliss did all that and more! I cried my way through this absolutely stunning emotional rollercoaster of a book and was left with the biggest smile on my face when I finished it.

Arthur and Periwinkle and the most vibrant grumpy/sunshine couple. Arthur is a kind and slightly lost seeming human librarian still struggling from the heartbreak he suffered a year ago. Periwinkle is the sassy, joyful cleaning and companion robot built as a surprise present for him - one he doesn’t initially want. But Peri’s sweetness and personality are irresistible!

I loved both MCs together and as individuals. They care so much for each other and to watch those emotions develop was really lovely (and really well written). This isn’t insta-love, so expect a slower burn as they learn what they really mean to each other and how their feelings change. It was really interesting especially to see Arther’s journey from someone who doesn’t believe in the sentience of robots to someone who sees Peri for exactly the wonderful person he is.

There is also a truly amazing cast of secondary characters in this book with a wonderful found family vibe which I adored wholeheartedly. This is also where quite a lot of humour came from to lighten some of the more angsty moments! Live your wholesome Stepford Wife fantasy today. But not.

I can’t even explain to you how much I loved Househusband’s Guide, how much you need to read it, or how much I’m looking forward to the sequel which I preordered as soon as I finished. If you need a good cry, a good cosy read, or a good reason never to let your robot drive a Vespa, read this now!

If you told I would fall in love with a robot and a librarian I would have told you you were crazy.

This book is the perfect dose of wholesome sweet fun, filled with 1st times, learning to love yourself and finding your people- broken pieces and all!

Periwinkle is the sweetest adorable robot-man-you will ever meet. He is naive in so many ways but his love for Arthur is just the most honest thing you will experience.

Periwinkle winds up being an unexpected gift for Arthur and even though initially Arthur is reluctant to have him Periwinkle burrows his way into Arthur's heart.

Arthur who has been hurt and believes he has nothing to offer someone finds Periwinkle's antics, and inability to not burn bacon endearing. He slowly warms up to Periwinkle in his homes and learns quickly maybe someone to love isn't so bad.

Throw in a perfect meddling old lady neighbor, Care Bears, a Princess, and all the ridiculousness of the south and you have the most adorable love story between a not really grumpy librarian and a Periwinkle.

Review: The Househusband’s Guide To Domestic Bliss by

Well, I didn't think it could be done, but Lance has mad me fall in love with a... Periwinkle! 🪻💟

Perwinkle is just the most innocent, loveable, snarkiest i-series there is, and Arthur, oh Arthur, is his reclutant beau. Thier story is so cute and cuddly and the side charecters are the funniest! Excpet for Jared. In Lance's words "Jared can go to hell" and in my words, so can Mark!👿 I hope we get to see some of the side charecters' stories come to life and in turn get some glimpses of Periwinkle and Aurthur.

I will warn you - I was not prepared for the end of Chapter 1. I even had to express this on Lance's social. It sounds like I didn't love it - I ABSOLUTELY did. My favorite is when a story starts off with a bang and draws you immediately in. I won't give anymore away, just read it! 📖👓

Automaton i739 has been trained for his Master Jared. When Jared gets him, he is cruel and strikes him before giving him away to his brother Arthur. Arthur didn't want an automaton but is kind and gives him purpose. It's a beautiful love story between a man, Arthur and his effervescent, more-man-than-most automaton he nicknames Per-Bear. Peri is so innocent, sweet, loving and dutiful it is obvious he is not a man but better than a nan. Arthur is wounded but still empathetic and can't help but fall in love. It's a slow burn romance with angst and a HEA. It's also a commentary about our future with the foreboding of man's cruelty but also the hope of goodness still surviving. My first book by Lance, won't be my last. I received a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my voluntary opinion.

After a bad breakup and being burned by love Arthur is perfectly fine living his simple life of working at the library, being alone and having one respectable cup of non sugary tea in the morning. When his big brother shows up at his door stop with automaton made specifically for Arthur, he is not amused. But feeling pity for the automaton who does not seem to fond of his brother he decides to let him stay. I-739s life is not going how he expected either, the man he prepared his entire existence to serve is nothing like he thought he would be and now he is stuck living with his Masters brother who doesn’t seem to fond of him. With his mother’s wise lessons in store he goes about being the perfect house husband to Arthur never stepping on single toe out of the careful curated rules and guidelines of his guidebook on being the perfect submissive beau. Forced together Arthur and I-739 might just discover that they are exactly what they need.

This is a sweet, slow burn story with minimal spice and a ton of heart and humour. Arthur and I-739 fall for each other in such a simple yet beautiful way. I-739 discovers what it means to be his own “person”, he’s hilarious, oblivious, extremely sassy and only the teeniest tiniest bit dramatic. He adores Arthur and gives him the kind of unconditional love he craves. Arthur is such a sweetheart and while grumpy he also has so much love and care to give. He truly sees I-739 for who he is and does everything in his power to make him feel safe and comfortable and to support him in his autonomy.

The Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss

Arthur and Periwinkle

This story was really good. It had me tearing up and actually shedding a tear, or two... possibly more at times. It was sweet. They weren't tears of sadness, however. The storyline wasn't one that I've ever read before and it was enjoyable. Peri is the sweetest character. I enjoyed his "dramatics". It was absolutely adorable. It's easy to see how Arthur came to care for and love him. You should definitely read it! Can't wait to see what's next.

If you haven't read Lance Lansdale's, A Househusband's Guide to Domestic Bliss, I'm going to need you to go grab that now. Go on!!

This sweet story gives a whole new spin to mail-ordering a spouse. And also makes readers stop and consider any pre-conceived ideas of humanity, love, and how we treat each other. But I digress. This book is also hysterical and full of plenty of ridiculous shenanigans. A perfect mix!

Periwinkle is an automaton ball of sassy sunshine created to support and love his future husband. Arthur is a grumpy librarian who never saw Periwinkle coming. These two must learn to get along with each other and discover more about themselves along the way. This relationship is so precious and endearing. I am forever a fan.

If you are ready for a seriously diverse love story filled with friendship, taking chances, self discovery, and so much more, get this book!!
