Claire is a submissive in need of a Dom. She gets impatient waiting for Mason to get his act together which is ultimately her undoing, and she plays right into Carl/Daniel's hands. Thankfully, Mason is there to save the day.
There wasn't a lot of sex because Daniel doesn't really do that--he's more into the whole torture side of things, and the book ends shortly after Mason saves her. What there is written is hot, though I did think the electricity analogy was in poor taste considering the previous torture methods.
The ending was a ghostly warning that 'The Master' was coming back, and I thought that was a bit cheesy and beyond improbable. I'm really hoping I don't see his character in future books somehow having made a miraculous medical recover from taking a bullet to the chest and two to the forehead. I'm also on the fence about all the ghosts of previous victims talking to them. It just seemed weird to me...

*** 3.5 Cranky Stars ***

This book surprised me - despite some reservations I had. The title of the book sounded like it would be a wrestling move or out of the MMA handbook and Skinner's name was reminiscent of the boss from the X-Files.

Here we are transported back to 1981 where we meet Claire and Mason. She's a real estate appraiser looking to get into the world of Dom/Sub relationships. She wants to explore that world with Mason.

After a series of failed attempts and canceled dates, she starts thinking of finding someone new. Enter Dr Carl Skinner who happens upon her in a park. They strike up a friendship of sorts.

Without giving too much away, the story takes a drastic turn and occasionally reminds me of a horror/crime movie from the 1980s - complete with dungeon and a guy called the dungeon master (which I think is an actual title of someone playing dungeon and dragons).

I feel the book could have ended right after that "pivotal" moment, but it carried on for a few more chapters. I'm surprised this girl didn't suffer from PTSD, but I guess that wasn't a legit thing in the 80s.

All in all, not a bad quick read. It won't make you all tingly - unless this sort of thing gets you going. It's like Silence of the Lambs without the skin suit.

So let’s get this straight, this is not a romance, heck I’m not even sure that I would completely categorize it as Erotica, but it certainly sits better in that genre.
Is it a horror? Well that is up for debate too but it cannot be denied that there are elements of the book that many will recoil from and that will have the hairs on the back your neck bristling.
The author may have set its soul in the BDSM scene but I would have to say that, that element of the story didn’t exactly blow my mind. I actually thought it was almost (forgive the pun) submissive, the genre has enough going on to have set the pages alight but the author had other ideas and seemed determined to ensure that the story held firm to her dynamic and honestly I think that worked, because it meant that the book, stood its own ground and didn’t just follow a well-worn path.
Looking to find a Dom that can get her to where she wants to be as a submissive, Claire soon discovers that finding the right guy isn’t as easy as she first thought. Her current incarnation being Mason. While this ex- military man, is just who she needs, he isn’t the most reliable fella on the face of the planet, his constant inability to turn up for dates at the last minute has her seriously narked.
That on top of the fact that she is taking his own sweet time as far as she can see, showing her what the relationship between Dom and Submissive should be, what the scene entails and more to the point, her place in his life. I think I got Claire but that doesn’t mean at this point that I actually liked her much, she was too impetuous for me, she wanted it all and wanted it all right now.
One thing we have all learnt from FSOG is that a good Dom, the sort that will truly have your interest at heart is just like Mason but patience is obviously not Claire’s strong suit, so she quickly jumps ship so to speak when another Dom is more willing and enthusiastic about showing her the ropes.
Alarm bells should have been ringing at this point but this foolhardy woman was about to learn the hard way that all that glistens is definitely not gold. Because while Carl might appear to be the answer to her prayers, he is a walking incarnation of what is about to become her worst nightmare.
Carl promises her everything she wants and more but is he just too good to be true? What do you think!!!
Unfortunately for Claire, Carl’s brand of crazy is certifiable, the man isn’t just crazy, he’s a killer!
I had my heart in my mouth at this point because it is fairly obvious that being the purveyor of his own personalised dungeon and his very own, highly exaggerated brand of BDSM meant that Claire was most definitely in grave, if not mortal danger. A visit to the dungeon did not end well for his prey and now that meant Claire.
I was thankful in some respects that the author left much of the events in the dungeon to the element of imagination, I would have struggled had the book been too graphic but what she did put into the story was enough to both insinuate and accent the horror of the events enough that as a reader I found my imagination almost struggling to keep an even keel.
Could Claire survive and if she could how?
Well if I told you this there would be no point in you reading the story, so I won’t tell you how but you shouldn’t be surprised to find out that there is more to Mason than first meets the eye, after all I did tell you he is ex-Military! But the connection between him and Carl, that I didn’t expect.
Carl was the perfect villain and in some respects Claire was the quintessential victim, she played right into his hands and didn’t see the danger until it was too late.
I think the book brought more to the fore than it left behind. It clearly laid out the fact that taking people at face value is a dangerous move. Claire might have been lucky on this occasion but just how tragic could it have been if Mason had not have had the insight that he did?

Fatal Submission was an intense 5 star read.
Nicole Austin pulls you in right from the start with the prologue.

Claire is looking for the perfect Dom. She meets Mason first, he is an ex marine that had one heck of a comprehensive checklist for Claire to complete, WOW.
The list had made her realize how little she knew about BDSM and kinky sex.
When Claire grows impatient waiting for Mason, she decides to go to Carl, another Dom that she has met. Claire soon finds out that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Lets just say that Carl has a secret that Claire and Mason soon discover.

This was a great read that kept me engaged right from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down. You will definitely learn that you can’t always trust who you think is the good guy and you should trust your instincts. Fatal Submission is a stand-alone read that will keep you on the edge wondering what is going to happen next. Nicole Austin really pulls you in with her writing.

Warning: Fatal Submission has BDSM, Kidnapping, torture, and sexual abuse and may be a trigger for some.

Patience is a virtue and Good things come to those who wait echoed in my brain as I read this story. I liked Claire's realization and acceptance of what she needed for sexual fulfillment. I admired that she found a Dom she believed could fulfill those needs and more. I was not too thrilled with her patience, but hindsight is always better, right?

Not that Mason was any better. At least, not at first. One too many canceled dates sends his potential sub into another man's arms when all he had to do was be open with her about why he couldn't see her. Finding his cousin was of the utmost importance, which I understood. Family first, you know? But just as a sub is a required to open and honest with his/her Dom/me, that same courtesy should be exchanged as well. While I don't fault Mason for keeping his secrets, I wished he'd been open sooner.

But then, maybe it wouldn't have led Claire to the man Mason had been looking for.

When the dust settled and Claire was with the Dom she always meant to submit to, I wondered if that was it. Ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after, her time with the Dungeon Master all but forgotten. I didn't want it to end that way. Call me twisted, but almost every person who suffers at the hands of another carries those memories with them. Sometimes they're called forth by a smell, a sound, a word, an object. Sometimes they come in the form of dreams of what could have been but isn't.

Imagine my surprise when, at the very end, Ms. Austin wrote that in. She brought the nightmare of Claire's experience to the forefront again. It was just a dream, I'll give you that. It was short but vivid and it made me wonder... Was the Dungeon Master really gone?

If you don't like erotic horror or torture, I really won't advise you to try this. I don't normally read this genre but I was curious enough to try it out. I'm not sure I want to know if the Dungeon Master is gone or not, even though Claire has Mason beside her to battle the bad guy again. I think once through that nightmare was enough for me. That isn't to say Ms. Austin did a horrible job writing this. She did a great job and if she writes stories that are a little less...scary (don't mean to sound like a total wuss here) I might read them.

But this... Yeah... Once was enough.

Fatal Submission is first and foremost an erotic horror story with a BDSM setting. Overall it is a fairly well written book with a solid storyline and fully drawn characters, but if you’re looking for an erotic tale with lots of hot sex and BDSM scenarios, this is probably not for you. For nearly the entire first half of the book the only erotic scene involves relatively tame phone sex, which is sandwiched between the scenes building up to the damsel in distress segment.

Claire is a wannabe sub who becomes frustrated with the slow pace her prospective dom is taking to initiate her into the BDSM world and his life. As a consequence, when she meets another dom who seems to “get" her, and who is open to giving her what she craves right away, the impulsive and impatient Claire decides to go for it. Unfortunately, he is Mr. Wrong in spades, a serial murderer with his own personal dungeon where consensual TPE is an alien concept and things end badly for subs that visit there.

Thankfully, the goings on in the dungeon are largely glossed over or alluded to rather than chronicled in gory detail. As it happens, Claire’s dom of preference is ex-military, co-owns a security company, and has been searching for his missing cousin, a previous victim of Mr. Wrong we are to learn, so with relative dispatch he manages to track Claire down and save the day (yes, I am cynical).

Since the entire experience is traumatic for both Claire and her dom-to-be, a period of healing takes place after the rescue before they finally consummate their D/s relationship. Whereas the scene in question is sexy and sensual, it is not significantly more intense in terms of BDSM than the phone sex interlude.

The author, Nicole Austin, has written quite a few books, which judging by their titles would generally be considered erotic romance. Realistically, that category more or less fits Fatal Submission as well, even with the horror component. For me, this book is a little too touchy feely, but to be fair it is well crafted and undoubtedly appeals to readers with different sensibilities than mine.

The book opens up by introducing us to Claire Hanson and her needs. She has her eyes on the one man that she believes can provide her what she needs. But, because he is too busy with his own life and work, another man gets his lucky break. When she is sitting, minding her own business, and filling out her 'limit list' for the Dom she is pining to submit to, she asks a question out loud to herself, hears a chuckle and then is completely embarrassed for a moment before she considers the man standing in front of her. Who is it and what does he want from Claire? who are Mason Burke and Dr. Carl Skinner? Who is this Daniel guy that suddenly is in the picture? What does he have to do with Claire? Why is he following her? What happens when Mason and his friend and business partner, Cam show up at Daniel Winters' home? Who or what is in the dungeon with Claire? What do they tell her to do or not do? What is going on that Mason is 'working' and keeps cancelling his dates with Claire or just shows up late? What happens when Claire comes up missing? What does Mason do with Cam's help? Who is Trina? You're going to have to read this BDSM Thriller/Suspense book to see what happens, because I have more questions that need answers but you'll have to find your own questions to tease others with. Enjoy the book! Be warned, it does end on a cliff hanger! :)

What do you do when you are waiting for the right Dom, but things just keep coming up and maybe he really isn't interested in the first place. That is just what Claire thinks when Mason breaks yet another date and leaves her high and dry. Lucky for her that she has met this really great guy at the park who has offered to help her feel her way through BDSM and all of its many facets.

Carl is too perfect. He helps Claire with Mason's checklist of BDSM activities and seems willing to listen when she is unsure. After another broken date, Claire heads over to his place, sure that he can help smooth her feathers and maybe do some instructing himself. Too bad he had a lot more on his mind.

This book had me on the edge of my seat and reading long after the lights went out. It does have some trigger points for anyone who has ever had sexual abuse or been kidnapped, so if those are your triggers, read this book with care. The tension between Mason and Claire was amazing and Carl was the perfect villain. He was so perfect, and just the reason you should always get to know someone before you ever prance over for a BDSM session in their personal dungeon. NOT SAFE!!!

The ghostly voices of the victims still haunt me as I write this. What an amazing book and it looks like there may be more on the way. (I hope so.)

Author Nicole Austin has done a fabulous job of showing just what can happen when you trust the wrong people. The kink scenes were top notch. The torture scenarios were shudder worthy and completely believable. Wow.

5/5 A BDSM thriller that will indeed have you sleeping with the lights on.

This book contains sexual abuse, Kidnapping, and BDSM if you have problems reading about this then this book isn't for you.
This is my first book by Nicole Austin and I got to say she had me from the first page with this erotic horror story with a tame BDSM setting. I couldn’t put it down.
We meet Claire Hanson who is an inexperienced submissive in need of a Dom. She meets Mason who seems like the perfect Dom for her but he keeps cancelling the dates they have made. Luckily for Claire that she has met Dr. Carl Skinner’s who seems like this really great guy at the park who has offered to help her feel her way through BDSM and all of its many facets.
Mason Burke is an ex-marine and a Dom and he is very particular about finding the perfect submissive so he wants to understand her wants and desires. He has learned from experience not to jump into a D’S relationship with an inexperienced sub. But work comes first for Mason so he keeps canceling on Claire.
We also have Dr. Carl Skinner’s who seems too perfect to be true. He informs her that he has a dungeon in his house while willingly helps Claire with Mason's checklist of BDSM activities and seems to listen when she is unsure of some of these activities.
After Mason breaks another date Claire decides she has had enough and goes to Carl’s house so he can give her what she craves right away, the impulsive and impatient Claire decides to go for it. But he has other things on his mind.
The characters are well thought out and well written their descriptions give you a pretty good insight into their lives. Ms. Austin has done a fabulous job of showing just what can happen when you trust the wrong people.

Fatal submission started with a big bang and I was extremely excited! I absolutely love dark books and the darker that they are the better! Then I got disappointed as all the gory gritty parts that would have made this story amazing were skirted around and pretty much left out .
For me this story had the potential to be up there with some of my favourite authors but it just left a lot to be desired for me. The writing could become confusing as there were no indication to character POV change and you had to just go with it until you had the ‘ ah we are in such and such POV now’ then it would all make sense again.
The characters are well thought out and descriptions give you a pretty good insight into their lives.
If you are looking to dabble in the world of dark books then this is a brilliant way to see if you would like them without too much graphic detail but your imagination can make the rest up and you will know if you would be able to handle more graphic books.
It is down as a BDSM horror which I would say is accurate just a very tame one.
I know this book may suit others that like the thriller element without the graphic element but for me it just didn’t cut it. All the potential was there it just didn’t deliver sorry.
I rate this story 3 stars

Wow, what can I say about this story. True meaning of not to take things at face value

We meet Claire, who is looking for a Dom to help her with her submissive self. She meets Mason, who is the perfect Dom for her and after a while she gets fed up of waiting for him, and decides to meet with Carl who is a rich psychologist who she met one day in the park outside of U of I.

We meet Mason, who is a Dom and he is looking for this cousin Trina, but also slowly getting to know Claire who wants to become his sub. But his cousin Trina comes first and everything goes wrong when he takes his time with Claire.

Everything goes wrong once Claire decides to go meet Carl at his house, and visit his Dungeon.

What will happen to Claire? Will Mason ever find Trina? Will Mason find Claire and finally have D/S relationship?

This story has forms of torture, pain and pleasure.

I really enjoyed this story, I was biting my nails wondering what will happen. I felt for Claire through it all, and was cheering on Mason all the way through. I could not put it down once I started.

I read this through Words Turn Me On.

This is my first time reading anything by Nicole Austin and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. This story had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This story has some sexual abuse ,and if you have problems reading about this or kidnapping then this book isn't for you. Carl seems to perfect, but he does help Claire with Mason's agenda of BDSM activities and was quite willingly to listen to Claire when she's unsure ,when when there is another breaking date. Claire goes to his place, because she was sure he could smooth her feathers and may be able to do some instruction to help her. But he has other things on his mind.As I'm reading I swear that I could hear ghostly voices speaking to me from his great story. Nicole Austin has given us well written story of how things can go wrong when you trust the wrong people. I could go on and tell you more about this story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story ,because you won't be disappointed.

Warning, before you read this book, there may be triggers for anyone that has been kidnapped or abused.
This is not the first book by Nicole Austin that I have read. I always look forward to reading her books. Now as I was reading, by the time I had read chapter four I was feeling the creeps. Between the title of the book and what I was reading I was feeling unnerved. Ms Austin has created very real and relatable characters and the storyline can be disturbing to say this least, BDSM, stalking, kidnapping, murder and abuse. But that did not stop me from reading this well written and thought provoking book, for me at least. I can’t say I loved this book, but I can say it is well written and a fairly short read with a HEA.

My God Was This Book Dark. I Wouldn't Call It A Romance At All. This Book Is A Pure BDSM Thiller Come Horror.

It Contains Abuse And Kidnapping And Definitely Won't Be For The Faint Of Heart. I Didn't Love This Book It Was A Bit Too Raw For Me And What I Thought It Would Be.

The Book Was Amazingly Written But Its Definitely Not Full Of Erotic Sex Filled BDSM Scenes,  It's Full Of Horror Scenes That I Just Could Relate Too. But If You Like Dark Reads You'll Love It.

So worth the read! Fast paced, highly entertaining and somewhat insightful read about BDSM rules. Honesty, trust, and patience. Three characteristics that eager sub Claire lacks as she embarks on a mission to find a Dom to play with. She quickly finds herself way over her head and the results were a real life possibility in the bdsm world. I wish it was longer.
